[Bug 775059] Re: duplicity --exclude-other-filesystems does not record mountpoints

2014-08-29 Thread tdn
I agree that this is a bug and it should be fixed. However, it might be
more useful to report it upstream.

[Bug 326132] Re: [wishlist] Pinentry does not allow to paste into it, why?!

2012-08-07 Thread tdn
I can confirm this bug in Kubuntu 12.04. This is extremely annoying. I
regularly use gpg for symmetric encryption with huge (200+ bytes)
autogenerated passphrases. The only practical way of entering such keys
are by copy/paste.

Please fix this, as disallowing copy/paste encurages use of tiny and
unsecure passwords (those that are memorable).

[Bug 888614] Re: Digikam does not show .mkv nor .thm files

2012-07-29 Thread tdn
Any progress on this? I have noticed the current version of digikam
included in Ubuntu 12.04 has an option to add video file extensions, but
adding .mkv here does not appear to have any effect.

I think it is a bit dangerous to have digikam show a folder as empty
when it actually contains video files. This can lead the user to delete
an appearently empty folder/album. Hereby causing data loss.

[Bug 1022028] Re: Libreoffice crashes when saving spreadsheet/document

2012-07-28 Thread tdn
Please note, that I have just checked on this new system, that libreoffice
crashes every time using this procedure:
1: start libreoffice from Konsole by typing soffice
2: then select new spreadsheet
3: type foo into a cell
4: Press Ctrl+S to save
5: LO crashes.

On this particular system, it did not crash when I started LO from the
menu. So maybe this is caused by some env variable or similar?

[Bug 1022028] Re: Libreoffice crashes when saving spreadsheet/document

2012-07-11 Thread tdn
Christopher, I have tried doing what you said, however, when I run ubuntu-bug,
I get this error:
(tdn@barbera) (12-07-11 14:13) (P:0 L:1) [0]
~ $ ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_usr_lib_libreoffice_program_soffice.bin.1000.crash

QPainter::end: Painter not active, aborted
(tdn@barbera) (12-07-11 14:17) (P:0 L:1) [1]
~ $

(ran it twice)

Please note that [1] in my prompt indicates that the previous command
returned 1. So it is an unclean termination of ubuntu-bug.

What to do?

I will try to clarify: Libreoffice crashes immediately when I press Save. This
is before any Save Dialog is shown. So I do not get to select which folder to
save in.
Please note, I use Kubuntu 12.04, so this might be a KDE related thing...

[Bug 1003309] Re: Boot fails after installing updates, error: “cryptsetup: evms_activate is not available

2012-06-03 Thread tdn
I am sorry, but I had to give up on this as I was forced to reinstall a
new VM and recover from backup. I just needed my system in order to get
some work done.

I have taken a snapshot of the old VM and I will try to boot it up again
as soon as it is possible, however, I do not currently have enough free
space on my working system (laptop) that i can have two VM images at the
same time. Thus, I will have to wait a bit before I can do it

[Bug 1003309] Re: Boot fails after installing updates, error: “cryptsetup: evms_activate is not available

2012-05-29 Thread tdn
I am pretty sure I just reproduced this again in these steps:

1: Create a new virtualbox guest machine
2: Set Ubuntu Desktop 12.04 amd64 Alternate installer as virtual cdrom
3: Boot up the system and install Ubuntu Desktop selecting Use entire disk,
encrypted with LVM during disk options
4: When the installer has finished, reboot
5: Run: apt-get update apt-get dist-upgrade -y reboot
6: It fails to come up :(

This time, I do not see the evms error, however, it seems to fail the
same place : before prompting for LUKS passphrase.

[Bug 1003309] Re: Boot fails after installing updates, error: “cryptsetup: evms_activate is not available

2012-05-24 Thread tdn
Luis, I would like to do as you suggest. My partition table is seen here:
http://paste.adora.dk/P2408.html

/dev/sda1 is /boot
/dev/sda5 is the LUKS encrypted partition containing LVM with swap and rootfs.

So, what is the procedure?
Will the following work?

apt-get update
apt-get install cryptsetup initramfs-tools lvm2
modprobe aes-x86_64
modprobe dm-crypt
modprobe dm-mod
cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sda5 pvcrypt
vgscan
vgchange -a y barbera
mount /dev/mapper/barbera-root /mnt
mount /dev/sda1 /mnt/boot
chroot /mnt
apt-get update apt-get dist-upgrade
dpkg-reconfigure linux-image-3.2.0-23-generic
reboot

?

