[tw] Kommentar in Makrotiddler

2018-01-24 Thread Gerald Weis
Hallo Leute,

SImon,

Sorry, It all made sense when I posted the above comment, but now I am not
so sure.

Perhaps I was suggesting a list of toggles for global settings or features,
all on one page, rather than needing to go looking for them.

I know about that plugin - you need to know that press / tap / drag / ...
recognition is right there inside muuri - you just write some lines of code
and you have it. this comes natural to use somehow.

Look at the press/hold to open the sidebar. That's a very pleasant way to
open and close it. Try it on a mobile device, too

For the tapping / clicking I know that it's to discuss.

Unfortunately this does not seem to be working for me, even when I

2018-01-24 Thread 'Surya' via TiddlyWiki
Hi Mal,

I imported my pictures at first too. And they are really small (in MB).

But I when the wiki is finished I will have maybe 500 pictures or more or
less- I don't know yet. Because I cannot say how much I will have & how
much the size increases with that, I prefer going on the safe side and load
them up with a service, for getting an URL.

I don't like that- really not.

But it's the safe side for the size.

[tw] Re: Where to edit format of deadline-date in view in ToDoNow?

2018-01-24 Thread 'Surya' via TiddlyWiki
Hello Thomas,

everything is great now :-)

I am moving all my tasks now to ToDoNow.

I tested a big TW5-wiki (15MB) on my tablet- where I will work with my
ToDo-Lists when the lists are finished.
And I had almost no problem with it.
So I am not anymore worried so much about the size.

And, as I said, I managed it now to show me a ToDo-List which is almost
perfectly designed for me :-)

Maybe I will come back one time to you for asking some design wishes
(making some things a bit smaller, changing the colour of some icons and
placing the title after the deadline, datepicker, editor & details).
But for now it is not so important. Now I have to edit all my tasks and
build new ones and so on.

Also the "late" marker is now shown :-)

I give you ten kisses for answering :-)
Surya

[tw] Re: At which size does a wiki begin to make problems (on mobile devices AND on computer)?

2018-01-24 Thread Mal
Surya,

I look after some medical tiddlywikis with quite a few embedded images and
I get reports of poor performance if they get over about 35-40 MB, so I
then shrink the images and performance improves.

This wiki is synchronized using Dropbox across various devices including an
iPad and an iPhone. However, any editing is done on a desktop or laptop.

[tw] Where to edit format of deadline-date in view in ToDoNow?

2018-01-24 Thread Thomas Elmiger
Hi Surya

Translations, date and time format

1. Clone one of the following language tiddlers, set a new ending for the
title, e.g. …/de-foo (do not change the rest of the title):

[...]
$:/plugins/telmiger/lib/languages/de-DE

So name your version e.g.
$:/plugins/telmiger/lib/languages/de-Surya

In this tiddler change this line:

date-deadline-tmpl: 0DD.0MM.

to the format you want.

Then choose your own «language» on the configuration tab of the plugin: de-Surya

Please ask again if this is not clear enough!

[tw] Re: [TiddlyTouch] 0.1.0 beta Release

2018-01-24 Thread TonyM
I will just add here,

If you have a large list that you step through to select something, it is
helpful for browsing and select one at a time=, especially at setup
To accommodate those who may swish to toggle between one or more in the
list, simply provide the ability to *make a simple button* to select a
named (or numbered item) from the list.
Now any user can build the tools to use it however they wish rather than
dictate. Its like providing API's

This matches the TiddlyWiki Philosophy elsewhere.

Tony

[tw] Re: Create a tiddler with pre defined fields

2018-01-24 Thread TonyM
Passingby,

I agree with Marks approach but think it could be enhanced by using a
fields existence to define a tiddler as a contact eg full-name

Then in a tiddler tagged to appear in the view template, if the full-name
field exists has[full-name] then it is a contact and you can provide tools
for managing contacts.

Once the first field is created one or more create fields can be
displayed/creation buttons provided etc... (if they do not exist)

If you design it correctly you can click on any tiddler link and make it a
contact, or use <> to state it explicitly, or have the
details for contacts display automatically when opening such tiddlers.

