I tried compressing all mailboxes to see if that would help, but I'm afraid that it does not. :( Any other suggestions? TB Is Crawling
I posted to the list at the end of last week, but didn't have any success finding solution. I have a little bit more information, so I thought I'd take another run at the list and see if anyone has any suggestions. :) We have several employees all running TB 1.60q on Windows98 boxes. Most everyone has had no problems with TB, but I have two workstations that are giving me fits. Specifically, when an e-mail is deferred to the Outbox, there is a delay of 15 - 30 seconds before the program responds and continues. In other words, when a user clicks the Put the letter in the Outbox button, there is a long delay, where the program does absolutely nothing and will not respond before the e-mail is placed in the Outbox. Keep in mind, that the e-mail is NOT being sent immediately, so (to my knowledge), there is no interaction with the POP3 server that is being used to send the mail. Since the mailboxes are stored on the server, I have added the exact same accounts to other workstations and have not experienced any delays whatsoever. This leads me to believe that the error is localized to the workstation and not to any server issues. I have un-installed TB, rebooted and re-installed TB only to have the same delays continue. Does anyone have any suggestions of how or why this is happening? Unfortunately, both users receive a good bit of e-mail, so throughout the day, these delays are driving them nuts. Thanks in advance! Slow Sending
I'm finding that it's taking quite awhile for an e-mail to send. I click the send button and it takes approximately 15 seconds for the e-mail to send. During that time TB is locked up and I'm unable to do anything else within the program. Anyone else run into this problem? Any suggestions on what I could tweak to have the e-mail not hang like that? Re[2]: Slow Sending
Well, it's not that the e-mail is taking long to be handled by the POP server, it's more that TB is just hanging there while it happens. It used to be that the e-mail would just go to the outbox and the connection manager would deliver the mail, while I could read other mail, etc. The problem is that TB just hangs there doing nothing until the e-mail is sent. Even just sending it to the outbox and not sending it immediately has the same effect. Michael T. Ashby Friday, June 7, 2002, 11:23:39 AM, you wrote: JR Hello Michael. Re[2]: Best Practices: Attachment Filters
I guess I mis-spoke a bit. What I meant to ask is that if it were possible to have the filter simply delete the e-mail from the server, not just strip the attachments. Secondly, I know that I won't open attachments, but I can't say the same for my co-workers. :-) I just want to be extra careful if possible. So, if an e-mail has an attachment with foo extensions, then I'd prefer TB not even download the message. Here's the environment: - Anti-Virus is installed and updated nightly. - There is no e-mail server other than the POP3 server that is part of a shared domain server. In other words, I don't have access to configure sendmail, etc. Michael T. Ashby Tuesday, May 14, 2002, 11:28:39 AM, you wrote: JA On Tuesday, May 14, 2002, Michael T. Ashby wrote... Re[2]: All this effort for what?? Batted-out!!
Julius, I know how you feel about the mailing list. I too kinda felt that way when I first signed up, but I don't think it's as bad as you may think. The Bat! is EXTREMELY powerful and allows for a LOT of tweaks and edits to customize almost every nuance to your personal preferences. I joined this list because I was thinking it would help me learn about the product faster, but if anything I found that most of the posts here are WAY over my head. :) Most of the threads here are not the typical fare that the average user would address. The average user isn't going to know, much less care, about the merit so PGP vs. sMime. So, take most of the posts with a grain of salt, because many posts here are dealing with beta, or just released versions and features that most users are not going to use. Personally, I've found TB to be extremely reliable and it does everything I need. Additionally, as I poke around the program I continually find more and more features that just blow my socks off. For example, I just figured out how to use Quick Templates and like a kid in a candy store! :P So, although you may see a lot of issues addressed here, don't take them to heart. You're looking at posts that have a high geek quotient and are far above the average e-mail fare. In my book, there is no more secure and reliable e-mail client out there. Michael T. M$ Exchange Replacement
I was at a client's site yesterday and we were discussing the costs and merits of upgrading their servers. After already receiving the green light to proceed an idea hit me. 90% of the upgrade was due to Exchange (long story), so why not just use The Bat! instead? I told the client to wait a day or so until I thought about it some more. Here's the layout: The client has about 15 workstations/users all using exchange. None of them use the PIM features. They simply use it for e-mail. So, TB seems perfect. Here's my question: What would be the best configuration for the install? I would like all the mailboxes to be stored on the server for backup purposes and I'd like some employees to be able to share a mailbox (tech support, that sort of thing). They are using TrendMicro's OfficeScan for virus protection (although I don't think there's a plugin yet for that) Anyway, what would be your recommendation on how best to configure this install? Thanks to everyone for your feedback. It's been very helpful. I'm actually shying away from having a mail server on the server. Everything that they do is POP3 based and they don't have the typical corporate mentality regarding e-mail. I'm thinking that simpler is better, having been the Exchange route with them already. Prior to saying we could do this, I had spoken with the person that had first turned me on to TB and his firm is setup in the same manner. With the mailboxes stored on the server, then more than one person can access the mailbox at a time and everything is backed up nightly - to me it sounds like an ideal setup for this client. NA I think the problem was that Eudora used Rich Text Format without you being NA aware of it... or something along those lines. You may have had an underline NA in your signature, or something bolded or italicised. Can you recall anything NA like that? Re[2]: Newbie: Can I Flter Imported Sent Mail?
Raj, I tried that as well, and that worked for some messages, but unfortunately, it won't work for most. The reason is that under the From header, all I see is my name, not the e-mail address. Since my name is the same for all accounts, there's no way to differentiate between the various accounts. The only work around I see, is to open each message. Only then can I see the actual e-mail address the account was sent from. But, I'm open to any more suggestions! :-) Michael T. Newbie: Can I Flter Imported Sent Mail?
Hello all! I'm new to The Bat! and I'm really falling in love. I've migrated from Eudora and I have a question I can't seem to find an answer to. So, I thought I'd toss it out to you guys and see if you can steer me in the right direction. Eudora handles all accounts with the same inbox and sent folders. I have four accounts in The Bat! and I'd like to sort all the sent items I have to the appropriate account. I've tried various filters, but they all seem to apply to after you've received, or read the e-mail, etc. For example, I have all of my sent e-mails in the sent folder of my [EMAIL PROTECTED] account. What I'd like to do is filter all e-mail I sent from my [EMAIL PROTECTED] account (which has been imported from Eudora into the ashbygroup.com account) into the appropriate sent folder. The end result would be that all items sent from the ashbygroup.com account would be left the in sent folder of ashbygroup.com and all the e-mail sent from the npug.org account would reside in the npug.org sent items account. Everything works fine for new mail, this only applies to the sent items I imported from Eudora. Thanks in advance! Michael T. Ottar, Thanks for the step-by-step guidelines. I did that, but for some reason it didn't work. No e-mails were selected and moved. I tried various combinations, but for some reason it's not liking it. Michael T.
