If you going to settings, visual, there's a switch display by page. Turn the switch off. Read to go will read continuously to the end of each chapter. Re: An Unusual Way to Turn on the iPhone 5
Thanks all for this unusual tidbit of info! I find that turning my iPhone 5 on via the normal procedure can be irritatingly delaying and will use this unorthodox method whenever I have access to a charger now. Viber making or receiving calls
Hello all I plan to have a chat to a good friend on Viber over the weekend. Since this app is now accessible as far as I am concerned how has your experience been with making and receiving calls? When I enquired with Viber themselves they say that speakerphone isn't supported but they would look into it. But this was for an earlier version. I can get around this, however is VoiceOver active during a Viber call? Because if so, I will have to use headphones just so I don't accidentally do anything stupid to the phone. Any comments will be greatly appreciated. Creating a label is easy, just click on Edit Labels, then find the edit field where you can type the new label name and then click Save. Once you have a label, for example, Viphone, you then set up a filter. All you have to do is find the Create Filter link. Here you can choose to filter mail with a certain From address or a certain subject. Then a number of actions are listed which you can perform. One of these is to apply a certain label. If you want all mail from the Viphone list to have the Viphone label, then first put viphone@googlegroups.com in the From address, then click the button Next Step. On the next page check the checkbox Apply the label, then from the combo box of available labels select the Viphone label and click Create Filter. That's it, now any emails coming from viphone@GoogleGroups.com will automatically get the label Viphone which is equivalent to them being moved into a Viphone folder. As Raul pointed out, on the iPhone, the labels appear as folders provided you have setup your gmail account correctly by having selected Gmail as the account type. Comparing Prizmo 2 and Text Grabber using the StandScan pro and a more complicated layout.
Hallo, i hope I am not boring you all to death! However, with the latest incarnations of prizmo 2 and Text Grabber, I am looking to find their various strengths. Without a doubt, I still like the immediacy of the TG interface and often find it perfectly adequate to the task. However, when I tried a comparison shot taken from a magazine page, with 2 columns and with the added difficulty of a headline situated in the centre, displacing the text to either side, I discovered that Text Grabber got seriously confused and pplanted a sackfull of carots half way down each column. Whereas, Prizmo 2 did an excellent job! I can only deduce from this that Prizmo 2 still has the better, that is, more sophisticated, OCR engine. For letters etc, there is nothing to choose between them, but when you need more intelegent OCR functionality, I must say that prizmo 2 is the one to use. Happy scanning, and here, as always, is an offering, this time from Prizmo 2. Temping in the city in my college holidays for me means three things: easy money, a relief from Cambridge stress and jobs which usually involve no more mental strain than thinking of what to wear the next day. Yet one night, sitting on the commuter coach, ploughing through the rush hour traffic, out of London and into the suburbs, I began to wonder what temping meant for others. I had noticed immediately that most of the temping agencies were staffed by women. These seemed to be wellpresented, attractive girls in their mid twenties with pleasant manners who dealt with temps as they applied for work. There were rarely men doing these jobs; instead, the male members of staff seemed in managerial positions or would go out to companies in which temps worked, in order to liaise with clients. The majority of temps, too, were women. They ranged from twenty year old secretaries bored with their previous employment to forty year old mothers returning to work when children were of school age, but despite this variation they were predominantly assigned to low-scale clerical and secretarial positions. In most cases this meant that female temps were either directly or indirectly subordinate to men, thus reinforcing the office bimbo image of working women and the stereotypical image of the female temp. What is even more damaging than this image is the reality of the temp's working situation. In a temporary assignment, unlike a permanent job, there is little room for promotion, so the women who temp are often left with little chance to develop their skills, even though these might already be quite substantial, l also came into contact with women who had excellent educational qualifications which were not utilised in their temping jobs. One girl l met, Natalia, temping while travelling, had an excellent university degree, yet was still placed in a low scale clerical position, subordinate to male supervisors with half her skill and intelligence. This was not the only type of discrimination. In one company l was assigned to, working in the share issues department of a large bank, there was a fairly even mix of male and female temps, mostly students. Even on the job the male temps were placed in the more prestigious positions whereas the girls were confined to filing, sorting and coffee-making. Thus I became aware that temping, and the practices associated with it, directly contributed to women's disadvantage in the workplace. Yet l noticed another side to temping, that is the positive aspects it gave women, which