Brandon Grotesque is a license restricted font family by HVD Fonts
distributed by Adobe.

Suggest download and *install locally* for use in LibreOffice one of
these OpenFont Licensed alternatives:

Lato [1]
Josefin Sans [2]
Cabin [3]

With one of these installed, you can also use the LibreOffice Font
'Replacement Table' functions
(found in Tools -> Options -> Fonts) as font replacement for documents
arriving with Brandon Grotesque, or to define
Brandon Grotesque for use in a Para style (even though the font is not
present locally) [4].

[libreoffice-users] question: how can I make the scrollbars wider on LibreOffice?

2024-07-05 Thread Heidi Lasher-Oakes
Hello,
I just subscribed to this forum tonight so I could ask this question.
I am a long-time user of Linux Mint and LibreOffice. I have low vision, so
I use a large default font size and have my default screen magnification
set to 150%. Recently, I did a clean upgrade to Linux Mint 21.3. I was
easily able to adjust the scrollbar width on my browsers, but the
scrollbars in LibreOffice are so narrow that I can barely see them.
Increasing the screen magnification unfortunately doesn't change the width
of the scrollbars. I spent most of the day today working in LibreOffice
Calc, and I must have missed both the vertical and the horizontal
scrollbars hundreds of times. Very frustrating! I have spent the evening
researching fixes for this, but the suggestions I found were all several
years old, and none of them seem to be working on Mint 21.3. Can you
suggest a way to make the scrollbars wider globally across LibreOffice?

Could you install the "Brandon Grotesque" font on your system?  I
imagine LibreOffice would pick it up, if it's a TrueType or OpenType font.

Re: [libreoffice-users] Open form from button

2024-07-03 Thread Robert Großkopf

Hi Edwin,

Is it possible to open to put a button in a form to open a different
form from a linked field?

One possibility:
Create a table "tbl_Filter". Might be you are already using such a table
for only one row. This table should contain a field like "Plant_ID". So
you could save the identifier for the plant in this table.

Open the new form, which depends on a query like this:

SELECT * FROM "MyTable" WHERE "ID" = (SELECT "Plant_ID" FROM "tbl_Filter")

Might be a macro like this helps:

SUB OpenFormPlant(oEvent AS OBJECT)
   oForm = oEvent.Source.Model.Parent
   IF hasUnoInterfaces(oForm, "com.sun.star.form.XForm" ) THEN
  stID = oForm.getString(oForm.FindColumn("ID"))
  oConnection = oForm.activeConnection()
  oSQL_Statement = oConnection.createStatement()
  stSql = "UPDATE ""tbl_Filter"" SET ""Plant_ID"" = '"+stID+"'"
  oSQL_Statement.executeUpdate(stSql)
ThisDatabaseDocument.FormDocuments.getByName("frm_PropagatingPlant").open

   END IF
END SUB

Hi Jarek,

In the last sentence of this page:

https://www.libreoffice.org/download/portable-versions/

There is a link that leads to:

https://portableapps.com/apps/office/libreoffice_portable

Note that this is the "Fresh" version which the Document Foundation
does not recommend for production work. For production the Foundation
normally recommends the more "still" version, currently 7.6.7,
available at that first link above.

[libreoffice-users] Q: configure “Remote Files” to access a SMB share on a Fritzbox

2024-06-26 Thread Albrecht Dreß

Hi all,

I try to access files on the SMB share of a Fritzbox router using the “Remote
Files” in Libreoffice, but unfortunately without success.

From the Linux command line, the following command opens the connection to the
share:

   smbclient -U shareuser --password ** -W WORKGROUP -D Storage
//fritz.nas/my.nas

In Libreoffice, I enter the following data in the “Remote Files” dialogue using
“Add service”:
* Type: Windows share
* Host: fritz.nas
* Share: my.nas
* user and password: as above; enable Remember password
* Root: Storage

Selecting the “Service” entry, the “Remote Files” dialogue is still greyed out,
no folders or LO files are displayed, and all I can do is to click “Cancel”.
No error message or other information is displayed.

My Libreoffice version (installed from Debian Bookworm backports, but I have
the same issue with the official macOS build):
  Version: 24.2.4.2 (X86_64) / LibreOffice Community
  Build ID: 420(Build:2)
CPU threads: 4; OS: Linux 6.1; UI render: default; VCL: gtk3
  Locale: en-US (C); UI: en-US
  Debian package version: 4:24.2.4-1~bpo12+1
  Calc: threaded

How should the Service be configured to access the files on the share? Any
help will be highly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,
Albrecht.

your time reading this, and I'm sorry.

