Two Perplexing Calendar Issues

2012-12-18 Thread Eric
First, calendar events do not always show. I have two active calendars, and
often times I will not see any schedule events. However, if I go to the month
at the top of the calendar and go back and month and then forward to the
current month, events will show up. I can look at and events details and then
go back to month view and again will see no further events in the month,
including the one I just reviewed. I have to again go back a month and forward
to the current month to see events populate.

Second, I have somehow ended up with multiple entries of events. For instance,
I have February 2 as ground hog day recorded 11 times. I am unable to erase any
of these occurrences. I edit the event and delete it, including all future

If the iPad Mini is a WiFi model only it should be the same. If it is a

I live in the UK and was wondering if I received an iPad Mini which was

the UK model? I know the charger would be different, but would the iPad Mini
unit itself be identical?

Many thanks.

Try double-tap and hold, then slide up and down. Sometimes this works better.
Once you're in the vicinity, you should be able to flick up or down again. If
that doesn't help, try turning the phone off and on.

Best,

2012-12-18 Thread David Chittenden
During a call, move VO focus to another field to stop the call timer
announcement. When you move VO focus, VO will remember which field to have its
focus on during the next call.

I got a super deal at Amazon on the Blue Ant and I specifically wanted a
single earpiece since I need one ear free to connect with the world around me.
I think I am mostly happy with this earphone.
 Pros:
It is very comfortable. I can wear it almost all day and it doesn’t bug me.
This is pretty important since my ear has some nerve damage from a severe
case of shingles 2 years ago.
It was very easy to pair up with the iPhone 5. It pretty much did it by
 itself.
A full charge on the battery lasts pretty well throughout the day.
You can answer a call by just saying answer or ignore when the phone rings.
You can hear all the music and voice over comments from the phone.
The sound quality seems pretty good to me but I am not an expert.

 Cons:
It does not have control over the music app through the headset as the Apple
earpods do. When you press the answer button it says”Please say a command”.
To get to Siri you say “phone commands” and after the earphone wastes time
saying Connecting the built in voice system of your phone you finally get to
 her.
But you can only give commands that do not require a second response since
you can’t press and hold the answer button to get her back. So I can call a
contact or tell Siri to play Christmas music or whatever but you can’t use
the headset to skip ahead in the music or stop it. But when you press and
hold the answer button the earpiece says reloading contact list. Evidently
it loads the contact list so it can announce the incoming calls.
The sound quality is good although the mic picks up all surrounding sounds as
I guess they all do. My husband complains when I talk to him on either the
Blue And or the Apple Ear Pods since he has hearing difficulties and it makes
too much background noise for him. He tells me to stop doing what I am doing
 and be still.

So mostly I am very happy with the Blue Ant. I do have to learn how to stop
all the voice over commands during a phone call, though, since the VO volume
seems to be louder than the phone volume and it is difficult to hear the
caller when VO is talking. I am still having issues with VO announcing the
minutes and other things. It is a bit of a pain to have to unlock the phone
during the call and try to find the end button. Focusing on this does not
 usually stop the announcements, though.

But I think this last is an IPhone issue and not an earphone issue.
I did try lowering the VO volume but when a call came in the announcements
during the call were still louder than the caller.

Re: iPad Mini

2012-12-18 Thread Neil Barnfather - TalkNav
Barbra,

Both the WiFi only and WiFi + Cellular models of the iPad Mini are identical.
We do not get the USB micro adaptor as Ricardo queried…. Owing to Apple using
their own proprietary connectors.

The iPad 3rd generation did have a difference between the WiFi + Cellular
models between the UK and USA. However, the frequencies have been standardised
for the iPad Mini and indeed iPad 4th generation.

The only thing possibly to watch out for is if you were to get an iPad
specifically for a none GSM network if purchasing a +cellular model. That would
you see not work on networks here.

The model though is otherwise physically identical.

apps in the international locations

2012-12-18 Thread Tara Prakash

Dear all.