must not be overlooked. Feminists have been eager to point out that the breaks women take from work, to have children disrupt their careers. However, women who temp are able to take a break from work whenever they feel. One such woman, Karen, was working for a few weeks while her husband was at home, looking after her baby. Thus, by temping she was saved from part- time work for little money or home work. temptation -a look at office temping The skills temps have are not easily devalued and aided by cross-training schemes at temping agencies women are quickly able to regain their confidence in the labour market. This allows women who temp the freedom to work whenever they want, and although this may raise theoretical problems, in reality temping is ideal for women who want to work and spend time with their families. I also noticed that temping is used by younger women to find suitable jobs for temporary assignments often become permanent. Temps are often freed from the nightmare of sexual harassment, being able to terminate jobs whenever they feel. Alternatively, if a temp likes a job she may apply for the permanent position. One temp I spoke to, Michaela, had left her previous unsatisfactory job and was one the verge of finding another which she preferred with the insurance agency for whom she was temping. I felt this gave women like Michaela more choice, yet, paradoxically, Michaela's job was one of the least

RE: redeeming an iTunes gift card using iTunes in Windows
Okay, I wish I actually had a card. I did try it and did manage to get to an edit field. I got to redeem, and went to where it said edit. It wasn't really an edit field though. I then tabbed once, there it said edit, and I entered into the edit field where I could type. I don't know why it worked though. I am using jaws 14 and windows 7, 64 bit. Good luck, Lois -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Raul A. Gallegos Sent: Saturday, May 18, 2013 11:11 AM To: ViPhone List Subject: redeeming an iTunes gift card using iTunes in Windows Hi all. I am having a rather interesting problem and would like to share this with you to see if others have had similar experiences. If they are different then please let me know. Here's what I have: Windows 7 64-bit, Window-Eyes 8.2, NVDA 2012, and Jaws 14. Obviously I'm not running more than one screen reader at a time. I'm using iTunes and am redeeming an iTunes gift card. Before I continue, I'm not interested in redeeming the card from a Mac or from the iDevice. What seems to be happening is that redeeming the gift card using Window-Eyes and/or NVDA works, but I'm having a hard time with Jaws. I've listed the steps below with appropriate comments on where I do things differently depending on the screen reader and maybe you guys can correct me on the Jaws parts since I'm not as comfortable with it as I am with Window-Eyes. 1. With iTunes running I start in the source list tree view. 2. I up or down arrow until I get to the iTunes store. 3. I press either tab or f6 until I get to the account button. This is past the various app store category buttons like music, apps, iTunes U, ETC. 4. Once at the right button I press the space bar and a context menu pops up. I down arrow once to the Redeem menu item and press enter. The first 4 steps work well with all 3 screen readers, but here is where Jaws departs and NVDA and Window-Eyes continue to work for me. 5. After pressing enter on Redeem, I am asked to sign into my Apple ID account. I'm already on the password field. So, I type my Apple ID password and press enter. So far, so good. 6. Now the html portion of iTunes loads with the redeem section tied to my account. Using Window-Eyes, it's automatically in Browse Mode where things like h for headings, e for edit boxes, and b for buttons work. The same is true for NVDA and Jaws and they also use similar quick access keys. 7. I tab to the edit field where I am to enter in my redeem code. With Window-Eyes I press enter on the edit field and Browse Mode turns off and I am in real iTunes world just as if there was no screen reader. I type in my code and press enter and voila. With NVDA I do the same, and I can even just press tab and the Browse Mode of it also turns off and I can enter in my code and get it to work. Now with Jaws, it seems that no matter what I do, I cannot get out of their virtual mode. They don't call it Browse mode like Window-Eyes and NVDA do. I'm only pointing that out for those who use one screen reader or another that Browse Mode and Virtual Mode are basically the same thing. Using Jaws, I press the numpad-plus key to see if this will say pc cursor, but no matter what I do it only says virtual pc cursor. I also tried pressing insert-z to stop using virtual mode, and again, nothing. I tried routing the jaws cursor, i.e. the mouse pointer, to the pc cursor location and see if I could do it that way, but again, nothing. What got me started on this journey was 2 things. First, I saw a $100 iTunes gift card on sale at Best Buy for $85. Second, a client also purchased this upon my recommendation. I use Window-Eyes and my client uses Jaws. My client is mostly comfortable with iTuens, but a few things are difficult. So, when he called me with this issue at first I thought he was doing something wrong, however if it's not working for me either, and so either this doesn't work as it should, or I'm also doing something wrong and would like to learn what so I can avoid this issue in the future. I welcome ideas and suggestions on what I can try to make it possible to redeem iTunes gift cards using this similar type of setup. Thanks all. -- Raul A. Hello