folders don't show unread counts...

2007-11-21 Thread Tim Musson
tbudl,

I am running on XP sp2.
Have been upgrading TB from the 1.x versions.

Last couple of upgrades complained about not being able to find the
.msi file during install. I either pointed to it, or canceled and it
worked just fine. This past time, it complained about not being able
to find 2.99.3.msi when I was installing 3.99.29!

I am not worried about the above, things are running ok now. What my
current problem is is that in the folder window, none of the folders
display the message counts...

Another symptom is that the unread messages are not flagged when I
open TB...

Very frustrating.

Any suggestions?

Sorting Office question

2008-05-28 Thread Tim Musson

I recently started using SubFilters and am getting some filtering I
don't understand...

I have a Filter called Set Color that does nothing and is set to
"Continue processing with other filters", in it for example is a
SubFilter to change any message from family (based on AB group) to blue
in the message list. Yes, there are others, and they are all similar.

The next filter is "The Bat!" (configured exactly like my Set Color
filter) and it contains a SubFilter "The Bat! lists" which moves the
message to a folder.

Here is where it gets interesting! The SubFilter to move the message
is not set to "Continue processing with other filters", but it does
continue processing the other filters!

If I have a TB list member in my AB, then my filter at the end
takes precidence and moves it to Inbox-Known.

Any idea why that is happening or what I can do to fix it?

Hmmm, how about moving all the messages from the old location to the
new one. Then delete the old folder. THEN move/rename the new folder
to the location/name of the old folder...

You mention Compressing, but what about a Purge? IIRC, Purge is what
gets rid of messages marked as delete, and Compress removes the unused
space.

Help - multiple inbox folders in one account!

2004-07-10 Thread Tim Musson
tbudl,

The wife's TB (2.11.02) has 5 "inbox" folders! Also an Outbox, Sent,
and Trash... Only one set (I marked them with a * on the end) have the
glyphs indicating they are 'special' folders (for example the inbox
has a blue arrow pointing down).

Moving SubFolders has inconsistant results.
Sometimes it will show in the top and bottom one, other times it will
not.

Any suggestion on how to clean this up?

Also, any idea what the $QRNTN$ folder is? I think it is from the AVG

Here is what her account looks like.

Folder size limit not working ?

2004-07-21 Thread Tim Musson
TBUDL,

I can't seem to get the folder settings that keep a folder size in
line to work any more...

Folder properties:
Maximum number of stored messages is 8000
Keep messages in the base for (days): 90
Folder Maintenance Center:
Un-select all but the one folder (TBBETA)
  Select Purge old/exceeding messages
  Select Compress (remove deleted messages)

The folder has 9,466 message before and after running the purge!
I just upgraded to 2.12 from 2.11.02, and that didn't make any
difference.
Am I missing a change on how things are done (I haven't read TBUDL for

It has been in the recent past, I had to have a system board replaced

"Parked" folder under it. Move all but the corrupt messages (no on
parked) to Repair, then move all parked to Parked :-). Delete the

Ok, I did that (even closing TB at every step, which I have never
needed to do before, but I figured, what the heck :-). I ran a the
maint on both the temp folder before moving back, and again on the
tbbeta foder after moving.

No luck! :-( well, we did make some progress... It purged 1 message).
TBBETA now has over 9k msgs, and is set to only keep 90 days and 8000.
Not including the parked messages, I have them back to Jan of 2004.

How to change which account gets system MAPI calls?

2007-10-26 Thread Tim Musson

Been running TB for years and not come across this issue...

I recently installed an application (PackMaster - Cub Scout tracking
software from www.troopmaster.com) that uses the OS default mail
system calls to place messages in my Outbox. This works flawlessly.
However, I need to change which account is handling my these messages.

I went into properties for the account I want it to use and set the
default for mailto: URLs.
No luck.

With the mailto: setting on the new account, I re-installed MAPI in
Options | Properties | Applications.
Again no luck.

Each time I made a change, I also closed TB and tested. Then restarted
the OS and tested again.
Still no luck.

My OS is XP sp2.
I have been using TB from the 1.x versions.

