Re: [TMIC] Renal problems
Jude, I am so sorry you are treated like that. I am short somehow on my patches this month and I think it is because my husband I were changing them on the 3rd day, instead of the 4th day. I don't know if my doc. will renew or not. They are so picky about you being on the exact time. Fortunately, I have never been treated like my pain was not that bad undermedicated, except at Baylor Rehab. The dr. believed I had bad burning pain in my feet 24/7 but she wouldn't give me a strong med. to get it under control. I had to wait for a week at least for the build up of neurontin and lyrica to get into my system the patches. That was a big problem there. No one in severe pain was treated w/ proper meds. to control their pain. They were so stingy w/ giving you any pain meds. Like my original dr. there when my morphine pump went empty, he said I've called all over Dallas no one can fill your pump, you'll have to stay here and hopefully not go into withdrawal (I had had it for 10 plus years) hope the patches help (75mg only) or go home. He further stated he had phoned 2 drs. on it. Yeah, that's all the pain docs. in the Dallas area. I told them after that I wanted another main dr. and they approved the change. The next one treated me the same when my pain was so severe w/ the burning. I would tell them I needed something - I was out of my head even at night in excruiating pain and they'd say, you'll have to wait 4 hrs. before you can have a Norco. A NORCO I THOUGHT! THAT'S NOT GOING TO CUT THIS, BUT I HAD TO KEEP MY MOUTH SHUT! Besides there, I've really not ever had a problem w/ ER's. I'm blessed and I'm so sorry you are going thru this. I usually tell them how long I've been in the severe pain, nothing Ive taken is working and my blood pressure will be up and they even give me oxygen. The new ER doc at my hospital now lets them give drugs in your driveway. IV and all. Call your Attorney General or Medical Board and tell them you are not getting proper treatment for your pain when it becomes that severe. What state do you live in? Natalie M. [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: What do you tell them when the pain is that bad? They don't believe me when I get that way and tell me that there is nothing stronger than the patches that they can give me. Re: [TMIC] Renal problems
I too started out with trouble urinating back in May of 2006. I too had an exam and was put on two courses of antibiotics. No change. Went to a Urologist and was scheduled for a Cyto. Prior to the appointment I had lower back pain which went down my legs and then I could not urinate at all. I went to Temple Hospital in Philadelphia and after 6 weeks was diagnosed with TMI believe only by process of elimination. In the hospital I had two angiograms because the doctors thought that I must have an AVM. Both angiograms did not show an AVM. I am going to Johns Hopkins on Thursday for another angiogram. Dr. Greenburg wants his people to take a look. I am not sure what to pray for. To find an AVM or not. As far as an angiogrram being painful, not much. Just pressure. The hard part for me was lying still for 6 hours after the test. I hope they can find something or give me something to help me urinate on my own. Cathing is such a pain and inconvenient! Wish me luck. Everyone, Take care, Mark Marlton, NJ ** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Mark, thank God your going to Johns Hopkins this week. When I first got tm in 98. I went for 2 days not knowing I needed to urinate. I had lost feeling in my bladder. Finally at the ER they put a cath in me and I filled upalmost 2 foley bags. Good luck at JOHNS HOPKINS. Re: [TMIC] Renal problems
Jude, I have been sick of wearing a Depend every since I came home. They are often soaked ever before I cath and I cath every 4 hours. My husband took me to the urologist in Little Rock (1 hour away), but before that appt. I had an internist appt. in L.R. It had been right at 4 hours and I was wearing a Depend. They call my name and we wheel into the exam room and before the dr. even came in the room I was urinating on the tile floor. My husband grabbed paper towels and a large beaker to measure your urine in to cath just to get the rest of what came out. I was so upset. Thankfully I was at a dr. who understood. He is an excellent urologist and two people I know who are picky w/ drs. use him. I told him I could cath and as soon as I get up to get into the chair I am wet again. He said that is because of the TM. It hits both sides of the spine and it will only get worse for you Natalie. And he is not one to push surgeries. He said go home and you all give it some thought. I said, I've thought enough - I want it done. He has scheduled one more office appt. w/ me to go over the surgery in every detail and then the surgery will be scheduled. I hate staying wet. I hate getting out of our leather seats in our car and there is urine sitting on top of it. I hate the constant odor I hate my husband having to constantly wipe my a.. because it is covered w/ urine. I sleep on 2 cotton pads at night plus wearing a Depend and I cath during the night even. I don't want to go to a foley for several reasons, so this is my answer I believe. Even tho I don't want anymore surgeries or in the hospital, I want a better quality of life than this. (Sorry for the novel) Natalie M. Hey Natalie, I'm in Little Rock. I have a wonderful urologist too. It's Dr. Langford. Who is yours? I've seen Dr. Brizzolara as well. He's great too. Re: [TMIC] Renal problems
