[Tinyos-help] transmision power and broadcast

2007-03-19 Thread fatima cabot

Hi. I would like to know if there is a way of setting the power of
transmision for nodes, based on distance, or what would it be the formula to
calculate the equivalent for a number of db, and which variable is the one
for this (noise, path_loss_exponent...) (I'm working on TOSSIM, T2)

Different topic: I have to inject packets in the network from Python, and I
want nodes to transmit in broadcast mode. Is there a certain value to
specify this with 'setDestination', or maybe broadcast is the default?

[Tinyos-help] iMote2 + TinyOS 2

2007-03-19 Thread Federico Spadini
Hi,

I've been pounding away at tinyOS2 on the iMote2 platform and have
experienced a few bugs. Whenever I try to read multiple i2c sensors, there
is some sort of bus conflict (or other problem I'm just not seeing).

Sometimes it will read all of the sensor data, other times it will return
all zeros (for instance, if I try to read the i2c ADC and Light Sensor, I
get all zeros) however, other times it will actually read all of the sensor
data. Other times, if I change the order which I call a .start on the sensor
drivers it will read the data (so for instance, first I start the adc then I
start the light I'll get data, but if I do it vice versa it won't work.
however, the next day that I try the same program it doesn't work).

So basically the problem is a great deal of inconsistency, my question is if
anyone has any culture on the mote2s and tinyos2 that might be able to point
me in the right direction?

Thank you,

Federico Spadini

[Tinyos-help] Tmote sky-boomerang-duplication-not sending

2007-03-19 Thread siva prasad

Hi all

I am using Tmote sky modules and moteiv's boomerang package..!!

I have written an application which will sense 6 ADC signals @1ms...and get
a cumulative sum of each ADC value(which is required for my appli) over 1000
samples...means i am sending 1packet/sec...and this application has a
payload of 18 bytes..i am sending the data using MULTIHOP technique..i am
facing lot of difficultieswhich are...

I have loaded the application into 2modules..the base station is sending the
data for every 3sec continuously..but it should send the data for every
1sec..

another mote with moteID = 1...is sending the data only for 10 seconds..and
then it is sending some duplicate packets..and then it is not sending any
data...why is this abnormal behaviuor..

Suppose if i have connected the moteID=1 to the USB port, it is signalling
tht it is sending the data...I have observed this thing using the LEDS..i am
toggling red LED when it sends the data...then its seems to be ok..now if i
hav connected the mote with ID=0 to the USB port and ID=1 is given power
...then again duplication comes ..and then after it is stopping the
data...

really tired to solve this problem..
please help me in this regard..!!!

[Tinyos-help] Wireless two channels sensor

2007-03-19 Thread Nicolas de Vicq
Hello,

I'm working on a wireless sensor. My sensor has two channels connected to
the 12 bits ADCs A0 and A1 of the MSP430. I have to write a driver for read
the data on the two channels at 1Khz and to write it in a data frame send to
the radio buffer.

My idea is to organize the data like this :

1 byte for the Tx address

1 byte for the Rx address

1 byte for a mod256 frame counter

Data_byte 1 : first sample first channel : 8 LSB

Data_byte 2 :

Bits 7 6 5 4 : first sample first channel : 4 MSB

Bits 3 2 1 0 : first sample second channel : 4 MSB

Data_byte 3 : first sample second channel : 8 LSB

. and eventually the same formatting for other samples in the same packet.

This data packet will be send to the radio buffer for ShockBurst sending.

Somebody could explain me how to configure that data packet in my TinyOS
system ? My platform is already well defined.

And if somebody has some experience on writing this kind of driver in
TinyOS. that interest me a lot !

Thanks in advance !

Greetings,

Nicolas

[Tinyos-help] Errors in compiling Blinkmicaz under Boomerang

Hi all,

The error message asks to install avr-gcc. I did it, but now it complains about

[Tinyos-help] detect network connectivity while running an aplication

2007-03-19 Thread virginia estellers

Hi everybody,

I'd like to know wich motes every one can see in the radio-channel
while running an aplication that senses light an send the measures
through the radio. Is there anything already implemented on the
packages? Is that what Surge does? How?
If not, I guess I should make every mote send periodically whose
packets it's receiving and built myself the connections-tree, but that
would charge the communications...does someone see a better option?
Any comments would be sincerely appreciated

[Tinyos-help] SimpleCmd Tossim 1.x??????

