[OSM-talk] ANNOUNCEMENT - Anonymous Editing being disallowed
Dear OSM contributors, Following on from the original posting to this list in February (copied below) and having further discussed at the OSMF board meeting this week it has been decided to finally implement the abolition of anonymous editing of OSM data. There were no objections received since the original post. This change will be effective once the API 0.6 upgrade has been completed. Please read the original posting below for further details of this change. For and on behalf of the OpenStreetMap Foundation Board Andy Robinson Secretary OpenStreetMap Foundation 0777 553 7872 a...@osmfoundation.org Name Registered Office: Openstreetmap Foundation 16 Oakfield Glade Weybridge Surrey KT13 9DP United Kingdom A company limited by guarantee, registered in England and Wales. Consequently, the subject was raised at the OSMF board meeting on 24/25 January. All board members were of the opinion that anonymous editing should be disallowed. It was resolved that unless serious and legitimate objections are received in response to this posting, the board would recommend that anonymous editing be prohibited. Currently, if a user had chosen not to publish their identity then when their edits are published their User ID and Username would not be shown. It is proposed that the User ID and Username of all users who make edits will be made public. Just to be clear, user's email addresses will not be made public, but other people will be able to contact them through the OSM messaging system. Any user who had not previously made their identity public will not be affected unless they want to make further edits. To do so they will need to explicitly change their user settings to make their identity public. All previous edits made will then become public, so previously anonymous contributions by that user will no longer be anonymous. New users, creating fresh accounts, have not been given the option to make anonymous edits for some time now, so this change will only affect a relatively small number of long standing OSM contributors who have not yet voluntarily opted to make their edits public. Anonymous editing is already prohibited for users of Potlatch, but is still permitted by JOSM and other tools that use the API. Unless serious and legimate objections are raised, then the board will recommend that anonymous editing be prevented as of implementation of the 0.6 API (and hopefully a developer will be kind enough to make some code changes for us). Re: [OSM-talk] best GPS for trekking
In general NiMH batteries loose capacity (read efficiency) when cold (10 oC), AND loose voltage (slightly) A problem rises when a GPS has a low battery switch off which may be fooled by that phenomenon. I owe a Nikon camera (used when mapping) that cannot operate on rechargeable batteries when below 10 degrees, in spite of a special NiMH battery setting. It takes 2 or 3 pictures before the camera switches off with a low battery message. Back at home everything works fine again. I'm, trying to keep the architecture open for other plugins that e.g. get such information from web-services or from other cars or from the user. no speed is given. If so, determining the avg. speed is pretty much impossible on a global scale as it's dependent of what the content provider uses for threshold. I remember in Paris an urban highway segment (speed-limit usually 90kph) is considered clogged if the avg. speed falls under 30 kph and it keeps that state until the avg. speed rise above 60 kph. But it is probably different values in some other cities (or on different type of roads where those limits are not adapted). I guess a traffic jam of e.g. 5 kilometers on a lanes=2 highway=motorway will have a similar mean speed everywhere. If not, some gpx/nmea -tracks should be able to disprove this assumption. Does anyone have gps-tracks where he waited through a traffic jam? I don't like to simply assume 0km/h = infinite delay for a traffic jam and like 3 km/h for slow moving traffic. So if there are no access restrictions, it would generally be a local-govt road and tagged as unclassified. If it's a local-govt way with access restrictions, the nearest thing we tend to have is highway=cycleway, with some additional access for farm traffic etc not generally seen as worth mentioning (you assume it exists by default if required). We'd only tend to use highway=track for non-residential privately-owned vehicular ways. Most fields can be accessed from a local-govt open-access road, so we don't have all that many tracks. I don't think that is so easy. To avoid conflicts, when replacing node/way/relation that is on server with newer version, server sends internal ID/revision number of the way and you have to pass this back (so two people won't overwrite the same way with their version and last upload wins - in 0.6, first one upload, second one gets a conflict and will have to resolve it first before being able to upload) You will have to add these revision numbers to all objects for upload to work, changing 0.5. to 0.6 won't do it ... [OSM-talk] Removing home point cloud(s) from multiple GPX files
During the downtime I figured I should really catch up with cleaning up my huge backlog of GPX files and prepare them for upload. I have many many hours of tracks on my HDD that I have not uploaded because many of them are polluted with point clouds around my house and my relatives' houses. I am not happy to upload these for privacy reasons and also for data purity reasons. I am not very command line compatible, and can't find *any* gui tool for Mac or Windows that will let me do this. GPX Babel only seems to let you remove points outside a radius not inside the radius, unless you use the exclude option which appears to be command line only. It also takes lat and long in an annoying format (decimal minutes, neither decimal degrees nor degrees, minutes and seconds.) It also seems only to be able to process one file at a time on the Mac version I've played with. Is there any program out there that will do this easily? If not OSM would really benefit from one, as I think there are many people like me who aren't uploading GPX because cleaning them up is simply too much effort. Here's my idea for someone with more programming skills than me: -A dialogue box that uses an OSM slippy map to draw circles of exclusion on the map, with a guidance note suggesting that they are near and covering but not exactly centred on your home/work/other point cloud locations. -Ability to batch process that's user friendly -Output to a new folder -Ideally, upload direct to OSM, to be considerate to other users, perhaps over a specified time interval. Any programmers out there want to take up this idea while we have some down time? :D Please? :) I'll upload lots of GPX files in return! ;) Thanks, Dave ___ talk mailing list talk@openstreetmap.org http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk

The License Working Group is now going to meeting twice per week and is currently waiting for the release version of the Open Database License, ODbL 1.0. -towo --- -- Hanno Böck Blog: http://www.hboeck.de/ GPG: 3DBD3B20 Jabber/Mail:ha...@hboeck.de signature.asc Description: This is a digitally signed message part.

Was verkaufen wir denn?
