Charset problem with Plain Text (Windows) editor
Hi, Since version 6 of TheBat (i have now 6.0.10) i have a charset problem... If i create a new message, the new message is created with charset=iso-8859-15 , no problem. If i reply to a mail in charset=iso-8859-15 , no problem But, if i reply to a mail composed with UTF8, TheBat create the reply in UTF8 (header with charset=utf-8), but the mail is in fact using charset iso-8859-15, resulting in unreadable chars (as the mail reader try to read UTF-8 and not iso-8859-15). This problem only occur if i use Plain Text (Windows) text editor, if i use Plain Text (MicroEd), the mail is correctly using UTF-8 for special chars. Is it a known bug ? Did RitLabs plan to fix this bug in 6.0 series ? (thus allowing to customize menus with a command like Execute manual rule ...). I have a very complex IMAP folder tree, with some folders shared with my colleagues (my IMAP server allow me to open shared folders from my colleagues in a specific /Shared folder) , it means up to 6 levels folders tree, like : My Account/Shared/info@domain/Inbox/Customers/Archives/2012 ... TheBat! is really great for such a complex situation, because templates, filters and scripting are really powerfull ! Executing a manual rule trough the contextual menu...
Hi, I use some rules activated via a hotkey... example, i have a rule to automatically resend a mail to a colleague and then move the mail in an archive folder, another to pass the mail to an external script to inject into a database,... it's easy : one hotkey and all is done, i do not need to enter the email address of the colleague,... The problem is : choosing and remembering the right hotkey... thus i was thinking : in place of a hotkey, could it be possible to execute the rule trough the contextual menu ? Like right-clicking on the mail and choosing the rule in a list in the menu ? It would be great to add functions to TB! without programming AddOn... V5.0.8 - TheBat process remain in background when cancelling master password
Hi, I've the feeling to talk in the void since the new release of TB, but i continue... On my laptop i use a master password to start thebat (Pro, and thus crypting the mail base). If i do not enter my password but hit cancel, the windows close but the TheBat process does not close : when i open the task manager of windows, it's still running in the background... meaning that if i try to reopen thebat, it does not... i must first kill the running process then restart TheBat. V5 - How to remove attachements when redirecting emails
Hi, With previous versions, when redirecting an email, i could just select attachements and push the delete key to remove those attach, allowing me to redirect to a ticketing system the text only part of an email, without the html/pictures versions... Now, with the V5.0.8 it seems that i cannot delete the attachements when redirecting... is there something i'm missing ? How must i do now to remove attachements before the redirecting ? TB5 - folder subscribe without downloading headers automaticaly...
Hi, I've just upgraded to TheBat 5 and i would like to configure my folders like with the version 4... I have a lot of folders i want to subscribe to, but i do not want to automaticaly download the headers for those folders at each retreival, only when i manualy select the folder... (with 100+ folders on a GPRS connection, it takes 10' to just check the headers of every folders when i start the bat). Hi Jack, Two points... 1. Creating an image of your running system is a good solution, but never forget : it allow you to restore the whole working system, but on the same or similar computer... when you need to move to a new system (another hardware / another OS), you should reinstall from scratch your apps and reconfigure from scratch, only restoring datas there's of course a lot of solutions allowing you to (partly) restore settings, but you would have a much better system if you do not try to adapt your old settings on the new system, but directly adapt your datas for the new settings of the new system. 2. You may migrate a fat partition to NTFS without the need to reformat and thus without loosing the datas on it... have a look at convert.exe commandline utility what you need to know before : if you convert your USB HDD to NTFS it could not be used anymore on something else than Windows... it means you cannot use it anymore to connect to a PS3, DVD Player, TV, Photo Frame, audio car system,... and it could be much more difficult to revert to FAT than converting to NTFS, as windows itself does not allow natively to FAT32 format a partition bigger than 32GB... Hi Jack, From your message, i could point some errors you've made... Your old laptop and your new one does not use the same system (32 bits vs 64 bits,...), and thus you cannot just restore any file/settings like that (and certainly not any executable)... \PROGRAM FILES folder is for program running natively on the system (on your new system, 64 bits programs), when \PROGRAM FILES(x86) is for old 32 bits programs... Now you've placed some files of a 32bits program (The Bat!) in the 64 bits folder, just the right way to have mistakes... When you reinstall a new computer, you could of course restore your own data, but you should not restore settings as settings are partly dependent of the system. Settings from your old computer may not be adapted to your new computer (it's the case here with the PF directory name). [Feature request] disable auto-detection of S/Mime certificate to allow eID signatures
