Apart from my send problem, solved by MFPA, I shall be particularly

do

I am curious as to whether any logging in TB! could be turned on to
illicit help from those far more technically skilled than I. Either at
Ritlabs, here, or at my ISP, should the occasion arise.

So, is there any pertinent logging we can use to help fix these sort

Yahoo UK SMTP problem

2013-12-17 Thread Robert Bull
Two of my e-mail addresses are with Yahoo! UK, which allows POP3
access. Until recently YUK has used plain transport and everything
worked fine, but recently they changed to requiring SSL. Since then
I've been able to *receive* mail, but not to send it. When I try to
send I get this error:

-
Server reports error. The response is: 5.7.1 Authentication required
-

As far as I can see, I have the correct settings. YUK's Help file at
http://help.yahoo.com/kb/index?page=contenty=PROD_MAIL_MLlocale=en_GBid=SLN4724
gives:

-
Want to access Yahoo Mail from an email program like Outlook or Mac Mail?
Here's the settings you'll need.

Incoming Mail (POP) Server - Requires SSL (Secure Socket Layer)

Server: pop.mail.yahoo.com
Port: 995
Requires SSL: Yes

Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - Requires TLS (Transport Layer Security)

Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Port: 465 or 587
Requires SSL: Yes
Requires authentication: Yes

If your POP client doesn't offer TLS, you'll still be able to use SSL.

Login info - Requires authentication

Email address: Your full email address (n...@domain.com.)
Password: Your account's password.
-

I substitute .co.uk for .com, but everything has worked OK until SSL.
The settings I have, text-scraped from TB's screen, are:

Transport
SMTP Server smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk
SMTP Connection Secure on dedicated port (TLS)
SMTP Port 465
Incoming mail protocol
Incoming mail serverpop.mail.yahoo.co.uk
Connection to incoming mail server Secure on dedicated port (TLS)
Incoming mail server port 995
Connection timeout 6000 sec

Detail screenshots are at http://imgur.com/RfLCMJ5 ,
http://imgur.com/noH0ZAq , http://imgur.com/SNqRWlq

These look OK to me. I couldn't get Ultrafunk Popcorn to work either,
but the small, free, portable nPOP worked OK. So it isn't a problem
with my PC. I read far more messages than I send, and probably haven't
sent any for a while: it's possible this problem has only occurred
since upgrading from TB 5.8.8 (I think) to v6. However, I can't be
certain of that. My other accounts are Regular, so I can't cross-check
with them.

Any ideas, please?

Hello Luca,

If you select use SMTP servers on-the-go, then configure, you get a
shared checkbox, not working, for each server. Maybe in some next build...

You can't check or uncheck it directly with the mouse as one would
expect, it does not work. But you can do it from context menu if you
right click. However it doesn't seem to make any difference whether it
is checked or not.

My TB! version has no shared flag in the account|transport settings,

1. Write the same settings in each account that you want to share
   them.

2. Set the SMTP server in your TB! accounts to localhost and use a
local SMTP server program on your own computer to relay to whatever

Greetings Scott, 07:20, Thursday, November 20, 2008

I had exactly the same experience with Gmail. I tried all combinations of
STARTTLS and TLS, port 465 and 587. It simply refused to send mail. Very
frustrating.

Some weeks later, however, I tried again and it worked the first time. My
guess is that once it gets set wrong, something (in The Bat or Gmail?)
doesn't get reset.

Try deleting the account and starting with a new one. The settings Roelof
recommends really do work.

The problem is, it is The Bat. I cannot get Internode to work either.
If I can get both services to work fine with Thunderbird on the same
computer, why do they not work with The Bat?

I have tried them both months ago and had the same problem. It is
something wrong with The Bat.

Thanks

 Greetings Scott, 07:20, Thursday, November 20, 2008

I had exactly the same experience with Gmail. I tried all combinations of
STARTTLS and TLS, port 465 and 587. It simply refused to send mail. Very
 frustrating.

Some weeks later, however, I tried again and it worked the first time. My
guess is that once it gets set wrong, something (in The Bat or Gmail?)
 doesn't get reset.

Try deleting the account and starting with a new one. The settings Roelof
 recommends really do work.

It isn't very likely that it is TB, after all I can connect just fine
with TB and gamil, I don't know what version of TB you're using, but
gmail and TB have been compatible since the beginning of gmail.

