Hi,
Check out ORBLIVE, you need to run it on your pc and load it as an app
on your Ipod. But it gives you the ability to play Video and Music and
even TV streamed from your home to wherever you are in the world via
the internet.

Best Wishes

Phil.

Please stop this crap. You again try to hijack this thread. You've
tried it also on the other thread. If people lookup your recent posts

much come to that very same conclusion.
You are one of the very few who shows up with an extreme destructive

Beside that now you even start spreading false messages around.

You're the one and only (though not to forget there are some followers

your way of thinking, respectively not fitting your agenda.

Why don't you just stay out of these kind of discussions instead of

On the contrary, I find that Phil's contributions are highly
constructive (call me a 'follower' if you like), and certainly help to
clear away a lot of the misleading information that appears on this
forum.

I have a Touch, and I am interested in your mods. I may well try them,

particularly looking forward to Phil's ADM results, and I believe this

If he takes load off the Logitech designers and marketing fair enough.

Hi,
A bit of confusion going on here. ORB software allows the Ipod Touch or
phone to access your home PC via the internet from any location world
wide.I dont know why you want or need your Touch for this? It's not
required.

Music resides on PC, both Touch and Iphone access can music via
internal Internet ie Home, but only the Iphone can access from oustide
ie external to the system, ie away from home. Therefore the Touch
doesnt even have to be on for you to access your music on the PC using
the Iphone but the PC does have to be on as that is where your music
files are located

I have streamed both music and video whilst i have been away from home
to my ipod touch and laptop using ORB.

hope this clears up the confusion

What?

I can't let this nonense go by without comment as I find it personally
hurtful:

1) I'm not trying to hijack this thread. I posted an observation based
on my reading of all the posts in the the thread so far.

2) extreme destructive attitude? - I don't think so. If you mean I
don't automatically agree with everything YOU say or do then yes! I
don't automatically agree with anyone. I like to investigate for
myself.

3) false messages? - I have no idea what you are talking about. I
haven't said anything about your mods and my personal
opinion/measurement of them... YET.

4) I don't have an agenda. I'm not selling anything. Nor am I trying
to establish my credentials. I've helped hundreds of people on this
forum. I've even hacked code around for them. I don't want or need any
validation...

5) I haven't said anything yet, so how can I be poisoning the
environment - by which I presume you mean disagreeing with you and
your mods?

6) You have started with the personal ad hominem attacks - completely
unprovoked. You are the one in danger of violating forum rules.

7) You don't get to say what does/doesn't get posted on these forums.

8) When I am ready, I'll post my results for others to consider/assess.
For sure I won't be callng them destructive if they don't agree with

[SlimDevices: Touch] Problem with 48kHz plus playback

2011-01-18 Thread AlanB

First of all, hi everyone! I'm new to this forum, but have been a user
of various Slimbox/Squeezebox systems for several years. I have a Mk 1,
a Mk3, a Duet, and have just purchased a Touch - so I'm pretty au fait
with most things Squeezebox! However, I have a problem which I hope
someone can shed some light on.

I bought the Touch to enable me to play hi-def (48kHz plus) tracks
natively without the server-side downsampling to 48kHz via Sox - but
this is unfortunately where I have my problem.

Standard 16/44.1 files play fine (as do 24/44.1). 24/48 and above play
fine via the S/PDIF output. However, I want to play these files through
my trusty old Technics Class AA amp via the Touch's DAC and phono
outputs.

They play OK, but when I skip to the next track or fast-forward through
a track, I get a couple of scratchy pops through the speakers - both
channels, but slightly more so on the left than the right. This doesn't
happen through my other amp on the S/PDIF output. The sound's just like
a noisy switch/pot.

As this is the reason for upgrading to the Touch, I'm keen to establish
whether I have a faulty unit or whether this might be a firmware issue.

Technical details:

Touch F/W vsn 7.5.1-r9218
Touch H/W vsn 5
Squeezebox Server vsn 7.5.2-r31362

What's also bugging me is that I'm sure I was also hearing the sounds
of a relay clicking inside the Touch unit simultaneously with these
pops, but I don't hear this now. Am I going ga-ga, or does the touch
have relays to switch the DAC to 48kHz plus? If it does, then a bad
contact on the relay would explain the audible pops.

Any help/suggestions welcome!

Regards,

Alan

The clicking/scratching is via the analogue outputs of the Touch?

There are no relays in the Touch. sample rate switching is electronic.
Do you get the same noise if you pause a track?

Phil,

Many thanks for your speedy reply.

Yes - it's only from the analogue outputs, the optical output is fine.

I don't get the noise on pause/play. On seek, I get the noise when I've
reached the required point and then release the FF button - I'll get the
noise again as it starts.

And why only on 48kHz plus tracks?

Very odd.

Again trying to describe the noise - it's like the sound of a stylus
touching down on a good old vinyl album!

2011-01-18 Thread elstensoftware

I've seen this phenomena before, but never quite tracked it down. When
I've seen it it has been related to having duplicate tracks,
potentially both with album art, but where both share the same track
name, artist name and album name.

Something to look out for anyway, but it might be a totally different
issue.

Very true. I'd like to reiterate that it takes practically no effort to
try Klaus's mods. I am not a technical person, and yet it took me just a
few minutes to download his mod, write down the IP address of my Touch,
ssh into it, unzip the mods, and run the scripts. All this is very
clearly explained on the Soundcheck's blog page.

So in a few minutes I was able to enjoy the phenomenal improvement to
the sound quality. Isn't that like a dream come true? All Touch owners
owe it to themselves to try this, and hear for themselves. No need to
measure anything, or torture yourself with stupid double-blind ABX

1.you open what is explicitly a support thread.
 2. a separate thread is opened for those who wish to discuss whether
the mods can/do actually improve the sound of the touch. Everyone keeps
 their opinions off thread 1.

