[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 591656] Re: scrolling issues using touchpad
You may be right, simar. I thought the synclient output showed the raw hardware output before the driver processes it, but it may be that the xev output and synclient output shows essentially the same. Anyway, we have enough data to forward this bug to the upstream developers. Would you like to do that, simar? (I see you are new at bug triage) If not, I will do it. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Triaged ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Low -- scrolling issues using touchpad https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/591656 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 251107] Re: [Intrepid] nvidia_drv.so: undefined symbol: AllocateScreenPrivateIndex
@Miro: Intrepid isn't any more supported. Anyway, this bug is fixed for the nvidia 96 series. The Tnt2 is part of the older 71 driver which does not support the new xservers (Jaunty and higher) but this bug report isn't about xserver support (and don't open a bug about xserver's compatibility, only nvidia can provide a fix). Nvidia isn't probably going to release a fix for it in the near future. However, starting with Lucid (10.04 LTS), Ubuntu uses by default the free (gpl) nouveau driver which is better and faster than the nv driver but it doesn't yet provide 3d support. -- [Intrepid] nvidia_drv.so: undefined symbol: AllocateScreenPrivateIndex https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/251107 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-71 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 595252] Re: [radeon] screen corruption on resume from hibernate, then cycles between blank and corrupted screen
The plot thickens: When in the middle of normal computer use (i had just started flightgear, which then crashed, I then started it again), the same corruption appeared, with the same cycling behaviour, and similar error messages. I started the xserver again which brought nothing (I did it semi-blindly through the terminal) but that brought nothing (however that wiped the Xorg.0.log from the crash). Attached is the extract from kern.log, which also includes the first crash of flightgear, which might however have nothing to do with the graphics errors. ** Attachment added: kern.log_use http://launchpadlibrarian.net/50477812/kern.log_use -- [radeon] screen corruption on resume from hibernate, then cycles between blank and corrupted screen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/595252 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 585765] Re: Ubuntu 10.04 random freezes
Igor Wojnicki wrote Take a lookat StuartN's post: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9468596postcount=487 This might be a hint what causes the freezes. Switching the root filesystem to writeback mode (instead of the default ordered mode) will work with EXT3 or EXT4. It is not a solution, but it is possibly a method of gathering further data. In my case, I have a system that is functioning (almost) perfectly with kernel 2.6.34 and freezing with kernel 2.6.32-22. The freeze now affects a single process, all the inodes attached to that process and subsequently all processes depending on those inodes - yes, the system does fully freeze after some time, but I have no difficulty accessing logs after recognizing that a process has frozen. (See http://www.iol.ie/~stuartneilson/Bootup_fsck.html) Following the first message, EXT4-fs warning (device sda4): dx_probe: dx entry: limit != root limit (which would equally apply to EXT3-fs), leads to a commit 3d82abae9523c33d4a16fdfdfd2bdde316d7b56a with the title dir_index: error out instead of BUG on corrupt dx dirs - http://mirror.celinuxforum.org/gitstat//commit- detail.php?commit=3d82abae9523c33d4a16fdfdfd2bdde316d7b56a - http://lkml.indiana.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0709.3/0208.html I have not located the version where this is merged into the Ubuntu kernel, or indeed if it is directly relevant. Brian: I spoke too soon. I found a reliable way to reproduce the problem with 2.6.34-v9patch-generic: - if I start my laptop on AC or battery, then suspend it, it works. - if I plug my laptop on AC, then suspend it, it works. - if I put it back to battery, then suspend it, two things can happen: 1) it tries to suspend, but fails, but I can go on working. 2) it tries to suspend, but fails, and everything is frozen... - if I put my laptop on battery, then plug it back to AC, and then try to suspend it, if will fail as if it were on battery. In conclusion, it seems that whenever the laptop gets unplugged from AC, something happens and makes it impossible to suspend it, even if I re- plug it, most of the times even resulting in a freeze. -- MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541511 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I'm running Lucid (x86_64) with the 2.6.34-020634 kernel from kernel- ppa/mainline on a Thinkpad W500 (Radeon HD 3650). Downloading the proprietary driver from http://www2.ati.com/drivers/linux/ati-driver- installer-10-6-x86.x86_64.run and installing worked for me after adding the attached patch to dkms and using the installer's option to build an ubuntu package. I suppose, up to kernel version 2.6.33 no additional patch should be necessary. Windows now minimize and resize very smoothly. Also memory usage of X is constant (after running X for 1,5 hours), although it is pretty high with 360 mb. ** Patch added: fglrx-2.6.34-rc4.patch http://launchpadlibrarian.net/50485252/fglrx-2.6.34-rc4.patch -- [Lucid][Ubuntu 10.04][ATI cards] Slow/freeze windows management (resize, maximise, .etc) with fglrx driver + compositing desktop. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/568988 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 595458] [NEW] After installing Nvidia drivers and rebooting Admin account has no permissions to do anything
