Re: [VFB] VFB "The Phoenix Rises" - DonO
You must feel better at 40 pounds lighter, gotta keep moving, stay as lite as possible, and don't smoke! I think everyone has cut back, the real problem isn't the crash of 2008, but if you look at your income for the past 10-12 years it's maybe the same or darn close to it, but the cost of stuff has zipped right up there. The reason fly shops aren't doing well is they carry just the high end stuff so all the new comers go big box. One of my students just outfitted his family of 4 to FF and they did it at Cabelas, his budget was 300 per person and they fished all season, locally out of a tent. Our local shop wanted close to 1000 per person to outfit the same family. When you are funding retirement, college and a mortgage there only so many peso's to spread around. Don I'll have to look through my Indian/British cookbooks so we can trade some recipes Peggy B On 8/21/2011 5:26 PM, Don Ordes wrote: Joyce (and all), I, too, am getting older, but it is dubious that it's also 'wiser'. Re: [VFB] VFB "The Phoenix Rises"
Hi All; In my case, I spend much more time online in winter and early spring, can't do as much outside and I do most of my fly tying during this time of year. I've been fishing at least a dozen times this summer, all warmwater. I've had tremendous success, each outing out my local pond I've caught at least 25 and as many as 100 fish, bluegill, crappie, and Bass. Nothing huge but all on topwater, a size 10 guglepop, and using my SirD bamboo flyrod that Tony and I built together this spring. I find I enjoy this flyrod more and more each time I use it. I still read all the postings, just don't spend as much time online. Really enjoy DonO's flies, always a suprise as to what DonO's going to post next. Re: [VFB] VFB "The Phoenix Rises"
All, I have been a member of the list for years but rarely do I ever post. I used to participate in some swaps but I haven't in a few years. But I always look and read. I am not a big poster. I am not a big computer person. But between work and all, in these days, its a must to work with computers. So I have a computer, use it, subscribe to lists, etc. But I just do not post much. But I do read and learn. So I hope the list is around for awhile.. Ron Boutin Rodger Oleson wrote: > Maybe that's what's happening to the listaging taking a toll. Re: [VFB] VFB "The Phoenix Rises"
Seems there are several of us that open the list first thing in the morning and put it to bed at night. As you do Joyce, I do the same. I wish there was a way for all of us to get together. The closest we have come is at the Sowbug show when we had 37 members there. We had a get together at the show one afternoon. I was presented with a box of flies. Rodger I think you are so right. Since I have had my medical problems I really don't feel like doing any tying or even posting cause I have nothing to say. Maybe I should push myself a bit. I have a rod to get finished for a list member that was ordered almost a year ago. I just can't find the energy to work in it. It is just about finished but I just can't seem to get to it.When I get one of these spells, I am not good to do anything for several weeks. I had one a few weeks ago. Just like your WRD's, It would only take me a few minuets to get them tied but I just keep forgetting about it. When I get them sent to you, I will trade you for a popper. I still tie for a few swaps and when I want to try something I've seen or heard about, but that doesn't keep me from opening my mail and quickly going to the VFB incoming box. So are we all getting to old to participate? Hate to think so because my doc told me the other day "you're still a young man".(Silly doc!!) Not that I ever feel veryfrisky for sure, but it's sad that I have so little input for the list. I certainly do enjoy having the VFB list to look forward to every day. I know very few folks on here but feel like I've made some great acquaintances who would be close friends if we had the opportunity to meet. Hope we can keep the list active for many more years. I'm not the great "experimenter" that DonO is, but I've been enjoying cutting out foam popper bodies and shaping them with my homemade dremel lathe set up. Not gonna go into full-fledged commercial production or anything like that. I can make popper bodies in several sizes though if anyone is interested. If I have the foam flip flops of the color you want I can send you a few to examine/try out. I can make 1/8",5/32"3/16",7/32"1/4",5/16",3/8" & 1/2" diameter bodies that are a bit smaller when turned down and will be about the length of the thickness of a flip-flop. I think after a while there is not much to say so things slow down quite a bit. Don, and Jimmy have really tried to keep things going but we still slowed down. I have not mentioned on the list but I am having some medical problems for the past three years so I have not been posting much about tying or fishing.
