I wouldn't have thought it would be reset with a firmware upgrade. Your other preferences were maintained, weren't they? Ok, had things working and displayed as I wanted but with the upgrade to 7.5.3 things were set back to default. I guess that's to be expected? New question: In TinySBS I tried the line DISC.TRACKNUM) TITLE - ARTIST, but doesn't work out. It shows as TRACKNUM) TITLE - ARTIST, even on albums with disc numbers (DISCNUMBER tag in Mp3tag). Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] SB Server not streaming to SB Touch
hi there slimquest, i was having the exact same problem as you are describing. i had a SB Classic v3 before which worked like a charm with my Synology DS-209+ (using the Syno-Pkg of SBS v7.5.1). two days ago i replaced my SB Classic with a SB Touch. the WLAN connection and internet radio was up and running within 2 minutes after unpacking and plugging in the device - but it just wouldn't see and connect to my NAS. also the SB Touch requested a firmware upgrade from 7.5.1 to 7.5.3. that's were the problems really started. because my SBS version on the NAS still was 7.5.1 and there's no newer version available as a Syno-Pkg. so i had to uninstall the SBS 7.5.1 and installed&configured SSODS v4.9.1 with SBS 7.5.3 to level the SB Touch version. but the SB touch still wouldn't see and connect to my NAS. after browsing around in the SB Touch menus i found the 'remote library' section and tried to add my NAS by putting in the IP. the NAS' name was instantly resolved and then i was asked the username/password thing, which i never saw before with the SB Classic. after a bit of trying&thinking, i finally used the credentials which i configured in SBS running on my NAS. the credentials/password protection of SBS are under: http://:9000 settings (-> new browser window opens) > advanced tab > security. i guess (but haven't tested yet), if i hadn't chosen a password protection on the SBS, the SB Touch would have found the library right away. just wondering if one could create additional custom accounts on the SBS. but then again, i'm just happy to have my music library back. :-)) hope this works for you too. -- glaesi glaesi's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43552 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84706 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

I am getting a bit intrigued by the Nordost Sort cones (http://www.nordost.com/Sort-Kone-P73.asp), especially after auditioning them at the local store. I've just recently tried a pair of Belkin Pure AV interconnects, which could easily be measured as introducing a substantial change into my audio chain (they are just so different in design philosophy and build than my old interconnects). And while many people have reported hearing amazing differences and improvements, I, for the life of me, cannot hear even the slightest difference. Swapping back and forth, and even trying some other interconnects I've borrowed from friends (some of which are even ten times more expensive than the original interconnects), the differences were completely lost on me. Everything basically continued sounding absolutely the same to me. So the difference in measuring does not always translate into perceived differences. Same thing happened to me many times over with different components. Even when it comes to various power amps, some bargain priced, others super expensive, I often times couldn't hear even the slightest difference in sound. However, every now and then, I introduce a change into my audio system and then I get blown away by the unbelievable improvements. Such as with this Soundcheck mods case. -- magiccarpetride magiccarpetride's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37863 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=84742 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

I wouldn't advise you to use Touch as an attenuator. It is much more important to ensure that the digital volume level on the Touch stays absolutely fixed at 100% (apply Soundcheck's mod, which you can find on another thread in this forum). I'm using Touch as a digital source to drive a pair of Magnepan speakers, and only if I disable the digital attenuation on the Touch do I get that much sought after high-end sound quality that is at the same time decidedly no 'hi fi' like. In other words, neutrality, truth in music presentation, production instead of re-production, and a complete absence of editorializing during the playback. But for that, you'll have to go with a highly refined DAC. The one inside the Touch is definitely not up to the task. In all seriousness, plan on doing all this because your Maggies deserve it. As you probably know already, Maggies don't lie, and they will mercilessly reveal sub-standard components in your chain. As it stands today, fully modded Touch (via Soundcheck's mods) is a formidable digital transport that can stand shoulder to shoulder with many high end digital transports. This incredible digital transport needs to be paired with a high quality DAC. -- magiccarpetride magiccarpetride's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=37863 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85096 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Maybe it was you: My 'deductive reasoning' was being applied only to the volume maximising mod. I can understand the argument that superfluous processor load in the touch could conceivably have an impact on some parts of the music reproduction process, but this mod in particular has no possibility of doing that. The amount of computation is the same, the result is the same, but rather than using the computed result the mod uses a hard coded value. Perhaps you, with your years of professional programming experience, would like to point me in the right direction in understanding how that mod can have an effect. Maybe it was me: I had assumed that you'd accepted that this particular mod could not possibly affect the sound waves hitting your eardrums, and we were simply arguing about your right to interpret those sound waves differently. magiccarpetride;605943 Wrote: > Like for example, if I listen to two different configurations and I > can't hear any differences between the two, while at the same time you > present me with measuring results that plainly and convincingly > demonstrate huge differences between these two configurations, I will > remain completely unimpressed. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] My Album Art went poof!
