[RCSE] 2m Laser wing rod

2005-02-13 Thread Denny Zech
Help,
Anyone out there who hates 2 meters have a spare wing rod for a laser
they want to get rid of? I need one so I can fly in our ten 2m contests
this year. .350 dia, 18 long 5-10 degree. I'll even take one from
someone who likes 2m ;-) .

Step up and help a fellow 2m flyer! (Although I really like flying my
Pelican)

Icon TD NIB Yellow over Red, Don's Tequila Sunrise Yellow to Orange to Red

it's yours. $1800.00 (a bit less than current price) plus shipping -
original box and all. Many who know me will wonder why I would be willing
to give up this plane. Suffice to say I just can't afford two Icons right
now and I have one to fix. It turns out that repair parts are not
inexpensive. I can be reached at:

[RCSE] Re: 2M - NATS

2005-02-13 Thread RegDave
I suspect we would not harm the 2M class at the Nats with only one day
of flying and would certainly enhance the flying time for NOS and RES.

I kinda like this idea.

There seems to be a broad spectrum of opinion about 2M and other classes.

Sounds like high end competition pilots don't like to it much whereas many
others do.

I'll again note that I don't see many newbies showing up at the field with a
3M full house moldie. But I do see them come out with a 2M TD or 1.8M speed
400. So let's play to the strength of that distribution.

RES and other events seem to be popular. 2M still makes a good entry level
competitive event. So maybe the answer is to change the distribution of events
(as suggested).

One 'side-effect' of having classes is it encourages suppliers to design and
manufacture to the class limit. OK, so 2M is tough to design for competition
against open class ships (I don't think we've exhausted that potential, by
the way). However, a good competition class 2M is a nice step-up from a Gentle
Lady and is usually more affordable than a hollow core molded open class
ship.

A good example (perhaps) of a class driving development is the emergence of
the Bubble Dancer and AVA. Would we have such really interesting RES ships if
RES were not a competition class?

As a competition class, 2M suffers as compared to open. However, it has some
attraction as an entry or intermediate level format that doesn't have to
break the bank for those getting started. I do think it's important to keep
that
part of the flying population in mind as regional and national events are
being planned.

What new guys in the hobby fly has little, if any, bearing on what
competition classes should be flown at the NATS.

Kind of like asking pattern to have a trainer 40 class at the NATS, since
few, if any, Newbies show up at the field with a full blown pattern plane
with a $1,000 YS 1.60 in it.

Re: [RCSE] facing flap/aileron surfaces ?

2005-02-13 Thread Daryl Perkins
The necessity of facing the leading edges of your
control surfaces depends completely on the model's
required mission. If you require more torsional
stiffness out of the control surface than you already
have... then face them. For example, my TD bagged wing
POS models are not faced - low speed, not going to
have flutter problems, and high speed controllability
is not really an issue.

Bagged wing F3B or slope racers - I'd face them. This
is fairly easy to do. The way I've done it in the
past, is to half round out the inside of the control
surface with a round tool and some high grit
sandpaper, making certain to expose the insides of the
skins just barely. I'll use 60-100 for this wrapped
around an 1/8 piece of ply, with the end rounded.
Goes very quickly. Fabricate some form of holder to
set your TE's into, making certain that you put no
load on them that may twist the control surface. Cut
some 1.4 ounce f/g cloth strips about 3/4 wide on a
bias. (+/-45 degrees) Brush a very thin layer of resin
in the slot you've created, and lay/brush in the strip
of cloth. Once it is cured, you won't believe the
increase in torsional integrity.

On slope racers and F3B models, I'll do the same thing
to the TE of the main panel, to tie the skins
together. You can then put some balsa or an epoxy
micro mixture to the LE of your TE to create a wiper.
Shape accordingly. This part takes some practice, but
when you do it right, can be very clean.

Good luck with it,

D

[RCSE] Airtronics Stylus prgraming help

2005-02-13 Thread John E. Hatlelid
I have a Stylus with the extra glider card and am trying to setup a plane
with motor, ailerons, elevator, and rudder. In the manual for the glider
card, I find the option for changing the wing type to 2A1FER for an F5B
setup. I think I have done this properly and have aileron, elevator, and
rudder servos responding correctly.

I can not seem to get the throttle to work with the speed controller and

adjustments or some other aspect of correctly setting up the throttle
channel.

I would appreciate any detailed information on how to complete the setup of

[RCSE] New Sailplane - Trio

2005-02-13 Thread Mark Miller
Hi All,

A few weeks ago I mentioned that I get in a new
design. It is called Trio. It is a pod and boom design
with carbon and Kevlar pod with slip on nose cone and
a carbon boom. It's wing is 3 meters and is equipped
with flaps and ailerons and is of all built up
construction with your basic molded D-tube leading
edge and carbon capped rips. It has a full span carbon
capped spar with balsa shear webbing wrapped with
Kevlar thread. I got in 4 this shipment and there is
one left. $700.00 plus shipping. I will be getting
more next month.

Here are a few pictures. I will be adding it to my
website this week.

www.isthmusmodels.com/trio/trio.html

I also got in a few examples of a 3 meter full house
design I call Piper. it has a similar wing to the Trio
but is using a Soprano fuselage for those wanting a
conventional fuselage. I got in 2 this order and they
are both sold. I am hoping to have some included in
next months order. Pricing is the same as the Trio.

Cheers,

Mark

John,
If this is for a sailplane, you need only to go into the SW menu and assign
the motor control to one of the switches. Switch #15 is commonly used
since it's spring loaded. This provides only full on motor and full off,
which is all a sailplane needs.

If this is for a powered plane where you will use the left stick for
throttle, you can use the standard 2A2FER program and plug the controller into
channel 5 or 6.

Good luck,
Lenny

Some motor controllers look for a pulse rate that increases in width to
match low throttle (in it's mind). Try reversing the flap servo
direction (which you are using for throttle) to see whether the
controller responds to low throttle position, which then arms the
controller...

Aloha John. I talked to Stylus Boy Tom Hoopes and he sent me a set of
instructions to setup an electric motor sailplane with the Stylus. The
instructions allow you to still use the flaps stick with the
flaperon/spoileron and have proportional throttle control via the side
slider. If you didn't figure it out yet, email me and I could send you the
instructions.