I must say I'm baffled. I simply don't understand this. Here we have a
generous guy giving us a very nice, beautifully packaged, free gift,
the one that's incredibly easy to use and that just keeps giving, and
we find ourselves all tied up in a knot and being extremely
antagonistic. Why?

Folks, the mods that Soundcheck has given us are extremely good,
extremely easy to apply, and what's even better, extremely easy to
undo. It hurts nothing to try, and if you don't feel that it's doing it
for you, just undo it and move on with your life. No fuss, no muss.

Those of us who are appreciative about this gift will continue gushing
(why not? Klaus just saved us thousands of dollars in not having to
shop around for a high-end digital transport that would match the
clarity of a modded Touch; because of that gratitude, many of us will
donate to his PayPal account).

Those of us who are not particularly appreciative should just ignore
the entire affair. Please be civil and be polite:)

Off my soapbox.

I do not do ABX tests either.

ABX style blindtesting is very bad ;) like when it's used in large

Why build the LHC in cern when a simple tube amp apparently (if no
controlled/scientific testings is used) produces results that counters

It's the same volt amps and ohms in your Touch as anything else
electrical.

I do not normally demand proof but if someones claims something very
very very unreasonable or unlikely, I really want to know why it's

Or see the effect measured ? You can have improved signal quality that
you can not hear directly , but it shows if measured it might add up in

I'm very much for improving things for free.
If it work it changes the electrical signal out of the Touch and can

Given all info you can find in these treads or blogs, human bias and

That don't stop a more unlikely explanation to be true sometimes , but

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] soundcheck's Touch Toolbox 2.0

2011-01-18 Thread Sligolad

I have to jump in here and present a view from someone who only recently
joined this forum after reading with some excitment about the work of
soundcheck on a FREE mod which is a rare thing these days.
I certainly sensed the dismissive and holier than thou attitude of Phil
which is probably due to years of witnessing unfounded claims andh let
downs, having said that senior members here should not forget that many
of the members still have a fresh unbiased enthusiasm for anything new
that might lift our listening pleasure to a new level.
OK if it turns out to be a lemon then so be it but it appears to me
that someone here is putting a lot of effort in to try to wring out
more listening pleasure from the cheapest piece of kit in my rig which
i find a breath of fresh air after years of spending thousands of € on
small improvements.
Maybe Soundcheck was having a bad day to react so badly but i would
give him the benefit of the doubt here, and I would hope he will
continue to post his learnings and share his enthusiasm with those of
us who have been getting a certain pleasure from logging in here with
enthusiasm each evening to read the latest developments.
I sincerely hope there is no other agenda at play here based on some of
Soundchecks comments and that Phil has not driven away the one good
reason i decided to join this forum!
Finally i hope common sense prevails here and wiser counsel than me
intervenes to help get past this abrupt end to a thread i was
thoroughly enjoying.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] soundcheck's Touch Toolbox 2.0

2011-01-18 Thread Covenant

I was only mildly interested in these mods until I read the following
from John Swenson:
I have tried Soundcheck's script and it does work, it does improve the
sound. But its only part of a whole environment designed to get the best
out of the device.
Like many others I respect his opinion and it influenced me to install
the mods.
If it was proved tomorrow that it was all a fantasy I wouuldn't care. I
am enjoying my Touch more and thats all that matters.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] soundcheck's Touch Toolbox 2.0

2011-01-18 Thread jfo

Thought I'd chime in here about the Phil comments. I simply don't get
the comments about attitude, etc. I've read so many of his posts over
the years and can't recall ever seeing what a couple of you have
described as holier than thou. etc. Informative, concise, technical but
written in plain language, willing to help and give his years of
experience to the forum. He can be blunt, but is usually very patient
with those who know less about his areas of expertise. He hasn't
attacked Klaus's mods, but isn't willing to accept them at face value
either...so what? Neither am I. And no, I don't know him personally
I do respect the effort Klaus has put into the mod's and his
willingness to help others with installation, etc. But please don't be
offended by those of us who would like meaningful evidence. The thread
is entering the nasty territory of subjective vs objective...perhaps
this is inevitable given the nature of the mod's.

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Playlists

2011-01-18 Thread flattermann

 How ??

Well, you can *build* a new playlist in SqueezeCommander by using the
default actions (play/add/insert) on the music items
(artists/albums/tracks).

E.g. you start by PLAYing an album and then you add another album, some
tracks and so on.
(You can e.g. play/add/insert an album by press-hold on the album and
select the respective option.)

That builds the current playlist.
You can view the current playlist in SqueezeCommander by flinging
right-to-left on the NowPlayingScreen.
See http://www.squeezecommander.com/trac/wiki/NowPlayingView

When you like the current playlist, you can save it on the Touch:
NowPlaying Right Arrow on the Remote or tap on the icon in the
top-right corner (that brings you to the current playlist) Save
Playlist (the last item) Enter a name for the Playlist

Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] soundcheck's Touch Toolbox 2.0

2011-01-18 Thread Greg Erskine

Phil Leigh;603439 Wrote:
So, as you said, try it for yourself. But do not be afraid to say It
doesn't sound any better to me.

Can someone who is getting a HUGE improvement put a percentage value on
each of the mods. If possible an analog out vs digital out comparison as
well.

I would like a utility to load the Touch's processor/resources to such
an extent that the sound quality drops. This would help prove the
converse is true.

I was expecting a Touch with these mods to sound quite close to a
Transporter (analog out). Am I expecting to much?

regards