2007-03-19 Thread preeti k

Hello,
I am trying to run the application given in lesson 7 of tinyos1.x. I have it
installed on cygwin and i am using the simulator Tossim.
My understanding of the application is that PC (Serialforwarder) injects
packets into the network through the serial port (TOSBase/TransparentBase)
which then communicates to the simulated motes (SimpleCmd) over the radio
and turns the yellow led on/off.

According to the insructions in lesson 7 i tried the following.
1. i run SimpleCmd application in one cygwin window and say
$./build/pc/main.exe 1 i.e simulate only one mote
2. i run TOSBase in another window and again simulate only one mote
i.e$./build/pc/main.exe 1
3. i run the SerialForwarder in another cygwin window as follows $ java
net.tinyos.sf.SerialForwarder -comm tossim-serial
4. Finally i inject packets into the network running another cygwin window
$ java net.tinyos.tools.BcastInject  led_on

Now i see the injected packets being written on the Seialforwarder GUI, but
am not able to trace the path of the packets between TOSBase and SimpleCmd.
Either of these applications (SimpleCmd/TOSBase) give me the following error
(sometimes it is TOSBase and sometimes SimpleCmd)
--
$ ./build/pc/main.exe 1
0: ERROR: Unable to create EEPROM backing store file.
0: ERROR: Unable to create anonymous EEPROM region.
---
My query is am i running the sample application correctly or is there
something i have missed out?
I tried using TransparentBase (instead of TOSBase) but i get the same error.
How do i trace back this error? Is it got anything to do with my local
machine memory?
I saw the same error being discussed on this tinyos-help, but could not get
how to trace this error .

Thanks in advance,
-Preeti

Ok. For this reason I installed avr-gcc later on, before obtaining those
errors. So should I use in one side mote-iv and on the other the standard
tinyos? (I have to run micaz and tmote nodes)
Strange, however, because mote-iv gives you all the folders also for running
apps for other platforms. I mean, the tinyos-1.x/apps folder is the same of a
standard tinyos system. Also platforms, libraries, sensorboards, avr, usr, src,

The values in the xbow makefile are included in comments, and tell you what
the equivalent in DB and transmitter power settings are. You use an
interface to the radio wired to the code loaded onto your mote to set the
power. It is in the makefile along with instructions on how to set default
values for compilation, but the information is valid for other uses in
TinyOS as well, regardless of version.

Your not going to achieve variable transmission power without using NesC code.
There have been several recent discussions on this, please check the archives.

Your destination is TOS_BCAST_ADDR or 0x. TinyOS addressing is
determined by the receiver, not the sending application. If you fill in the
broadcast address everyone will listen to the message. This is all
documented in the TEP's.

Your going to say: pkt.setDestinaton(0x) or
pkt.setDestination(TOS_BCAST_ADDR) if the constant is set. If it isn't,
why don't you make the variable yourself and set it?

[Tinyos-help] TinyOS

2007-03-19 Thread Gaston Tamboura

Hello,

I am using a MDA 100 board. I added a sensor to the board. How i can modify
the sense program to read data from a motion sensor.
In the program should I specify the ADC I am using? How does Sense know it
is reading the light sensor?

[Tinyos-help] How to get tmote sky working.

2007-03-19 Thread Conard, Andrew
Hi,

We are currently running on the mica2 platform and would like to upgrade to
tmote sky. There doesn't seem to be any good documentation (tmote's site
contains dead links to zip files) for how to upgrade to this platform. We are
running Windows XP by the way. What software tools do we need to install and
where can we get them? What are the steps that need to be taken, etc.?

Thanks,

Hi,
I am a newbie to the tinyos-2.0. I am trying to read the signal data from
telosb expansion connector which is ADC0. Can anyone show me how can i do so
and any example? It is i have to wire it to some file in adc12? I can't
understand the readme file there.

[Tinyos-help] Configuration file for TOSSIM

2007-03-19 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Currently tossim only compiles for micaz - but the network configuration
file example (and provided the 15x15 grid text files) are for mica2.

What are the implications for running a micaz simulation against a mica2
 radio configuration file?

[Tinyos-help] Sampling multiple channels at different samplerates

2007-03-19 Thread Oussama Chougna
Hi,

I'm using a Tmote Sky which has a TI-MSP430.

And I hope someone could help me with these two questions.

What is the best solution to sampling multiple channels (4 channels) each on
different sample rates?

The MSP430ADCMultiple interface has a bind() command to do some settings,
but in the settings structure you set only one channel's setting. So why
calling it a Multiple interface if it samples only one channel?