I'm having the same problem. Up until last week the album art worked flawlessly. I have a folder.jpg in every folder and it worked just fine. I'm using the Touch currently with an USB flash drive. I then bough a new CD and copied the ripped mp3s onto the Touch, this was when I first noticed missing artwork because the new album didn't show any (though folder.jpgs were present). After moving a couple of more albums from and to the flash disk and thus rescanning the stick a couple of times now all the artwork is missing! Even those albums that worked flawlessly before. Can anyone help me here? Usually if no covers are present it shows a kind of CD icon, doesn't it. In my case it only shows blank space, though. Both in the albums list as well as in the now playing screen. I using the TinySB server with an 8GB USB drive. Firmware version is 7.5.3 r9283. It has much more powerfull cpu than radio and a very good dac and digital out. The 24bit 96kHz capacity is also nice :) not many streaming device from anyone ? has this especially at this price ? So sound vise it's well worth the money . I think that's the more powerfull CPU is mostly for running it's local squeezboxserver if you attach a harddrive to it . That must contribute some. Radios price point is low considering that it's probably the same screen and a little more cpu than the controller and it is cheaper than the controller. But pricing is also tied to what kind of custommer you expect for a product. Radio is not the cheapest product in it's market niche so it can not be more expensive than it is. So it is radio that is cheap, it competes where there is many products and people expect them to be cheap. A Touch buyer is maybe not as price sensitive as Radio buyer. And manufacturing cost are very cheap today (made in china), probably not as significant for the end price as many believes it's peanuts basically. All other cost associated around developing marketing and selling and distribute the product is probably a lot more than bom (bill of manufacturing ) price from the factory when you order pallet loads off them. Setting a price is most down to guess how usefull the byer thinks it is for that price. If you have a product that customer find very usefull and good and worth having you can charge more , again not much to do with parts costs. The reasoning I started this poll was to judge response and tbh see if there is a market for a player without the expense of a touch screen, I have no idea what they cost but im guessing significant based on the cost difference between radio and touch and with the radio having a built in good quality speaker. I bought it thinking I would use the touchscreen all the time because it was cool but sitting on the sofa with my tab is much cooler! I also wanted to find out if I was on my own in this situation. I kind of regret putting the 'occasionally' option in. I do use it occasionally i guess myself but posted never as i only use it for configuration once in a blue moon which would be very easy to do with ir remote. If the people voting here are occasionally using it for config and they could do these tasks with IR then we have a heavy lean to people not using the touch screen. Now I dont for one minute expect logitech to start producing a non-touch touch (i'm sure you understand me...) becasue of the costs involved in r&d and confusion in the product set. Its also good to understand the use-cases for when people solely use the touch screen IE bathroom or car. I think its perfect for the bathroom (weather permitting) coupled with ceiling speakers and also for the kitchen although i do like the shortcut buttons on the radio allowing me to choose a favourite quickly and easily. I would certainly miss those shortcut buttons on the touch if i had it in my kitchen although i know there is a gestures section in the beta mode so maybe you could program your own gestures as shortcuts. ie just swype a number. and you will see from my sig that my bathroom is crying out for a touch, but just got no way to mount it nicely!! -- trouty00 My Squeezebox setup (inc photos) http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=604471&postcount=1104 trouty00's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30875 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85129 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

