There's now support in launchpad for displaying source package diffs
between what's in ubuntu oneiric and what's in debian sid.  Check it out:

people making derivatives of Ubuntu such as OEMs, but since Ubuntu

packagers to mark merges they're working on or leave notes for other
packagers, buttons to make it easier to sync one or more packages

This new page still offers substantially less functionality than 
MoM/grab-merge.  If you want to mark merges as in progress or leave merge 
related notes for other developers, MoM is the place to do that.

This is a great new feature, and certainly a step in the right 
direction.  I see this as really good news, so thanks for sharing it 
with us.


I'd like to make a few suggestions, to make this more useful to my workflow:

 * Ability to diff legacy source packages ubuntu/debian delta.
- There have been multiple occasions where I have have dget'd the 
sid source package from snapshot.debian.org and created a debdiff from a 
prior ubuntu merge to /really/ see what the delta is.  The current 
autogenerated diff per source package doesn't cut it for merges, as it 
includes the Debian changes.  I want to view just what the merge delta was.


* Being able to filter by subscribed packages for a given team or user.
   - The https://bugs.launchpad.net/~LPID/+packagebugs
   - This allows a given user or group to keep an idea of where the 
packages differ from sid.  Especially useful for a team or user to be 
able to monitor the core of packages that they need to deliver.


* Should probably be able to also see the package sets, and possibly 
filter by.


* Being able to easily see the debian/changelog entries for version  
ubuntu current version.

   - This allows to quickly see how important the changes are.

* The new page should probably indicate the sponsor of the Ubuntu upload 
(if present).


* I wonder if this feature set will be exposed by the API? :)

To date, i have been maintaining a cron'ed list[0] of packages where 
Debian is a higher version than Ubuntu for packages ~ubuntu-server is 
subscribed to, and the ubuntu-server package set.  I have found it most 
useful, I hope Launchpad will be able to superseed my list and make it 
more useful.

Agreed, I do this all the time myself.

If it's a goal of the Launchpad team to have this be suitable to replace MoM 
then rather than me file stacks of bugs it would probably be a more useful use 
of everyone's time for whoever in the Launchpad team is driving this to go 
look at MoM and see what's missing.

Just to get you started though, it apparently needs to be faster if one wants 
to load a single page with a lot of packages.  See OOPS-1993DY5 for details.

Hey again,

So I've been looking a bit to it, reading the LEP document you pointed
and thinking how we could use for the desktop team versions page we use
(it already lists package outdated compared to upstream and debian,
build failures, sponsoring request and our workflow is centered around
it), and I've a few comments, questions:

* is the current page only tracking Debian unstable? GNOME3 is in
experimental still in Debian and for desktop work we are interested to
track experimental and not unstable, is there any way to do that?

* is there a standard url we could build in a programmatic way so our
version page could have an icon or something pointing to the diff page
for the sources where are outdated compared to Debian?

Congratulations on getting the first OOPS!  The page normally loads in 2 
seconds or less so I suspect you were just unlucky to hit a busy period.

Let me clarify - this feature is NOT intended to replace MoM, at least not 
yet.  The primary focus is to help OEMs and Linaro.  We've released this beta 
as a means to get some useful feedback from people who know more than we do 
about building a distribution.  I also hope it's actually useful to someone.

We will add a syncing button next week as well, which will let anyone who can 
normally upload a package just sync it right in the UI with no upload needed.

Partial dh_python2 transitions

Hello!  I was just considering how a dh_python2 transition for the 
various ubuntuone python modules would work.  They all install into the 
ubuntuone module, so would need to be updated at the same time.


Is there a recommended way to avoid the problem of users partially 
upgrading (either from builds finishing separately or specifically 
apt-get installing only some of the packages) and having mixed tool usage?


What have others done in this situation?  Breaks would work; just 
uploading close together would work if we think risk is low...

Well, the Father's Day for us Scandinavians is the second Sunday of 
November, so traveling the weekend from US would basically mean missing 
it :)

Thank you very much for the heads-up.

