Neither do I. Maybe they come from the OS or from choices we made in
some dialogs like the Print dialog? Anyway, it seems to me that the new
SM version interprets some of these preferences differently and
therefore chokes on them. Resetting at least those settings that refer

solve the problem. (I did not have this problem on my Linux PC, by the way.)

profile problems and loss of emails and local folders

2015-06-30 Thread PETER

Dear Sirs,

I request some help with a problem I have had with sea monkey and if you
can give me some information as to why it happened and how I can recover
lost emails and the lost contents of my local contents folders.

The situation happened when I clicked under the help menu "restart with
add - ons disabled" which seemed to be quire innocuous
What seems to have happened is that the profile I was using has
disappeared and consequently all the emails both the In box and Sent
for all email addresses and all address books and all local folders.I
send all read emails to Local folders under different jobs and names

I have searched for various profiles in the system and the lost emails
address books and local folders are not the ones lost.

Is there some other place where the lost profile may have been stored
sent or modified.

Also is it possible to do an automatic back up of the profile being used
on a regular basis?

Also when I tried to save an address book I had saved in a CSV or excel
file the addresses in this file saved them into a file called contacts
and no matter what I do to and have then added to Personal Address book
it appears to not be possible not possible.
Even to bring Personal Address Book information to contact appears to
not be possible?

When I tried OpenOffice years ago it was a beast. Extremely bloated and

I think that option just selects the folder filters are run on if you

I'm not sure how to change that. From a quick search, it looks like
there are some extensions to enable filters to work on subfolders,
implying that they usually only operate on the inbox. Perhaps try
starting SeaMonkey with add-ons disabled (Help > Restart with Add-ons

There are almost no add-ons running on that machine. Only NoScript, and
somehow I doubt that NoScript has something to do with it.

Yes, that's what it does. Kind of defeats the purpose of the provider's

Bugs in SM 2.29

2014-09-14 Thread Peter Nieman

Since upgrading to version 2.29 I have found several annoying bugs.

1. The vertical browser scroll bar disappears as soon as you try to
scroll down. This happens on Windows 7 with the Modern theme. It does
not happen on Windows 7 with the default theme and not on Linux with
either theme.

The following bugs have been found on Linux:

2. In one mail account, the newest message downloaded before the update
didn't get sorted correctly by date. "View source" did not show anything
unusual with that message.

3. In "Mail and Newsgroups Account Settings", clicking on one of the
account names in the left pane correctly shows the settings for that
account as long as you don't click on "Local Folders". Once you've done
that, the account names (the two lines at the top of the main area of
the dialog) are no longer correctly updated and clicking on another
account name after that will always give you a window saying: "An
account with this name already exists. Please enter a different account
name."

4. SM 2.29 always crashes on Youtube. I can got to Youtube and watch one
movie, and when I click on another movie after that - or click anywhere,
e. g. in order to close the tab, SM crashes. The funny thing is that
this seems to only happen on Youtube. I can watch Youtube videos on
Yandex, for instance, without problems. So the cause doesn't seem to be
the Flash plugin.

I'm puzzled because I would have thought that control-C/control-V was a
matter of the OS (win 7 in my case) using the clipboard, and

Windows 7 (x64)
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:29.0) Gecko/20100101 SeaMonkey/2.26.1

I use Thunderbird for mail and news and have only one profile there. I
use SeaMonkey as my Web browser and have four profiles there.

I just now went to one profile, visited a Web site, and copied a
paragraph from the displayed Web page. I switched profiles, visited a
Web site that allows user input, and successfully pasted the paragraph
into the input area.

I know this does not really replicate your situation. You are a Windows
user, however, and the copy function should place the copied text into
the Windows clipboard, This means you should be able to terminate
SeaMonkey completely, relaunch SeaMonkey, and still have the text in
your Windows clipboard ready to be pasted. Thus, I must conclude that
you did something to clear or overwrite your Windows clipboard to create
your problem.

By the way, I don't think you can CUT from a received E-mail or
newsgroup message. I think you can only COPY.

You may be right so I tried copying. It failed. For some reason the
clipboard is being cleared 'twixt one Seamonkey terminating and another
starting.

Your problem might be
caused by a blank Windows clipboard because the Cut operation failed.
(No, I am not sure about this. I do know that I cannot Cut from a Web
page; my Windows clipboard remains unchanged when I try.)