Do I have to mount /proc, /sys or other inside the chroot? Anything else
I should be aware of?

Oh. Forgot to mention that this did not solve the problem.

Rebooting to the previous kernel (23) still gives me evms_activate is
not available, however, booting the current kernel (24) gives no error,
but nothing happens. No error is printed and no passphrase prompt is
shown. If I press Esc to see what happens behind the boot splash, it is
just black. No lines of text.

[Bug 1003309] [NEW] Boot fails after installing updates, error: “cryptsetup: evms_activate is not available

2012-05-23 Thread tdn
Public bug reported:

I run 12.04 LTS on a virtualbox image. I use LUKS and LVM for whole disk
encryption.

After installing recent kernel updates, my system no longer boots. It
says: cryptsetup: evms_activate is not available when it would
normally ask for passphrase.

If I boot the previous kernel, I do not get this error.

This appears to be a bug in the new kernel package?

Until this is fixed, is there any workaround that will let me boot my
system with the new kernel?

More info:
Maybe this issue is related to this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cryptsetup/+bug/957602 ?
However, this is a much more recent kernel.

This kernel works: 3.2.0-23-generic, while this one fails:
3.2.0-24-generic

I have tried doing this:
sudo su -
cd /boot/grub
update-initramfs -u
update-grub
reboot

This did not solve the issue.

It seems that the new kernel does not include evms support, while the older
kernel does.
Is this something that has been officially removed from the Ubuntu provided
kernel? If so, why? I am pretty sure this breaks a lot of Ubuntu deployments
using LUKS and dmcrypt.

My /etc/fstab is available here:
http://p.adora.dk/P2400.html

My /etc/crypttab is available here:
http://p.adora.dk/P2401.html

2012-05-23 Thread tdn
Please note: I ran the apport collector, however, as I cannot boot the
problematic kernel, I am running this on the WORKING kernel. This
probably means, that the collected data is not useful.

So, I guess that it is not possible to use apport to collect data in
this bug.

Yeah, I just did update-initramfs -u -k all followed by update-grub.
That did not solve the problem. In fact, now I cannot even boot the previous
kernel.

I really hope you will help me get my system back in a working state.

[Bug 1003309] Re: Boot fails after installing updates, error: “cryptsetup: evms_activate is not available

2012-05-23 Thread tdn
When I try to boot either kernel, it gives the missing evms error. After
a while, I get a BusyBox prompt. Is there anything I can do from here?

Luis, the page you link to seems to be for 7.04. That is 5 years old. Is
this still valid?

[Bug 1003309] Re: Boot fails after installing updates, error: “cryptsetup: evms_activate is not available

2012-05-23 Thread tdn
I used the following procedure to access the encrypted data:
1: Boot Ubuntu Desktop amd64 12.04 LiveCD.
2: Try Ubuntu
3: Start Terminal and run
sudo su -
apt-get update
apt-get install cryptsetup initramfs-tools lvm2
modprobe aes-x86_64
modprobe dm-crypt
modprobe dm-mod
cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sda5 pvcrypt
vgscan
vgchange -a y barbera
mount /dev/mapper/barbera-root /mnt

Then I could cd into /mnt and access the data.
So, what to do from here? How do I fix the system?

[Bug 893803] [NEW] systray in lxpanel does not correctly handle vertical panels

2011-11-22 Thread tdn
Public bug reported:

I use lxubuntu on a Lenovo S10 netbook.
Because of the small screen, it is important to save vertical screenestate.
Thus, it is natural to put panels on the side screen edges instead of top or
bottom.

However, lxpanel does not handle this well. The systray shows a lot of empty
space as seen in the left side of this screenshot:

[Bug 892516] [NEW] kwin takes up lots of CPU time

2011-11-19 Thread tdn
Public bug reported:

I run Kubuntu 11.10 on my Thinkpad T61p laptop.

This often happens: after using it for a while, kwin starts hogging the
CPU using between 30% and 50% constantly. This is a 2 core CPU, so I
guess 50% means that it takes up 100% of one of the cores.