When you're able to manage a proper download with another mail client

SSL SMTP Problems

2008-11-19 Thread Scott Sims
Hello.

The Bat! is driving me nuts.
It will not work with SSL SMTP settings with my ISP Internode or Gmail.

Internode Secure SMTP gives me this error when trying to send email
through The Bat:

!20/11/2008, 16:52:30: SEND - Message has not been sent. Server reply
- relaying blocked, read new mail, add 121.91.90.150 to forwarding or
enable smtp authentication in y

20/11/2008, 16:52:30: SEND - Some messages were not sent - check the
log for details

Settings for Internode are:

Secure SMTP: securemail.internode.on.net - Port: 465

Gmail SMTP gives this error:

!20/11/2008, 17:08:52: SEND - Server reports error. The response is:
5.5.1 http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=14257

20/11/2008, 17:08:53: SEND - Some messages were not sent - check the
log for details

Using settings:

smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
Use Authentication: Yes
Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL)
Port: 465 or 587

I've tried to activate the link Gmail gives me, but it still does not work!

Very frustrating. Standard non-SSL mail.internode.on.net works fine.
Problem is, I need SSL access so I can use with other ISP's.

Thanks in advance,

Scott

_I_ do not need it. (actually using Kaspersky AV 8, but it is the same
principle). In addition, the on-acces-monitor of the AV-Tool will
detect some malicious file anyway as soon it is written to the disc.

Besides of that, scanning for malware insides of archives is an quite
ineffective thing. One can actually hide very easily every malware for

2008-07-12 Thread . . . listen2reason . . . - Musaic . Net

Well, here I am again - replying to my own message:

Is anyone having trouble with TB hanging on logging onto the
SMTP-server? (Not TB per se but the *task* in CC.) I had the
problem with TB 3.99.29 - the problem continues with 4.00.24.

The SMTP-server TB connects to is installed on the very PC
that TB is on - that installation has not been tampered with
for over a year now - the problem with TB has been there for
 some few months.

TB says: Logging on to the server - if I am lucky, TB will
not get stuck with that task. But quite so often the task is
just forever waiting (for days if you're not restarting TB).
TB has apparently NO Time Out protection that aborts and
possibly retries from start. When it gets stuck it just says
Logging on to the server - and that's it.

 Any clues?

 Thanks!

I have investigated a bit more - and have found the reason
  to the problem - unfortunately, I haven't found a fix...or
...I have a fix, but it is no way a nice one...anyway:

 (I will be referring to

  TB: TheBat - email client
MEP: Mail Express Professional - SMTP-server
  CC: TB's Connection Centre)

NOTE: TB and MEP are resident on the same machine - hence,
the times should be corresponding very well UNLESS one of the
applications has its time completely freaked up. Which we
  cannot assume, really...

  Failing (stuck) message 1:
At time 12:43:21 the message had been stuck for 04:05:00.
So TB attempted access at 08:38:21.

  Failing (stuck) message 2:
At time 12:42:40 the message had been stuck for 04:00:00.
So TB attempted access at 08:42:40.

Time elapse is courtesy of TB's own CC.

Let's look up the Received from email client log from MEP:

Apparently, something is happening between the mail client and
the server. Then I looked up TB's own log (account.log) - and
found something very interesting at the times 08:38:21 and
  08:42:40:

  !12.07.2008, 08:38:21: ANTIVIRUS - The anti-virus has reported _

 for viruses
  !12.07.2008, 08:42:40: ANTIVIRUS - The anti-virus has reported _
an error, the object cannot be checked _
 for viruses

The Anti Virus that is running on the machine is AVG 8.0.138
(updated on a daily basis). And it strucks me...the problem
started happening after AVG was installed. So...

It is already fair to say the email server is innocent - the
installation hasn't been tampered with for a long time - and it
is running properly. However, one can also conclude the problem
to be in between TB and AVG.