Good afternoon and thank you everyone.
The trick with the Customize menus seems to work. I searched the
available commands and found TWO named "ePub" - they look identical but
have different functions. One is the "export ..." thing already visible,
the other the "Export as ...", which I now added to the contents menu.
Now, THIS problem has been solved. It "works", but Draft2Digitial still
rejects the result, showing me a number of errors. Someone suggested to
upload a .docx file. That does not work either. The publisher INSISTS on
getting an "ePub3" file, but then complains about a million things.
While I do not recall, what exactly I did, I finally got my file
accepted. The publishers (automated) note says "Looks good", but in the
same breath adds: "it would be better to use "ePub2", or else our highly
advertised added services (like adding a TCO, copyright page etc.) will
no longer be available." And the resulting ePub file looks, with all due
respect, like s**t: all same font size, no headings, no TOC, very
strange layout. What the h**l then is the merit of using epub3? Maybe I
should look for a different publisher. Thomas

On my Linux Debian 11 system, running LO 7.5.8, the 'Export as' option is also
missing. However, using your method I was able to add it with one small change.
Because the 'Export as' submenu was missing, in the tools > customize dialog, I
had to click on the 'Insert' button, and select 'Add submenu'. Then I added the
'Export as' submenu, and then added the 'Epub', 'Epub direct', 'PDF', and 'PDF

Thomas,

I too have the options you are looking for, but not sure why. The only
thing I can think is that the option has not been made available on the
File menu. So...

Try going to "Tools" to "Customize" (sorry, I have my interface in
Spanish, but that's what it normally would be) and in the popup for
"Menus", on the right "Categories", list all commands and scroll down.
There should be two EPUBs listed. Hovering over one will show "command:
uno:EportDirectToEBUB", the other simply "command: uno:ExportToEPUB"
(the own you are looking for which offers the options). Then, to the
right under "Destination" choose "File|Export as" from the drop down to
add the option (if not there)*. If it is there, you have just wasted
your time reading this, and I'm sorry.

Best of luck,
Roy

* My versions of LO Writer have in the "File:Export as" destination
come with four options: Export as pdf..., Export directly as pdf,
Export as EPUB..., Export directly as EPUB.

Re: [libreoffice-users] template question.

2024-06-25 Thread LO . Harald . Berger

Hi Chris,

create a real document template in OTT format.

Generate your documents from this and save them as ODT, always!

Use Save as to create DOCX files that you want to pass on.

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Videos/Document_Templates_in_Writer

Find out here why this is the better way and there may otherwise be
compatibility problems:

https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Faq/General/118

I hope you get on with it. Good luck.

Kind regards
Harald

Even though I'm using an older version on linux, 7.3.7.2, I still get all the
options as shown in the image you referenced. And it displays epub3 by default.
So it's strange that your version doesn't have this.

My W10 box has 7.6.6.3, and it too shows the same image with epub3 selected by
default. To get it, I follow this path:  File > Export as > Export as epub ...
and there it is, one of four options - 2 for pdf and 2 for epub.

Curiously, and I hadn't noticed this before, when I use: File > Export ..., I
can see in the file format drop down list an option for export to epub but no
mention of epub3 so I suppose it's epub2.

In the past, before Writer supported a native epub export, we had to install an
extension, Writer2xhtml, which used to work well. In those days, we accessed it by
File > Export and in the resulting dialog box, select file format from the
drop down list { for example: EPUB3 [Writer2xhtml] (.epub) }.

I gave up using this because the extension didn't seem to be maintained for
later versions of LO.  But I also wasn't impressed with the native Writer epub
export either so I now use Sigil with its input extension for importing .odt
files.  This is my preferred work flow these days. With Sigil, you retain
complete control and if you've set up the styles well in Writer, they come out
ok in Sigil. Sigil is a free software tool available for Windows, linux, Mac
(both Intel and arm versions). But like with most things in life, there is a
learning curve.

Another way you could try is to export your document from Writer as a Word
.docx and then let Draft2Digital's converter take the strain.

Don't know what to tell you.

The "File" --> "Export As" --> "Export as EPUB..." entries are present
on the 'Writer' main menu for both a 7.6.7 and a 24.2.4 installs on
Windows I've on hand.