This is the process line from 'top' showing the process:
  1885 tdn 20 0 700m 112m 53m S 32 2.9 84:39.98 kwin -session
10d2c46c620001306616728002264_1321211077_162487

This is a big problem as it quickly drains the battery if the AC power supply
is not connected and often heats up the CPU a lot.

[Bug 888542] [NEW] Digikam automatically expands folders while dragging over them

2011-11-10 Thread tdn
Public bug reported:

When a user drags a folder over another folder in Digikam, the folder is
automatically expanded. This confuses users and makes it very easy to
accidentially drop the folder in the wrong album.

A screencast illustrating the problem is available here:
http://ifile.dk/d/c4bd89b9-6f4b-49bf-be82-53ffc24ef7f8/

I see three problems here:
1: The automatic folder expansion can be useful in some use cases, however, it
is my experience that it confuses users more than it helps.
2: Appearently, there is no way to disable this behaviour from the Settings
window.
3: .. and this is probably the detail that makes this behavior most
annoying/dangerous: the folder expansion happens too quickly. I am guessing it
happens after hovering between 1 and 2 seconds. This is just too fast. Many
users require much longer time in order to position the mouse correctly. I
would say between 3-5 seconds would easily be needed.

Recommended solution:
1: Provide an option to enable/disable this feature.
2: Set the default bahavior to have this option disabled. (I think other KDE
applications such as Dolphin, etc. also have this feature disabled by default)
3: Make the delay before folder expansion configurable: let the user set the
delay from a range between 500ms to 10s. Set default value to 4s.

[Bug 888240] [NEW] Shortcut for Delete permanently does not work in digikam in 11.10

[Bug 888238] [NEW] Digikam allows RAW (ORF) photos to be rotated, but then fails

2011-11-09 Thread tdn
Public bug reported:

Digikam shows an option to rotate .ORF files (Olympus RAW photos),
however, this action always fails -- because it is appearently not
implemented. Since it does not work, it should not be shown.

Public bug reported:

Everytime I log in, I see these notifications telling me that Nepomuk has been

to be fixed.

[Bug 885296] [NEW] Plasma crashes on Shutdown

2011-11-02 Thread tdn
Public bug reported:

After installing 11.10, Plasma crashes every time I shutdown from the plasma
panel. This is extremely annoying.
Also, if I just start a terminal and type 'sudo halt', it comes further, but
hangs during the shutdown process so that I must press and hold powerbutton to
have it shut off.

Please test such basic functionality before release.

[Bug 787995] Re: Leafpad segfaults

2011-08-02 Thread tdn
Theme: gtk clearlooks
I recently installed qtcurve.
I selected this with gtk-theme-switch2. Now leafpad can start.
So there is still a bug somewhere that needs to be fixed. Either in the theme
or in leafpad.

2011-08-01 Thread tdn
But which one? I experience this with multiple different themes. Also, I
am not sure which package those themes are in. How do I check? Can you
tell me what package to report it to?

Also, do I need to add a new bug report for this theme? Or can I link it
to this one somehow?

[Bug 796549] Re: LO Base: What does register the database in LibreOffice mean?

2011-06-14 Thread tdn
I do not believe this is a support question. I am not asking what the
registration means. I am reporting this as a bug and I still believe it
is a bug. A usability bug, but nonetheless a bug. I also think that it
should be fixed. We need a good office usable suite like LibreOffice if
we want bug #1 to be closed (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1).

[Bug 796549] [NEW] Libreoffice Base poorly explains concepts

2011-06-13 Thread tdn
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libreoffice

When creating a new database connection in Base, the user is given the
question of having the wizard register the database in LibreOffice.
Despite having worked with databases for more than 10 years, upon seing
this question, I had absolutely no idea what it meant. This ought to be
explained better.

[Bug 792685] [NEW] Broadcom wifi stopped working in 11.04, worked in earlier versions

2011-06-04 Thread tdn
Public bug reported:

Hi

I recently installed 11.04. Since then my broadcom wifi card stopped
working. I have tried installing the restricted STA driver. It did not
help. I have even tried following the ubuntu guide for bc43 cards. It
describes two different drivers (STA being one of them). I tried both --
it did not make it work.

With STA driver it works for a little while, then just stops working.
Reconnecting to AP makes it work for a few minutes or seconds.