I was actually surprised AVG was working on outgoing messages
as I have disabled this capability. Wondering if there was
something I had been doing wrongly I checked the programs
settings - and yes, it was disabled. Or was it? From the AVG
Overview hovering E-Mail it says Active. All well. But:
Looking at the Description of selected component it says
E-mail Scanner scans incoming and outgoing e-mail and E-mail
Scanner is active. One has to wonder if that line scans
incoming and outgoing e-mail is descriptive or if it is showing
some Status for the component, as well. Clicking on the component
brings up the dialog box for said component. From there it is
revealed that, yes, Scan outgoing messages is unchecked

IGNORE checking outgoing mail, yet it seemingly does check these

IGNORE checking outgoing mail, yet it seemingly does check these

  I just found out:

Disabling Scan outgoing messages from AVG itself won't matter.
Something else might have been set for the AVG for The Bat!
  Virus checking Plug-In, you see...

If Check outgoing mail for viruses is checked (Enabled) in TB's
  Preferences (- Protection - Anti-virus), well, then it is ON;
Enabled and utterly Active. I have finally (I hope) got this one
  Disabled!

  Actually:

It seems that users would stay pretty safe if Disabling Check
incoming mail for viruses PROVIDED the following is ENABLED:

Check attachments for viruses before opening them from The Bat!
Check attachments before the user saves them to the disk

To me it seems that Disabling Check Incoming is safe by the
very fact that one can't really do any access to an attached file
unless the two Check attachments have been running. I see one
potentional risk here as far as Virus checkers go: If you do a
scan of your computer, your Anti Virus program might try to look
into your mailboxes (.TBB). If an attachment hasn't been put
into Quarantine, but still exist in full code inside the mailbox,
your Anti Virus program might want to Quarantine it itself. And
it might try quarantining the ... ppps! ... entire mailbox!
Hence, make sure your Virus checker is told to IGNORE the
folders/directories where your mailboxes reside when it is
  Scanning your computer.

Use at your own risk - as for opening attachments, rule #...1
applies: Do not open ANY attachment you receive UNLESS it is
expected (or makes sense in your communication with the Sender)
or !!!at least!!! comes from a secure, known and trusted Sender.

  But back to TB:

My opinion that TB should protect itself from malfunction Plug-
ins apply - TB got to have a Time Out Protection - I would like
to escalate my suggestion to be valid for both incoming and out-
going message - in fact ANYTHING that is passed thru a Plug-In
where TB is supposed to resume control after the Plug-In has
  finished its task.

I have also found some suspecious and very similar behaviour
with Incoming mail. The behaviour is that the problem is also
there for Incoming mail - and bugs TB big time. Anyone having
problems with TB hanging while downloading mail while AVG for
The Bat! is used as a Plug-In?

Bonus Question: Do one actually need the Plug-In if AVG itself
is fully Enabled to look after your mail sending/receiving?

You're right, when TB! cannot connect for whatever reason, it should
timeout. Check this setting:

It is seet to 60 seconds here. I sometime get the message Some
messages were not sent - check log for details, and the reason is
cannot connect to server. So it seems to work.

In this case, the credentials have to be different. The ISP
blocks outgoing smtp traffic unless it goes through the ISP's
SMTP server.

Regardless of what username and password is used, the log
indicates the smtp authentication is not happening. I expected
to see something like

 C: AUTH LOGIN

before the MAIL FROM: line, or even

 C: MAIL FROM:[EMAIL PROTECTED] AUTH=blahblah

but I don't see anything like that.

Often they're only blocking port 25. I see that you're using gmail and

I still can't send email out. The only difference that may matter
is the non-sending account is really IMAP, and the second

smtp auth: what am I missing?

2007-05-07 Thread WL

Hello, all.

With TB! 3.99.3, I seem to be unable to use smtp
authentication. I'm getting a ``must first authenticate
message'' from the server. I must be missing something...

In the account properties, I have the smtp server using TLS.
The port is set to 465. In the authentication button, I
have Perform SMTP Authentication checked, with the specific
settings selected. I've tried tests with and without the
``Require secure authentication'' selected but the results
seem the same.

The protocol logs say:

 [18:49:11] C: Connected to smtp.att.yahoo.com, port 465
 [18:49:11] S: 220 smtp104.sbc.mail.re2.yahoo.com ESMTP
 [18:49:11] C: EHLO X
 [18:49:11] S: 250-smtp104.sbc.mail.re2.yahoo.com
 [18:49:11] S: 250-AUTH LOGIN PLAIN XYMCOOKIE
 [18:49:11] S: 250-PIPELINING
 [18:49:11] S: 250 8BITMIME
 [18:49:11] C: MAIL FROM:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
[18:49:11] S: 530 authentication required - for help go to
http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/sbc/dsl/mail/pop/pop-11.html
 [18:49:11] C: RSET
 [18:49:11] C: QUIT

It doesn't even seem to be performing the AUTH step.