EPub is not an optional extension and the export filter is built-in to

There are two entries for EPUB. One is the dialog (with the ellipsis...)

[libreoffice-users] Export to ePub

2024-06-24 Thread Thomas Blasejewicz

Good afternoon
Windows 10, LO 7.6.6.3
I have published in the past a book in Japanese as an ebook.
Now I have revised it and want to upload the file, but the publisher
(Draft2Digital) tells me, it HAS to be in epub3 for Japanese texts.

Well, I tried to find how to export odt files to epub and the
documentation for 7.6 says:

file:///C:/Program%20Files/LibreOffice/help/en-US/text/shared/01/ref_epub_export.html?DbPAR=SHARED#bm_id3149532
"To access this command... From the menu bar:
"Choose File - Export As - Export as EPUB."
Then there is a link to an image:
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/File:7603EN_Writer_Dialog_EPUBExport.png

Problem:
THAT is NOT what I have on my screen.
Having a choice between epub versions and other options would be great,
but I have only:

Choose File - Export As - Export as EPUB -> choose file + save as epub.
That is all.
If it is possible to get all the options shown in the image
"https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/File:7603EN_Writer_Dialog_EPUBExport.png;
would be a life saver. Maybe.

Currently the publisher does not accept the odt file or an epub file (I
tried a million times also with other software)

Is there a trick to get all those "Export as ..." options?
Thank you.

Search for "soffice". You should find 2 paths and, therefor, 2 files

Click on menus to see which version.

Re: [libreoffice-users] LOBase reports fail

2024-06-24 Thread Robert Großkopf

Hi Harvey,

download the three packages from LO: one for main program, one for
language and one for help.

Unzip this packages in a folder.
Create a folder "my_rpms" in you home directory for the *.rpm-files.
Move all rpm-files from the unzipped packages to "my_rpms".
Start Yast.
Start Software-Repositories
Add "my_rpms" as a repository, folder only without description …
Start "Install Software"
Unistall all the LibreOffice installations, which appear in Yast.
Chose the new version from the new "repository" (your folder).
Install and ignore the warnings "files might be corrupt". It always
apperas for every file in this folder.

In D4 I put
=INDEX(A1:A3,MATCH(C4,$C$1:$C$3),1)
and that displays Two

If I understand what you are looking for. Match returns the row.

Re: [libreoffice-users] vlookup help

2024-06-22 Thread Regina Henschel

Hi James,

James schrieb am 22.06.2024 um 22:12:

I am having trouble with vlookup.
I put a test file at:
https://www.mediafire.com/file/puq9nuu982beicl/vlookup-test.ods/file

The spreadsheet is:
One    $1    1%
Two    $2    2%
Three    $3    3%
current    $2    2%    #N/A

C4 contains =VLOOKUP(B4,B1:C3,2,0) which works.
D4 contains =VLOOKUP(C4,A1:C3,1,0) which displays #N/A but I want it to
display whatever is in column A of the matching row.

"Two" in this case.

VLOOKUP cannot access a column that is before the left-most column of
the lookup-range, and the left-most column of the lookup-range is always
the column, where the value is searched.

Whatenever I change B4, D4 should display the matching row of column A/

This can be done with a combination of MATCH with OFFSET or a
combination of MATCH with INDEX.

For the combination of MATCH with OFFSET you need to add a row of labels
before your data.

  ColA colB ColC
Row1 labelA labelB labelC
Row2 One $1 1%
Row3 Two $2 2%
Row4 Three$3 3%
Row5 current $2 see below

formula in cell C5
=OFFSET(A1; MATCH(B5;B2:B4;0);0)

A1 is the reference cell. To its position OFFSET adds the row difference
and the column difference. MATCH returns 2. Thus the returned value is
from cell column A+0, row 1+2, that is from cell A3.

For the combination of MATCH with INDEX you need no label row.
  ColA colB ColC
Row1 One $1 1%
Row2 Two $2 2%
Row3 Three$3 3%
Row4 current $2 see below

formula in cell C4
= INDEX(A1:C3;MATCH(B4;B1:B3;0);1)
Index uses the position row|col whereby the left-top cell in the
reference area A1:C3 has the position 1|1. Thus position 2|1 is the cell A2.

The upcoming version 24.8 will have a function XLOOKUP. With that
function the lookup range and the return range are separated.

