My point is that there is evidence of a road which, if you connect the dots, can point to the discovery of more evidence. I know of several patches of asphalt which are 8' wide. Why? Well, because a railroad used to cross the highway there, and they pulled the tracks out at some point. If you don't put this information into the OSM database, how are people going to find the evidence on the ground that YOU haven't found? I know of a place where two railroads crossed at 90 degrees. One of the railroads is now completely gone. But if you look at the rails, you can see two short sections of rail where they pulled the crossing out. [OSM-talk] OpenUnpavedStreetMap coverage extended to Asia and some European countries
Hi, The area covered by OpenUnpavedStreetMap now includes all of Asia, and some European countries: those in Former Yugoslavia, Slovakia, Belarus, the Baltic countries and Albania. This is in addition to Africa, Latin America and Oceania that were already covered. A new domain name, ousm.fr, can now be used as a shorter replacement for osm.arkemie.org/ousm in the previous URLs, such as in the message quoted below. Thus the global map is available at: http://ousm.fr Views pre-centered for some countries are available, with GeoRSS feeds overlay: http://ousm.fr/philippines/ http://ousm.fr/colombia/ or without: http://ousm.fr/haiti/ http://ousm.fr/indonesia/ More pre-centered views could easily be added on request. Zoom level can go up to 21. The database is updated minutely. You can force re-rendering of a tile with /dirty at the end of its url. Please be patient if you are the first to visit an area that has not been cached yet. Best wishes, Jean-Guilhem Le 20/12/2011 16:11, Jean-Guilhem Cailton a écrit : Hi, Knowing whether a road is paved or not is an important information for a driver, especially in countries where many roads are unpaved. This information can be entered in the OSM database with the surface tag [1], but it is not currently rendered in the main maps available on osm.org [2]. Seeing it rendered on a map would likely be an incentive for mappers to use it, especially beginners. A map with a rendering for this, OpenUnpavedStreetMap, is now available for Africa, Central and South America, Australia-Oceania (according to Geofabrik's definition, which includes Indonesia and Malaysia), and soon several Asian countries, including the Philippines (actually the countries available as extracts from GeoFabrik, China, India, Pakistan, Vietnam, etc.except Japan - considering dataset size). Surfaces tagged as compacted, gravel, sand, dirt, earth, ground, grass, mud... are also considered as unpaved, following the wiki page. Yes, we need *more* OpenStreetMaps from which you can fetch different types of information. For example, any data which is externally maintained and updated really *shouldn't* be imported into OSM. If you really want to connect the data you will have to have it in one database. Layers are only good for stuff that is not connected/linked, i.e. that is independent from each other (rarely the case for features like the ones we are talking about here, as existence of the roman road had an influence on the further development of the road grid). E.g. if you have a building of which the basement is roman and the upper parts are medieval (we can asume for this example that they both occupy the exactly same area), and you realign the upper parts (say you slightly move 2 corners) you will also want the lower one to follow this modification. The both are linked and for consistency a refinement of one will (in many cases) require also the other to be modified. We would need to have a way to link 2 datasets like: this line in dataset A is the same as this line in dataset B (or this line in A is parallel to this line in B). If you continue to think this and think about the complexity of the real world (there is not only a few lines but many of them, and they are not only the same or parallel but also orthogonal, or in the middle/center, or ...) you will see that you either keep them in one dataset or you will loose all these relations. Layers work well if both are only loosely linked (say you have temperature measurements in a grid and overlay them with OSM data for visualization). cheers, Martin ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

Opa...
A FAQ legal no site do OSM explica melhor [1].
Turnrestriction in JOSM).

I'm trying to do some remapping, and would be grateful for some help in situations I've encountered. 1.) Assume you need to replace a node which is in the intersection of several ways. If I simply delete the node and re-create it, I'd have to adjust all the ways the node is part of. This is slow and error-prone. Is there an easier way of achieving this replacement? 2.) Quite often the changes by a non-accepter are trivial (eg additional tag created by JOSM is the only difference. What's the best way of dealing with this? So far, I've left those nodes alone, but they will still show in the OSM-inspector despite being really OK. Is there any way to delete this tag other than re-creating this node which marks it as clean in the OSM-inspector? OSMI makes an effort to highlight as problematic only those nodes where the removal of decliner content will make a meaningful difference. It should treat the created_by tag as harmless, i.e. these objects should just appear in yellow which is not cause for concern. In fact I wonder if I should ditch the harmless layer altogehter and have nothing that is coloured yellow, it seems to confuse people more than necessary. The idea behind the yellow harmless thing was to signal to the mapper this object has been touched by a decliner but is still considered ok, you don't have to remap it. I did that hoping that people would occasionally check if OSMI does the right thing ;) but maybe the time of the yellow stuff is over. Right, which is exactly what is happening in this case, isn't it? User name is simply not revealed to the deep history viewer or in the /browse pages on osm.org. I was just saying that OSM used to allow users to go anonymous with a checkbox but that option is no longer available. It is however still honored for users who selected it back when it was available. Toby ___ Talk-us mailing list Talk-us@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-us
