Re: Epub files that I need to put in IBooks

2012-09-12 Thread Damashe Thomas
Placing them in dropbox, opening the bookin the dropbox app on your phone and
tapping the export button at the bottom right of the screen will do it. Since
you have so many, you may want to import them in to iTunes.Do the following,
open itunes
open the file menu and arrow down to the add file item. If all the books are in
one folder you could select the add folder option below add file.
Which ever one you choose, select the file or folder you want to add to iTunes.
Select the open button and you should hear the tri tone indicating that the
import is complete.
Make sure that you have books selected to sync to your device.
Perform a sync and your books should be in iBooks.
An added note, the e-pub files must be unprotected, so not from somewhere like
amazon, B&N or books-a_million.

Hi all,
So, what do you all think of iPhone 5?
How many of you are going to upgrade?
For me personally, since I am upgrading from an iPhone 4, I think it is
worth the upgrade.
What with Siri, the faster processor, three microphones LTE and maps
features-thigns you won't get on the 4 with IOS 6.
What are peoples thoughts?

Re: iPhone 5

2012-09-12 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
The iPhone 5 sounds pretty nifty. However I am perfectly happy with my
4S right now so will be keeping it for a bit. My wife is considering the
jump from the Galaxy Android to the iPHone 5 and she's eligible for the
upgrade right now. So, we'll see. If I get desperate enough I'll have
her the the 5, then I'll give her my 4S, and keep the 5 for myself. I
love that AT&T uses sim cards.

RE: iPhone news

2012-09-12 Thread Tess
Lol, I have a nice Iphone 4 64 Gig that I am trying to get rid of lol... It
isn't a 4s, just a plane 4., but still.

Yes, there will be a flood of unlocked iPhone 4 phones becoming available as
people's 2-year contract expires and they are allegeable for the new iPhone
as well as an official unlock from AT&T. However, keep in mind that an
unlocked iPhone 4 32 Gig will most likely be as expensive or very close to
as expensive as a 32 Gig new iPhone 5. Somebody just posted an ad for an
iPhone 4 32 Gig in very good condition and they were asking $260. $299 will
get you a brand new iPhone 5 32 Gig with warranty so unless I had a very
good reason to need an unlocked phone I'd have little difficulties to spend
$40 more and get the latest and greatest with warranty over something
without warranty that is 2 years old. His iPhone 4 maybe in mint condition,
however, no battery will be in mind condition after 2 years and you also
will not get all of the new iOS 6 features with an iPhone 4, SIRI alone is
worth it to get a new phone.

I don't think I understand the complaint here. If you are looking for more
space and you are not interested in the other features, look for a gently
used iPhone 4 or 4S. You might even be able to get one from the carrier, but
either way look around because you will find them out there. Hey contact
APple you never know they may have some refurbished units available,
although I have no idea if they sell referred iPhones or not.
Fact is you want to play you gotta pay.

RE: iPhone news

2012-09-12 Thread Tess
Yeah, I bought the 4S 64 gig, pondering to sell the thing and go for the 5
depending on what is in the 5 that I really want. If there isn't much in the
5, then I will hold onto my 4S.

Paul,

The good news is that if storage is not an issue for you, i.e. 8 Gig is
enough, it appears you will be able to get an iPhone 4S with 8 Gig of
storage for only $99 which will still give you SIRI. I still think spending
the $100 more and get an iPhone 5 with 16 Gig is well worth it, but that is
just me. After all, the real cost is in the monthly plans not in the $99,
$199 or $299 to uy the thing, well maybe the $299 or $399 for the 64 Gig
does add up. Anyhow, I can see where the 8 Gig iPhone 4S could be an
attractive option for people who are fairly invested in accessories such as
cables, docks, cases etc. But at the same time I am sure we'll see lots of
adapters soon to go from the new smaller dock connector to the traditional
30-Pin connector. It's also nothing new that you have to spend a minimum of
a couple of hundred bucks to get the latest iPhone, it's been like that for
the 4 and the 4S and probably for the 3GS, but that was before my time.

Also be careful when buying an I-Phone 4, these things do have a battery
life, and I recall reading somewhere it is between 400 and 500 charges. This

means that if a person has a phone for say two years, the likelyhood of it's

lasting for another two years is questionable I believe.

I'll be buying a new phone to replace my 3GS, but I'm not sure yet if
it will be a 4S or a 5. Obviously the faster CPU and the form factor
are nice things to have, but I'm not sure if those will justify the
price difference between a 5 and a used or even new 4s.