If your app store account is a US account, and if you download an app using it
in the US, is it possible that the app will not work in the international
locations. Last time I was traveling abroad, there were few news related apps
that were not updating contents. It included NFB newsline. Could I have done
something for them to work as usual. I remember I had problems downloading new
free apps from the US app store. The phone automatically threw out of the US
app store when I was using the Internet connection in a different country.

Please let me know what should I keep in mind, as I may be traveling again soon.

Wireless mini bluetooth keyboard with a difference.

2012-12-18 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
Hello.

I for sometime have been looking for a mini bluetooth wireless keyboard for my
I phone. However, all the small keyboards that I have bought and have been
dissatisfied with, have a flaw. The command and option keys do not work like
the Apple Wireless Bluetooth keyboard that I have. I need a small keyboard so
that I can put it in my bag as I'm out all day at work or travelling about as I
want to copy and paste on the move. Does anyone know a good keyboard which
will work like the Apple Wireless Bluetooth keyboard please? I can't take my
Apple keyboard with me due to it being rather big for my bagg. I do take my
braille display with me some times but don't want to use it all the time.

Hope some one can help and if so, please put in the link for the blue tooth
keyboard please. I mainly buy on Amazon.

Perhaps you can write to me off list so as not to clutter any mailboxes.

Thanks in advance.

Kawal.

help me troubleshoot high data usage with ATT

2012-12-18 Thread Cris
Hello Folks,
I have been dealing with a serious problem with unusually high data usage,
eversince I upgraded my iPhone 4S to IOS six. Every month, I use all of my
data plan in the first two or three days of the month, even though I rarely
ever use my phone outside my house. At home I use my own wifi connection.
Last month my entire data plan was eaten up in the first day of the month. I
turned celular data off to avoid being overcharged, but the problem with this
solution is that I can never get my voicemail messages unless I turn the
celular back on. This month I am already over sixty percent of my data
although I made sure not to do anything on my phone outside the house other
than just answering my phone calls. Needless to say that I still have over two
weeks before my new month starts. Does anyone with ATT have similar problem?
Is this a problem with my phone or a problem with ATT system?

I did everything I could to troubleshoot this problem to no avail. I even
restored the phone twice, and no improvement. If anyone has any suggestions to
help me troubleshoot this problem, I will appreciate it.

Cheers,

Cris

Re: help me troubleshoot high data usage with ATT

2012-12-18 Thread Lois Butterfield
Hi Chris,

I know that maps uses all kinds. I found that I can never use that unless I
get way more data a month.

Since I learned that, I haven’t had a problem.

Have you checked to make sure you are really connected to your Wifi? There was
a time aftr one of the upgrades when I couldn’t maintain a connection. That
also caused big problems.

Goood luck.

Subject: help me troubleshoot high data usage with ATT

Cheers,

Cris

Re: Skype opinions: Mac or iPhone

2012-12-18 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi,

in general, I believe most, if not all apps are easier on the iPhone. This is
just do to the scale down nature of the apps. I don't think the skype app for
the Mac is hard to use mind you, its just more to learn as far as navigating to
get where you want to go. If just wanting to quickly make a skype call,
definitely the iPhone app. But, the more complex the task, I lean towards the
Mac app.

Hi David,

I can definitely confirm that this does not work for me on my 4

some people experience and others do not. When I am on a call Voiceover at
some point starts announcing the time every 20 seconds. I also have to
unlock the phone and move focus away from that, but it does not stay focused
away from that and happens in every phone call.

I got a super deal at Amazon on the Blue Ant and I specifically wanted a
single earpiece since I need one ear free to connect with the world around
me.

I think I am mostly happy with this earphone.

Pros:

It is very comfortable. I can wear it almost all day and it doesn't bug me.

Cons:

It does not have control over the music app through the headset as the
Apple earpods do. When you press the answer button it saysPlease say a
command.

To get to Siri you say phone commands and after the earphone wastes time
saying Connecting the built in voice system of your phone you finally get to
her.

