Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 3.00

2019-09-09 Thread paul-

Been a long time since I used a 3.5 system, but it should still work
similar today. Sounds like it’s waiting for network.

Start as you would, then plug a network cable in. You should be able
to connect that way and then look at the boot logs. Or connect a
keyboard and monitor to see what is going on.

Make sure you did not setup other network mounts while you had it
connected to a wire.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 3.00

2019-09-09 Thread jemhayward

I have a RPi 2 running PiCore Player 3.5.0 that is my travel music
system. I attach a SSD, run squeezelite and LMS on it and plus on some
headphones or a speaker and it worked fine. I set up wireless access
point so I can control it from my phone.

It worked fine a year ago. Now, the AP fires up on boot, and is visible
with an IP address of 10.10.10.1 and it allocates my phone 10.10.10.75,
so that is working. BUT neither the LMS, or the PiCoreplayer interface
pages appear on any IP address my phone can access. If I pull out my
wifi dongle and reboot on a network cable, it grabs an IP address from
my DHCP and all works fine.

I've obviously not set something up, or I've switched something off but
nothing I can find. I've not set the IP address as fixed (which is what
I thought I'd done) - so any ideas?

Solved! Pumping up the alsamixer made the difference. Thanks to everyone

Try using SSH

USB devices often have many possible output settings.

Expand the more> by the output setting, you should see all of the
possible choices. You also may need to set the Alsa volume to max

I'm on 4.1.0. I didn't see the 3.00 thread title. Sorry about that.

Anyway, after adding hw:CARD=cubik to the output setting box the

Now go to the pCP web interface and choose Squeezelite - and then from
the "Audio settings" section at the top choose "USB Audio" and hit
save.
It should then ask to reboot ... to which you should say yes.

Then, when it comes back, go to the same place and pick one of the
listed USB audio devices.
If the first does not work ... try one of the others ... and repeat
until working.

Also - I see that your USB speakers registered a "HID" device (human

You could check to see if they are discovered as a USB device during the
boot phase.
For example - from SSH session
dmesg | grep -i usb

or from the web UI in Beta mode - go to the Diagnostics page and look
for dmesg and the scroll through that (or Copy/Paste into a text editor
and search it for "usb" without quotes)

I have a pair of 'Palo Alto Cubik speakers'
(http://www.paloaltoaudio.com/cubik/) with an internal DAC. These active
speakers would be a great fit for my workshop hi-fi but I just can't get
them to work with PiCorePlayer.

The now defunct Palo Alto didn't provide any information about the DAC
or other internals. Which I know isn't helpful. Though I can get them to
work perfectly with my PC (Elementary OS Juno) and Volumio on a Pi2 &
Cubox-i. Which might be a place to start.

Any ideas or suggestions?

My picoreplayer is a Rasperry Pi 3B+

Everything works great except: the clock displays a time 3hours earlier

Maybe jivelite can have the "timezone" function added in to the menus -
just like on the original SBT.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 3.00

2018-12-19 Thread spyder

Dear Greg and all,

First of all, thank you for making piCorePlayer such a great player. I
tried other audioplayers on my Raspberry Pi, but this one beats them in
terms of stability and speed!

Recently I bought a X6000K-7.1CH to for a multi-room audio from
piCorePlayer. Seems like a great card with 8 outputs.

I would like to send 8 channels over HDMI to the X6000, but the current
implementation of BCM2835 limits the number of channels that can be send
over HDMI to 2. The BCM2835 would need to be patched as follows: url in
next post

Note that the change that I refer to contains additional commits, but
according to what I read, this is the minimum needed to get 8 channels
to work.

How could I apply this change?

Thanks!

hi FAF,

Obviously this should be a "no brainer" and I can't see a problem with
what you have done.

Mine current HDDs always work. Are you using a Powered USB HDD? I had a
problem once where the drive would sometimes mount properly but often
mount "readonly". I moved on to a different HDD assuming that the RPi I
was using at the time wasn't supplying enough current to spin up this
non-powered USB HDD reliably.

Hopefully someone comes sees something I may have missed. :)

Hi

I have used FDISK to partition the HDD as EXT4. No problems there.