Focus 40 Blu braille Display and iBooks

2012-09-12 Thread jesse
Hi everyone,

I am using a Focus 40 Blu with my iPad 3 but I'm sure any braille
display user might be able to help with this issue. When I'm reading a
book, the braille automaticly jumps back to the top of the screen and
lands on the Library button. It doesn't do this with all books but the
ones it does happen with are unreadable. Even switching pages doesn't
help. It just interupts the reading and goes to the Library button.
Has anyone else encountered this issue? If so, is there a fix?

Thanks,

Jesse

It's not out until September 19.

You need to update iTunes when it tells you too, though. It's supposed to have
support for iOS 6. That comes out today.

There is a much bigger update in October, as well.

Re: Anyone find out yet whether AT&T Is Going To Charge More for 4G?

You can bet AT&T will charge for the LTE (or 4G) service. I would bet that
phones by default connect to 3G and if you want the LTE speeds you would have
to request that through the carrier. I sure would not be happy to be paying the
same cost as you and you get faster speeds. :)

You know at this point RIch I think I'll be waiting. I'm fine with my 4S and to
be honest I'm a little displeased with AT&T's practices with respect to those

Maybe a small thing, but it is the principle of the matter. I guess if I really
just have to have that phone I could always switch to another carrier and give
my kid my phone or more likely my wife since she would use the data more than
my kid.
However, think I'll go check one out first.

Unless things are going to be different for the apple devices, 4g will
not cost extra. Currently, at least for devices that support LTE,

Hi all,
So, what do you all think of iPhone 5?
How many of you are going to upgrade?
For me personally, since I am upgrading from an iPhone 4, I think it is
worth the upgrade.
What with Siri, the faster processor, three microphones LTE and maps
features-thigns you won't get on the 4 with IOS 6.
What are peoples thoughts?

I agree, not worth it upgrading from a 4s unless you're really due for your
upgrade. The 5 sounds nice but it will be next year for me as I also have a
4s and very happy with it. I'll wait for the 5s or whatever they decide to
call it.

The iPhone 5 sounds pretty nifty. However I am perfectly happy with my 4S
right now so will be keeping it for a bit. My wife is considering the jump
from the Galaxy Android to the iPHone 5 and she's eligible for the upgrade
right now. So, we'll see. If I get desperate enough I'll have her the the 5,
then I'll give her my 4S, and keep the 5 for myself. I love that AT&T uses
sim cards.

It's an easy decision for me. I have an 8gb 4 and an IPod Touch 3 with 64mb

Regards,
Sieghard

I would have to agree, after reading all this hype about the 5, it just
isn't worth going out and spending hundreds of bucks. I can download the IOS

Personally the 5 was just a makeup job on the phone itself, nothing so grand

Just my humble opinion of course.
Still, 4S has worked fantastic for me, no battery issues or anything, and I

Re: Focus 40 Blu braille Display and iBooks

2012-09-12 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, Jessie,

The Library button is at the top of the screen. If you use the wheel to scroll
down a fw lines, you will get to the text.

It isn't the fastest way to do things, but I've gotten used to it. Sometimes I
can get the Braille to resume on the top of the next page, but I don't count on
it.

Yes, every iOS6 device will get the new maps. The turn-by-turn directions
and the fly-over features will only be available on the 4S, iPhone 5, new

RE: Focus 40 Blu braille Display and iBooks

2012-09-12 Thread Carrie Snodgrass
Jesse,
I have had that happen a few times, and it's frustrating! I've found that
if I click on Library, using the Focus touch cursors, and then select the
book that I'm reading, it takes me back to the book with no further issues.
It seems like it's some kind of glitch that only occurs occasionally, as I
think it's happened to me three times in the last year. In any case,
clicking on Library has resolved the problem for me.

That's sort of what I was thinking to. It'd be just like them to ketch

questions regarding ios 6 updating process

2012-09-12 Thread Marissa
I have a few questions:

1. I have an Iphone 4 that no longer has service ince I upgraded to the 4s,
seeing as the Iphone 4 is running ios 5 is there a way to connect that
phone to itunes and update it to ios 6 when that software is relased?

2. does anyone know itunes backs up text messages when crating a backup of
an iphone?