 - xiphos - needs either porting to Webkit (probably a lot of work, but
 not sure yet) or switched to using is gtkhtml backend (easy, but gtkhtml
 sucks).
 - dehydra - already using Spidermonkey, but needs switching to use the
 proper lib. Probably just minor build-system changes.
 - mongodb - same as dehydra.

I can't speak for any of the other packages that you mentioned, but
MongoDB is still quite important to the Ubuntu Server Community, as
it's about to become a dependency of the CloudFoundry PaaS packages.

I know that you and Brian (on CC) have had a private conversation
about this, but just for the rest of -devel's and -motu's awareness,
Brian is in the process of migrating the mongodb package build to use
the replacement library.

Right, similarly for my xorg versions report.  I've shown both the gnome
versions report and the xorg report to the Launchpad devs.
Interestingly, they hadn't seen these reports previously.  They had seen
MoM though, but that's a bit different.

For now, sounds like we should stick with our existing versions reports,
as there aren't plans in the work to implement all the functionalities
we need.  However the 'sync me' button Julian mentioned that's coming
sounds very sexy.  I don't know at this point if we could easily
integrate it into our own versions reports, or if deeper development
work is required.

The underlying infrastructure is exposed via launchpadlib, so I'd
suggest looking there to start.  If it's not sufficiently accessible

The particular workflow Sebastien is referring to here is that
frequently, on a case-by-case basis, we want to sync from Debian's
experimental tree to pull in changes they're not yet ready to put into
unstable but that we know we want in Ubuntu.  (With Debian being more of
a rolling release, and Ubuntu more puctuated with freezes and more
tightly cadenced releases, this use case does crop up fairly regularly.)

I do notice this bit in the LEP, which suggests some thought has gone
into this (or a similar?) situation:

  * Allow a derived distribution to have more than one parent
+ Post-initialisation, add more parents so that they appear in the
  list of differences

Poor phrasing on my part.  Like I clarified later this isn't intended to
replace any of our own infrastructure, there's features we require that
aren't yet implemented.  Some are in the works already, others may be
worth proposing as follow on work.

I'm not not a launchpad developer, however I am attempting to help
improve the transparency between ubuntu and launchpad.  I want to help
raise feedback from ubuntu folks with the launchpad devs so our needs
get appropriate prioritization, and also figure folks on this list would
appreciate having some heads up on coming changes to Launchpad.
Sometimes the changes have implications to our own workflows, so I
figure the earlier we recognize the implications the easier we can
handle them.

Certainly the last thing I want to do is demotivate anyone or cause
dissention on ubuntu-devel@; if that's the case, the added transparency
probably isn't worth it.

two places for packagers to leave merge related notes.

fields, a parent_package_diff_status field (which I think seb128 was
asking about for showing diffs in the gnome versions page), and an
addComment() routine (presumably requires being logged into LP).

we could look at (done automatically with manual override to remove

Doing it in the UI is probably sufficient to reproduce existing
functionality, although you might have some clever ideas on how making
the link explicit could enable further functionality down the road.

That is indeed easier in Ubuntu/with PPAs, but in Debian it's more
complicated. Some GNOMEish packages are still in experimental, and
their upload to sid is blocked by something else. Testing migration
would also need to happen at the exact same time. Also, the full and
correct set of Breaks: would be quite an intangible mess; we'll add
some, but as all of the ~ 15 binaries would then break all of the
others, they aren't easy to get right.

A quick note: first of all, thanks to everyone for your help with
testing, this has been really useful feedback and will enable us to ship
the new language packs with confidence that they will not introduce
regressions.

As these language packs depend on the Firefox upload, after having
talked to Chris Coulson, the Firefox maintainer, he tells me that they
will need to be uploaded on the 21st of June, which is when the Firefox
5 release is planned. This is a tentative date from Mozilla, so it might
slip for a few days depending on what their final decision for a release
date is.