Hi, A small request i've already made a couple of time... just a hope that it could reach the right people at Ritlabs :) Could it be possible to manualy select a S/Mime certificate to sign an eMail ? In Belgium, we use an eID : the electronic identity card, with this card we can use an officially certified certificate to sign our documents like emails... the problem with TheBat! is that this certificate does not contain any email address : the purpose is not to certify the email address, but the identity (name) like a real signature, wichever email address we use... and TheBat! when i request to sign an email try to automatically find a certificate with my email address... of course it does not work : TheBat! does not find the right certificate as it does not contain my EMail address, and thus TheBat! refuse to sign the message... if only it could be possible to manually select a certificate... Of course, i *must* use the MS Crypto API and not the internal implementation, to be able to use the external eID reader configured for the MS Api... How to modify the inbox template and subfolders templates
Hi, I would like to modify the inbox reply template, but it does not work : when i get the properties of this folder i do not have any option for templates... for other folders i have no problem... I explain the case in detail : i have an account for mailing lists, i receive and send messages with the address m...@frn.be , for every mailing list i've subscribed i have a sorting rule and a specific folder. But sometimes, i receive messages directly in my inbox (like a private reply,... messages addressed directly to me and not via a list). I would prefer for those messages to reply with a different email address, and thus i would like to modify the default template... I know that i could modify the default template then modify individualy every ML folder template, but not very practical with 30+ ML... On the same subject : is it possible to inherit a template from a parent folder ? Define a custom template for inbox folder...
Hi, I would like to define a default template for every folders of a mail account *except* for the inbox... I have no problem to set a different template for other folders, but not in the properties of the inbox folder... is there something i miss or is it not possible ? I would prefer to avoid defining a custom template for every folder except inbox, i have 50+ folders needing to use the same template *except* inbox (it's a mail account receiving mails from mailing lists, every mail coming from a known list is moved to a folder for this list, in the ionbox remain spam :( and mails that some users send me directly... i prefer when i reply those direct mails to use a different reply-to address to separate direct mail from ML). Customize toolbar with manual filter rules...
Hi, I've created a few manual rules that i use with shortcut to execute some actions... Example : i've a rule for spams : the message must be marked as read and moved to a spam folder (Imap folder handled by the server for bayesian analysis). It's really much faster to just use the shortcut (CTRL ALT S) than right-click, move the message to the folder... and then select the right folder in the whole big list of folders... What i would like now, is to add this kind of rule on a shortcut bar, like the original Mark as Junk button... Is it possible ? S/Mime / TLS / Invalid Server Certificate
Hi, Two related questions : 1. I've upgraded from TB 4.0 to TB 4.1.7, but i have now a problem with TLS... My mail provider use a self signed certificate for TLS, and now when i try to use TLS with IMap, i have the following message : IMAP - TLS handshake failure. Invalid server certificate. The certificate or certificate chain is based on an untrusted root. I understand that now, as i have MS Crypto selected for SMime, TB use it also for TLS... my problem is : how can i obtain the self signed CA certificate used by the mail server to add it to the Widows Certificate Store ? 2. TB still cannot use my legal certificate... I have a legal certificate on my (digital) ID Card, this certificate is installed in Windows Certificate Store, i can use it with Outlook and many other softwares (Adobe Acrobat,...), but i still cannot use it with The Bat! : Cannot find a certificate to sign a message from m...@email.com... In the S/Mime settings of TheBat!, the cryptographic service provider is well recognised... I've allready posted this problem before, it seems that it come from the fact that this certificate does not mention any EMail address : it authenticate my *name* and not my EMail, i should be able to sign with my name a mail with any address... but TB only look for a certificate matching the from email address... is there any hope that this will be solved someday ? Sign mails with a S/Mime certificate from an EID card...