I have several Touch Squeezeboxes. For me it really depends which Touch I am talking about. One Touch is mounted in the wall as a Controller and source for the kitchen ceiling speakers. This Touch gets touched often. When the Touch is in the SUV, it is the only interface as well as at the Beach or Cabin. I often use a Touch as a Controller. The other Touch units just get used when I happen to be up and next to them as I have iPeng on both the better half's iPhone and mine. And as I said, I often use a Touch to control other Squeezeboxes in the house as they do make a great localized Controller also. The display is getting a bunch of face time on most of the units so the display might as well have the dual purpose as a touch input device, not just a display IMO. So what is the reasoning for the poll? Were you thinking from your use that the Touch just really only needs an LCD screen for a display without touch? As for IR remotes, I couldn't tell you the last time I used an actual Squeezebox remote. I used the Harmony 1000 about two weeks ago to start a player in that room. Mainly because it's way easier for Search, and most other things, IMO. I can't say I thoroughly like touch screens, but on the Touch it seems like the best way of interacting with it. The only thing I use the remote for is to turn it off if my hands are a bit dirty :) Actually, I wish there was an easier way to quickly turn it off from the touch UI. Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Searching for advice of usb use
If one isn't expecting to much and realizes that TinySC is not SBS running on a PC, then TinySC can be a means to listen to local tunes. I use TinySC in my SUV and at the cabin every weekend. I have used both large drives (2TB) and small drives 320 to 500 GB with 99 percent being FLAC so we are talking about 16,000 to 125K in total tracks without issue. Album Artwork can be an issue also. Make sure that the artwork is all under 600x600 and no huge file sizes. TinySC also seems to do better with -5 compression (besides one really doesn't gain anything by using -8 in the first place). BUT, there are some things to know and realize. TinySC is NOT SBS. It has limited resources and is of course slower then SBS running on a PC. If you know what you are doing and do it straight forward and wait for each command to be completed, TinySC is completely usable. If one is the type that changes their mind halfway through something and inputs command after command, one will have issues with the built-in server. The type, model, and brand of USB drive can be important also as some drives just don't work. I have had great success with the USB Powered Toshiba USB drives. Older external powered USB drives that don't have a bunch of features tend to work well. Drives that act like an Optical drive when plugged into a PC just don't work. Avoid drives that spin down or sleep after each access. One very important thing to do is not to fill the drive up completely with music. After the drive is formated, only use about 85 percent of the formated total for music for there needs to be free space on the drive for TinySC to use. Granted TinySC doesn't need all that space but the drive will perform better if its not filled to the brim with music. -- iPhone *iPhone* Media Room: Transporter, VTL TL-6.5 Signature Pre-Amp, Ayre MX-R Mono's, VeraStarr 6.4SE 6-channel Amp, Vandersteen Speakers: Quatro Wood Mains, VCC-5 Reference Center, four VSM-1 Signatures, Video: Runco RS 900 CineWide AutoScope 2.35:1, Vandersteen V2W Subwoofer Living Room: Duet, ADCOM GTP-870HD, Cinepro 3K6SE III Gold, Vandersteen Model 3A Signature, Two 2Wq subs, VCC-2, Two VSM-1 Kitchen: Squeezebox BOOM Bedroom: Squeezebox BOOM Bathroom: Squeezebox Radio Ford Thunderbird: Duet, Mac Mini Ford Expedition: SB Touch, USB drive iPhone's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=13622 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85051 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

I am still in the process of ripping and converting to FLAC. I use a 1TB Toshiba Canvio. At the present I have 380 GB and 17500 files on the drive. I did a complete rescan yesterday as I added files. The complete rescan once I got it started took approx 1.5 hrs which is not a big deal because its something you only need to do when adding files or correcting tags. I think speed is fine. My listening position is next to my kit, so I use the touch screen exclusively. I find the Touch's screen is too small to be useful from most normal listening distances anyway(10ft-3m); so if I couldn't sit close to the Touch I'd probably use an iPod Touch/iPad as the interface. -- firedog Tranquil PC fanless WHS server running SqueezeServer; SB Touch slaved to Empirical Audio Pace Car; MF V DAC3, MF X-150 amp, Devore Gibbon Super 8 Speakers; Dual 506 + Ortofon 20 (occasional use); sometimes use PC with M-Audio 192 as digital source. My Touch is currently sitting beside my computer keyboard, connected to headphones, so I went for the last option. The flexibility of multiple controller interfaces (touch screen + IR remote + SB Controller + Android phone SqueezeCommander + SBS web interface + synchronize/choose player from another SB), is a large part of the reason why I like the Touch. -- Soulkeeper -that is not dead which can eternal lie. and with strange aeons even death may die.- touch + duet + boom + radio / wrt160n/dd-wrt / sbs 7.5.1 or higher/win7(32b)/avira free Soulkeeper's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35297 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85129 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] soundcheck's Touch Toolbox 2.0