This also means that we'll have some extra time for testing the language
packs, so if you see anything unusual with them, do report it. Also,
it'd be good to have feedback for some of the most popular languages of
our user base, which are still missing from
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Translations/LanguagePackUpdatesQA: e.g.
Simplified Chinese, French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, etc.

So if anyone from these teams could test the language packs and provide
feedback, that'd be awesome.

Pulseaudio, Jack and Rosegarden

We have 300 netbooks working with 10.04 LTS, not 10.04 Studio.

We would like to use Rosegarden, but we have trouble how to configure
Pulseaudio, Jack and Rosegarden together.

We tried several ways. We arrived to run Jack but we can't heard anything
playing MIDI with Rosegarden.

Any idea?

There is a plug in calles fluidsynth-dssi that you can add to a 
RG-Project using the synth-admin-tool (looks like a knob in the toolbar 
above the editor). Fluidsynth-dssi allows to load a soundfont-file that 
you can download from several sites on the web.


You can also uses synths like whysynth-dssi or CLAF-organ/monosynth to 
play your notes.


A rightklick on a track allows you to set a loaded plug-in to a track.

The rest should go automagically for now ;-)

Realmente concordo com o Julio que, ao pesquisar pelo assunto do tópico, o
site da lista retornou o tópico correto, cronologicamente organizado, mesmo
com as duas redações do assunto diferentes. Olhem aí:

Porém, no meu e-mail (gmail) ficou errado, ficou como se fossem duas threads
diferentes, e por este motivo é recomendado que não se altere o assunto,
para não fragmentar um tópico com duas discussões distintas.

Concordo com o Júlio que os erros devem ser valorizados para aprendizagem.

Sobre a fragmentação, o gmail fragmentou, e o mecanismo de busca da lista
não
Ou seja, depende do cliente, então a regra é a do pior caso, só isso.
Em outros casos já ocorreu justamente o inverso, o gmail não fragmentou, mas
a busca da lista sim.

Agora, já observaram que a thread foi terminada a umas 8 mensagens atrás e
que acabou por se transformar em outra coisa?

Esse tópico vai longe :)

Sinceramente quando busco na web numa lista, não me importo se está ou não 
fragmentado,
até porque existem tópicos que ficam tão grandes que se for seguir a árvore 
dele quando chegar no final você até esquece o que estava procurando :)
Se não me engano logo quando comecei a paritipar de foruns e listas, acho 
até que foi eu quem criou esse lance de colocar Resolvido no assunto.
Comecei a fazer isso na lista Delphi que participo (não tinha visto isso 
antes) e lá como nunca reclamaram,

pelo contrário me seguiram, achei que pudesse ser assim nas outras.
Desculpa aí heim... rsrsr
Particularmente prefiro procurar por tópicos cujo o assunto esteja com 
Resolvido, assim vou direto ao que preciso, mas como essa lista prefere não

alterar o assunto, dependendo do cliente de email,
   este ganha um novo
ID ou não. De qualquer forma não se altera o assunto
   ou se reutiliza
mensagens porque em abos os casos fragmenta-se a
   discussão atual e ou
o histórico da lista. Só isto.

Galera eu gostaria de uma ajuda..alguem aqui ja tentou se aventurar em criação 
de themas...se alguem ja o fez ... poderia me dar uma dica ... do que preciso 
pra começar ..sei que tem varios themas para o ubuntu porem gostaria de fazer 
uma versão por mim mesmo...alguem indica alguma ferramenta...

Estou com a seguinte situação: 

Bloquear no
IPTABLES o site do 4shared.com (98.x.x.x) 

O IP do 4shared.com tem um
range diferente das suas subzonas... 

dc143.4shared.com (208.x.x.x)


dc342.4shared.com (102.x.x.x) 

dc128.4shared.com (87.x.x.x) 

Então
eu gostaria de bloquear assim... 

iptables -A INPUT -j DROP -p all -s
*.4shared.com, para bloquear todos os DNS que venham antes do dominio
().4shared.com 

Eu sei que é possível realizar o bloqueio via
squid, mas, estou usando apenas o iptables no momento.