Lois, thanks for that. I'll go try that now and see if I get a second edit field. OK, I just did and nothing. However this time when I press enter on the single edit field I hear the Jaws tone indication I'm in forms mode. I also hear press insert-f1. Hi Raul, I'll pick up a card later and give it a try, only have $3 credit left anyways and I actually now like to have credit for buying stuff instead of having every 99 Cent purchase show up on my credit card. One thing that comes to mind regarding entering the code once you manage to get into the edit field is that I often prefer to type the code in something like Notepad where I know I can review it and make sure it's correct, then copy it to the clipboard which means I can simply paste it once I'm in the right place. This way I know it's correct even if I can't review it. Also, have you downloaded yesterday's iTunes update and the Jaws update from 2 or 3 days ago? They did fix the problem where you couldn't sync selected Audio Books so maybe there are some other improvements and while I don't remember Jaws saying anything about iTunes, using the latest update probably won't hurt. Hello Sieghard, I too use the copy and paste method from notepad for codes like this. However with Window-Eyes I am able to left and right arrow in the edit field so if I happen to type it manually I can review it. I haven't yet updated things from yesterday or this week. So, I'll give that a go and see if they are any different. I like your idea of using a gift card to fuel your purchases so small charges all over the place aren't seen. That sort of brings up a slightly different topic question. If you get a refund for an app which you purchased using your gift card balance, do they just credit that as if it was a credit card? I imagine they do, but thought I'd ask anyway. Cheers. -- Raul A. Gallegos Finally heading to the comic book store. RE: redeeming an iTunes gift card using iTunes in Windows
Hi Raul, Sorry, never requested an app refund so I can't say, but I assume if the app was bought using credit from a gift card that it would be put back as credit. Most places refund using the same method that was used for the purchase. I also like the gift card option because it is not that hard to find a deal like the one you describeif you watch out a bit. Last time I took advantage of a Safeway promo where they offered $50 iTunes cards for $40, the best I ever found was also from Safeway about a year ago when a $50 card was only $37. I don't mind it at all if I get a 15% or 20% discount on everything I buy! Regards, Sieghard -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Re: Prizmo.
Hi, All right, I can understand the licensing issues, sandboxing and all that; that happens on the PC as well. If Apple will allow integration of apps like w and y pages with GPS apps, for example, it seems to me that it should be a fairly simple matter to share tts voices among reading apps so that users don't have to needlessly purchase tts voices over and over again. RE: redeeming an iTunes gift card using iTunes in Windows
I'm a JAWS user, too, and it seems JAWS is generally not as functional within iTunes as is Window-Eyes, at least as best I can understand from differing comments I've heard on this list. And, I believe, Apple's documentation comments upon its compatibility with Window-Eyes, but is silent with respect to JAWS. I'm curious whether this reflects a problem with Apple not making itunes more fully functional with JAWS, a popular screen reader, or if it's more of a Freedom Scientific issue not making JAWS more functional with iTunes? I would certainly hope they could learn to work better with one another. Keith -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Raul A. Gallegos Sent: Saturday, May 18, 2013 10:11 AM To: ViPhone List Subject: redeeming an iTunes gift card using iTunes in Windows Hi all. Thanks all. -- Raul A. Hi Sandy others, I found that 3/8 inch velcro hook portion make good tactile markers to line up the phone on top with aperture of the StandScan Pro. This way the phone stays in place and I have use of 2 hands. I am able to use 1 hand to flatten the written materials and take the picture with other. Re: sim card activation and setting up iphone 4 for overseas travel
Yes. You need an active sim when you setup your new iPhone. Once you go overseas, you only switch cards, you do not set it up again. So, if you are sending an iPhone as a gift for someone overseas, you can set it up using your active sim card. Overseas, they can just switch to another sim card or even use the iPhone as an iPod, with no card at all if they so wish. This looks a great, simple to use app. Now I want to log into my account on the Pc but I can't. I signed up using my Facebook credentials, is this why? I thought it was more convenient than creating my own account. The reason I want to sign into the Pc is so I can try and get a Uk based rather than a Us based number. Any help welcome. Re: redeeming an iTunes gift card using iTunes in Windows
That's the thing I don't really understand. Why do companies make their products accessible to one screen reader only? How does that work, anyway? If you make something accessible, shouldn't it follow that it's accessible using any screen reader? Are't accessible programs accessible in universal methods? I welcome ideas and suggestions on what I can try to make it possible to redeem iTunes gift cards using this
RE: redeeming an iTunes gift card using iTunes in Windows