Not exactly sure what you want to accomplish.

A SeaMonkey profile contains settings for things (browser, chat,
e.g.)
that don't exist in Tbird so using a TB profile in SM makes no
sense.

You could transfer your mail folders/files from TB to SM but it
sounds
like you want to set up new accounts in SM??? You'll need to clarify
what you want to accomplish.

I want Seamonkey Mail to have the mail, accounts, address book,
etc. of
TBird. Can I just use the import feature in Seamonkey mail? Also, how
would I back up Seamonkey mail? Would I have to back up all of
Seamonkey?

This article should help:
<http://seamonkey.ilias.ca/profilefaq/#fromFxTb>

That's pretty complicated. It's too bad the Seamonkey import function
won't do it.

This would work perfectly for SM back up (MozBackup).
You can choose which part of SM you wish to back up.

http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/

MozBackup is compatible with:
 Firefox 1.0 or newer
 Thunderbird 1.0 or newer
 Sunbird 0.3 - 0.9
 Flock 1.0 - 2.6
 Postbox (Express) 1.0 or newer
 SeaMonkey 1.0a or newer
 Mozilla Suite 1.7 - 1.7.x
 Spicebird 0.4 - 0.8
 Songbird 1.0 or newer
 Netscape 7.x, 9.x
 Wyzo

This program is freeware (even for commercial use) and works on Windows
98/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003/Vista/7.

Mike, if I read between the OP's lines, he might want to use SM to
replace both TB and FF.

If he goes the Mozbackup route, will not this result in him having a TB
prefs.js *or* a FF prefs.js in his SM profile. i.e. when
un-Mozbackup'ing the two profiles into the one profile, he will end up
with an incomplete prefs.js??

I want to replace TB with Seamonkey mail. I don't want to do anything
with FF. IOW, I would like what I have in TB to be in Seamonkey because
I want to use TB for other email accounts.

SM and TB can share the same mail files. Copy the mail files that you
want to use to a neutral location. Then in mail account setup point SM
and TB to those files. Then any recent versions of either SM or TB can
use those files, no not at the same time.

Re: Adobe PDF Viewer Addon

Paul,

*Update Now* gave me the error page that I quoted. That's why I'm so
confused. There seems to be no straightforward and productive route to
a workable addon. I'd like to hear details from those who have a
working system. In the end, all I really have to do is download the
PDFs and view them in my standalone viewer installation. But, it's the
principle of the thing: I'd just like a browser with addons that work.

Adobe PDF Viewer Addon - Same question for Shockwave Flash AND Fox-It

2013-11-04 Thread Peter Anton
OK, I'm doing some serious housekeeping in my Addons area. I tried to
open an eGreeting card and just getting a black screen where a something
(a video?) should be. Shockwave shows the same error in the Addon
page. Is it them (rather than SM) also? Is there a Shockwave/Flash
alternative? And Fox-It seems to be the same, but different because I
can't even find it in three pages of addon search for "fox-it".

This message when trying to Update Shockwave Flash:

*Flash Player Plugin 10.2.* and lower (click-to-play)* has been
 blocked for your protection.

Why was it blocked?

Old versions of the Flash Player plugin are potentially insecure and
unstable. All users are strongly recommended to check for updates at our
plugin check page .

Who is affected?
All users who have these versions of the Flash plugin installed in
*Firefox 18* and above.

*(BTW, How do Firefox and Seamonkey version numbers compare for
   currency?)*

What does this mean?
The problematic add-on or plugin will be automatically disabled and no
longer usable.

Adobe PDF Viewer Addon

2013-11-03 Thread Peter Anton
Can someone explain the following page for me? I get it when I click
on the message on the Plugins tab of about:addons.

"Adobe Acrobat is known to be vulnerable and should be updated _*Update

*Adobe Reader 9.5.1 and lower* has been blocked for your protection.

Why was it blocked?
This plugin is outdated and is potentially insecure. Affected users
should go to the plugin check page
and update to the latest version.

Who is affected?
All Firefox users who have this plugin installed.

What does this mean?
The problematic add-on or plugin will be automatically disabled and no
longer usable. When Mozilla becomes aware of add-ons, plugins, or other
third-party software that seriously compromises SeaMonkey security,
stability, or performance and meets certain criteria
, the software may be blocked from
general use. For more information, please read this support article
.

