I bought the medical version which supposedly has a lower ripple current, but costs a few pounds more. Some people have bypassed the 24v section and powered the PI2AES from a 5v supply, but there is no protection of the board in this case. The RPI4 is powered with a Charmast battery pack. My trusty Ankaka battery is now being used to charge the Charmast... Mike at PI2Design is helpful if you have questions. It did not stop the drop outs but the GUSTARD kept its lock, although I still needed to reboot. Removing underclocking didn't help, the RPI4 just ran a bit warmer. In the end, I tried a different LiIon battery to power the RPI4. So far, its been running 24 hrs without drop outs, so that could have been the issue all along. Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 8.0.0
I have recently upgraded my DAC from Topping D90 to a Gustard x26 Pro. I am running v8.0 on an underclocked 8GB RPI4 with a PI2AES providing outputs via coax, optical, AES and IIS. All sound great but after a while the sound cuts and the Gustard appears to lose lock. This can be 30 mins or after being run overnight. PCP is still running, restarting squeezelite does nothing but it works after a reboot. This happens on all outputs from the PI2AES. It does not happen with the Topping. The RPI is running at 56C. I am not sure if its the DAC, RPI4, PI2AES or PCP. Has anyone experienced something similar? I restarted > LMS on the NAS but that did not change anything. Powered everything > off and on. Still the same. Very strange. I installed BT onto 6.0.0 audio version with USB audio playing. The installation was OK but the speaker daemon was not running and would not start so I rebooted. It was at this point that the USB volume dropped. Uninstalling BT, turning it off and doing an in-situ update made no difference. I powered down the RPI, inserted an SD-Card I knew to be working (6.0.0 audio, no BT) but still the USB volume was low. I then turned-off my DAC (Caiman SEG) and the RPI restarted them again. Voila, the USB sound came back on that card. I then tried the card where I had installed BT. Again the USB sound came back. Clearly, whatever is going on is affecting the settings of the USB device(s). To see if this is a "one-off" after installation of the BT extension and if the USB sound would come back after turning everything off, I reinstalled BT again. Same story - loss of sound after reboot and also after powering everything down.I then disabled BT (but did not uninstall) and rebooted, same story. I tried powering down/up-again, but no difference. Finally, uninstalled the BT extension, powered everything down and then restarted... no difference, low USB sound. So in summary, the USB sound is lost after installing the extension, turning on the RPI BT and then rebooting. This persist on an SD-Card even when BT isu turned off and the extension uninstalled, even if everything is powered down and restarted. It also persists even with a working SD-Card unless everything is powered-down and restarted. I hope that all helps to point to the source of the problem... fsger's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15977 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111972 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Thank you for your reply. I was able to play both at the same time but didn't notice a drop in the volume at that time. I also tried to sync them too but just got a terrible noise from the BT speaker, so assumed it was not possible. I don't think it was a power issue. The loss of volume persisted even after uninstalling BT and powering down the Pi and then powering-up again - which is why I had to do a fresh reinstall of PCP. Anyway, I'll try again to see when things go wrong, and let you know. fsger's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15977 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=111972 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] piCorePlayer 6.x.x - Bluetooth
Hi, I have been using PCP 6.0.0 for a while and am very pleased with it - well done! Yesterday I thought I would try out BT with a BT speaker. I was very happy that is was easy to install, discover my BT speaker and get working (once I'd figured-out that the speaker becomes another player). Later, I went back to listening in my main hifi (I use a USB output to my DAC) and the volume was drastically lower and the bass almost absent (the player volume setting has always been fixed at 100%). Thinking the volume on the BT speaker player was somehow affecting the USB player I set its volume to be fixed at 100% - no change. I then uninstalled BT - no change and reinstalled BT, but no change. In the end I had to completely reinstall PCP 6.0.0 to get the volume back. I'd like to use BT but this is a show-stopper for me. I recently upgraded to v5.0.0 and all went very smoothly, or so I thought... The 4.1.0 audio version had been rock-steady but then every minute or two when playing Radio Paradise v5.0.0 dropped-out, but when streaming from my NAS it seems stable. I changed to the standard version to see if that would fix it but the same happens. Any thoughts? My WiFi settings are all set in wpa_supplicant.conf so the country code ("GB") has not changed. But, I think I have solved the issue I was having - even with the normal version. I eventually gave-up using the Web GIU and tried the "setup" via SSH. I got a sign-of-life (i.e. an IP address) and visibility of the RPI3 on my wifi network but could not connect to the Web GUI. I then edited the wpa_supplicant.conf (based on the sample) file on the SDcard adding my SSID, password and country code (GB). I rebooted and voila, I had an IP address, I could connect to it with or without the LAN cable attached and, most importantly of all, my LMS can see it and I can play music. Perhaps the issue is related to the passphrase/password. I use a series of hex characters for my password but the PCP GUI treats this as a passphrase and generates a long hex number based from the passphrase and SSID, which my network does not recognise so I cannot connect. If this is really the problem, an option to bypass the passphrase generation would be good. fsger's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15977 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109404 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] ANNOUNCE: piCorePlayer 4.0.0