Hi Arianna and Keith, I can't speak for Window Eyes, but I don't think there is much that one can't do with Jaws in iTunes. Take the example of not being able to sync selected audio books, for example, if I am not mistaken that affected Windo-Eyes and NVDA users just the same and as of yesterday's iTunes update that is fixed. I mean no disrespect to anybody, but I think in more situations the problem is that people have not yet learned to navigate effectively whether it is in iTunes or on the internet with whichever browser one uses. One example, somebody quite a while back mentioned that it is not possible to copy the serial number of your iPhone in iTunes using Jaws. So, I went into iTunes, placed Jaws into the field where the serial number is displayed and pressed Control+C. Jaws said Nothing Selected and when I then went into Notepad and did a Control+V to paste it nothing happened. So, I went back and did a Control+A (select all) first, then a Control+C, once again Jaws said Nothing selected and nothing was pasted into Notepad. Then I went back again, did an Insert+3 for the Pass Key Through command. I then did a Control+C and bingo, the serial number was copied to the clipboard just fine and I was able to paste it. The pass key through command has been in Jaws for so long that I don't even remember, probably since day 1 and it's a basic keystroke that is often useful, yet I think a lot of people don't know about it or forget that it can come in handy. Upgrading A Jailbroken iPhone Without Locking It
Hi guys. Perhaps someone with a jailbroken iPhone can answer this. Is there a way to upgrade a jailbroken iPhone and still have it unlocked? The reason why I'm asking this is last week I got an iPhone 3GS but the only problem with it was that it was originally a Rogers phone. There is an unlabeled button that takes you to the About screen. (I don't know why so many apps that have all the other buttons labeled have one Info button that is not labeled, but this is fairly common). This page has the information about the version number, and buttons to let you email the developers or visit their web site, but it also has an About view help button large button that lets you access complete help information about the app. Apart from this, in general just double tap on Network Scanner, which is the first entry on the main iNet screen, to go to the Network Scanner screen. By default, this displays the results of your last scan. You can simply run a new scan by double tapping the rescan button in the bottom right corner of the screen. You'll get a list of the devices found in a scan of your current network. It will identify the devices by model for both Apple and Windows products (e.g. iPhone, iPad, HP printer, MacBook) along with the Gateway, and give the MAC addresses of the device and the IP addresses on the network. Double tapping on any entry will give you more detailed information. For example, you can tell whether a host is visible or hidden -- whether it replies to a ping. Although the first entry says button, if you flick right you'll get the information Hosts in scan (and a number of devices), and how long ago the scan was run, which is the information associated with that button. I think the reason it can't go into a button label is that the time is dynamically updated with the screen refresh. Double tapping that button gives summary information on the number of hosts found in the network (duplicating the information on the previous page), and will also tell you the time of the earliest previous scan while connected to this network. I don't usually access this unlabeled. One more tip: you can mail the results of a scan, save a scan and assign it a name, access a history of recent scans (listed by date and time), and access your scan settings to extend the scan range (which I never do). These options can be accessed by double tapping the Drop down menu button in the top right corner, but they can also be accessed by double tapping the Network Scanner screen heading, at the top center, which is also announced as a button. Double tapping the Network Scanner heading at the top center of the screen, that is also a button, is actually easier to do, because a four-finger tap in the top half of the screen to move to the first element on the screen will actually move your focus to this button -- and not to the Back button in the top left corner. I mean that if you drag your finger from the top left corner of the screen across the top of the screen, you'll hear Back button in the top left corner, Network Scanner button in the top center, and Drop down menu button in the top right corner, but if you do a Read all of the page, or a flick from the first element of the page, you'll hear the order announced as Network Scanner button (in the top center), Back button (top left corner), and Drop down menu button (top right corner). Because the screen refreshes when the menu drops down from the top center, after double tapping either the Drop down menu button or the Network Scanner button you want to touch the top center of the screen. I double tap the Network Scanner button, and then stroke down with my finger from the top center of the screen. Once you hear any of the drop down options announced, you can flick through the rest. These are: Mail scan results, Save scan, Open scan and Scan settings. To dismiss the menu without choosing an action, flick left back to the Drop down menu button and double tap again. There is also a standard version of the iNet - Network Scanner app that is free (used to be $0.99), that you can try out first. I suspect that you will want the iNet Pro options of scanning results for your case, but I'll also give you the link to the standard version. Re: whom can i contact in apple concerning payment?