=XLOOKUP(B4; B1:B3; A1:A3)

(My parameter separator is a semicolon. You need to adapt the formulas
to use your parameter separator.)

Kind regards,
Regina

that LibreOffice has already a suitable feature. To be able to help you
finding a tool, you need to describe in more details what do you want to do.

people as well.

I use Libreoffice calc, and it is almost as good as excel. There is an
important feature missing however that I would like to request that you add. In
excel you can make tables, and they are the same throughout all the sheets. You
can use them in drop down lists, and other stuff. It is a very useful feature,
and it's the only thing I think is missing in calc that could make it better
than excel.

So if you read this email, and even take it into consideration for the next
update, I will grateful. I think many other users will be as well.

Thank you for the amazing office suite that you have provided us with for free.

Kind regrads and gratitude,

I think most people reading this are just users just like you and me, so
it's not ”our suite”. You can request new features where bugs are filed,
there's information about that somewhere at http://www.libreoffice.org/.

Very subjective. For me it's the other way around. Excel is missing some
essential features that I need from time to time, so it's all depending on
what you want to do with it. They are both missing features that the other
one has, and some features are better implemented in one of them than the
other and so on.

What are they called in Excel? Just ”tables”? I don't think I ever saw them
and I use Excel at work every day.

and than have a look at:

Thank you.
Somebody else mentioned that too, but ...
in my version (7.6.6.3) I can not see any check box marked "link".
There is a Hyperlink tab, but except for 3 fields on top, the bottom
half of the box is just a plain white area.

And yes, I came to the conclusion to have the images in a dedicated
folder. That I did for some time already.
Apparently now I have to figure out something elegant to move the set of
writer file+image folder around my computers.

I will report when I found something.
And when I find out, whether the ePublishers are satisfied with the results.

Good night for today

However, I remember clearly having given every image a name and save the file

Maybe I found the answer.
The file I was working on and save in regular intervals is located on something
like Dropbox - so that I can access it on my computers at home and in the
office.
Images are inserted using Ctrl+F5, retrieving the images from a folder holding
all the relevant images.
But the image folder is on my local hard drive, whereas the file I am working on is on a
"net drive".
So, maybe the writer file on the netdrive looks for the images, but cannot find
them, since they are on the HDD.
The images themselves DO display just fine.

Do I need ONE folder containing both the writer file AND the image folder to
move around?
What happens when I am finally done and want to store the finished work on my
HDDs?

When you insert an image, the dialogue box where you select the image file has
a small check box (bottom left) marked 'link'. If you want the image to be
integrated permanently into your book text, this link box should NOT be checked.

If you have linked your images (instead of importing them permanently), you can undo
the links using Edit > links to external files > break

The advantage of linking comes if the image is subject to future modification.
In that case, when the image is modified, the document automatically displays
the updated image.

In any case, with a major work like a book, it is good practice and saves a lot
of possible troubles, to keep all the images in a sub-folder of the book
project.

But the ePub-lishers complain, when images have no name etc.

"a subfolder of the Writer Document" - how does that work?
Thank you

Re: [libreoffice-users] Image descriptions not retained

2024-06-13 Thread Robert Großkopf

Hi Thomas,

easiest way is to insert the images into Writer. You could edit this
images with an external tool when inserted into Writer - no problem.

Linked images I would add in a subfolder of the Writer Document. So you
could move the Writer document together with the subfolder to any other
place and the links will work well (relative links).

Maybe I found the answer.
The file I was working on and save in regular intervals is located on
something like Dropbox - so that I can access it on my computers at home
and in the office.
Images are inserted using Ctrl+F5, retrieving the images from a folder
holding all the relevant images.
But the image folder is on my local hard drive, whereas the file I am
working on is on a "net drive".
So, maybe the writer file on the netdrive looks for the images, but
cannot find them, since they are on the HDD.

The images themselves DO display just fine.

Do I need ONE folder containing both the writer file AND the image
folder to move around?
What happens when I am finally done and want to store the finished work
on my HDDs?

Sorry for the trouble

[libreoffice-users] Image descriptions not retained

2024-06-12 Thread Thomas Blasejewicz

Good morning
I am writing / editing a book with a number of images. This is to be
published as ePub.
I did that before and got an error, telling me "image description is
missing".
Used F4 to open the image dialog and entered name and description under
the "Option" tab, then clicked OK.