I have made a Chwon for TC at the CLI.

I have "Set Write Persmission" at the UI. Same thing.

I have tried all I can think of, including repartitioning the HDD on

I have the HDD attached on a X800 from Subtronics:

The HDD is recognized as SDA and I have made the partition on SDA2. I
also tried SDA1 but this will not work, correct?

Any ideas?

If you don't know what to choose, then you don't need the audio kernel
version.

Hey devs, Audio version needs to be renamed to
Kernal Latency Tweak with Reduced Functionality (KLTRF) version

@liffy99, the audio version doesnt play nice with wifi and other things.
Reflash using the normal version and wifi will be easy. Just remember
the limitation on special characters in the wifi password :)

What is the difference / advantage with the 'Audio' version 3.5 ?
I naturally opted for that as I only play music via the

Audio version 3.5 of PCP fed from LMS on my IMac via router.
I now need to move the RPI to a location without ethernet access so have
tried to use the RPI's wifi facility, with no joy. Cannot see it on my

My PCP setup is;

Sorry - this was the thread I found when I searched. I've just upgraded
to 3.5.0.

I'll just download and re-install. I guess insitu upgrade didn't work

I want to fill a USB stick, mounted on my RPi 2 with music ready for our
holiday next week. I've installed SAMBA and it's running and I can see
the shared folder from my Windows and Mac machines, but any attempt to
connect using tc as the username and my newly allocated password are
rejected. This seems to be the most basic action, so I must have got
something fundamentally wrong, but I really can't figure out what I've

DKMS won't work in pCP. You have to compile the kernel module manually.

O.K., I swapped inputs to no avail. However, that gave me another
thought. I put the RPI in HDMI 1 and booted it. Again, it could not
connect to the router. So I left it in HDMI 1 and restarted the RPI. As
long as I switched ti to another input on the monitor before I let it
time out on finding a router, it connected.

So I'm still scratching my head...

Sounds to me (of course, I'm only a "junior" member ;) that the
problematic TV/monitor is emitting RF interference of some type,
disrupting the wifi signal just enough to prevent connection. I would
try booting up pCP with monitor powered on but 1) with TV/monitor
connected to different hdmi source and 2) with powered TV/monitor not
connected to any source. If either produces same result, than you can
eliminate pCP as the problem.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 3.00

2018-03-04 Thread Howard Passman

I can live with this, but it is perplexing to me. Everything is the same
as it has been for about a year. Same RPI running piCorePlayer, hooked
to the same monitor using the HDMI output and using the same
router/access point. About a week ago I went to use it and it seemed
frozen. I tried to reboot and the wifi came up, but could not find the
access point. I brought it upstairs and tried it. It worked fine.

I then changed access points/routers. Started it up. No problem. Took it
back downstairs and had the same problem. Eventually, I decided to try
it without the monitor hooked up and it works fine. I thought maybe it
needed a better power supply because of the HDMI, although I'm pretty
sure the HDMI is powered by the TV. Anyway, that didn't work either.

I then wiped it and started again, which took several days thanks to
Souceforge :-) Tried it again...same behavior. I did try it with a
different monitor using the HDMI output and it worked fine. I am
scratching my head and don't know exactly where else to look.

In a nut shell, everything loads normally, WiFi comes up and starts
looking for the access point. It goes through the three tries and never
connects. If I boot it and turn the monitor off before it gets tot he
third try,or any point before that, it boots fine and connects to WiFi.

As I said, not a big deal, just perplexing.

Using all of the latest software on a original RPI Bwith a HiFiBerry RCA
DAC attached.

Thanks again,

Howard

Can I go home now?

Finally able to access sourceforge (wow, multi-day outage), and yes,
verified running latest version on pCP. I also tested jivelite windows,
and it exhibits exactly the same problems of no play prompts. Seems
prompt function is disabled/deleted in all jivelite flavors. :-(

Are you still running picoreplayer 3.0n?