A quick easy way to test this - right click a file, then
  Send To | Mail Recipient
That is actually how I have been doing most of my tests to make things
simpler (and rule out PackMaster being the problem).

Anyone have any idea how I change this?

The setting you chose only moved the file (in your case, the picture)
out of the messages.tb? files. When you are reading mail, it does not
look any different.

You can do a quick test if you like.

Create a new folder, then send an eMail with a large pix in it.

Change the setting, create another new folder and send the same pix to
that new folder.

Go to the file system and check the size of your messages.tb* files.
They will not be the same size and the diff will be approximately the
size of you pix.

If you don't see an obvious difference, run a quick purge/compress
over those folders and check again.

password before starting the backup.

Over all, it's kudos to the TB team for writing a VERY simple and
effective backup/restore solution in there mail app. (which should be
expected as that is a basic defo of TB! Much easier than the Reg
extraction/Zip solution I have seen previously (which I did just in
case as I knew 148f was the first release with the Backup/Restore
option).

I have exchanged mail with people who have this working!... However,
I have not been able to get my Palm to sync with TB (I think it is
due to other problems I am having on the Palm). I will post if/when
I get it working (if the following has not been verified to work by
then).

I would say the instructions on how to Sync TB mail and the Palm are
as follows (after various eMail exchanges including Stefan, Frank
Weidmann, and others on the list).

TB needs to be your default MAPI mailer, and must open a TB message
for mailto: URL's. For example the http code
mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]">[EMAIL PROTECTED]
on a web page should open a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the
"from" account you selected on the bottom line (second field from the
right).

In HotSync Manager select Custom | Mail | Change and ensure/change
your mail system to M$ Outlook Express or Eudora. Also, HotSync must
be set to Synchronize Files for Mail.

On your Palm, in the Mail app HotSync Options (/H or, Options|HotSync)
select "All" and the mail in your TB Inbox & Outbox should sync with
the Palm Inbox & Outbox.

All this using:
Palm OS v3.3
HotSync Manager v3.1.2
Palm Desktop v3.0.1,
Palm Desktop Mail Conduit.

Shift+Ctrl+Del bug?

2002-07-06 Thread Tim Musson

The,

I have noticed an odd behavior after upgrading to 1.60

  Here is the scenario...
View \ View threads by \ References
View \ Sort by \ Received time (Descending)

I am reading list mail (like TBUDL) and come to a subject line
I have no interest in, so with just the top message selected
(and the thread collapsed), I use the 'Shift+Ctrl+Del' hot key.

   Now for the odd part.

Say there were 5 messages in the thread when I deleted. Now I
have the next 5 messages highlighted! If I were expecting to
delete 2 threads by hitting the delete button 2 times (if I
didn't want to read 2 threads...) I have just deleted a whole
  lot of mail unexpectedly!

I don't recall this happening in previous versions, and think I
would as I do that type of thing all the time.

Any one else see this? Any solutions? Have I got something set
   odd?

BTW, I can not necessarily reproduce on demand, and it does *not*
   always happen. :-(

It gets worse... I was paying attention as I was going through my
Perl list, and found a 5 msg thread that when deleted left me with the
next 5 messages highlighted.

So. I went to the trash and moved them back and tried again (a few
times) and guess what. It did not happen!

Now as I am continuing my reading, I delete a message with just the
delete key (single msg, no thread) and guess what! I now have the
next 2 messages highlighted (2 top level collapsed threads)!

Frustrated.

You can already sync eMail via the standard MAPI feature of both TB &
Palm. I have not even heard of any rumors about adding to that
functionality...

We are trying to get something together to allow an AB Sync.

You should not need to touch the .ini files. I only included it in
the FAQ because I found it interesting, and was going to try to get
more information from Palm about the format. Unfortunately, Palm said
'we don't support changing the .ini file by hand, so we are not going
to give you any information about it.'

If someone were to write a conduit to sync Palm mail and TB mail, it
would be similar customizations.

JN> So it seems to me likely that, if someone is going to develop a

I am involved in trying to get the AB conduit put together, and there
has not been any discussion about adding eMail sync...

Nit-picking... POP3 is only to get mail from the server, you use SMTP

Interesting, I thought that what you were seeing in the message editor

Move message store and executables?

