[SlimDevices: Unix] Rpi

Having helped a few people with LMS and RPi with piCorePlayer, my BIL is
the only one having issues.

He is 200 miles away and helping him over TeamViewer is not ideal. I am
visiting this weekend, and would like to sort it out.

System
RPi 3b, running away LMS only, with local USB HDD for music. 
Picoreplayer v 3.22, Linux 4.9.50 pcpCore v7, piCore v 8.01, 
Logitech Touch
iPad with IPeng 

Issue
Spotify (only) is skipping.  iPeng momentarily loses the song too, and
the album art disappears, and Song Title.  Then comes back.

I’m not very good at interrogating logs...

Actions
I tried dropping Spotify from 320 to next lower setting, and no
difference. 
I tried updating LMS and piCore version and got an error “downloading
insitu.cfg”. 

Shall I just plan to update to v5 or v6 beta PiCore player - where I am
not getting this type of issue?  And if so, which one?  I guess there is
no upgrade path other than full wipe of SD card and start again.

Yes, I think it meets what they are looking for

I have an alarm in my Kitchen Radio, timed so its on when passing
through, to listen to traffic alerts, before leaving for the day...so
lazy to even have to remember to turn it ON or OFF (after 10mins).

Saved me numerous times.

If running the pi zero W as a player - wouldn't the "Alarm" in LMS be

It wasn’t the NTFS that appeared to be the problem, it was that it was
GPT not MBR.

I had another go, tried various combinations, but it didnt work. 
I think I need to go and read up in the terminology here, I recall i
have made mistakes here before, something like forward/back slashes.

I think I did set it and and Saved it.  Just been back, tried a longer
password (in a case there are rules), but nothing showing in the box
still. And no access...

GPT converted to MBR - all working as I would want, scanned music Ok,
and now working as a Player and LMS Server.  Delighted as usual, many
thanks for everyone’s help in resolving.

I then set it up with WiFi and that was a first for me, now working,
having added .conf file to memory card as per pcp Help instructions.

I have then setup up Samba, in an attempt to add/delete music remotely
on the USB HDD.

I tried using tc and piCore as Username & Password but i don’t seem to
be able to see inside the folder (though the network is present).  It
sounds like ReadWrite permissions issue - any further pointers?

Ok, thanks for checking.  I’m not sure why it wouldn’t download
util-linux.tcz

I’m going the other way atm, and have converted the drive to MBR and
just waiting for the music to copy over...

I'm now converting the GPT HDD to MBR and trying againI will have to
move my music back to it, so it's could take a while tonight.

Happy for further comments though - all info will get me nearer to the

Thanks, nice to know.  I realise I'm grasping a little here, but I'm
trying to ensure what has worked before should work again, so trying to
eliminate the differences.  Card Size, and such a big one, was worth a

One of my concerns with the SD Card my friend bought was I didn't
realise it was 128Gb, and then selected a bigger partition "whole card".
yes, a lengthy delay ensued

I have now reverted to proper components I have built with before, 16Gb,
and just let pCP pick a size when it tried to install LMS.  I let it
select 100Mb.  Perhapos this could be autoselected to something bigger? 


I think I saw a Post in the Beta thread saying 300Mb - but not sure, so
i went default.

My new PSU and SD Card have arrived.  Based on comments above, it
appears that later versions of pCP have better handling of write
permissions etc, so I have opted to install v6 b5

I let this resize to 100Mb when installing LMS - I had previously tried
larger ones - but stuck with the default one this time.

On completion, and several reboots after changing, and sett ing up LMS -
I then shutdown to insert the USB HDD.  

It was recognised, but wanted to install util-linux.tcz due to GPT.  I
tried to do this and it failed - 3 times.  

Any advice?

Thanks for all replies so far...

The post #1 shows I did install additional file support, from which I
rebooted pCP and then was able to Mount the drive.  Your link has extra
steps - and I am prepared to wipe the USB HDD and follow those and retry
later

I just don't recall doing these steps when running a USB (powered from
RPi) HDD before.

I think I will order a RPi PSU and SD Card just to rule out the only
other differences between the troublesome unit and what I have done a
few times before.  It won't do any harm.

So I need to purchase a powered USB Hub then?  All the other systems I
put together (using RPi PSU / Meanwell PSU & recommended SD Card) are
all running fine.

I have built a few RPi and matched them with USB HDD - running both LMS
and as a player - all OK.

But I started to help someone else, and I am having an issue with the
USB HDD failing to be scanned by LMS.

I set up the LMS and point it to the Mounted Music of the USB HDD (and
it sees it), but the scan shows 0 artists/songs etc and when I browse in
LMS to the MNT again - it has disappeared.

Any suggestions?  I have already changed from a Toshiba HDD to WD. 
Tried pCP v5.  I do suspect the PSU but I only have a MeanWell one to
try it against, and it means taking apart a working system.

PSU (non RPI - but it is 2.5A)

Memory Card (128Gb)

The last 2 items were not what I asked them to order :-(

For Info:
I went from 4.1.0 to 5.0.  I am using the same RPi for Squeezelite and
LMS duties.  Squeezelite seems OK.

I could not get LMS to runI would click "start" and it got the green
tick.  But a refresh saw that go back to the red cross.

I have now uninstalled LMS, and re-installedseems to be working OK. 
But obviously have to set LMS back up again.

Can someone confirm - piCorePlayer 3.22 with LMS running on SDCard, is
at higher risk of failing if Power is removed?  
All this talk of backups is getting me worried.  If I turn off my WHS
and move over to the RPi, I’m worried my aging brain will forget how I
got it to work if it later fails.

Have you been to the Web UI of PicorePlayer,  and looked at the Tweaks
Tab (might need to be Advanced Mode).?

You need to install Jivelite there, reboot, and select install again in
the same placeor something like that.

Yes, that’s the Display I purchased.  

The previous poster linked to a complicated process, but I guess you
have it integrated now.  Any extensions I need st all?  Is joggler the
correct selection?

I’m not sure why my touchscreen feels so difficult to use. If there is
nothing I can do to calibrate - are other Official Displays showing
similar behaviours.?

I’m having to tip toe around it, softly pressing it.  And volume button
(bottom right) is particularly irksome.

I followed the instructions for the getting my Official RPi Display
working with the RPi and piCorePlayer.  It is working of a fashion, just
the precision of the screen, particularly at the edges, is not working.

I looked at the instructions for calibrating (the albeit different)

First off - piCorePlayer - installation went great, my second use of RPi
(with Display) for a Boom Box style DIY Player.(the first use being
as a LMS Server with USB HDD).  Thanks to all contributors.

One of the remaining issues I am working through - is the calibration of
the screen.