Hi, I've allready asked long time ago, in Belgium we have Electronic Identity Cards, those cards include a certificate allowing normally to sign emails... The problem : this certificate only certify my name, of course, and not a specific email address, as it's an official and legal personnal certificate... when i try to sign an email using TheBat!, TB search a certificate for my email address, and of course is unable to find my certificate as this is without any email address specified... Is there any possibility to tell TB that i still want to sign my emails using this certificate ? It do now a couple of years that EID cards where legaly implemented, can we expect an update someday to support this kind of security in TB ? No, i do not want a wordprocessor paragraph formatting : emails are just text, and does not contain any special formatting like space between paragraphs,... When the writer of a mail *want* to begin text on another line, they insert one CR/LF, when they want to separate two paragraphs, they insert two CR/LF (or more), but when they do not want specificaly to continue on another line, they do insert nothing... In plain text, paragraphs are divided by two CR/LFs. A single CR/LF is just a linebreak. I do not want to change that... i want to remove hardwrap, not linebreak But you point exactly the problem : hardwrap and linebreak use the same CR/LF sequence, that's why i do not like hardwrap. In a word processor, there are no linebreaks. You also have linebreaks in a word processor (msword = CTRL-ENTER). But i do not want a wordprocessor behavior, i do not want to just use one CR/LF between two paragraphs, in a mail for me there is always two CR/LF for that purpose, and one CR/LF for a linebreak... the only thing i do not like is to impose a CR/LF every 76 chars even when there is no linebreak... The fact that some people cannot write messages without hardwrap does not mean that everyone should, the only point is to know if there is people who cannot read messages without hardwrap... No, i do not want a wordprocessor paragraph formatting : emails are just text, and does not contain any special formatting like space between paragraphs,... When the writer of a mail *want* to begin text on another line, they insert one CR/LF, when they want to separate two paragraphs, they insert two CR/LF (or more), but when they do not want specificaly to continue on another line, they do insert nothing... Thats what TBs WinEd does, so go ahead and use it! ;-) I use it, my question is : why is it forbidded on some lists and sometimes even discouraged ? And the PDA mailreader does not have the simple mechanism to remove single CR/LF combinations and re-flow the message text for you? Poorly programmed, I'd say. :-P Again, it's technicaly not possible to disting linebreak from hardwrap... For a small screen device like a PDA, I could live with that limitation. It depends on the situation. I can live with it if i need to, i just do not understand why it's the recommended way to do when there are another way much more compatible with every screen and user wish... But how can you change the Wrap text at settings within template ? You don't need to. Switch to WinEd. It wraps only on screen, not in the actual message that is sent. Yes i need to because i do not want to wrap on screen nope, i like to write like i read : using the whole size of my screen. If i set Wrap text at to 76, WinEd do wrap my text on my screen (even if it do not add CR/LF) at the 76th chars, to avoid that and use the whole size of the editor window, i must set the wrap text at to a really big value (the maximum, 32000). An idea when TheBat! will be fixed to be able to answer mails coming from Outlook ?
Hi, It do a long time that a bug in TheBat! make it really difficult to answer many mails received from Outlook users... Those users are using charset=windows-1258 (that's theire choice, it's strange but not a fault), and TheBat! allways cut the last caracters of each header line, including the reply-to: email address, meaning that everytime you answer a mail, this mail is refused as the domain does not exist (of course)... Did someone have an idea when TheBat! will become useable to reply to emails and not only to make new one ? TB 3.5 - Bug with view by thread
Hi, I've upgraded to TB 3.5 (final), and i have a bug with threads : I have a rule that move automaticaly every mail i send from the sended box to the Inbox folder, so i directly can see my own messages threaded with mail to whish i have reply. Now, with TB 3.5, my messages are not automaticaly threaded anymore : when i send a message, this message is well moved to the inbox, but appear at the top of the list and not threaded anymore... i must leave the Inbox folder and come back to see my mail correctly threaded... Is it a way to fix that ? Using a S/Mime certificate with no specific email adress included
Hi, In Belgium, we have now an electronic identity card... this card include a certificate allowing us to digitaly sign a document/email... The problem is : this certificate is used to authenticate our name, not a temporary or a specific email address... it means that this certificate does not mention any email address... Consequence, when i try to sign a mail with The Bat! Pro, it tell me that there isn't any certificate for my email address (i think that The Bat only try to find a certificate with my email address, and refuse to use a certificate not mentionning it )... but i do not find how i can ask it to use my address-less certificate... With Microsoft Outlook, i need to manualy change a registry key to allow it : HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\11.0\Outlook\Security\SupressNameChecks Is it possible with The Bat ! ? Using 2 different configurations...
Hi, I would like to define two completly different configurations of The Bat on the same computer / user account... I've searched the archive, and i've found some answer for version 1.6 manipulating the registry, but also telling that the situation will change in version 2... i have now the version 3, so, can you tell me if there is something new ? Is it possible to start TheBat with a specific commandline to use another settings ? In fact, here is what i would like to do... I have a first The Bat on my desktop computer, using POP3 accounts. This version is configured to store every messages into a network folder. I would like to access the same message base on the network from my laptop when i'm in my house, using WiFi... That is working, no problem... But i would like also to use The Bat! on my laptop when i'm *not* at home, and thus when i cannot access the network folders... in that case, i would like to use IMAP protocol and leave messages on the server, allowing me to download it to my network folders later when i'm at home... I cannot use two different user accounts on my laptop, as i use some Offline folders of Microsoft, these online folders are only available to the same user on and off the network...