Thank you in advance

RE: [Tinyos-help] iMote2 + TinyOS 2

2007-03-19 Thread Phil Buonadonna
Federico,

Where/which version of the sensorboard are you using? Are you also using the
battery boards? Be aware that the sensorboard may have several bugs,
including an i2c addressing conflict w/ a unit on the battery board. The
published code assumes these bugs have been fixed.

Is it possible to send me a hi res picture of BOTH sides of your
sensorboard? I think that's the easiest way to begin addressing your
problems.

  Hi,

I've been pounding away at tinyOS2 on the iMote2 platform and have
experienced a few bugs. Whenever I try to read multiple i2c
sensors, there is some sort of bus conflict (or other problem I'm
  just not seeing).

Sometimes it will read all of the sensor data, other times it will
return all zeros (for instance, if I try to read the i2c ADC and
Light Sensor, I get all zeros) however, other times it will
actually read all of the sensor data. Other times, if I change the
order which I call a .start on the sensor drivers it will read the
data (so for instance, first I start the adc then I start
 the light
I'll get data, but if I do it vice versa it won't work. however,
the next day that I try the same program it doesn't work).

So basically the problem is a great deal of inconsistency, my
question is if anyone has any culture on the mote2s and tinyos2
that might be able to point me in the right direction?

  Thank you,

Re: [Tinyos-help] Wireless two channels sensor

2007-03-19 Thread Michael Schippling

Look into how mig is used in demo apps like Oscilloscope and
SimpleCmdMsg to convert a .h struct definition into Java classes
that can be used on the host side. There seem to be a lot of
bit manipulation features in the mig generated code which may
help with your un-packing. On the TOS side, pretty much anything
that fits into the TOS_Msg.data[] area is acceptable. O'Scope
also uses dual buffers to accumulate and send multiple readings,
so it might be the model for your program.

for read the data on the two channels at 1Khz and to write it in a data
frame send to the radio buffer…

My idea is to organize the data like this :

1 byte for the Tx address

1 byte for the Rx address

1 byte for a mod256 frame counter

Data_byte 1 : first sample first channel : 8 LSB

Data_byte 2 :

Bits 7 6 5 4 : first sample first channel : 4 MSB

Bits 3 2 1 0 : first sample second channel : 4 MSB

Data_byte 3 : first sample second channel : 8 LSB

… and eventually the same formatting for other samples in the same packet…

This data packet will be send to the radio buffer for ShockBurst sending.

Somebody could explain me how to configure that data packet in my TinyOS
system ? My platform is already well defined…

And if somebody has some experience on writing this kind of driver in
TinyOS… that interest me a lot !

Thanks in advance !

Greetings,

Nicolas

RE: [Tinyos-help] iMote2 + TinyOS 2

2007-03-19 Thread Federico Spadini
Hi Phil,
I have to apologize for the lag, I'm currently studying in Italy so I have a
bit of a time change problem! I will snap some photos tomm. morning and mail
them to you straight away, however if this helps I remember the date is
05-17-06 which is the board which has the following problems: lack of
interrupt pull up on the light sensor which also disables the adc interrupt
because they're anded together according to the data sheet. Also the tmp175 is
missing its interrupt pull up as well...

There are a few things I've had to do along my path that I never mailed the
list about because I was too green regarding the motes to feel comfortable
(regarding the i2c read command and a few other driver issues)! However I've
spent a bit of time with them now and feel a bit more knowledgeable.

Any advice would be more than welcome, your time is greatly appreciated!

--Federico Spadini

PS: Also, one question to make sure we're in sync, which xscale-gcc are you
using as well as nesc?

[Tinyos-help] How to receive messages over the UART?

2007-03-19 Thread Steven West

Hi,

I haveconnected a mote to a digital camera with a serial interface. I am able to transmit to the camera using the UART but I am having difficulty when trying to receive the acknowledgements it sends back. Ideally when a byte is received I need an interrupt to be flagged to enable me to read and store that byte of data. I believe this should be possible using the asynchronouseventUSARTDATA.rxDone found in the HPLSUARTFeedback interface of the HPLUSART0M module. Although I have wrote code that should work the rxDone event is never signalled even when I am sending data to the receive pin on the UART. I have ensured that the baud rate is set correctly and that the receive pin on the UART is enabled. The code compiles without any problems so I don't know where I am going wrong?

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Cheers,

Steven

Hello

I'm doing my first steps in TinyOS and have sucessefuly write code to
comunicate with an rs232 device.
Did you used the technique presented at the MoteIV support to have access to
the UART because it is
also used by the radio. Besides that I also used USARTDATA.rxDone and it
worked, did you enabled the UartControl.enableRxIntr()?