2002-07-18 Thread Tim Musson

Good morning all

I currently have TB installed in d:\The Bat! with my default 'MAIL'
dir under it.

I am looking to put TB executable files back in the default of
c:\Program Files\The Bat! and move the default MAIL folder to e:\Mail.

What is the best way to do this?

I know I can go into an account an change where it lives, but would
rather move it using the OS, and change the default. That way new
accounts come up in the e:\Mail dir.

PC>well, what I MEANT was not how to copy and paste, but what the H&!!
PC> it actually means.

I can take a stab at this one. However, I would suggest you create
the template the way Marck did. Go into the Filter tool, and do it
there... That said,

,- [ ]
| BeginFilter
| Name: Vizzavi Mail Administrator <<- Filter name
| Active: 1 <<- On or off (1/0) at a guess
| Source: \\Marck\Inbox <<- Source Folder
| Target: \\Marck\Trash <<- Target Folder
| CopyFolder: none <<- I read this as 'don't put a
|copy of the message in another folder.
| MainSet: [EMAIL PROTECTED] <<- Search string to identify msg
| MainSet: 20Mail System Error - Returned Mail <<- Second Search str
| Actions: faMarkRead,faAutoReply<<- What to do Mark it Read,
| Create Reply
|
|ReplyTemplate:%CC\3D\[EMAIL PROTECTED];[EMAIL PROTECTED];[EMAIL PROTECTED]\22\0D\0AYou\20are\20writing\20to\20the\20wrong\20address.\0D\0A\0D\0AI\20may\20be\20the\20originator\20but\20I\27m\20NOT\20the\20sender.\0D\0A\0D\0APlease\20configure\20your\20server\20to\20send\20NDRs\20to\20the\20right\20address.\0D\0A\0D\0A8<---\0D\0A%QUOTESTYLE\3D\22NONE\22\0D\0A%HEADERS\0D\0A%TEXT\0D\0A\0D\0A
| This one is the template used to create the reply
| The odd stuff you see is mostly formatting (look for
| /20 - I believe that translates to a 'space' char).
| I think there is an RFC that defines things like /20,
| but I don't know what it is - anyone else have a
| source for info on the translations? Web documents use
| the codes like /20 also - problems putting a space in
| a URL, so they translate to /20...
| EndFilter <<- End of Filter
`-

Again, I would suggest creating in TB's filter tool, the copy/paste
into an editor (SmartBat). I am guessing you can rip out any fields
that are not set.

,- [People on this list are much happier if you use a "Cut Mark"]
| This is a "special sequence that starts on a new line and consists of
| two dashes (minus signs) and a space followed by another new line.
|
|
|
| This "cut mark" is recognized by many eMail programs and is used as a
| cut off point for signatures. That way, when someone replies to one of
| your messages, your signature (anything below the cut mark) is
| removed. Likewise, when you reply to a message from someone that
| includes cut mark, The Bat! will remove anything below the cut mark
| from the text you quote.

Now within TB. However, you can create a batch file that

1. backs up the reg key (see )
2. backs up the TB file systems (copy, compress, etc.)

Then schedule the batch file to run.

I would suggest a little different approach. Put all your spam
addresses in a 'spamers' AB group, then have your filter process
against that AB group. That way you don't need to modify your filter
each time you want to add a new spamer. All you would need to do is
highlight the msg and Ctrl-W to add the new spamer to the AB Group and
away you go...

btw, you would do this on the 'Advanced' tab most of the way to the
bottom. Look for 'Address(es) must be listed in the address book:'
section.

FAQ Submission: Re: Done - Re: Move message store and executables?

2002-07-24 Thread Tim Musson

Hey Marck,

My MUA believes 'The Bat! (v1.62/Beta1)' was used
to write [EMAIL PROTECTED]">mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED]
on Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at 3:06:55 PM.

MDP> Thanks Tim - that will help a lot!

 Here it is...

Question:
I have The Bat! installed and running fine, but want to move it to
another folder/disk.

For example, I have:
D:\The Bat!\ <--contains the executables
D:\The Bat!\MAIL\ <--is the default Account location

What I want is:
C:\Program Files\The Bat!\
E:\MAIL\

Answer:
Make a backup of both the Registry & your The Bat! folders!

