Hello Tony!

If I see clear, you're running TB! 3.x under Gentoo. Right? If so,

CrossoverOffice, which is working great with shockwave and QuickTime
and so on, but I need a .exe to install. And TB! 3.x comes as an .msi.
Would you give me a hint? In case of beeing really OT, feel free to

Hello Stefanie,

A reminder of what Stefanie Weigel on TBBETA typed on:
  21 February 2005 at 12:36:13 GMT +0100

SW If I see clear, you're running TB! 3.x under Gentoo. Right?

Absolutely correct, but although I have bought COO 4.1 The Bat! runs better
under standard Wine.

SW If so, could you support me? Just a bit? ;-)

I will most certainly try, fire away.

SW I use Ubuntu

I suppose someone has to :)

I have ubunto myself, makes me giggle every time I hear the name.

SW I don't know how to get TB! installed.

It's a doddle once you know how...

SW I use CrossoverOffice, which is working great with shockwave and QuickTime
SW and so on, but I need a .exe to install.

Like I said, Wine seems to run TB! better than COO

SW And TB! 3.x comes as an .msi.

An absolute pain in the bum that is isn't it? I have asked for a exe
installation file but no joy.

SW Would you give me a hint?

Yes, I'll tell you exactly how I did it both with COO and with Wine.

SW In case of beeing really OT, feel free to mail me directly.

Things are a little slow on here so I'll risk a quick slap with a wet fish, I'm
sure they won't mind just this once as your not the only person to ask this
question and it'll be good for the archives.

I assume you have a working copy of TB running in native Windows. Here's what to
do.

1. create a complete backup of The Bat. Tools Backup.

2. Copy your whole The Bat folder from windows to
/Home/Stefanie/.cxoffice/dotwine/fake_windows/Program Files.

3. Create a desktop icon that points to
/Home/Stefanie/.cxoffice/dotwine/fake_windows/Program Files/TheBat/thebat.exe
The work path needs to be /Home/Stefanie/.cxoffice/dotwine/fake_windows/Program
Files/TheBat

When you run this it'll be like running it for the first time, choose the option
to restore from backup and use the backup you created in Windows.

To use wine just copy from Windows to /home/stefanie/.wine/fake_windows.program
Files and create a shortcut to it as above and restore the backup just the same.

Of course, your home folder may not be stefanie so use whatever you called it.
Also I had to rename my Bat folder to TheBat, for some reason a space in program
files is OK but not in The Bat!.

You may find you have no icons, if so let me know and I'll send you a set that
does work.

I've attached a nice desktop icon for you as well. It also works with Windows if
anyone wants it in ico format.

Any trouble just ask.

not the label themselves.

For example, under the Account menu, instead of:

I renamed the exe and the lng-file before installing the deep alpha and

To start with, I do not see the menu labels. I see the shortcuts, but
 not the label themselves.

I just added the recently posted batskin.xml and things do look a
little different, but still no menu labels in main window. In the editor
window I do see the menu labels though. Didn't try this before adding
batskin.xml so I can't tell whether that is needed or not, but I
suppose it's not related since I still does not see the menu labels in
the main window.

If there are also the following servers listed:

there will be a real Error message.

I guess it is only an error with the title of the message.

Also I'd like to be able to launch TB! from my desktop shortcut please. At the
moment all I get is the OTFE password box, I type my pass in and that's about
 as far as it gets.

Just rest your mousecursor for a second on an icon and you'll get text.

One thing that I think is odd is the fact that I drag all of the icon groups
onto one line, but after closing TheBat! and firing it up again, it's again
on two lines. I don't want that. But that's just a cosmetic thing.

 I can wait. :-)

I can wait too.I've tried it for 5 minutes and decided to go back to the
3.02.10 version. I prefer to wait for a more stable Beta version and leave this

In case you don't understand how things look over here, have a look at

It does now and I know why.

Right click your desktop icon and make sure the Start In box points to your
Bat directory... C:\Program Files\The Bat! or wherever you have it installed.

Why the last Beta didn't need it and this Alpha does I don't know but that's
 how I cured it.

 Yup, same as mine.

Well I just tried to cut something from your post and paste it here as a
quotation but right click does not work at all.

Never have I had to revert back to a lesser version, there have never been any
bugs that effected me that much, this may be a first.

With all due respect to the boys at RITLABS but the time span between the last
beta and this should have produced more than a virtually non useable version.

I'll stick with it for a day or so just to confirm or refute and more bugs,
after all, that's what we're here for. It is very disappointing though after
 such a long wait.

You know we are talking big changes here? And besides, this isn't a
beta, it's an alpha. Usually they don't even release alphas. I really
don't think it's fair of you to complain about the usability of a alpha.

But that's a discussion we have had many times, probably I shouldn't
even post this not to start another sub-thread about Ritlabs' release

very bad until I hover my mouse over them. It's probably just a setting
somewhere, since Dialog (a newsreader which also uses TBX) doesn't have
  this problem (see attached image).

- Sorting order seems to be reversed

- Ctrl+ (Ctrl+] on US keyboard AFAIK) doesn't work anymore

- Ctrl+Right arrow and Spacebar don't go beyond last message in branch

- Insert in message editor opens Attach file dialog

2005-02-21 Thread Richard Wakeford
Hello Stefan,

Installed into a brand new folder and I was well impressed that it
picked up all the TB! settings from the older version, filters, QTs and
directory destinations too. Here are some problems that have instantly
come to light for me :

The bottom icons in the micro-ed don't work.

Thread columns don't expand to the right as threads grow.

The message folder pane sizes don't stick, need resizing after each re
start.

Toolbars don't stay as put (and I've followed the message about editing
mainform.def)

Enter no longer moves to next unread message but brings up a seperate
message box instead. In fact I've not yet worked out how to get to the
next unread without recourse to the mouse!

I've loaded my alternate Glyph set from the previous TB! but it won't
show it's own folder or address book glyphs. I've tried renaming
GlyphsCollection and HTMLEditorCollection but still no use.

I'll echo Alexander and Dick. I can wait too. But I would point out to
Dick that there is a huge difference between alpha testing and beta
testing. I signed on as a beta tester. I don't have the time or the
inclination to do alpha testing. I was pleased with the announcement
that the next beta would be released with no (or at least minimum
number) of known issues. It seems now that 9Val's estimate of at
least one week for delivery time to that beta was somewhat... well,
let's not go there.

I think that the number of messages added to this TBBETA list will go through
the roof in a few hours..

Probably so. Perhaps a new list should be started for those
messages... maybe TBALPHA.