But you can only give commands that do not require a second response since
you can't press and hold the answer button to get her back. So I can call a
contact or tell Siri to play Christmas music or whatever but you can't use
the headset to skip ahead in the music or stop it. But when you press and
hold the answer button the earpiece says reloading contact list. Evidently
it loads the contact list so it can announce the incoming calls.

The sound quality is good although the mic picks up all surrounding sounds
as I guess they all do. My husband complains when I talk to him on either
the Blue And or the Apple Ear Pods since he has hearing difficulties and it
makes too much background noise for him. He tells me to stop doing what I am
doing and be still.

RE: Router and Iphone

2012-12-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Marissa,

I just bought 2 new Netgear FVS318N ProSave routers for my business and home
and also had issues. I spend quite a bit of time on the phone with Netgear
support since my initial attempt to upgrade the router to the latest
firmware didn't seem to help much, either. The support agent then told me
that they recommend that after the upgrade one should reset the router to
factory settings and for me that did the trick. Most routers should have a
backup function so what I ended doing is to back up all the custom settings
I had, then I re-installed the router firmware update, I then reset the
router and after it had rebooted I restored the settings from my backup
file.

Apart from this the Netgear support guys also told me that there was
definitely a bit of a connection issue with devices running iOS 6.0 and
6.0.1 but that it was something Apple has to address which apparently they
are in the process of doing.

I know from the Today in iOS Podcast that iOS 6.1 Beta 3 came out last week
and Rob predicted that this would be the last Beta which means we should see
the update soon. I guess with Christmas around the corner it maybe in early
or mid January, but I doubt it would be much later than that.

How old is your router? If it is relatively old and you are considering
buying a new router I would suggest you look at the new Western Digital
routers, they have some pretty high-end ones, I have always been partial to
Netgear product although I would not recommend the ones I bought. They are
in their small business category, they are robust and have the capability to
create a VPN tunnel between the 2 units (at my house and my business) which
is why I bought them. This way I am basically on the local network at my
store when I am at home and can access my computers and data, but for home
use there are better and less expensive choices out there.

RE: help me troubleshoot high data usage with ATT

2012-12-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Chris,

It sounds to me like you have a rogue app which uses tons of data. Do you
use Apple's Podcaster app? It apparently used up huge amounts of data, one
should think that something from Apple is more sophisticated, but just as
their maps app, Podcaster is not yet where it should be. I suggest you do a
factory restore, make sure you turn Ad Tracking and stuff like that off, but
don't install any apps for a few days. Monitor your data and if you still
use tons of data then there has to be something wrong with your phone's
hardware. If you don't use much data then start putting back your apps, but
do it a couple at a time and give it a few days in between and see if you
can track down the culprit that way.

Subject: help me troubleshoot high data usage with ATT

Hello Folks,

I have been dealing with a serious problem with unusually high data usage,
eversince I upgraded my iPhone 4S to IOS six. Every month, I use all of my
data plan in the first two or three days of the month, even though I rarely
ever use my phone outside my house. At home I use my own wifi connection.
Last month my entire data plan was eaten up in the first day of the month.
I turned celular data off to avoid being overcharged, but the problem with
this solution is that I can never get my voicemail messages unless I turn
the celular back on. This month I am already over sixty percent of my data
although I made sure not to do anything on my phone outside the house other
than just answering my phone calls. Needless to say that I still have over
two weeks before my new month starts. Does anyone with ATT have similar
problem? Is this a problem with my phone or a problem with ATT system?

I did everything I could to troubleshoot this problem to no avail. I even
restored the phone twice, and no improvement. If anyone has any suggestions
to help me troubleshoot this problem, I will appreciate it.

Cheers,

Cris

Re: Skype opinions: Mac or iPhone

2012-12-18 Thread BBS
Hi Christine. It's not a question of which version of Skype is easier,
but how you're going to use it. Like for instance, on both Mac and
iPhone, there are several things you can and can't do. On the Mac, if
you are planning to set up voicemail, you can't check them with the
Skype client on the Mac but you can on the iPhone. On the iPhone you
can't delete all your recent history but on the Mac you can. I'm sure
others can chime in on this subject but that's what I've noticed.