Blocked on October 5, 2012. View block request
.

Am I to understand that there hasn't been a new version since October 5,
2012?

Is Ver. 9.5.1 the most recent version of Acrobat?
Is there a version of Acrobat that works with Seamonkey?
Should I use another PDF viewer?

I can't view PDFs in Seamonkey and this report page raises more
questions for me than it answers.

I'd love to see a new version that doesn't offer any new features but
fixes some of the very old bugs, actually. Even the rendering engine
still has such bugs. For instance:

Make a small image and display it on a page. When you change the size of
the browser window, you will always see the image the same way, i. e.
without a border. Now add this to the html file, giving the image an
"id" of "img":

Depending on the size of the browser window, the image will now be shown
with a black border at the bottom, a black border at the right, a black
border at the bottom and the right, or no black border at all. This has
been so for years, and I bet there's more than one bug open for it.

XPCOMGlueLoad error

Couldn't load XPCOM.

This is on Debian Linux (stable).

Fortunately, I found a solution by googling with another computer. The
solution is to start Seamonkey from a script that contains the line:

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/seamonkey-2.0:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH

Could this be an effect of the "fix" for "bug" 722262?

movemail bug on Linux

2012-04-27 Thread Peter Nieman

Hi,

Since upgrading to SM version 2.9 I'm seeing what appears to be bug 748593.

This bug is marked "unconfirmed". If a kind person with a bugzilla
account wants to confirm it for Seamonkey on Linux in my name, please do so.
The message I receive is empty in the sense that it doesn't actually
exist. There's nothing in .../Mail/Local Folders/Inbox. Just an entry in
the Mail/News header pane (or however you call it) like that:

Subject ""
From""
Date"01/01/70 01:00"
Size"0.1 KB"
As Joshua Root said in the bug report, compacting folders etc. doesn't
help. Neither does deleting msf files manually.

It's a pity, by the way, that Seamonkey seems to be getting buggier and
buggier.

Re: More on unexplained SM 'hangs'?

2011-10-24 Thread Peter

This hang is caused by SM 'helpfully' calculating how much disk space
you would save if you compacted all your folders after you just deleted
something.

Go to Preferences > Mail & Newsgroups > Network & Storage
and untick "Compact folders when it will save".
Then it won't do it any more.

Unfortunately, it still does it for me. I've tried this suggestion, and
the earlier one about deleting the trash.msf files, and neither seem to
have made any difference at all.

Seamonkey hangups

2011-10-20 Thread Peter
I use three computers regularly, and all have the hangup problem where
Seamonkey stops responding for up to 30 seconds at a time for no
apparent reason. I've actually had to stop using Seamonkey on one of
the computers now, because the frozen to usable ratio is too high to get
anything done.

I believe that Seamonkey is busy doing something that it thinks is too
important to give up CPU cycles to the user.

I've seen lots of people reporting similar problems - is there anything
that we can do to help find a solution? Perhaps some way of us
determining what Seamonkey is actually doing when it hangs?

SeaMonkey 2.5 regularly freezes for several seconds

2011-10-14 Thread Peter
I've got 2.5 installed on three different computers, and they're all
experiencing the exact same problem - SeaMonkey freezes for several
seconds (up to maybe 15 seconds at a time sometimes) very very
frequently. It's incredibly frustrating!

One of the computers runs XP, the other two run Win7. The XP and one of
the Win7 computers sync with each other; the other Win7 computer is
completely separate. All three have very large bookmark files, and
large email folders.

While SeaMonkey is frozen, the rest of the computer seems fine - I can
switch to another task or window and that seems to run fine. It's
SeaMonkey with the problem, not the computer(s).

It seems that SeaMonkey is off doing something that it thinks is
uninterruptable and far too important to let me use it. How can I work
out exactly what it is doing so that I can try to do something about it?

I believe I've had this problem for the last couple of releases, but I
can't recall exactly when it started.

Seamonkey Password Manager behaviour

2011-06-10 Thread Peter Brown

Hi All

I'm using Mozilla/5.0 (OS/2; Warp 4.5; rv:2.0.1) Gecko/20110604
Firefox/4.0.1 SeaMonkey/2.1pre - actually 2.1rc2

I've only just become aware of that Password Manager is now a bit more
of a pain than it used to be. I must admit that I'm not sure when the
changes occurred though.