If so, you need to upgrade to 3.22 but make sure sourceforge is actually
up before you try and install the latest jivelite from the web gui

Does anyone know how I can get my piCorePlayer to display the play
prompts that are supposed to appear when Defeat Destructive Play is in
effect? This problem also seems related to another - partially played
podcasts will not play. I finally figured out this was because a select
prompt for partially played podcasts is not appearing on piCorePlayer
touch screen, causing endless wait in LMS server for input on the
un-displayed Play from Last Position/Beginning prompt. However if I
control piCorePlayer remotely (Orange Squeeze android app or Squeezebox
Touch), it works properly, but not with piCorePlayer's resident JiveLite
controller. Seems like a particular prompt function was disabled in
jivelite code.

Any help would be appreciated!

You can check if you followed the instructions correctly by looking at
WebUI Settings/Advanced/Filetypes and look at the entries for "Windows

Worked really well for me. Don't forget to set the source of extensions
to the piCorePlayer sourceforge repository. You'll need pcp-ffmpeg.tcz
and pcp-lame.tcz. Don't forget the pcp bu when you're in linux.

This was 'discussed on the pcp 3.20 thread for wma files'

For wma lossless files you'll need to change wma to wmal or if you want
support for both formats duplicate the contents and modified the copied
lines to use wmal.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 3.00

Squeezebox classic does not support WMA lossless so it needs a
trasnscoder for the WMA Lossless filetype "wmal". The default LMS
transcode is wmadec which is a Windows only application.

Unless pcp supplies a custom-convert.conf file with filetype wmal set up
to use ffmpeg instead of wmadec - it will need to be added to the pcp
based LMS. The error "Couldn't create command line for wmal playback for
[file name]" relates to the missing transcoder set up for the "wmal"
filetype in convert.conf and any custom-convert.conf file.

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 3.00

2018-02-21 Thread shaunm

Thanks for awesome work on this project.

I am trying to use the PiCorePlayer as just a LMS with a Raspberry Pi
Zero W, which my Squeezebox classic connects to.
I've set everything else up perfectly and easily due to the great
instructions (thanks!) except playing wmal files.

1. LMS with Squeezebox

I've spent all day trying, I can play:

mp3
wav
mpeg-4
wma

BUT, cannot play
wmal (wma lossless)

get this error:
Slim::Player::Song::open (409) Error: Couldn't create command line for
wmal playback for [file name]

Unfortunately 75% of music collection (27,000 songs) is wmal.

I've read it's a windows codec for WMAL, so is it simply the case you
cannot play WMAL files in LMS?

2. Just to check, I tried the built-in Squeezelite player and it does
play WMAL all be it with juddering and hissing (hdmi out)

3. I don't know if this what I'm missing, but I tried to load the
extension ffmpeg.tcz but it failed with this message:
Downloading: expat2.tcz
Error on expat2.tcz

4. I loaded the extension ffmpeg-doc.tcz and restarted but didn't seem
to do anything.

An help would be appreciated. All I'm looking to do is for LMS to work
with my Squeezebox Classic, playing WMAL files

Thanks in advance,

Hello everybody,
I am using a RPi 3 with an i-Sabre DAC from Audiophonics and a 5"
800x480 capacitive Touchscreen I found on Amazon.
Everything works like a charm thanks to the great system you put
together in piCorePlayer.
The only thing that does not work is the alignment in the touch
function... the mouse is nowhere near my finger in Jivelite.
When I load Rasbian though, alignment is perfect.
This is the Touchscreen I use:
wiki.52pi.com/index.php/5-Inch-800x480-Capacitive-Touch-Screen_SKU:_EP-0081
You have to edit /boot/config.txt to get the resolution right, which I
did successfully.
They are talking about a shellscript and drivers on the page which I
wasn't able to load because I wouldn't know how to do that in TCE.
I would really appreciate any help with the touchscreen function.
Thanks so much in advance.
JM

That's exactly what I originally wanted to create but how I've ended up
designing my multiroom setup means the pi's are a considerable distance
from where I will be when controlling them. So I either need to extend
the pins by about 10 meters and run them through multiple walls, or go
wireless.
I think I can make the controls work using a wireless keyboard, but no
idea how to do a display

Oh, I've been mucking around on my microsoft wireless keyboard assuming

hi Josh,

As Paul said, usually there is no need for Server IP.