Now I am working on this file and make sure, every image gets a name and
a description.
However, I remember clearly having given every image a name and save the
file (every few minutes) in my office,
but when I opened the file at home, ALL these names and descriptions are
gone.

May I ask, why that is and if there is something I can do?
This behavior is very annoying and counterproductive.

Thank you
Thomas

Be sure to include the *$* symbol in the Array.

Remember: the Index, *2*, represents the (second) column, which is
referenced to the leftmost column within the (locked) Array, *$A$2:$B$4*.

NOTE: The data in column *A *need not be only a numeric value; the data
may be text also.

=VLOOKUP(A4;$A$1:$B$3;2;0)

The last argument (0) makes VLOOKUP find an exact match to whatever is in A4.
This means that if A4 is empty, or contains a value that does not exist in the
range it will respond with N/A

Re: [libreoffice-users] [SOLVED] Table of Contents, again

No, it was checked. I did that before. Apparently, you DO HAVE to check
it and assign OTHER STYLES than
those of the headings. They are designed to provide some extra space,
font size etc. for chapter headings.

Using them creates a total mess.
Where the inclusion of ALL paragraphs comes from I still have not
figured out.

The solution to my basic problem:
Use / create other paragraph styles, in my case I tried "contents", set
font size, indent etc. and I got a single-spaced TOC.

The LO manual says:
"*Additional styles
*You *_can _*add more paragraph styles to the TOC. This *_can _*be
useful, for example, when you want to include the heading of an annex
(appendix) in the TOC."

Apparently you MUST these extra paragraph styles to make the TOC work.
When I first tried to set up a TOC, clutching the manual, I did not give
that wording a second thought, since there

are a lot of things you "can" but do not have to do.

Well, for the time being I solved the problem, hoping to remember it
until the next time.

Thank you.

It's not clear what you mean by a "reference". I'm guessing you mean
that A4 contains just one of the numbers (1, 2, or 3) that appear in
your list, not a true reference, such as "=A1"? Otherwise the problem
would be trivial.

Is there a calc function which can find which row I chose so I
automatically populate row 4, column B?

Yup. In B4, enter:
=VLOOKUP(A4;A1:B3;2;FALSE)

VLOOKUP() looks for the value in A4 in the first column of the array
A1:B3 (i.e. column A) and returns as its result the corresponding
value in column 2 of the array (i.e. column B). The FALSE parameter
indicates that the values in column A are not necessarily in
ascending order. If you know they are in such order, you can use TRUE
(or omit that parameter); that allows the program to calculate faster
but also means that a value may be returned even if an exact match
does not exist - which I'm guessing you wouldn't want.

Row 4, column A matches one of the rows 1-3...

You may want to look into the detail of how to handle cases where the
value in A4 either does not appear in the list or even appears more than once.

I trust this helps.

Good evening
I had much trouble with TOCs over last few months.
In a few instances I SOMEHOW managed to get almost what I wanted.

Now, working on a different file, completed the ePub version, try to set
up a TOC.
Heading 1 + Heading 2 properly set, as far as I can tell.
Tools -> Heading numbering set properly (I hope).

Still, inserting a TOC that is supposed to show Heading 1 + 2 includes
EVERY paragraph of the entire document.
Working for hour to set this straight, I still "do not get it".

Could someone please point me to the thing that needs fixed.
Thank you
Thomas

Set some paragraphs to "Heading1" and "Heading2". Other paragraphs are
"TextBody".

Set numbering for the headings as decribed above.
Created a TOC.
Couldn't see any other content than Heading1 and Heading2 in Toc.

I don't know what is gowing wrong with your document.

Using LO 24.2.3.2 on OpenSUSE Linux here.

[libreoffice-users] Link Endnote file with LibreOffice Writer

2024-06-04 Thread Lubczynski, Maciek (UT)
Support of LibreOffice Writer,

Following the reply of the Endnote support office (see below), it looks like
the 64-bit LibreOffice 7.6.7 is not compatible with Endnote, correct?.

  1.
Is 32-bit LibreOffice 7.6.7 compatible with EndNote?
  2.
Is LibreOffice (32- or 64-bit) compatible with EndNote?
  3.
If answer to 1 and 2 is NOT, then what do you recommend to link my Endnote file
with LibreOffice Writer?

