More research confirming the water pipeline theory: - 1) http://www.lawphil.net/judjuris/juri2000/jun2000/gr_109111_2000.html Quote: Long before World War II, MWSS buried a 42-inch diameter steel aqueduct pipeline under the subject parcels of land. The pipeline drew water from the Wawa Dam in Montalban, Rizal to the Balara Filters in Quezon City. Fifteen (15) kilometers long, it ran through the municipalities of Montalban, San Mateo and Marikina. The MWSS property in Balara http://osm.org/go/4zhTl11z?m does indeed lie close to the line. - 2) http://inquiry.theguidon.com/2009/08/service-for-the-settlers/ Quote: Daan Tubo and Ronas Garden are owned by Manila Water Services and Meralco, respectively. Daan Tubo in this case is the informal settler area along Katipunan beside UP Diliman http://osm.org/go/4zhTkJ36H--. - Mystery closed? I must say that I find it amazing that this unused pipeline still shows it's presence even to this day in the form of roads, barangay boundaries, and informal settlers. :-D On Fri, Apr 8, 2011 at 10:36 PM, maning sambale emmanuel.samb...@gmail.com wrote: This would be my guess as well. The contributors aren't doing anything it is the OSMF that is holding the data to ransom. This need to be finalised sooner rather than later so that OSM mapping can recommence. The current license has worked well for many years with significant transgressors (Google, Waze et al) respecting it. I would prefer OSM worked with Creative Commons on 4.0 rather than deleting contributions. As to which licence we run under, it doesn't matter to me at all, since I believe it should be public domain anyway. Well, in that particular case, the automatic forward compatibility of CC-BY-SA would take care of it. I was trying to say that even if we had that forward compatibility, we would still be better off with proper contributor terms. For example, we have this situation now where we say if you make a web application and display your layer in a separatable fashion over an OSM layer, this is not a derived work, but a collective work. Most of us agree that this is how we want to handle it, but there is nothing written in the license that says so, and even if all but one contributor agree on this, that one contributor could sue whoever does what I described for breach of license. The contributor terms create a situation where OSMF can actually make a reliable statement expressing the community interpretation of certain points of the license, rather than the current well most people say this is so but of course we cannot guarantee anything. This is a good thing because it removes obstacles to using OSM data, and should be pursued in any case, even if we chose to ultimately wait for CC-BY-SA 4. Of course introducing contributor terms would always mean we have to go through the process we're currently going through, so the automatic forward compatibility of CC-BY-SA wouldn't help us in terms of having to ask everybody, risk data loss, and so on. Yes - if this interpretation is the more liberal one. OSMF would not be in a position to state that putting a layer on top *does* make a derived work, if the licence text and copyright case law said otherwise. Well, they could state it, but would have to go to court to see if they were correct. This is a good thing because it removes obstacles to using OSM data, and should be pursued in any case, even if we chose to ultimately wait for CC-BY-SA 4. It's unfortunate that the proposed contributor terms and the proposed new licence have been bundled into one all-or-nothing process. Since in the arrangement between the mappers and the OSMF specific versions of the licenses are listed, it is clear that these cannot be changed without a vote. BTW a very good thing. In any case as I pointed out before, the upgrade clauses allow recipients of the data to use a higher version of the license when -they- distribute the licensed object, they cannot affect the internal arrangements between the mappers and the OSMF. NPI stands for Nominatim Pre-Indexed. Its basically a minutely mapnik system for Nominatim. We dump the pre-indexed Nominatim database once a month here - so if you set up your own nominatim version, you no longer have to wait for days or weeks while your computer crunches through all the indexing. Then you can hookup your nominatim instance to NPI, and get the pre-indexed diffs..so once again you dont have the CPU load of doing the indexing, and can keep your nominatim instance up to date. We believe you should now be able to run nominatim on a reasonably powerful home-machine or a low end server. http://open.mapquestapi.com/brokenpoly - Nominatim has to check for broken polygons when it gets changes from OSM, and not ingest them. Twain has made Nominatim output the broken polygons to a list with messages as to what was wrong, and links to go fix them in the editors (JOSM P2). once someone fixes a poly, it comes back into Nominatim a few minutes later, and then it gets removed from the list. Hopefully this will help people pinpoint erroneous polys and fix them quickly! Feedback always appreciated, by email or on our forums. Hope these tools are useful! Would you guys consider removing this limitation? :-D Thanks, Eugene ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

[OSM-talk-nl] Gebruiker Emiel1 - wijzigingingen tbv fietsrouteplanner
Wie is Emiel1? You were the one bringing up this point, I don't believe I have introduced tainted data. Just to tie this back to my original point - lets only include data with the owner's informed consent or a known compatible licence. Once everybody on the project becomes a lay lawyer and includes data that they believe to be unencumbered, we'll end up with a right mess. Why confuse the issue, my point was simple, people haven't been allowed to make an informed decision regarding the license change, but have been pressured in various ways to accept the new CTs. It doesn't take a legal genius to work out that if you force people into a corner without giving them relevant information people will make mistakes, list Steve has already shown, and in turn breach the CTs because he didn't have the right to agree.