,- [ Run this command line to save the RIT part of the Registry ]
| regedit /e TheBatRegBU.reg HKEY_CURRENT_USER\software\rit
`-

Rename the D:\The Bat!\ directory (this is your backup!)
Copy the MAIL directory to E:\
Copy everything *except* the MAIL directory to C:\Program Files\The Bat!

Edit two [...CURRENT_USER\software\rit\The Bat!] Registry entries
,- [ Before ]
| "Working Directory"="D:\\The Bat!\\MAIL\\"
| "EXE path"="D:\\The Bat!\\thebat.exe"
`-
,- [ After ]
| "Working Directory"="E:\\MAIL\\"
| "EXE path"="C:\Program Files\\The Bat!\\thebat.exe"
`-

When The Bat! is next started;
You will need to associate it as the default eMail client again.
You will have to open your Address Books again.

Note: I checked, and did not lose anything from SmartBat, Filters, or
Quick Templates. Also, I had my Palm set up to sync eMail with The
Bat!, and it worked with no problmes!

2002-07-25 Thread Tim Musson

Palm & The Bat! users,

If you are interested in syncing your Palm.AB with The Bat!'s Address
Book, please join the ptbsC group at Yahoo so we can find out what
features, etc. are wanted/needed. Some things will be in Poll format,
others just in question format on the list.

A new poll has been created for the

Is there a need to be able to overwrite
the Palm or The Bat! Address books
using the new ptbs Conduit? (The ptbs
Conduit will default to a full Sync.)

  o No
  o Yes - Palm.AB --> TB.AB
  o Yes - TB.AB --> Palm.AB
o Yes - I would like both options

To vote, please visit the following web page:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ptbsC/surveys?id=21571

Note: Please do not reply to this message. Poll votes are
not collected via email. To vote, you must go to the Yahoo! Groups

I am not sure this will work, but I belive the file that would need to
be 'swapped' is account.cfg in the MAIL\AccountName folder. It is
worth a try.

Note account.cfg is not a plain ASCII file.

I seem to recall seeing a thread like this before, & IIRC when
creating the account the second time, you need to be careful. I think
it was mentioned that when you create the account the second time, it
cleared all the settings! Probably best to *not* test this with a
live mail account.

Re: Problem Synching with Palm

Hey Sudip,

SP> Hi Batpeople,

SP> I have two specific problems with managing e-mail between TB! and
SP> Palm. I'll state them in order of their importance.

SP> 1. I can send e-mail from Palm to TB's outbox without any problem but
SP>it's not working the other way around, i.e. I can't get mail from
SP>TB's inbox to Palm. When synching with an option to receive only
SP>Unread messages from TB!, the HotSync as well as the entire sync
SP>process freezes. However, as I mentioned, synching with Palm's
SP>HotSync option 'Send Only' works as it's supposed to. Any thoughts
SP>on why this is happening? And yes, I did mark a message unread in
SP>TB's inbox before synching. I haven't tested the synch with two
SP>other HotSync options: 'All' and 'Filter'

I have not tried the Unread option (just to make sure we are on the
same page, that is in the Mail app on the Palm - Menu \ Options \
HotSync Options... - yes?

I would suggest you try setting it to All and see what happens (less
for the conduit to 'think' about).

SP> 2. Is there any way to wrap mail messages in Palm?

Not that I know of. I don't usually send long messages from my Palm,
just meeting notes, etc.

SP> So far, I've been opening them, once they're in TB's outbox, and
SP> doing Alt + L. Is it possible to automate this from within TB?

I would say Yes, that is something you should be able to automate.
Create a Quick template that modifies the message as you would like
(ie, change the sig too).

SP> Also, maybe a third party mail software for Palm is capable of
SP> this, but I have only tested Orion mail so far - It doesn't wrap.

I would say there is a good chance of finding something to do what you
want, but I have not looked as I found the Palm eMail app fits my
needs..

JN> What "Palm eMail app" are you referring to?

That would be the one that is part of the PalmOS. If you pick the
'home' silk screen button, it is listed as "Mail".