Many years ago people used to always add this and it caused lots of

mangling the port number. Once we convinced people not to do it, the
problems went away, but. it should work. Tested OK on my system.

Can you check your IP is correct under Server IP more help.

Code:

Connect to the specified LMS, otherwise autodiscovery will find the server

  [:]
  Default port: 3483
Note: Do not include the port number unless you have changed the default LMS
port number.
  Current LMS IP is:

I have assumed you are using wired Ethernet and not wifi?

OK - here's the weirdness.

1. System is actually working, but still can't access the webpage for
the player. I am able to change the audio player (Hifi Berry +) and
reboot successfully. Then when I add the IP# of the server (wanted to
eliminate the DNS variable) and declare the max bit rate and reboot
again, the page won't load. However, it is running.

2. I tried 3 different SD cards and even another Pi that I have and no
change to the issue.

3. Is there anything that I can look at by SSHing into the Pi?

Thanks

screen shot just before you hit the submit/set button?

I would suspect a bad SD card.

No - literally the webserver on the Pi to access the configuration.
cgi-bin/about.cgi is the landing page for the picoreplayer. It will not
load anymore after I make the first configuration change..

Thanks for the reply. Since I started from a new image, I need to enter
my server IP, bitrate, and audio card info. I click to save the settings
and squeeze restarts. All seems like it should work, but then the
webpage for the server is inaccessible.

Try typing
setup
(which is a script at from /usr/local/sbin/setup)
However, I don't know if that will do what you want since usually no
need to run it by hand.

Hi all,

Hoping to find some help with a new problem. I previously had a working
setup with v3.1. I had to change some options and
for some reason the interface won't load anymore. I went and flashed a
new sd card with 3.22 and then 3.2 and then back to 3.1 and the same
thing keeps happening. I can access cgi-bin/about.cgi on the first boot,
but then it is no longer accessible after the first "save" of a
configuration change. Browsers just hang on trying to load it. Even when
actually rebooting the Pi, it is no longer accessible.

I figured I would try configuring through SSH, but after logging in,
typing "picoreplayer" didn't bring up any setup menu.

Can anyone give me some direction?

Thanks!

The "Normal" waveinput plugin just does a "arecord" with the Alsa device
name after the "wavin:" to PCM output is then fed into LMS as per the
usual rules into PCM or transcoded into Flac or MP3.So for Waveinput
to work - you need to have a working Alsa subsystem, a valid device name
and that LMS is running under a userid that can access the audio
devices.

Hi Paul,
thank you for your response.

For all "non-real time" applications, the solutions you provided work
perfectly fine.
But sometimes I would like to plug a tablet or phone into the Pi's big

The USB card's microphone input does play from the output of the USB

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the response, I will give it a shot. It’s been a while
thinking back what I initially did to set it up, maybe I used the Wi-Fi

Hi Scott,

Thanks for the help, it’s been a while. I’ve been pretty much using what
you suggested the A+.

I’m using a fiber adapter, I works really well. I’ve been away for a
bit, kind of a extended vacation but I’m back and actually just picked
up the allo board and I am impressed. Currently have it running in a B2
With regular ethernet, but will now work on the A+.
I am still using a Modi multi-bit and the Allo board
makes a clear difference vs the Digi+ Pro. What’s your current set up?

When you use a different pi to setup, you need to use the same arch, as
the setup scripts only retrieve files for the current arch.

So if you setup on a Model B (or B+) it would have worked. But the
rpi2B is a armv7 device, it did not work.

I've got a partially working .conf file for the Cirrus Logic Audio Card
I need to complete and test.
For this moment it shows up in the gui dropdown list, and after choosing

However, adding the alsa equal breaks it and shows it needs some more

I assume it is the alsa config to use the card
Is there any further info on the way this setup is designed and tips on

If anyone is in a position to do the verification in parallel , here is

The card is working, I use it in 2 systems. Hias did some great work on
the driver, and it made it into the kernel.
Loading the modules however is not error free, but I found a way to
tweak it, and it just adds a few seconds extra setup time after boot.
There is a thread on this forum to help people who are interested in
that setup.