3. Does anyone think that the siri and voiceover conflicts will be resolved
in ios 6

Thanks

Re: questions regarding ios 6 updating process

2012-09-12 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

You can definitely connect your iPHone 4 to iTunes and update the OS; it works
just like it did when you used it as a phone except that the phone features
don't work - Wi-fi and iTunes work normally. And yes, if you back up your phone
before updating and then choose to restore with that backup during the update
process when asked, text messages will be copied to the backup and restored to
your phone.

Best,
Anna

Hi,

If you have iOS5 on your 4, then you'll get an alert (when 6.0 comes out)
that a new software is ready.

It is just a new name for the new headset which will come with the iPhone 5
and the iPod Touch 5 devices. It is also available for $30 or $35 as a
separate purchase if you want to use it with your existing iDevice.
Apparently it's better quality with a larger remote.

RE: Fleksy I think has a problem.

2012-09-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Reggie,

Fleksy is designed to do this if you use the email function. The way it
works is that whatever you write as your first line of text is automatically
used as the subject line. The trick is to insert a new paragraph (2 new
lines) between what you want your subject to be and your main email text. I
think it's 2 new lines, maybe 1 will do, but I know for sure it works with
2. There is also a setting in "Settings" "Fleksy" where you can indicate as
to whether you want to repeat that subject line as your first line of text
in the message body. I personally turn this off because I don't see a reason
why I'd want to repeat the subject as the first line of my message.

Now when sending email from Fleksy, it takes part of the first line, puts it
in the subject and does not repeat it as the first line of the email but
just continues the first line of the email with the next word where the
subject cut it off. Anyone notice this?

SIRI worked fine for me part of today, there are definitely outages, but I
attribute that to the upcoming release of iOS 6 which will be publically

off Siri? I am getting no response. It is not even that she doesn't
understand. She is just plain gone. Dumb question, but in my defense, I
always dialed my own numbers when Siri went on strike. Is there a way I can
use my contacts? I hear the snickers! Just have not done that particular
thing, actually not dialing or using Siri. So, I need to learn. There must
be some way to do this. Everything else works with contacts. Thanks from the

RE: Creating a US apple account

2012-09-12 Thread Jonathan Mosen
It's very easy to do if you just want free apps. I have accounts in the US,
UK and my home country of New Zealand stores. Using a VPN service such as
Witopia, I can access geo-restricted content such as is often found in many
media apps.

The trick is to use iTunes to go to the store in which you want to create
the account, then try to buy a free app. You can create an account from this
point and skip the credit card section.

There are ways to handle paid apps, but it's more complex and not without
risk.

RE: iPhone 5

2012-09-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Raul,

Yes, they use SIM cards, but the iPhone 5 is now going to an even smaller
SIM card called a Nano SIM. I assume that you could probably cut a Micro SIM
to the size of a Nano SIM just like you can cut a regular size SIM to the
size of a Nano SIM.

Sieghard

The iPhone 5 sounds pretty nifty. However I am perfectly happy with my 4S
right now so will be keeping it for a bit. My wife is considering the jump
from the Galaxy Android to the iPHone 5 and she's eligible for the upgrade
right now. So, we'll see. If I get desperate enough I'll have her the the 5,
then I'll give her my 4S, and keep the 5 for myself. I love that AT&T uses
sim cards.

RE: iPhone 5

2012-09-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Ben and List,

I think the 4S 16 Gig which on contract will be available for $99 is
definitely an attractive option, you can save $100 over the 16 Gig iPhone 5
which is at $199. Now, is the iPhone 5 worth an extra $100? Well, if I came
from a 3GS or 4 I would probably say yes, having a 4S 64 Gig I feel the same
as Raul, there are just not enough hardware reasons for me to upgrade at
this time. Instead I may actually consider buying an iPod Touch 5 again,
this way I can see how I like the larger screen size and now that the iPod
Touch gets SIRI and has a 5 MP auto focus back camera which is actually a
better camera than even the 4 if I understand this correctly it's definitely
worth considering. It would be the device I'd use at home for audio books
and other stuff or even for a long flight it would make sense with 40 hours
of audio playback. I also like the thought of the wrist loop and the
reverseable 9-PIN connector. Of course I will probably wait until I know
what the deal is with the iPad Mini which is expected to be announced around
mid October.

Regards,
Sieghard

I'll be buying a new phone to replace my 3GS, but I'm not sure yet if it
will be a 4S or a 5. Obviously the faster CPU and the form factor are nice
things to have, but I'm not sure if those will justify the price difference
between a 5 and a used or even new 4s.

Cheers,
Ben.