Public bug reported: After a fresh installation from the 64 bit alt CD onto a software raid0 configuration of two SSD drives everything works as expected. After installing the NVIDIA drivers from the hardware manager dialogue and rebooting i have no permissions to view and use sound, shutdown or reboot (just logs out to gdm and refuses to shutdown from there too), cannot mount any drives, or any system utilities requiring su permissions. If un installation of the NVIDIA drivers is performed and rebooted the problem disappears. This is repeatable on another system using SSD drives and raid 0 vis software raid (mdadm). When not using software raid and no SSD drives the problem doesnt exist. The problem can intermittently exist when using either software raid 0 with ordinary drives, or when using SSD drives and no raid. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 362359] Re: Focus gets stuck to a window - impossible to select other windows
Yes, this bug still exists on Lucid with latest updates, but it is now much less frequent. On Karmic it would happen every 1-2 days. I've been running Lucid for over a month and it has taken this long to happen only once. (I use my computer all day every day.) Exactly the same bug: Focus is stuck in a Window. Can get to other windows only by closing the stuck window, then you're stuck in the next window. Alt-Tab doesn't work (no effect whatsoever). I think the mouse cursor is a resize one like -| but I'm not certain. Although I get an extra sensor for the video adapter, the fans are not turned on automatically and I still get very high tempreature. -- Computer shuts down on heavy CPU usage due to overheating https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/595335 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)
Thanks Brian: I'm one of those with an 855 Intel chipset. I tried out your system patch on a completely clean 10.04 install. Though the dots animation screen proior to the login screen is not visible, log in proceeds perfectly. Only problem is my Compiz graphics have been reduced to the Ubuntu 8.10 to 9.04 range where video playing in media player of VLC does not track window dragging until the window is released. Additionally, Windows-E does not resize the video playing in the window. This means I'm back to playing one video at a time as the video playback is locked to a hard screen region, not to a logical screen region. Additionally the sleep problem fixed with 10.04 has reverted back to 9.04. If I close and reopen the lid while the system is running, the system locks. Regressing my system by 6 to 12 months is not the way to go. Sorry. I should mention that aside from the sleep problem, I have full 3D compiz graphics with no glitches in the default install of 9.10 I'm still running as my main system on the same Dell x300 laptop. Thanks for the effort. Hope this helps. Now about the rumors.. is this maybe a problem in Intel's driver supporting my older hardware, and are they doing any work? I think I've noticed at least one Intel driver come down the pike so far.. Ahimsa As long as there are slaughterhouses, there will be battlefields. -Leo Tolstoy -Jess E. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 595335] Re: Computer shuts down on heavy CPU usage due to overheating
I must correct myself. It DOES happen too with the fglrx proprietary drivers. I tried OCRing and using a clutter-dependant plug in for Banshee and the temperature rose nevertheless and computer had to shut itself down again. ** Description changed: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati When I'm doing a demanding CPU activity (ripping a CD, doing OCR, etc), the computer shuts itself down due to overheating (more than 99 C). I've tried running sudo sensors-detect but no modules were loaded. I've also tried booting with option acpi.power_nocheck, but to no use. I've also tried adding options radeon modeset=1 to /etc/modprobe.d /radeon-kms.conf. Lastly, I updated my BIOS from the vendor's webpage, but it didn't help either. - This only happens while I'm on the open-source ATI drivers. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 595623] [NEW] Screen does not refresh properly on ATI Radeon 9800 since Ubuntu Lucid 10.04 on pre-existing user
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg I've got a slightly strange problem that I'm filing as a bug since it might potentially hit other users. Basically the desktop is not updating/refreshing properly when I log into my pre-existing user after re-installing with Lucid from scratch. (I have a seperate /home partition and usually upgrade by nuking the system partition and reinstalling while retaining my /home partition and user files. This has not been a problem until now.) Things I've tried: 1.) Created a new test user with no prior history. This presents no problem. 2.) User my original user as is. Doesn't work -- desktop displays but any further clicks/windows are not displayed unless you switch displays in some fashion (VT switch, Super-E and back to zoom out and zoom in again) or such, at which point the display does update as expected, but is then stuck again as before. 3.) I've tried overwriting/copying the clean-state test user's profile files on top of my existing user account files. Behaviour is same as reported in 2.) This implies that the problem is possibly caused by a remnant or setting taken over from my prior install that's not been overwritten by the copy from the test user. Any suggestions on how to track down what might be wrong and/or which configuration folders I should nuke to try and rectify this problem would be appreciated. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 560570] Re: fglrx fails to identify attached monitor, displays blank screen
Just to report that the behaviour experienced after updating flgrx to the latest version (2:8.723.0ubuntu4) is identical (brief flash in Plymouth, then Xorg hangs with 100% CPU load on boot). The outputs for all logs all the same (nothing meaningful, AFAIU). I reiterate my offer to the developers to help retrieving any debugging information that may be relevant. Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