Suggestions?

I'm not using earthlink :) but smtpauth.something sure sounds like they
require authentication before you can use their SMTP server to relay
messages.

Check Account / Properties / Transport.

There's a button Authentication.

Check the tickbox use SMTP authentication

Enter the username and password for your earthlink account below (or
simply use same user/password as for Mail Retrieval if its the same)

That should do it.

Asking the obvious but presumably Lycos has to be told to allow
POP access in a similar way to Yahoo or Gmail? Sometimes, people
fall into the trap of changing the settings but not saving the

Could it be something to do with connection or authentication

Does Lycos use the standard ports 25 and 110?

I personally think TB! is a perfect fit for small offices that can't
justify a full blown Exchange server. Just have to get rid of some
 of the kinks.

Just another suggestion. One thing you could look at is Mercury Mail
http://www.pmail.com/whatsnew/m32401.htm. It's free, very robust,
and stable. I've been running it for a number of years as have others
on the lists.

I will say however, that it isn't completely intuitive but if you were
to jump on the TBOT list we'd all be happy to help you configure it
securely and correctly. This would give you a real mail server.
However, I will say that this may not be what you are after and might
be more headache than it's worth. We can discuss it on TBOT though.

Force the use of SMTP?

2006-03-06 Thread Nick OHare
Hi All,

Recently I set up an account for a friend's small office and ran into
an interesting problem.

TB! sits on three different computers with one acting as a server.
Basically the other computers' accounts are set up to point to the
Messages.tbb and Messages.tbi on the server for each of their
respective accounts.

He has 3 different accounts, i.e.

   [EMAIL PROTECTED]
   [EMAIL PROTECTED]
   [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It would seem that whenever one account e-mails another it doesn't use
SMTP and then POP3 to send and receive the message, but rather puts
the message directly into the other account. The to: and from:
addresses are right, but a copy of the RFC 822 headers looks like
this:

Date: Mon, 6 Mar 2006 14:42:17 -0500
From: x [EMAIL PROTECTED]
X-Mailer: The Bat! (v2.10.03) Business
Reply-To: x [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Organization: x
X-Priority: 3 (Normal)
Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Subject: test 1441
MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

I'm no expert in deciphering the 822s, but in this case it doesn't
seem to have most of the information I see in normal 822s (i.e.
received from).

Is TB! being smart and realizing that it's really not going anywhere
so it just puts it into the appropriate local account?

Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

 Nick

Correct.. From the TB Help File - Network and Administration - The
Bat! Networking Course:

Local Delivery Technology is provided by The Bat! when the appropriate
option is turned on. To activate it, open the Network
Administration dialog box on the server, and tick the Allow Local
Delivery checkbox. This option allows several machines to work in a
local network exchanging messages without using n SMTP/POP server at
all. This feature provides a very efficient solution for building
corporate mail-exchange networks without using Internet Mail Transfer
Protocols. When the Allow Local Delivery option is on, outgoing
messages addressed to local users are delivered directly into the
appropriate message bases instead of having to send them to an SMTP
server.

LG Correct.. From the TB Help File - Network and Administration - The
LG Bat! Networking Course:

Thanks for your quick reply. In this case, the network isn't set up
in any of TB!'s server modes. All 3 are in stand alone mode with
each of the clients sharing the messages.tbb and message.tbi for
each account on the server, so I don't have access to the Allow

Are there any other possibilities that you might be able to think of?

In that case, I'll just attribute it to Bat Magic (tm). grin

If each machine connects directly to the internet to send and receive
e-mail but saves it to a network shared drive, then I don't know how
TB knows that it's really not going outside of the local system.

This is what I hear you saying. Tell me if I got it wrong.