This advice is only general in nature

2018-01-24 Thread 'Mark S.' via TiddlyWiki
I think my way would be to make a macro and use it instead of links.
Something like

<>

If "jane" exists, it displays a link. If "jane" doesn't exist, it displays
a button labeled "jane". Click on the button to create the new "jane"
tiddler. I haven't thought through the details, but I'm pretty sure all
this is possible. I'm sure a macro that displays both a link and a button
is possible, if nothing else.

Some others may have creative suggestions as well.

Good luck,

[tw] Create a tiddler with pre defined fields

2018-01-24 Thread passingby
So in my TW I have tiddler in which I mention people's names, either in
content or in a field. There are separate tiddlers containing information
about these people. For example a tiddler's name john would have his
contact information, some background information and how I know him
personally etc. Usually I create a contact tiddler with all the various
fields pre-defined and I just fill in some of them. For example, address,
reference, email, phone etc. But sometimes while writing down an event I
would mention some new names like jane. Now what I want is that when I
click on jane from an event tiddler it should create a new contact
tiddler with pre defined blank fields. What would be the best way to do it?

I thought on this line:
Have an edit tiddler template which checks if a tiddler is tagged as
contact. If it is then shows up a button which contains actions which
create the relevant fields if not already existing. So then when I click on
undefined tiddler jane. Missing tiddler jane comes up. Go into edit
mode to create the tiddler. Tag it as 'contact'. As soon as i add the tag
contact the button shows up which I click to add all the relevant fields in
one go.

I have this template tiddler:

\define my-actions()
<$action-sendmessage $message="tm-add-field" $param="address"/>
<$action-sendmessage $message="tm-add-field" $param="phone"/>
<$action-sendmessage $message="tm-add-field" $param="email"/>
<$action-sendmessage $message="tm-add-field" $param="reference"/>

\end

<$list filter="[is[current]tag[contact]]">

<$button actions=<>>
Click to add contact fields

So this system works, but can this be made better? Can I somehow do away
with the button and trigger the "tm-add-field" message automatically as
soon as the tiddler is tagged contact? or even better create a new contact
tiddler with pre defined fields right from the tiddler link in the other
tiddler mentioning the person's name?

Re: [tw] How to load a JS library module which requires another plugin library module with non-relative title?

2018-01-24 Thread TheDiveO
Ah, I see. So I probably just need to set up a context object and give it a
require() that fixes the one specific absolute module name and thain chains
to the $tw.modules.execute(). And then I run the video.js plugin sources
through $tw.utils.evalSandboxed(). If that's more or less all then a
generalization would be overkill, as there's really not much to generalize
then.

Thank you very much for pointing me to the interesting places and
clarifying things, so I can now try some code. Before, I wasn't sure that I
could change require() functionality at all, or if so, how.

Best regards,
TheDiveO

I think you meant "Active" (the other possibilities in "Apps" are called in
my phone "Downloaded", "On SD-Card", "All" and "Deactivated").

In "Active" I got:
System: 651 MB RAM
Apps: 495 MB RAM
Free: 591 MB RAM

Edited from the net:

 1.
*Pull down your control screen *
 2. *Tap on “Settings”*
 3. *Go to Applications*
 4. *Tap on “Running Application”*
 5. *At the bottom (or sometimes top) it will show amount used and amount
remaining. Add together for approx total*

Another procedure (may not work on newer machines):

1. Hold down Home button until task list appeared

2. In lower right hand corner there is a "pie-shaped" icon

3. Click on icon to see resource use

4. Click on "Ram" to see ram usage including total Ram available

And finally ...

Check your sales receipt ;-)

I looked it up.Yours should have 2.2 G RAM (40% more than mine and more
than my netbook).

Most of the logic is already encapsulated in $tw.utils.evalSandboxed(). Let’s
see whether the technique works for you before we try to generalise it further.

The core Jasmine plugin has the same problem and solves it with a fairly hefty
hack: it executes the plugin modules with a special context that includes a
custom override of the require() function:

https://github.com/Jermolene/TiddlyWiki5/blob/master/plugins/tiddlywiki/jasmine/jasmine-plugin.js

Perhaps you can do something similar?

We could also consider pulling the guts of the technique into a generic
$tw.utils function.

Best wishes

Jeremy.

[tw] How to load a JS library module which requires another plugin library module with non-relative title?