Priscilla, Are you still having those bouts of diarrhea? How long ago was it that your doctor said you have Crohn's disease? I had the same problem for about two years before I finally went to the doctor. After many tests, I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease. It is under control now, due to medication. Crohn's disease is nothing to take lightly. You probably should go get that checked again. As far as the constipation is concerned, my PCP told me that the higher the dose of certain medicines, such as Vicodin, the more chance you are to have constipation. I noticed that when I increased my dose of Vicodin, I had to end up taking Miralax. I take Vicodin three times a day to control my neuropathy. Re: [TMIC] Renal problems
Rick and others, Have you ever heard of a very small but powerful enema that works for those of us with paralysis or weaken anal spinchter muscles. I always use it, it is called eneemez and you can find them on the internet (ebay is the best cheapest). It has like a gaslike substance I think was told that stimulates the bowel to have a bm. It works wonders, but is a little expensive. I use it every night. It is like $65 to $70. for a 30-day supply. For all of you strugging w/ having a bm I would try this. As far as my renal failure, I have excellent output, but I am very incontinent and altho I cath every 4 hrs. I have to still wear a depend all the time now. And my injury was only in Dec. 06. But I've been cathing for 3 years prior to that. I am having a surgery soon in which I will have a plastice bag on me. After that no more Depends and no more leakage all the time getting me wet. No cathing after that; but that never has bothered me much. Natalie Mizenko [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Dear list, Over these past 9 years of incontinence I have began to put alot of concern in the fact that I see so many people die of Renal Failure. I recently lost a great Aunt with Renal Failure. I do what I have to to try and have a semi-normal bowel movement at least 3 times a week. It has gotten to the point that when I sit on the pot I use a Fleet Eneima with a doucolace additive and they seem to be sometimes effective, sometimes not. Its always a guessing game. I in hope to find an answer through this line to a serious problem. If the list will permit me I would like to start my day by putting this topic up for discussion. Re: [TMIC] Renal problems
Rick, et al, I was first afflicted with TM in august 2000. I'm a walking wounded, on no opioids. In 2002, I started having problems with urination. The urologist said my prostate felt Good. ( I guess that's one reason she was a urologist) I had a cystometrogram that was consistant with bladder spastic/ flaccid syndrome. This has remained un changed. In 2006, I started having irregular frequency of B.M.s, then occassional constipation, then in Oct 06, a run of 7 days of obstipation. CAT scan was normal, Colonoscopy was normal. I now use prunes regularly. Has anyone else notices increasing constipation since T.M.??? F
RE: [TMIC] Renal problems
Actually my daughter has experience the complete opposite. She seems to have bouts of diarrhea quite often. She is on a bowel program and it works most of the time, but she seems to get diarrhea more often than I think she should, unless it is hormonal, she is 13.. Tracey L. In response to Rick's topic, Renal Failure, I am not even sure what it is and what it involves. I mean I can tell by the name what organs are affected, what brings renal faiilure about and what can we do to be more health conscious? What I would like to know as well, is there anyone out there who has to do digital bowel stimulation and removal while lying on one's side in bed? That is the way that I have to do it and it is gross! Not to mention, tiring. Peace and Prayers, Jude Our present troubles are quite small and won't last very long. Re: [TMIC] Renal problems
Frank, I thought constipation was a 'common' with TM (?) I'm affected that way too. The first couple of yrs after TM (1999) was murder. It got a little better aftr I started walking again and added a lot of fruit and other roughage. I'm still not normal but I suffer less. I've come to stop expecting a BM every day as before. The most negative thing is the residual paraysis. The muscles used to 'expel' do not work. I've come to depend on a combo of diet and gravity. Diane in Canada P.S. I also have to cath. - Original Message - From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Rick, et al, Has anyone else notices increasing constipation since T.M.??? F
Re: [TMIC] Renal problems
Dear Franque et al, For four years I had diarrhea every time I ate a meal; the doctor said I had Crohn's disease, but I was in denial of having that and ignored him. Then I changed meds--from a high dosage of neurontin to lyrica and cymbalta. Now I have chronic constipation and I think the meds are to blame. I haven't been back to that doctor and don't plan to.