1. There are three machines with TB installed on them. (Clients x,y,z)

2. There is a fourth machine which is acting as a file server.
(Server)

3. The server has a shared folder containing the messages.tbb and .tbi
files for the three accounts (x,y,z).

4. Each client has an account set up under TB for whichever mailfile
it uses. i.e. Client A uses a.tbb and a.tbi on the server. Client B
uses b.tbb and b.tbi on the server etc. (I used b.tbb just as
shorthand, I know they're still called messages.tbb etc and are just
in different folders).

5. Each client can send and receive SMTP / POP traffic directly to
the internet without using the server and the mail is then stored in
the respective mail file on the server.

SHRUG You got me how each TB standalone installation would
know which accounts are local and therefore not use the internet.

What SMTP server are the clients using? What POP server?

Are there any other possibilities that you might be able to think
 of?

Not really. I mean, if you had a local SMTP and POP server on the same
network that the clients were configured to use, you should still see
that box as a hop in the headers.

i.e. Received from clientA (IP) on SMTP server address blah, blah.

Now, if each client had all three accounts set up under each and there
was an outgoing filter to move the message to one of the other
accounts, then maybe I could see this happening.

Another idea is that if all three accounts are set up under each
client, then maybe TB is smart enough to realize the accounts are
local and does a local delivery. I don't recall that happening when I
had multiple e-mail accounts under one TB installation, but that was a
long time ago too.

 Again, thanks for your help.

No problem, but I don't know that I've really helped with anything.
grin

Can't Authenticate SMTP

2006-01-25 Thread Robert D.
If I use OE on a new ISP dialup number, I can set the properties for
My Server Requires Authentication ... and I can send email.

When I try this with TB! I get an error back from the server that

I have tried every combo of settings covering SMTP in account

get the following variations on a failure theme.

First the TB packet capture then the OE!

As far as I can see, you still haven't set TB to authenticate to the
server. I'll show you how TB's smtp log looks like with authentication:

[00:30:47] S: 250-otten.tv
[00:30:47] S: 250-AUTH LOGIN CRAM-MD5
[00:30:47] S: 250 AUTH=LOGIN

[00:30:47] C: more blabla
[00:30:47] S: 235 OK authenticated
[00:30:47] C: MAIL FROM:[EMAIL PROTECTED]

Basically this means that TB is skipping the authentication process at
your place.
Just to make sure that you've configured that correctly:
  Account - Properties - Transport
Here you see two buttons with 'Authentication'
The one on the top belongs to your smtp server.
Press this one.
The topmost option says:
Perform SMTP authentication (RFC2554)
check this option
It has a sub-option: Same user/password setting as for mail retrieval
That should be selected too.
The rest should not be selected.

As you're using the same version as I do, you should get similar
results.

OK solved wince

when I took a look at what you said about checking box for
authenticate same as pop mail inbound, I decided to check the box for
Specific Settings. I manually typed in the first part before the @
then typed in a password with THAT email prefix, not what I use for
inbound ... there is a reason for this actually, I am using two
different domains, one for each, until the ISP switches over to
fiber-optics

Anyway, NOW it works

OK, back to regular work. Thanks for the lessons everyone.

Here are the smtp reply codes:

RFC 821 August 1982
   Simple Mail Transfer Protocol

4.2.1. REPLY CODES BY FUNCTION GROUPS

 500 Syntax error, command unrecognized
[This may include errors such as command line too long]
501 Syntax error in parameters or arguments
 502 Command not implemented
 503 Bad sequence of commands
 504 Command parameter not implemented

You're getting a 500, that's a syntax error, appended with the
remark 'invalid domain name', so my guess is that you're forgetting
something or you've got a dot in the name without quote marks around
it. Something like this: R.Otten [EMAIL PROTECTED] is incorrect while
this: R.Otten [EMAIL PROTECTED] is okay, something like that could
cause such a reply as you got. When you really want an intelligent
answer from this list, you've got to come with more data, like the
exact From: header (and completenesss' sake an exact From: header too)
and the smtp-server you're using.

Just to be complete, here are the rest of the reply codes from rfc821.