Cara, fazer isso no iptables é loucura. Utilize o OpenDNS para fazer o
bloqueio através do domínio, mas ainda sim indicaria a implementação do
Squid no ambiente.

Seria muito mais fácil fazê-lo no squid. Bloquear pelo firewall não é uma
boa prática.

Boa tarde, Marcos.

Concordo com os amigos. Até porque, o IPTables não vai conseguir trabalhar
com um curinga no domínio pois ele precisa resolver o nome para bloquear na
hora do processamento da regra. E não vai conseguir se usar a sintaxe que
você indicou.
Acho que nestes casos não é possível escapar do Squid. Entendo que às vezes
a implementação de um proxy envolve muitas questões não só técnicas, mas
minha sugestão é: configura um proxy transparente (elimina o transtorno de
configuração nas estações) somente bloqueando o 4Shared. O que você acha?

 ubuntu so q na hora de voltar o painel superior e o inferior sumiu como eu
 coloco ele de volta no lugar ???

 Não coloca de volta. Ao instalar o gnome 3 você não consegue
retira-lo sem quebrar teu sistema.

A jornalista e filósofa Lia Diskin, no Festival Mundial da Paz, em
Floripa (2006), nos presenteou com um caso de uma tribo na África
chamada Ubuntu.
Ela  contou que um antropólogo estava estudando os usos e costumes da
tribo e, quando  terminou seu trabalho, teve que esperar pelo
transporte que o levaria até o aeroporto de volta pra casa. Sobrava
muito tempo, mas ele não queria catequizar os membros da tribo; então,
propôs uma brincadeira pras crianças, que achou ser inofensiva.

Comprou uma porção de doces e guloseimas na cidade, botou tudo num
cesto bem bonito com laço de fita e tudo e colocou debaixo de uma
árvore. Aí ele  chamou as crianças e combinou que quando ele dissesse
já!, elas deveriam sair correndo até o cesto, e a que chegasse
primeiro ganharia todos os doces que estavam lá dentro.

As crianças se posicionaram na linha demarcatória que ele desenhou no
chão e esperaram pelo sinal combinado. Quando ele disse Já!,
instantaneamente todas   as crianças se deram as mãos e saíram
correndo em direção à árvore com o cesto. Chegando lá, começaram a
distribuir os doces entre si e a comerem felizes.

O antropólogo foi ao encontro delas e perguntou porque elas tinham ido
todas juntas se uma só poderia ficar com tudo que havia no cesto e,
assim, ganhar muito mais doces.

Elas simplesmente responderam: Ubuntu, tio. Como uma de nós  poderia
ficar feliz se todas as outras estivessem tristes?

Ele ficou desconcertado! Meses e meses trabalhando nisso, estudando a
tribo, e ainda  não havia compreendido, de verdade,a essência daquele
povo. Ou jamais teria proposto uma competição, certo?

Ubuntu significa: Sou quem sou, porque somos todos nós!

  Não coloca de volta. Ao instalar o gnome 3 você não consegue
retira-lo sem quebrar teu sistema.



Já tentou entrar com o comando gnome-panel e então criar um novo painel???

 chão e esperaram pelo sinal combinado. Quando ele disse Já!,
 instantaneamente todas   as crianças se deram as mãos e saíram
 correndo em direção à árvore com o cesto. Chegando lá, começaram a
 distribuir os doces entre si e a comerem felizes.

 O antropólogo foi ao encontro delas e perguntou porque elas tinham ido
 todas juntas se uma só poderia ficar com tudo que havia no cesto e,
 assim, ganhar muito mais doces.

 Elas simplesmente responderam: Ubuntu, tio. Como uma de nós  poderia
 ficar feliz se todas as outras estivessem tristes?

 Ele ficou desconcertado! Meses e meses trabalhando nisso, estudando a
 tribo, e ainda  não havia compreendido, de verdade,a essência daquele
 povo. Ou jamais teria proposto uma competição, certo?

 Ubuntu significa: Sou quem sou, porque somos todos nós!