2018-01-24 Thread TheDiveO
My goal is to support so-called Video.js player plugins in my TwTube
plugin. Placing the video.js player itself into a TiddlyWiki library module
such as $:/plugin/TheDiveO/twtube/video.js works as expected.

Now, video.js plugins, say foo.js, attach themselves to the video.js player
by means of getting the referece to it via require("video.js"). And that is
causing me problems: because the required module name is not relative, this
would reference a (user) tiddler video.js. However, it should be the plugin
tiddler instead, somewhere inside $:/plugins/...

Of course, I can edit the plugin source to fix the require()...

But: is there another way ot hack to get the require working as needed? One
bad idea that occured to me is simply adding an alias to
$tw.modules.titles... Any better ideas?

Best regards,

 - how fast does it open listed tiddlers from sidebar
 - tiping in search field: how good is the tiping & how fast are search

 - and making a new tiddler: how good is the tiping in there

Everything worked fine :-)

To clarify, *what I really like about it*, is you integrate into the
immediate presentation the means to alter the presentation without leaving
the presentation. That is a long sentence, but its accurate. And I think
largely novel in TW. So its not just about grids, which we had two recent
good variants on already, its *interactive flex*. In other words the
FUNCTIONS ARE VISUALLY activated. The toggle approach is spot-on.

Its exciting. It makes me want to make stuff.

And I can see a new user being able to cope with making stuff without
having to learn masses first.

Something like that.

FWIW, in implementation of this I'd likely use Danielo's "Double Tap/Click
to Edit."

[tw] Re: [TiddlyTouch] 0.1.0 beta Release

2018-01-24 Thread @TiddlyTweeter
Caro BTC,

There is no concrete example of (2) in TT, but it would be interesting if
there were. My point was that there are cases where more than six toggle
states work. Ones where the user can cycle though many options--ONCE in a
while--when they need persistent change. Example usage for different CSS
styling sets is one.

On (3) I think users will find its confusing. FWIW I was one of the
pushers that led to these multiple "save" methods. FWIW I was only really
interested in adding SAVE & CLOSE (i.e. "save & remove from stream" on
saving rather than the default "finish edit, leave in stream"). Thomas then
came up with a bunch of variants. I always found TW stable so that save and
close was a plenty already to add. I can't see the attraction of the other
variants. As far as Toggle states on that go I don't (a) see the point (b)
think it does not works visually--because the different steps do different
things.

The mess of my stray draft footnote was a sitting duck. No comment. :-)

Allora
Buona notte, J.

P.S. That footnote undid me.

Re: [tw] Re: wikify field value when displaying using view widget

2018-01-24 Thread Jeremy Ruston
Hi PassingBy

> That works! Thank you Mark. But just for understanding, why does the view
> widget with "plainwikified" format not work?

The common use cases for the view widget are fairly specialised: displaying
fields in plain text, and formatting dates. The various encoding and wikified
formats are primarily for use in TiddlyWiki’s internal templates.

The “plainwikified” format actually wikifies the argument and then extracts the
plain text of the result. So, plainwikified “jeremy” is “jeremy” but
plainwikified “jeremy” is still just “jeremy”. That’s almost certainly
not what you wanted.

If you want to wikify a field then you should use transclusion, either with the
double curly braces shortcut format or with the <$transclude> widget.

If you want to display a field as plain text then you can use the view widget
or the text widget. The following are equivalent:

<$text text=/>

<$view field="myfield"/>

Best wishes

Jeremy.

Try

<$list filter="[tag!nsort]">
<$set name="slidenumber" tiddler=<> field="slidetag">

The trick is a new feature of the set widget (since 5.1.14) that allows a

[tw] Getting a field value from a transcluded field name

Hi folks,

I've written a macro that identifies and presents tiddlers as slides in a
slideshow with this:

<>

My macro sets variable slidetag as follows:
<$set name=slidetag value="""$slidetag$""">

Tiddlers to be included in the slideshow are tagged with the name of the
show (example: "welcome-to-class") and have a field of the same name
(example: welcome-to-class) with value = 1 (or 2, etc.)

I want to dynamically set the bgcolor of the tiddlers based on slidenumber.