211 System status, or system help reply
 214 Help message
[Information on how to use the receiver or the meaning of a
particular non-standard command; this reply is useful only
to the human user]

 220 domain Service ready
221 domain Service closing transmission channel
 421 domain Service not available,
 closing transmission channel
[This may be a reply to any command if the service knows it
must shut down]

250 Requested mail action okay, completed
251 User not local; will forward to forward-path
450 Requested mail action not taken: mailbox unavailable
[E.g., mailbox busy]
550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable

451 Requested action aborted: error in processing
551 User not local; please try forward-path
452 Requested action not taken: insufficient system storage
552 Requested mail action aborted: exceeded storage allocation
553 Requested action not taken: mailbox name not allowed
[E.g., mailbox syntax incorrect]
354 Start mail input; end with CRLF.CRLF
 554 Transaction failed

Read the FAQ on Gmail's site.

It says the POP functionality is in a test phase and will be available
to the users in phases. Obviously David is already one of the lucky

I have not yet this feature in my Gmail account.

seems that not all accounts can play yet. firstly you need to turn it on
in preferences in gmail. I had a quick squiz at the nice web pages where
they explain how to configure a dozen email clients (but not TB!) and it
looked like it was all TLS and SMTP AUTH so I turned it all on and voila
it worked.

Not having folders on gmail is interesting when you use TB!, as all my
email is one folder. I can see some uses for having IMAP support and SMTP
support is quite useful as well. Otherwise I'll leave my email up on their
servers as the search is so quick.

cannot send Email via smtp with Cegetel.net

2004-11-10 Thread Jean Claude Gaertner
Hello,
I'm currently evaluating The Bat and in the meantime I'm also evaluating a
new ADSL provider (Cegetel).
Let me explain :
I have Wanadoo ADSL provider on phone line 1 and Cegetel on phone line 2
On phone line 1 via smtp.wanadoo.fr, I can send Email via smtp protocol with
no problem
On phone line 2 via smtp.cegetel.net, I am not able to send any message at
all. The log report the following :
!10/11/2004, 08:38:24: SEND - Message has not been sent. Server reply -
localhost: Helo command rejected: Invalid name
10/11/2004, 08:38:24: SEND - connection finished - 0 messages sent
10/11/2004, 08:38:24: SEND - Some messages were not sent - check the log
for details
If I switch to Outlook Express, with the same parameters I can send Email
via smtp.cegetel.net. In fact I'm sending this message via Outlook Express
and Cegetel.
Is this a bug in the current Bat version ?
I have tried the current release version and the latest beta 3.02 beta 6
I would appreciate any pointer
Best regards from France

Does this server require authentication?

If yes... do you maybe filter spam with a local proxy? If so, maybe
you have accidentally set the authentication info for mail retrieval
(from the local proxy) for the SMTP server, as well?

Just a guess...

Hi Jean,

What has happend is that your email setting are based on sending email using the
Wanadoserver. This works fine if you are on the Wanado network.

To prevent spammers using email servers on other networks a lot of email servers
only allow connection to the email server if you are actually on their network
and do not allow you to use any other email address then the one of the network.

When you switch networks. ea calling on line 2, you cannot use the wanada
mailserver, but you have to use the Cegetel sever and apparently you also have
to use the Cegetel email address.

Also make sure that you change settings in both email accounts in TB!

To prevent all this hassle, you can use your own SMTP server and you will never
have to worry about what settings are used by any ISP ever again :-)

If you're on a dialup connection with a dynamic IP adress your message
will most likely be filtered as spam somewhere by a DNSBL filter...

Interesting. It would be nice to see what exactly is being rejected.

The Helo name TB! usually sends is either your machine IP or machine
name. I'm not sure why your ISP is rejecting this.

Take a look at this page:

http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2004/03/msg12871.html

When I send a message to my local server, the Helo name sent is
localhost. TB! is on the same machine as the server.

Wed 2004-11-10 05:31:41: -- EHLO localhost

When sending from my laptop on the network:

Wed 2004-11-10 06:27:07: -- EHLO LAPTOP-HOME

The machine name is sent.

So, it's very likely that TB! sends your machine name and your ISP is
having a problem with that.

It should be interesting to see what OE sends. I don't have it installed
though to check.

I just sent a message with OE and the Helo is:

Wed 2004-11-10 06:32:25: -- EHLO laptophome

I have no idea why the Helo command is rejected.

Your ISP is refusing the HELO argument you're using.

I've been doing some testing just now and found that TB sends the
machine name unless you're using an smtp proxy on your own machine.

Apparently OE is using the machine name, it looks like your pc is
called 'main', since that's what OE uses when communicating to the
server.