Лечим виндовую кодировку в zip архивах

Часто для себя делаю заметки в контакте, эту решил запостить здесь. Поле 
перехода на Ubuntu, года 2 назад (до этого сидел на Gentoo), меня время 
от времени раздражало, что в zip архивах с  виндовой кодировкой 
кракозябли. Время от времени на это натыкаешься и самым лёгким способом 
решить проблему (чтобы побыстрей) было wine + 7-zip. На генте это 
делается очень легко. Просто глобально включается флаг rcc. Лёгкого 
решения для Ubuntu я не нашёл (может о5 плохо искал). В общем решил 
перелопатить ебилды гентухи и вот результат.


Нет проблем с русскими именами файлов в:
unzip 6.0
p7zip 9.04
file-roller (по всей видимости при установленном p7zip, он использует 
его, если 7z не стоит, то unzip)



Если установлен пакет p7zip-full - удаляем

Устанавливаем все необходимое для сборки:
sudo apt-get build-dep unzip p7zip
sudo apt-get install git build-essential librcc0 librcc-dev

Создаём папку для сборки:
mkdir build-zip
cd build-zip

Получаем репозиторий unzip, заходим, собираем:
git clone git://github.com/emergy/rus-unzip-6.0.git
cd rus-unzip-6.0/
make -f unix/Makefile LF2=-ldl -lrcc LOCAL_UNZIP= linux_noasm

Устанавливаем unzip:
sudo checkinstall -D

cd ..

Получаем репозиторий 7-zip, заходим, собираем:
git clone git://github.com/emergy/p7zip-9.04.git
cd p7zip-9.04
make all3

Устанавливаем 7-zip:
sudo checkinstall -D
sudo ln -s /usr/local/bin/7z /usr/bin/
sudo ln -s /usr/local/bin/7za /usr/bin/
sudo ln -s /usr/local/bin/7zr /usr/bin/

Да нет проблем, кому так нра. - пользуйтесь. Мне больше нравится 
использовать нативный софт. Да и взялся я за это тело, только потому что 
надо было скриптом распаковывать кучу zip архивов в виндовой кодировкой. 
Так бы и дальше wine + 7-zip использовал

Зачем было переходить с генту чтоб решать проблемы компиляцией и
холдом? В убунту компиляцию надо заменять на костыли!

Костыль номер один:
$ sudo aptitude install fuse-zip
$ mkdir ~/.zip
$ cat ~/bin/zip
#! /bin/bash
fusermount -u ~/.zip 2 /dev/null
fuse-zip $1 ~/.zip -omodules=iconv,from_code=CP866,to_code=UTF8
dolphin ~/.zip
xrefresh -white
$ chmod a+x ~/bin/zip
$ zip Документ.zip

Добавляем zip в меню открыть как и получаем профит

Я занялся изучением Gentoo, для того чтобы глубже понимать систему в
целом. Затем пришёл к естественному выводу: Эффективность решения
задач. Т.е. собирать весь мир из исходников, долгая и не оправданная
рутинная работа. А вот собирать отдельные пакеты - это можно. У меня в
системе, кроме этих, есть ещё десяток наверное.

ЗЫ: Очень хороший костыль.

 Зачем было переходить с генту чтоб решать проблемы компиляцией ихолдом? В 
 убунту компиляцию надо заменять на костыли!

 ~/bin/zip#! /bin/bashfusermount -u ~/.zip 2 /dev/nullfuse-zip $1 ~/.zip

 Добавляем zip в меню открыть как и получаем профит

Проблема со встроенной звуковой карточкой

Здравствуйте всем,

На форуме никто не отреагировал, попробую спросить здесь.