It used to be possible to display all stored passwords by clicking the
"Show Passwords" button. Now that only works for the currently
highlighted website.

Is there any way of reverting to the previous behaviour? - or adding a
"Show ALL Passwords" button?

I ask because I just needed to check several passwords and had to do the
"Show Passwords" and then click "Yes" in the Confirm dialog for each
entry I wanted to check.

can't load new version

2010-07-06 Thread Peter Anton
I don't know which older version you were using, but you have to
COMPLETELY remove (uninstall) Version 1 of Seamonkey before installing
Version 2. Versions 1 and 2 are incompatible. Even if you install them
into different locations, there are some common file locations that will
overlap and cause conflicts. I would even look in /Program Files/ and
/Document and Settings/.../Application Data/ to be sure there aren't any
residual configuration files left behind.

I had an older version of SeaMonkey installed and it told me that the
folder was full that I had to delete some files and compact the folder
which I did. However, after I did that it still kept saying the same
thing. I thought I would just load the latest version of SeaMonkey which
I did and that would correct the problem. So I did that and it asked me
if I wanted to load that version now and I said yes. It never launched
so I clicked on the desk icon and it wouldn't launched from that either.
I went to the installation folder where it is installed it shows the
icon (SeaMonkey.exe) with a date from the old installation and not a
date of this installation. However there are other folders there that
show today's date on them so I know there was an installation that took
place.
What is going on and how do I fix the problem? I also clicked on the
icon (SeaMonkey.exe) in this folder and it didn't launched the program.
This icon has the old installation date and not the new installation
date. I tried to do a new installation and that didn't make any
difference. PS I don't want to lose my existing emails or folders in
correcting this problem if at all possible. Right now I have nothing in
the way of SeaMonkey. Thanks

Environment variables are set outside of SeaMonkey. How/where you set
them depends on your operating system. For example, if you're running
Windows/XP, one way is to right click on the My Computer desktop icon
and select Properties. Then click on the Advanced tab, then the
Environment Variables button.

On this page, you can set the Environment variable for the logged-in
user, or for all users (system variables). Note that if you set it
for the logged-in user, you may need to log out and back in for the
setting to take effect.

Best Regards,

My reply:

I posted a question several days ago about my SSL proxy function not working properly. I
use a proxy accelerator for my dialup connection. Even though I have the SSL set in the
Advanced section, I still get a proxy error when visiting secure sites. I have to set
SSL sites as "No proxy for:" in the proxy settings rendering them
non-accelerated.

Is there a WindowsXP environment variable that addresses general SSL
connections other than the SSL renegotiation variable mentioned above? And
where can I find a listing of WindowsXP environment variables so I am sure to
use the correct coding? Perhaps this is the solution to my problem until SM
comes out with an update that fixes this. I am downloading ver. 2.0.3 as we
speak and maybe this will offer some relief.

Any comments appreciated.

Re: Somewhat afraid to make the change from 1.1.8 to new SeaMonkey

2010-02-17 Thread Peter Anton

I rushed into ver.2 without unistalling ver.1.18 or learning about any
installation procedures or command line parameters and royally screwed things
up. I had to reinstall WinXP because of disk file errors. I routinely
reinstall XP anyway so it wasn't a super big deal, but I lost all my address
book entries and bookmarks and had to redownload months of emails from the
server. Now I'm using ver.2 and am not happy with all the bugs. Not sure
whether to stick with Seamonkey or shift over to Firefox or Opera and
Thunderbird. For the moment I'm just hanging in there on the hope that SM2
will eventually even out. And that's assuming that it will be supported
adequately by most websites.

I'd be glad to hear what others are planning to do in this uncertain situation.

Proxy settings in V.2.0.2

2010-02-08 Thread Peter Anton
I've just started reading about people's bad experiences with SM2. The
"unkillable" thing happened to me, but I clicked the icon again and it
worked OK the second time.