I am running PCP 4.1.0 with the experimental real-time kernel. Soundwise it is great but I'd like to connect via WiFi (I have noted the warnings it may not work) rather than Ethernet. When I configure the WiFi it gets an IP address (defined statically)and I can connect via that IP address to the PCP when the Ethernet is still connected, but I cannot reach the PCP when it is disconnected. Using an IP scanner, I can see that the wireless IP address has the same MAC address as the Ethernet interface. I get this with the 2.4GHz (CH7 GB) and 5GHz (CH36 GB) networks (which it can see when I do a scan on the wifi settings page). I have installed crda.tcz. Is there something else I can do or is this the hard reality of "it may not work"?. fsger's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15977 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=109404 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 3.5.0
I had been running 3.22 Audio without any problems and expected an easy upgrade to 3.5.0 Audio. Unfortunately, I spent number of fruitless evenings trying to get a version of 3.5.0 Audio & LMS to run stably (in most cases at some point in the set-up it - usually after LMS was installed - it just failed to respond and I could not even ping my RPi 3 on a hardwired connection). I also tried with several power supplies with the same result (I did get lucky once but when the RPi was restarted I could not connect or ping). I began to suspect the RPi 3 hardware but as a last check I went back to 3.11. It worked perfectly, as did 3.20, 3.21, 3.22, so I tried the non-audio 3.5.0, which also works perfectly - and sounds excellent by the way. Has any one else had similar issues with 3.5.0 Audio with LMS on RPi3? Is it simply that it is too heavy for the RPi3 and needs the RPi3+? fsger's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15977 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108852 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 3.5.0
Thanks guys for the update it looks like you have made some great improvements but I am struggling to get it to work on my RPI3. Previously I was running PCP 3.22 Audio with an Allo Digione, LMS with a USB SSD mounted and SAMBA to allow me to synch the SSD with my NAS. The in-situ update from 3.22 Audio to 3.5.0 Audio failed so I flashed the SD-card (2GB) and got the PCP main page via the normal IP address and could set-up Squeezelite for my DigiOne. However, at various stages in the set-up of LMS it looses the connection (forcing the DHCP to be off made no difference). This seems to happen in several circumstances: 1. When expanding the SD card volume to install LMS. Instead of "full card" which failed, I chose 1000MB which worked (usually but not always). 2. If I turn the on-board wifi off (I am using a wired connection) 3. If I try to install Samba (this was after LMS was installed and the volume expanded) 3. After rebooting PCP after selecting DigiOne (this only happened after I had installed LMS, otherwise it would work) Sometimes after these events I can ping the RPI3, others not, but the web page fails to come up. Powering down and rebooting makes no difference so I have to re-flash the card and start all over again. fsger's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15977 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=108852 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

That did the trick and the SPDIF output is now working nicely. fsger's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15977 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105018 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix

I might be wrong, but it is something for you to try. Many thanks. I had found this suggestion on the hifiberry website. Losing Bluetooth is not a problem but using WinSCP I could not find a /boot folder anywhere on the picoreplayer nor a config.txt file (searched all the folders). Also, piCorePLayer 2.04 came out several weeks after the hifiberry posting, so I though it was possibly fixed. Perhaps Greg would be kind enough can point me in the right direction. fsger's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15977 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105018 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 2.00
I have been using the piCorePlayer with a RPI3 and an Audiophonics DAC for the RPI and was getting a very good sound - both using wired and wifi. The wifi has been very good and rock steady. I thought I would try output via SPDIF to my Beresford Caiman II DAC so I bought a hifiberry Digi+ card which is supposed to work with the RPI3. After installing the card, I selected the digi+ output in Squeezelite and it rebooted and says it is running. All settings are the default ones. However, there is no sound from the Caiman II DAC neither via optical nor via the coaxial outputs. This is a puzzle because the Caiman quite happily works with coax/optical from my SBT and USB from the RPI3 and an RPI B, and I have read on AoS that people have used the Digi+ with the Caiman with no problems. Is there a known issue with piCorePlayer and the digi+ with the RPI3? fsger's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=15977 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=105018 ___ unix mailing list unix@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