Looking at soundcard_control.cgi it screems "start Wolfson chip config
commands here!" where Analog / Digital / headphones / Speaker -output
can be chosen with nice on/of buttons , and sliders to set volume for
each independently.

Yeah, I will work my way through the conf files, and see if I can post
back the tested version.

so 3 years after I bought the cards, and Cirrus giving up on their own
product, it is finally becoming the perfect card for PCP builds.
Too bad, they are no longer available to get a few extra.

Hi Paul, I am using the famous Cirrus Logic Audio Card.

Aplay -l lists its as

Code:

card 1: RPiCirrus [RPi-Cirrus], device 0: WM5102 AiFi wm5102-aif1-0 []
  Subdevices: 0/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

And using Alsa Equal in combination with this card is needed in my
situation ; to boost the low frequencies in a portable player.
And as it it truly used portable, manual tweaking after each start when
I need an extra synchronised player is not 'acceptable'

A quick peek in /usr/local/etc/pcp/cards does confirm my card is one of
the most rare exotic ones.
But I assume it can be created now there is a system to recognise and
configure them.
Have you got any tips or templates to build support for this obvious
omission ;-) ?

3.21 introduced a change to automatically set the card number when using
alsaequal. This change assists when cards are detected in different
orders, or you disable the onboard sound after setting up alsaequal.
This will not work if you are manually setting things up. If there is a
card that we don't have a configuration for, then the best thing to do
is to create a config file for your card.

Take a look at /usr/local/etc/pcp/cards

And yes alsaequal locks the output setting on the squeezelite
page..remove alsa equal, or manually edit the config file. It's
been that way since pCP 2.02

Re: [SlimDevices: Unix] Announce: piCorePlayer 3.00

2017-10-22 Thread M-H

Please help me to verify a bug or educate me what I'm missing

Just upgraded from 3.20 to 3.22 via insitu upgrade.
All went well except the to-be-expected omissions in the upgrade.
So after I added the dtoverlay line in /mnt/mmcblk0p1/config.txt again,
I backed up the changes and rebooted with "pcp br" and then
reinstalled the ALSA 10 band Equalizer from the gui.
Then I edited the /etc/asound.conf to point to my card, and tested alsa
output to function OKE , after the Squeezelite restart.
So it works , with the odd soundcard and equalizer as before.
So far no surpises.
But then the changes to /etc/asound.conf can not be retained over a
system reboot.
The backup does work, but it seems the restore is not done properly in
the startup after a boot.
Manually doing a "sudo filetool.sh -r" ( and Squeezelite restart )
proves the change is in the backup, and did not really lost it ;-)

So what am I missing ?

BTW the GUI field Squeezelite ; Output setting : "equal"
is no longer editable, suggesting work done to prevent editing the
needed settings for alsa equal after enabling.

2017-10-21 Thread Caad

Hi.

I "upgrading" from the Squeezebox Touch to PI3 and would like to use pCP
and ran into issues with getting the right USB setup for the Amanero USB
module (connected to ES9018 DACchip).
Are there a guide here in the forum on how to setup the Amanero USB
module correctly or can somebody please share experience with USB setup
/ configuration?

My setup are:
Raspberry Pi3 with pCP3.22 installed. Wifi setup correct and music is
playing from the onboard headphone output.
LMS is running on a mac mini and running latest nightly 7.9.1 build.

Best Regards
Caad

Picore 3.22 + LMS

I built my parents the above setup, put the music on a usb HD and all
was working fine for months.

I took the HD home to rip their new cd's on to the the HD but since
putting the HD back in and rescanning the media lms will only find the
original music and not anything in the new directory's although from
Squeezer, lms, etc can see the directory's but they just say empty.

I built a new sd card bringing picore up to 3.22 from pre v3 as a test
and the problem remains. Three new cd's and some flac, some mp3 none can
be seen. I took a mp3 from a working directory and pasted it in and all
players could see that song but still not the new music. and I have
retested the music on the HD on three pc's and they can all play the
music.

All I can think is some sort of file permission issue that is stopping
picore/lms accessing.any thoughts?

Thanks a lot!!!