My problem involves proxy settings. I have a dialup connection with a
proxy accelerator. The proxy address is localhost or 127.0.0.1 with a
port value of 5403. Normally, the accelerator software makes all the
proper settings when it is installed, but I started having problems
reaching certain sites. I realized that it was SSL (https:) sites that
weren't working. All the settings under Preferences/Proxy/Advanced were
as they should be and I tried many different combinations of the
settings with no success. I am temporarily using the "No Proxy for"
field to exclude SSL sites I need to visit, but would like to have
acceleration for them and will soon get tired of entering new URLs into
the exclusion box.

Any thoughts, solutions or explanations?

Seamonkey 2.0.x seems to ignore most of these, and does not recognize

For me (Debian user), the solution was to add the following line to the
file ".gtkrc-2.0" in my home directory:

gtk-print-backends = "lpr,file"

Create a new file with that name and content, if it does not exist.

However, Seamonkey does not remember any changes to the printing command
you might wish to make in the print dialog. I think that's a known bug
(in GTK perhaps).

Right-click on the Mail toolbar and pick Customize. Then simply drag and
drop the proper icon.

So what am I doing wrong. I installed SM2, started it & got no migration

still no migration wizard. I can get profile manager, but no way to
import profiles & from what I've read just copying the old stuff from
1.1.18 into the folder doesn't work. Any more suggestions.

When I installed SM2 on a WinXP machine today, I didn't get the
migration wizard either. I uninstalled SM1 without removing its profile,
then installed SM2 and the wizard didn't come up. "seamonkey -migration"
didn't work either.

The solution for me was to uninstall SM2, then install SM1 again and
after that install SM2 WITHOUT uninstalling SM1 first. That made the
wizard come up. After that, I could unistall SM1.

Re: New SeaMonkey 2 -- Questions

2009-10-28 Thread Peter Lee

I uninstalled 1.1.14 leaving profile intact & then installed 2.0. On
first start of 2.0 everything transferred perfectly from my old profile
[& left the old folders intact].

Seamonkey 2.0 is working flawlessly & more quickly than previous version
[Win XP SP2].

What a great job the many dedicated Seamonkey developers have done.
Because, in addition to my paid employment, I spend many hours as a
volunteer in the community; I can appreciate the big effort these people
have contributed to the project.

Best is to deinstall 1.1.18, leaving the profile data intact, and then
install 2.0.

Is this counsel also applicable for 1.1.14 instead of 1.1.18 ?

Default Search Enging choices

2009-08-05 Thread Peter Anton
I would like to know if there's any way to add more search engines to
the meager list of only 3 that Seamonkey provides: Ask Jeeves, dmoz.org
and Google. It has been this way for years and (unless I'm missing
something) this seems like such an oversight not to have more choices or
to have a function to be able to add more manually. Is there maybe a
plug-in that covers this? I'd like to add Bing to the list instead of
having to pull up the site manually each time. - Peter A.

does not.)

Anyone have any idea's on why not? Is there some way I can 'force' the
info to be saved?

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

check your settings: Edit, Preferences, Privacy &
Security, Passwords, and make sure the little box there
is checked.

If you still have your old profile hanging around,
here's what you do:

Close SM, then locate, in the old profile, an 8 digit
file that ends in a .s, such as 12345678.s, and
key3.db. Now copy those to the new profile and put
them in the same place as the other location. Open SM
and your passwords should be there.

If you already have a password file in the new profile,
then rename it, and rename the old password file to the
new file. But don't copy over the key3.db file. Then
open SM.

Did any of these work?

I've never found that option to work very good. I
usually have to manually delete the index file [.msf],
and let it rebuild it from there.

Anyways, for your problem, it sounds like a faulty
addon/extension or theme. So try looking here for
possible answers:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Gray_bar_below_status_bar

OK, found that there are TWO cases where the "grey bar below the status
bar" exists. Unfortunately, they seem to be related to a windoze
install of Firefox. And neither of the two extensions were installed.

Also, there doesn't seem to be any way, under SeaMonkey to uninstall
add-ons. (At least, under the Tools -> ... menu options there doesn't
seem to be any...)

However, the fix was to create a new profile. That got rid of an extra
toolbar (which always showed up as 'minimized' - you know with the
'selector' sideways and the actual toolbar about as wide as the
sideways selector...)

Dunno which one caused the grey bar, but it is gone.

Thanks!

you can uninstall using the extension manager AND the
extension uninstaller: http://mozmonkey.com/

Perhaps one of your extensions needed updating, or if
you're using a non-default theme, perhaps its that.