I'm pretty active since years on Audio Asylum and DIY-Audio. Just a side note - the way I see certain things: Audio Asylum is used by some manufactures as a marketing platform -- same over here, different people though. (perhaps those manufacturers havn't even realized that ;) ) Just by being present over here and supporting people with "honest" professional advise, will do marketing for them. As long as this complies to the forum rules there's nothing wrong about it. If it is Logitech staff or those iApp developers/company owners to name two parties with commercial interests I recognize over here doesn't matter. I do think that this forum is a Logitech company driven forum, not a private one -- right!?!? At least Logitech can do and claim whatever they want over here. So, at least some of you guys don't be so naive to think you'd be on save ground over here. You're not. Back to Audio Asylum and the measurements 1. For years I've been facing similar discussions as well as CICS who developed CPLAY/CMP on an XP platform. Especially the manufacturers ( with estimated accumulated 200 years of audio experience) were heavily opposing what was evident to those who were running those special PC installations. Manufacturer refrain: "We measured it with 20k+ equipment. It's nothing there. Nonsense." (Even if they would have experienced the audible changes, you bet they wouldn't have told us) How in the world was I supposed to get around such an argument at that time!?!? Impossible. Nowadays pretty much all of them are running Amarra and Pure Music on their MACs. The funny thing, those apps are doing nothing else then that what my mods or Cics stuff were doing at that earlier time. Nowadays certain mods are applied the Touch. The best thing of all: Ayre even developed their own OSX SW player! Go to RMAF or CES. Count how many DAC manufacturers are using those apps. Ask them why they need it? iTunes is supposed to be bit-transparent! To wrap it up. If NON of those manufacturers gets the PC induced problems solved or measured it's not a competitive disadvantage to run those apps. As soon as the first DAC supplier gets the problem solved the competition will have a serious problem to explain why they have to use Amarra or similar. 2. Some words about SPDIF. There have been endless discussions about SPDIF and its quality potential, implementation, cable length asf. Try to look it up. It doesn't matter where you look -- e.g. Lavry or Empirical Audio or whoever -- non of them can give a consistent answer what to do with the SPDIF associated problems. Try to figure out a simple question about what cable length to use. Those vary from couple of inches to a couple of meters. Lavry and/or Nugent for sure have measured it and both of them are highly regarded audio specialists. Both of them come up with an opposite recommendation. I could go on and on with examples of people fail to measure and to nail down those SPDIF associated problems. It's obviously not that easy. Wrap Up: Measurements are very valuable. No question about it. Measurements do show directions. Doing it right must be considered a (very costly) art on its own. Measurements do fail to give an explanation for everything out there, that's a fact. I highly recommend to read this 'this' (http://www.cardas.com/content.php?area=insights&content_id=11&pagestring=Do+Measurements+Matter) article about what highly regarded audio manufacturers think about measurements and the necessity of listening tests as the final confirmation. [SlimDevices: Touch] Poll - Do you actually use the touch screen?
I was just wondering how many people actually use the touchscreen on there touch? I have a couple and to be honest never actually touch the screen as its always controlled from ipeng/squeezecommander/Web Gui/ IR remote. I was wondering If I am alone here or a number of us are paying for probably an expensive touch screen we dont use. I just think that the unit is pretty expensive compared to the radio which i think is a bargain device. -- trouty00 My Squeezebox setup (inc photos) http://forums.slimdevices.com/showpost.php?p=604471&postcount=1104 trouty00's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=30875 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=85129 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