whom can i contact in apple concerning payment?I find it easier to use an iTunes gift card for the iTunes store instead of my credit card. I feel a lot safer, too, since if the account was compromised i would not be out much. When I first got my iPhone I put in the credit card number but when I got iTunes cards for Christmas I switched. Now when one gift card is used up I buy another. Just a thought. A problem with The RII 66-key Mini Bluetooth Keyboard.
Hi all, I've recently purchased the RII 66-key Mini Bluetooth Keyboard for iPhone, PC, Mac and Android from A T Guys. When I started using it, I discovered that many of the Voice Over keys described in the blog post found at: http://www.hllf.net/70 don't work both in the Quick Navigation mode on and off. The document which described and summarized these shortcuts stated that they are originally for IOS 4.1. Are there any new shortcuts for IOS 6? Otherwise, Is there any work-around for my problem with this keyboard? Thank you for your help. Re: An Unusual Way to Turn on the iPhone 5
Hi Craig All, Uhhh Duh!!! (slapping myself in the head!) After giving your original message some thought, I realized that you used the term turn on my iPhone, not unlock. So I completely turned off my iPhone and inserted the charging cable just into the iPhone without it being plugged into the wall outlet. Waala, the iPhone did immediately come on! I then turned off my iPhone completely and tried turning it back on using the on/off button. The Iphone does come on a bit faster when using the charger than just using the on/off button, but only by less than a minute. I have an iPhone5 with 6.1.2. I do find this to be strange, but I can't see how this would affect how the iPhone operates or could pose a problem. But then again, who knows? Donna Hello, everyone. I just purchased an iPhone 5 to replace my 3GS. If the phone is turned off, I can turn it on by simply plugging the charging cable into the phone's port. I don't have to press the on/off button, and I don't have to plug the other end of the charging cable into a power outlet. Do other iPhone 5s work this way? Needless to say, if I wish to run the phone on its battery, I use the traditional way of turning it on via the on/off button. Thanks for all help. Re: Distribution Lists
I don't use Outlook, but with the plug in I use in Thunderbird, only the Personal address book in Google Contacts gets synced. Actually, I can configure this in my plug in between Thunderbird and Google Contacts, but I haven't done this since I don't care to have my other address books synced. As far as between Google Contacts and the iPhone, maybe only the Personal Address Book is synced. Maybe you can try to move the contact for your distribution list into Google Contacts Personal Address Book. Hmm, I just realized you may be talking about distribution lists you've created in Outlook, and if so, I wouldn't have any idea on this. Sorry, this wasn't more helpful. I was hoping I could give you some things to think about before others weighed in on this, but I doubt I did even that. Good luck. RE: redeeming an iTunes gift card using iTunes in Windows
Sieghard, Are you suggesting Raul try the insert + 3 key combination in JAWS? You're correct in that I have not heard of this before (but I appreciate learning of it now), and, perhaps, I missed Jonathan Mosen's discussion of it in his FS Casts. Do you remember about where he discusses this in any of his 4 podcast on JAWS and iTunes. I'm most eager to hone in on this as I'm sure it will be most helpful to me to go back and study this section in depth. I appreciate the help. Re: redeeming an iTunes gift card using iTunes in Windows
Hi there. I have to kind of tread carefully on this topic because I do not want to start a screen reader flame war, or a spitting contest between the two lovers of each screen reader. What I can say for certain is that Apple worked with GW micro to make sure that iTunes and window eyes are compatible. Since much of the way that window eyes works with iTunes is similar to the way and VDA also works with iTunes, I suspect that perhaps Jaws might need certain fixes to work correctly with iTunes. Correctly is even too strong of a word. Work better is perhaps more appropriate. All that being said, Jonathan did a wonderful job with the freedom scientific tutorials or podcasts on using Jaws and iTunes. I am also coming at this from a user who understands access technology, but who has used one product over the other a lot more over the years. Because of the nature of my work, I have to be very familiar with all the screen readers in order to teach clients. So I am doing my best to know Jaws even better than I do now. That is why in my original message I gave the disclaimer that it could be something that I myself am doing something wrong with Jaws and iTunes. --- Sent from Raul's iPhone - (832) 554-7285. Please excuse any dictation or auto complete errors. Hi there. That is a good question. However