Ubuntu 10.04 (обновленная с 9.04 - 9.10 - 10.04), ядро 2.6.35-30 из
backports
Звуковая карточка встроенная, alsaconf говорит, что это nVidia Corporation
MCP51 AC97 Audio Controller (rev a2)
Имеется также HDMI-вывод звука с видеокарты (nVidia GeForce GT 240,
производитель Gainward).
С момента подключения видеокарты вместо встроенной (уже на 10.04) звук
исчез. Восстановить его удалось с помощью этой
инструкцииhttp://help.ubuntu.ru/wiki/alsa.
Pulseaudio я не выковыривала. Иногда без видимых причин после перезагрузки
звук снова пропадал, при запуске alsamixer было видно, что карточки
перемешались (первым показывался HDMI-выход). Помогал запуск alsaconf и
выбор в нем правильной звуковой карты. В HDMI-карте все каналы были по
умолчанию выключены, если включить их с помощью alsamixer -- звук прекрасно
выводился на телик через HDMI. Также с самого начала пропал звук во
флэш-приложениях, случайно методом тыка было обнаружено, что этот звук тоже
почему-то выводится только через HDMI.
После обновления ядра обычно нужно было повторить все действия этой
инструкции http://help.ubuntu.ru/wiki/alsa, и после перезагрузки звук
появлялся.

Сегодня пришли обновления ядра. Звук, как обычно, пропал. Но после
выполнения всех действий по инструкции так и не появился. Alsaconf больше не
видит HDMI-карту.

При запуске с полным путем (/usr/bin/alsamixer и /usr/bin/amixer) -- то же
самое

На самом деле файлы /usr/bin/alsamixer и /usr/bin/amixer существуют, но
почему-то не запускаются.

Что делать? Как вернуть звук и самое главное -- как вернуть alsamixer и
настройки HDMI? Потому что на компе-то звук мне нафик не нужен, а вот кино
мне почему-то нравится со звуком смотреть...

Я наверное непонятно написала... новое ядро уже давно, с ним все работало
прекрасно. Но по указанной ссылке (http://help.ubuntu.ru/wiki/alsa) раньше
была альса 1.0.23. А теперь там 1.0.24. Мне кажется, проблема именно в этом.
Почему не выводится вообще ничего по cat /proc/asound/pcm? Почему не
запускается alsamixer, хотя он существует? Мне кажется, в новой альсе что-то
напутали с путями в конфигах...

Да, а нельзя ли в биосе встроенную звуковую карту отключить?

Нет, ибо другой звуковой карты у меня нет. Звук через HDMI выводится через
видеокарту, исключительно на устройство, подключенное через HDMI (т.е. на
телик). И я сомневаюсь, что это будет работать без нормальной звуковой
карты.

Вообще, уже думается о переустановке... Только в этом случае вопрос -- home у
меня на отдельном разделе, соответственно все настройки программ можно
сохранить. Но настройки звука (и всего, имеющего отношения к звуку) надо
видимо убить все-таки, иначе смысла в переустановке нет. Вот тут я теряюсь --
что именно убивать-то?

Черт, там же русским по белому написано, что только для ядер больше, чем
2.6.38 :-( Для Maverick их нет... что, теперь только переустановка? Или
можно как-то выдрать эту новую альсу и поставить 1.0.23?
Посыпаю голову пеплом... сама виновата, надо читать, что написано :-(

sed 's/maverick/natty/g' -i /etc/apt/sources.list
apt-get update
устанавливаем нужное
sed 's/natty/maverick/g' -i /etc/apt/sources.list
apt-get update

всегда так делаю. И назад (скажем gtk1 установить), и вперёд. Нормально 
прокатывает

не-не. Вы просто установите ядро из репозирория netty

PS: у меня netty и обычный гном O_o. Хотя согласен, компиз к примеру они 
совсем погубили. И как раз таким способом я установил компиз из maverick.

На страничке с установкой альсы есть ссылка на пакеты с новыми ядрами:

Может быть, можно просто оттуда скачать пакеты и поставить? Только я
сомневаюсь, что все так просто... наверняка они потянут какие-то зависимости
за собой. Наверное, не просто так в backports самое новое ядро 2.6.35.30?

  Занимаюсь аккуратным переводом компов на убунту. Проблема кракозябров в
zip-ах это проблема № 2. Поэтому интересуюсь очень как аккуратно и
удобно для пользователя сделать...
