SM 2.46 eMail Loss
Hello all, I updated to 2.46 from 2.40 on my Laptop using Win Business Vista 2, I Am not able to retrieve/see over 18 months of email for only one account. I have reverted to SM 2.40 and still not able to find the messages... Is this lost forever? Now this is very confounding. I have tried installing as Admin, etc... So SM is not installing at all on any drive, so far. I only transferred my SSD's and HD's to the new system. I expected some re-installation but nothing like this, so far. My focal point is getting SM installed and getting emails then the rest to follow. You give us NO DETAILS ... this is my details: The SeaMonkey profile is for my windows7 pc at: C:\Users\RZ\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\ where I can see: - The "profile.ini" file - The "Crash Reports" directory - The "Profiles" directory -- under the "profiles" directory I can see: - The "ey8r9gln.default" directory who contains all the profile. I then just have a new pc With Windows 10 Pro 64 bits. I just copy C:\Users\RZ\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\*.* From my C: Drive of my Windows7 pc AS C:\Users\RAY\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\*.* To my C: Drive of my new Windows10 pc RZ is my pc-username of my Windows7 pc and RAY is my pc-username of my Windows10 pc THEN I install SM on my Windows10 pc And all goes well SM was and is installed on W7 and on W10 at default locations. Hello all, I found it to be more time efficient to create new profiles. I could not even get MozBackup to work on the new system, S, instead of fighting it, I just kissed it all good bye and started from scratch... Thank you all for your input and thoughts on this. Hello all, Can anyone shed light on RETR command when trying to dl email messages to SM from yahoo? The RETR command did not succeed. Error retrieving a message. In my configuration (and in general), it is at C:\Users\zyx\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\profiles.ini, where zyx is my Windows account name. The file should contain a pointer to the folder where your profile is located. That would be the item Path. I suggest you specify a complete path, starting with D:\, in which case the item IsRelative should be 0 (zero). When I did this, I then had to modify prefs.js in a plain-text editor while SeaMonkey was terminated. For preference variables having values that were paths to various folders and files, I had to change some of them to reflect the new location of the profile. For example, my home page is the export of bookmarks from places.sqlite (automatically done every time I terminate SeaMonkey). The exported file resides in my profile, so I had to change that from a C:\ path to the new D:\ path. Okay, David, just to be clear before I go off and start changing things in the prefs log file, for example, I can do a a right click on the file, then click on 'Edit'. from there I can go to 'Edit' then to 'Replace' where the values inserted are C: and D: respectively, this would make, in essence, the correct changes to the path I need in order to use the new profile? Seem To Have Lost Everything...???
Hello all - just as I was trying to perform MozBackUp on my Lenovo T61 the system froze and I waited for 10 minutes or so before physically shutting down the machine. Upon re-boot I found that a 'new' SeaMonkey window appeared without any settings or history or profiles available. I wanted to panic, but no I decided to remain calm and collected as it appeared that I lost up to 5% of my emails, 100% of my contacts, 100% of my bookmarks, 100% of my passwords, and just about everything else stored in SM 2.26. I know there must be more questions and facts which are left out here, please let me know what you need in order to assist. Any insight and assistance is greatly appreciated in figuring out if in fact it is all lost. Funding and Bug Fixes....
Hello SM Team and participants.. I have an idea about how to get bug fixes done, for those of us who really, really, really want them done ASAP and then some... How about assigning a monetary value to requested fixes and let us as either a group or individuals pay to get them done quickly, of course security fixes are excluded. I have one or two fixes for which I Am prepared to pay to get updated and repaired right away, if possible. This also goes a long way to support the project too... Just an idea to fast track some outstanding items. Thanks for listening... and doing everything you do to support SM and the end users. Truly labour and truly love. Create a profile called Alpha-new, with exactly the same server settings as Alpha. Drag and drop all your message folders from the Alpha profile to the Alpha-new profile (message filters will automatically update). Test the Alpha-new profile to make sure you can send and receive mail as desired. If it passes, delete the old Alpha profile. You can then rename Alpha-new if you like and it will not move, because it's newer than Bravo (I recommend restarting the program first). You are right, the profile menu is not sorted, new are just added on. But, you are working much too hard to order them. Just delete them but don't delete the files, then recreate them using the same sub-directories, but in the order you want. While you are at it you can move them to somewhere safe, like a data partition. If you are nervous about deleting the profile menu, copy them to the new location before you delete them from the profile menu. Ray Thank you all for the input. I was asking about the profile manager, being able to sort names there in a certain order. I tried using a # and different letters, but it just keeps adding at the bottom. Does this mean I need to go into settings for profiles and change it there and it will change in SM Profile Manager, where one goes to select which profile they wish to open?