Thanks in advance,

Maciek Lubczynski (University Twente, The Netherlands)

cannot click the bottom panel. I also cannot install manually the Endnote X9
CWYM file EndNote.oxt - see the declining message in the other screen dump

Does that mean that Libreoffice 7.6.7 is not supported? This is the version
recommended by Libreoffice. If so, will the other Libreoffice version 24.2.3 be
compatible with Endnote?

By the way I have 64-bit machine...

[libreoffice-users] Use of QR/Barcode insertion.

2024-06-03 Thread Michael Tiernan
I'm wondering if I missed something.

In "calc", the "Insert" -> "OLE Object" -> "QR and Barcode" option gives me
a window that allows me to put "text" into the field which it then
generates the graphic from.

Did I miss it? How do I tell it to use the contents of a cell as the source
of the graphic?
(I have generated a series of values that I want to use to create a QR code
for each one.)
Thanks for everyone's time.

Virgil,

Thanks for the reply. I checked my spam folder, no LO there. My expectation
was that when I sen a note to the list for support, I would get a copy back.
That didn't happen so I kept posting. My apologies to anyone offended!

AutoInput only works for cells in the same column. As I tried to explain, the
lists of inputs are in another sheet to keep the input form cleaner looking.

So it looks like a very long scroll bar is the only option for now.

Thanks,
Dave

Re: [libreoffice-users] LibreOffice suite

2024-06-02 Thread aguador
Hi Laura,

Collabora, a LibreOffice contributor, has a LibreOffice based suite for
Android. If you use the PlayStore it is available there
(https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.collabora.libreoffice=en_US
) --with some less than completely positive comments.

Collabora is/was available via f-droid, but it requires some doing from
what I have seen. A quick search will help with that.

Best,
Roy

There is LibreOffice viewer which opens a large spreadsheet quickly, and opened
a .odt table, which was sent to me as .DOCX and converted on my PC. Worth a
try.

I think the problem getting LO to run on android is the lack of people to

Please, please create an office Suite for tablets! I cannot be the only

Thank you

I have found several of your emails in my junk email folder. I find that over
half of all emails from the LO list go to my junk folder.

There are at least 2 emails from you in the public users mailing list;
see the mailing list public archives. I am replying to one of them.

The feature is called "AutoInput". In Calc, you can set it ON/OFF in
menu Tools > AutoInput.

In Calc, if you already have a value in one cell and you want to
repeat the same value in another cell in the same column – it works
better if the range has no empty blank cells in-between, but that's
not a strict condition – then usually the behavior is as you
described.

If you have "coliflour" (without quotation marks) in cell A1, and
something else in cell A2, then in cell A3 you could start typing "c"
(without quotation marks), then a prior (partial) value would be
suggested, instead of having to type-in the complete value each time.

As of current versions, the feature works similar to a bash-like
(auto)completion, but incidentally the feature was modified several
times between LO 7.1 and 7.3, so if you are having problems with this
I would suggest trying a newer version that you currently report
(7.3.7.2).

[libreoffice-users] Libreoffice Calc

2024-05-30 Thread dboland9
For some reason my questions are not getting posted. Hopefully the fourth
attempt works.

Software: LO, Version 7.3.7.2, Linux (Mint)

Problem: I was asked about autocomplete for cells in Calc. My response was to
use a list of cells in Validity. Unfortunately, only a vertical scroll bar is
available, which works fine for short lists, but not so great when the list is
over 1000 cells in another sheet (same file though). I thought that LO Calc
would let one start typing c, o, l and get coliflour. Is there some way to do
this,or is it a feature request?

Thanks,
Dave

[libreoffice-users] Problem in inserting text area in writer

2024-05-30 Thread MGR

Hi !

if you want to attach a text area to a paragraph or to a character
owning to a paragraph starting in previous page, this does not work. If
you attach a text area to a paragraph or a character owning to a
paragraph, the text is attached too to the page where the paragraph
starts. So that if a paragraph is extended to the next page, you cannot
attach the text area to a character owning to the second page. The text
area jumps to the first page of the area.

Best regards.

MGR.

[libreoffice-users] Spreadsheet Print Behavior

2024-05-29 Thread Dave Liesse
Hi, all. I just ran into a problem that has never occurred before, and while I
had a workaround for my immediate need I'm wondering if I'm just overlooking
something.

First, the specs: LO v7.3.4.2, Windows 10 fully up to date.