RE: Skype opinions: Mac or iPhone

2012-12-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Christine,

As some others pointed out already, Skype works well on both platforms, I am
actually a PC user so I can't comment on the Mac. I use Skype on the PC more
than on my iPhone because I am usually working on the computer so having
Skype running in the background is no problem. I do prefer to use instant
messages on the PC and I would assume it's the same on the Mac because if
you do end up sending instant messages back and forth it just is easier and
faster to type on the computer although I am not sure how easy it is on a
Mac to do stuff like read through previous messages or to review a message
that was sent 5 messages ago word by word or maybe to copy and paste text
from an IM.

Adding a person, for example, I almost prefer to do on the iPhone, it's very
simple and straight forward.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi Shawn,

I don't know exactly what you mean by delete all your recent history, but
you can delete Recent items on the iPhone. If you mean can you delete the
entire history then you are correct, you can't do that on the iPhone. But
you can delete individual conversations. You can do this by going to the
Recents tab, then double tap on the Edit button at the top left of the
screen. Now a Delete, switch button appears beside each
conversation/history item and you can double tap it, then double tap to
confirm.

During a call, move VO focus to another field to stop the call timer

Re: Router and Iphone

2012-12-18 Thread Katey Glass
Hello All,

I see that this says router iPhone, however, my fiancé and I both have iPads
running iOS 6.01 and we have an older Lynksys wrt54g router and we never seem
to loose connection with it. The only time we ever seemed to have a loss of
connection is when we had a friend over who was also using an iPad and we all
were trying to play Uno on RS Games. Then we'd get thrown off the server but
none of us seemed to lose Internet connectivity.

I have a iPhone 4S and I connect it to the router to get my podcasts and to
back it up at night and then again, I don't see it losing connectivity. So,
how do you all know you are losing internet?

I guess I shouldn't worry as things are working as they should. Also, I may
mention we do live in an extremely small apartment so, maybe it's because we
are close to the router which I'd purchased in 2007 when I got my Icon.

Thanks,

Answering a Skype Call on iPhone (was RE: Skype opinions: Mac or iPhone)

2012-12-18 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Hi Mickey, what makes a big difference here, at least for me, is to go into
Notification Center, choose alert Style, and set it to alert, the default
is banner. That way, when an incoming call comes in, you get a dialog that
pops up with an answer button at the bottom. The one down side to this, and
I wish Skype could separate the two somehow, is that you also get an
interupting pop-up when someone instant messages you.

that on the iPhone. But you can delete individual conversations. You
can do this by going to the Recents tab, then double tap on the Edit
button at the top left of the screen. Now a Delete, switch button
appears beside each conversation/history item and you can double tap
it, then double tap to confirm.

Unwanted Call duration announcement, was: Bought the Blue Ant wireless headphone

2012-12-18 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It is a small bug that was introduced with iOS 6 just as it is a bug that I
can bearly hear Voiceover if I try to dial numbers during and active call
with the call switched to speakerphone. I didn't have either problem before
iOS 6 so I doubt it's something Apple would replace my phone for. It is also
clear from posts I have seen on Viphone that a small number of people have
this problem and as far as Voiceover volume relative to call volume is
concerned Apple Accessibility support told me as much. I am sort of hoping
that maybe they will fix at least the VO volume problem as it is annoying to
have to use headphones every time I have to dial a bunch of numbers during a
call.

I would take it to Apple in that case as that is not normal behaviour.

Hi David,

I can definitely confirm that this does not work for me on my 4

some people experience and others do not. When I am on a call Voiceover at
some point starts announcing the time every 20 seconds. I also have to
unlock the phone and move focus away from that, but it does not stay focused
away from that and happens in every phone call.

During a call, move VO focus to another field to stop the call timer
announcement. When you move VO focus, VO will remember which field to have
its focus on during the next call.