let me put it to you this way. Why don't all pizza makers make their pizza taste the same? The simple reason is because each pizza maker has their own recipe and they are trying to get ahead. Making accessible programs for windows or for other platforms is the same between different companies or developers. Each one has their own ways of programming code and tying in with programs or accessible things to make them work for blind users. The same is true even if you take accessibility out of the equation. This is why some CD writing programs work better than others. This is why in the app store you will literally find more than 100 apps which do the same thing. Each person has their own ways of doing it and it's going to look different, acted different, smell different, taste different, et cetera. I hope that helps answer your question, although I am sure it is not what you were looking for. --- Sent from Raul's iPhone - (832) 554-7285. Please excuse any dictation or auto complete errors. I'm only pointing that out for those who use one screen reader or
Re: redeeming an iTunes gift card using iTunes in Windows
Hi there. You bring up a good point, and that is why I said in my first message that I am fully conscious that I might be doing something wrong because of my less familiar usage of jaws. It's kind of funny that Apple worked with GW micro specifically to make sure that window eyes and iTunes are accessible. Yet later updates to iTunes have broken accessibility with all screenwriters just as you pointed out. So that really means that no one is immune. I believe that Apple will not even support you if you call with iTunes questions and it is running on windows. Or if they will support you, it is probably with a less happy heart then if you were running iTunes on the Mac. I could be wrong about this, and it may have changed, but I know it used to be this way. All in all, if there is a way to do things with any screen reader and iTunes or the web, as long as it can be done then that is the real goal. --- Sent from Raul's iPhone - (832) 554-7285. Re: redeeming an iTunes gift card using iTunes in Windows
Hi there Keith and all. The key that was mentioned is the pass-through key in Jaws, however it is called the bypass key in window eyes. In window eyes the hot key for this is insert plus B. When the pass-through or bypass hot key is pressed, it means that the next keystroke you press is seen by the application as if the screen reader wasn't running. If you try and copy the serial number from iTunes using window eyes I believe you do not have to use the bypass key. The reason you might have to do that with Jaws is because Jaws has a keyboard driver and window eyes does not. This is not a slam on any particular product, just pointing out the differences. Because of these differences, the user will have to do things a certain way with one screen reader over the other. --- Sent from Raul's iPhone - (832) 554-7285. I totally understand that. It just seemed to me that there are uniform ways of making things accessible—i.e., labeling buttons and graphics, reporting the state of alterable controls such as checkboxes and radio buttons, etc. I didn't really understand why programers would make their stuff specifically work with a certain screen reader. Hi, Unfortunately you're in a bit of a pickle. The two values you gave me were the worste possible values you could have scene. Essentially: Since you have the newer, unexploitable bootrom, you'll only be able to upgrade to iOs 6. Unfortunately, the latest version of iOs6 is unjailbreakable, which in your situation isn't good as your unlock is relient on a jailbreak to work. In addition, since the modem firmware (Aka baseband) that your phone is running is one that is meant to only be used on iPads, if you attempt to upgrade to iOs6 through iTunes without making a custom ipsw file, the upgrade will simply fail, resulting in you having to create a custom ipsw just to get back to iOs4. I would suggest that you downgrade your baseband to a 05x version whilst still on iOs4, upgrade to iOs6 through iTunes (no custom ipsw needed) and then try to find an imei based unlock for your device. Here http://www.redmondpie.com/how-to-downgrade-iphone-3gs-3g-06.15.00-to-05.13.04-baseband-for-unlock-and-working-gps/ is a good tutorial for downgrading your baseband although the latest version of Redsn0w is newer than the one it mentions. When Redsn0w asks, you have the newer bootrom. Good luck, take your time and be careful. Cheers, Ben. On 5/19/13, BBS bigbigshawn@gmail.com wrote: Hi Ben. Hi Ari, yes it is frustrating. However I can guarantee that due to the way software has to interact with the operating system, it's not as easy as someone would think making sure things work as they should. Each one has their own ways of programming code and tying in with programs or accessible things to make them work for blind users. The same is true even if you take accessibility out of the equation.

