The SB Touch is a good match for audiophiles as well. Just use a good external DAC and it can compete with the high end systems at a significant lower cost. The user experience of the Squeezebox system is one of the best out there. But I would like many products to choose from. A lot of competition in this area will breed better products and maybe some features that I have not thought of yet. I believe I heard that some folks were getting better results with their SB Touch units, after they used a separate power supply, quality DAC, SOundchecks Mods. So I think that there is room for improvement over the transporter. -- Cut-Throat Cut-Throat's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43167 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91782 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch

Hi, well further to this exciting topic, I note that Amazon in the UK at http://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-Squeezebox-Touch-Network-player/dp/B002LARRDA/ref=pd_ys_qtk_wl_img?ie=UTF8&coliid=IIJJH01IXNP8F&colid=2SM1BUK7T1CG5&pf_rd_p=217325491&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_t=1501&pf_rd_i=home&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_r=0RAHWEMMW9Y7AAV7DHCK are offering a model 930-90. Sadly so far, it is only available for a wish-list inclusion and they claim to have in stock just one of the earlier model number. So, it appears that it will be for sale in the UK, if Amazon UK is to be believed. This seems to be contrary to what i was told recently, that this model number was exclusively for Canada (according to Logitech UK). All I can say right now is that there is some confusion and still a lack of hard information. I expect 930-90 to be available in the UK but when seems to be open. Why all this doom and gloom? I think the Squeezeboxes have a bright future. Logitech is still taking care of the software and the Touch is definitely a great product. As many people are beginning to transition from physical to digital media and services like Spotify growing, the market is just about to get interesting for Logitech. Yes they do not really promote them and and since they discontinued the Boom, there is no stereo device with speakers - but I hope they will bring out some new stuff soon. It would be crazy giving up now, the niche market has only just begun to grow. Logitech are there to make money, so why should they leave the cake to others? Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touchy about the future?
I've been a Squeezebox user for almost 10 years, dating back to the original SliMP3. I currently have a Touch, a SB3, a Radio and a Controller. While I really like them and think they are a great music source, if Logitech discontinued them tomorrow, I'd certainly give them a moment of silence out of respect, but then life would go on. First, most of the units in the field are going to keep working for a long time. Used ones will continue to be in circulation if you feel strongly about adding another unit or replacing one. (Look at all the old tube amps and even Victrolas still in circulation after 50 to 100 years!) Second, nothing Logitech does or doesn't do will affect my music collection. There are many other players available that will stream music from my hard drive. (It's far more important that I maintain backups than keep an extra Squeezebox around.) So, yes, they have a fine product and I'd like to see them keep making it, but it's not the end of the world if they do the corporate thing and move in a different direction. -- mlsstl mlsstl's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=9598 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91782 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
Re: [SlimDevices: Touch] Touchy about the future?
There's no way of actually knowing the answer. Logitech has never really done serious marketing o f SB players in actual stores in the us. So lack of this is not really a sign of anything. This said, I actually bought two spare touch units as back up just in case I need them (no longer made or replacement not as good as touch). My SB players and sbs or Lms can work for decades even if Logitech goes out of business tomorrow. -- garym Location 1: Vortexbox Appliance 6TB (1.10) > SbS 7.6.2 > Transporter, Touch, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio) Location 2: Win7(64) laptop > LMS 7.7.0 > Touch>Benchmark DAC I, Boom, Radio w/Battery (all ethernet except Radio and laptop) Retired: SB3, Duet Receiver Controlled at both locations with: iPhone (iPeng), iPad (iPengHD & SqueezePad), CONTROLLER, or SqueezePlay 7.7 on Win7(64) laptop Ripping (FLAC) - dbpoweramp, Additional Tagging - mp3tag garym's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17325 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=91782 ___ Touch mailing list Touch@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/touch