How do I reference a field that is defined through transclusion? In the
code below, I'm trying to get the value of the field <> into a
variable <>

<$list filter="[tag!nsort]" >
<$set name="slidenumber" filter="[all[current]field]">
...
doesn't work.

Suggestions?

Thanks, //steve.

[tw] Re: [TiddlyTouch] 0.1.0 beta Release

2018-01-24 Thread @TiddlyTweeter
Ciao BuringTreeC

I'm giving opinions ... points of contrast. Please reject me as needed.

The general TOGGLE approach in TiddlyTouch is BRILLIANT. Much of which in
another approach you'd need to do leaving the interface and go config
Tiddler to do.

IMO, configuring an interface WITHIN the basic interface you are
thumbs-up. It easy for users to learn staying in the level presented and
never having to see some weirdly different config console.

That said, there are issues with Toggles. IMO they work best when they do
something at ONE level ... like change width.

I am NOT convinced a toggle should be used for the various edit states. The
reason is that results are NOT at the same level. In one option the thing
will dissapear (save & close), in another you won't really know what its
done (save and continue) and another (save but keep in stream) is bland.

To try make my point clearer ... for instance, if TiddlyTouch had 15+
different visual CSS layouts I think it WOULD work to toggle through them
one by one. Why? Because you only gonna DO IT ONCE on setup. Its not
everyday and zillions of morphs would be fine.

The other settings that are USED DAILY I think you need a limit. I was very
happy to see you added width setting toggle to each tiddler. I think you
are right to set the max at 6 for that.

This is a long way round of saying ...

1 - keep the toggle states of DAILY use low (6 or less)

2 - one off changes like global CSS you do in a blue moon can be large (15
or more)

3 - Toggles that don't just change appearance but change function (like
variations on saving), IMO should be avoided because the visual feedback is
confusing.

My two cents
Josiah

Regarding NUMBERS of toggle states ... It differs between purposes. For
instance, if yu hcce 1

[tw] wikify field value when displaying using view widget

2018-01-24 Thread passingby
Friends,

I have a template for displaying tiddler's fields in its view mode. The
field is named 'people'. and its value contains names of people like lets
say john. The template displays the value of the field using this:

<$view field="people" format="plainwikified" mode="block"/>

What I want is to display the field value as a tiddler link, so that I can
click on it to go to the tiddler with that person's name. When entering the
field value I enter the value in double square brackets like this:
john. I expect that now when the field value is displayed it should be
displayed as a link but it does not.

When I the above mentioned format the display is :

john (with square brackets stripped away and no tiddler link)

When I choose
<$view field="people" format="htmlwikified" mode="block"/>

it shows up as :

Taminder
Singh

With
<$view field="people" format="htmlencodedplainwikified" mode="block"/>

is displayes as:

john (again, square brackets stripped but no tiddler link)

So whats the way to display a text as wikified as tiddler link? I expected
plainwikified to work.

Yea. ... Implementing this feature and better link styling was needed, to
have a proper plugin. The backside is, that it, at least, trippled the
ammount of code needed. Which also increases complexity. ...

It's great, that it feels natural, how the code works atm ;)

- Create a link to the same tiddler, that contains the code. .. Which
feels strange, if you click the link and not much happens
- Create a link to a "?" tiddler ... Which opens a tiddler titled: ? and
activates a scroll animation.

I choose the second possibility, since I thought, it would be more obvious
for the user, that something - "the alias" is missing.

The link has 2 existing classes assigned, which can be styled: tc-tiddlylink
tc-tiddlylink-missing or tc-tiddlylink tc-tiddlylink-resolves

... but you are right. It may collide with the default styles. .. *Need to
think about it*.

I could have added a ? tiddler, with the following code:

<>

or

I decided, to not include the ? tiddler, which *I should rethink now. *...

? ... Is not a prettylink anymore. |? is now the indicator
for an alias, and it is "eaten" by the parser.

Searching for "missing aliases" will be performance mess. Since you allways
have to touch every tiddler, since any one can have the alias field. This
function can't be cached, while "[is[alias]]" can, which is performant.

We may be able to make the "missing alias" link more visible, so they can
be fixed immediately.

Those 2 functions can't be compared anymore. It's not the same thing. So
it's a feature request ;)

I know. Will have a look.

have fun!