I have some spreadsheets that a client prepared in Google Docs and converted to
Microsoft Excel before sending to me. I, of course, opened them in
LibreOffice. Because there are a couple of cells out to the right with
information I don't need at the moment, I set a print range. Also set the page
style to print landscape, 1-page width. When I print, though, only the first
page prints. If I also set it to print only 1 page vertically the whole thing
will print but it's too small to read, even with my 20/10 near vision!

Just wondering if this is working as designed (although I would then wonder
why), or if I'm simply overlooking something, or if it's a bug. I've been
working with this particular series of spreadsheets for some time and never had
any problems, although this may be the first time any would have been more than
one page long. I don't recall this problem with any other documents ever,
though.

Dave

[libreoffice-users] Calc auto complete from a list of cells

2024-05-29 Thread dboland9
I was asked how to make an auto complete from a list of cells in another sheet
in the same file. I thought the validation would work, but it only supports a
scroll bar. That is fine for short lists, but not for hundreds of lines. Any
suggestions on how to do this? I have seen it in some apps. I played with
VLOOKUP, but it doesn't return a list. If there is no good way to do this, can
it be a feature request?

Thanks,
Dave

[libreoffice-users] Table of contents problem

2024-05-29 Thread Thomas Blasejewicz

Good evening
I am clutching a printed section of the Writer manual dealing the TOC
... but cannot make it work.
Searching the net, I did find a LOT of things, but the instructions
there "... click xx and there you go" do not seem to work either.

Windows 10, LibreOffice 7.6.6.3
200-page document with heading 1 and heading 2 sections supposed to be
entered automatically into the TOC.
I once HAD it, but removed it, because submitting the file to an ePub
publisher should not have a TOC (that's what their manual said).

Now I am preparing a print version and would like to have it back.
Previously it was a 1.5-page long TOC consisting of said headings.
Now the same TOC is 16 (!) pages long with giant spaces between the
items AND each item is listed twice.
I have been struggling with this for hours on end, but so far nothing I
tried improved things.

If there is a trick to do this, please let me know.

Thank you
Thomas

[libreoffice-users] spell check does not "ignore all"

2024-05-28 Thread Thomas Blasejewicz

And again (sorry!)
Windows 10, Libreoffice 7.6.6.3

I have had this problem for as long as I am using Libreoffice.
But spell checking a 240-page book makes things worse.

During the spell check, the checker comes across words not in the
dictionary and I tell it, to "ignore all".

But the spell checker does not care about that instruction.
It flags the same term as a mistake EACH AND EVERY TIME it is found.
This applies also to the "reverse" = "correct all" option.
It never did that as far as I can remember.

However, it would be very nice and time-saving, if Libreoffice could
listen to the instructions and automate the tasks.

What is is, that I am missing here?

Thank you
Thomas

Re: [libreoffice-users] center images anchored "as character"

2024-05-28 Thread LO . Harald . Berger

Hi Thomas,

create a new paragraph style as an offshoot of Default. The only change
you make in it is the alignment to "Centered".

Once you have anchored your image "As character" (the it is left),
double-click on the new paragraph style to center the image again.

Kind regards

One problem:
I am trying to meet the requirement of having images "in line with

From the publishers instructions:
"For best results, always be sure that your images are aligned “In
Line with Text” and centered."

Well, when I anchor the image "as character" and then try to center
them, the text of the entire book becomes centered.
When I anchor the image "to character", suddenly the captions etc.
appear on the left side and not below, where they are supposed to be.

Anchoring to paragraph make things still worse.

Searching the net, the proposed answer to this problem was "anchor as
character" + center.

What is the trick to center ONLY the image, but not the entire text?

[libreoffice-users] style does NOT display the specified font size

2024-05-28 Thread Thomas Blasejewicz

One more question
(and another coming in a different post)
Again Windows 10, Libreoffice 7.6.6.3

I created a new style based on "default body text".
The style specifies Times Roman, italic, 12 pt size.
However in half or more of the instances where this style is applied, it
shows the font in size 10.5.
The only way I could find to correct that, was to open up the property
dialog and manually change the font size.

And that for over 30 instances.

What was wrong with this style?
The organizer was set to automatically update the style, but obviously
did not do so.

I hope, knowing what was going on will help me with the next book.

Thank you
Thomas

You can use the shortcut Strg+X for "Cut" without menü.

If you press C a second time in the menu, the selection goes to "Delete".

Underline letters depend on language. Which flavor of English do you use?