The pass key through command has been in Jaws for so long that I don't even remember, probably since day 1 and it's a basic keystroke that is often useful, yet I think a lot of people don't know about it or forget that it can come in handy. lost my Plantronics M50
Hi all. yesterday I went to Austin to take a certification test for the state so I can legally train consumers with the state. In any case, I took my Plantronics M50 head phone, or rather, ear piece since it's for a single ear, with me, and somewhere between leaving the Chris Cole center and the Greyhound bus I lost it. I don't know if I dropped it out of my shirt pocket when I took something else out of it, or if I took it off and just left it there in the station. In any case, today I went out for some personal life things and really missed having the ear piece with me. So, now I find myself at Amazon, ready to purchase a replacement M50, but then am thinking that since I love exploring new items and trying out new things, maybe I should get a different kind. Then when I think of this I have second and third thoughts because I really like the M50. It's super light, has decent enough volume, and since I mainly use it for VoiceOver and Audio book or podcast listening, I am hesitant to buy another different brand. I've looked at this list's archives and see a few other models people have recommended, but I'm still not sure. I guess there is no point to this message other than saying that if you get used to something and then you don't have it, you will know how much you really liked it if you miss it a lot. -- Raul A. Hi All... As Lella wrote, we think we have a fix to the Authorization error. It's to uninstall VoiceBook VO, go to Facebook and deautorize VoiceBook as an authorized app, the reinstall the app. Essentially, this resets everything and you'll be back up and running. For those who have purchased the upgrade, you'll need to go through the purchase procedure again. However, the good news is that Apple detects that you've already bought it and won't charge you again, although it will seem like they will since all their prompts assume you haven't already paid. RE: lost my Plantronics M50
Hi Raul, I can certainly feel your pain although that might be too strong a word for losing your M50. I am finding myself using Blindsquare and so on a lot more these days because my dog is out of commission for at least 2 months with a torn ACL. This happened while I was in Thailand when he was playing with other dogs and I can tell you that after 10 years of using a White Cane, then 20 years of using my so far 2 dogs and now temporarily being back to the Cane I can really appreciate what these dogs do for us. I live in a very small town and rarely use the GPS with my dog, but the sidewalks here are quite often horrible with lots of gravel and often very few landmarks indicating when you actually go across a cross street. Blindsquare really comes in handy here. Unfortunately the $3,000 surgery right after a fairly expensive holiday also means no budget for toys for a while *smile*. I did, however, pick up a $15 iTunes gift card on my way home tonight and I'll give Jaws and iTunes a try shortly and report back. Accessibility [was Re: redeeming an iTunes gift card using iTunes in Windows]
There are standard ways to make an app accessible, but two things come into play here. First, a development team may not take accessibility into account when first developing there application. Second, following the standard accessibility guidelines may not provide enough differentiation for an application team. A development team may come up with a new innovative way to do something that the accessibility guidelines haven't addressed yet. In either case, once you get an application out there that doesn't have accessibility built into it from the get go then accessibility has to be bolted on after the fact. In the case of an application like iTunes, this is done by a combination of changes in iTunes itself as well as special hooks added to the screen readers to support iTunes. You also have the case where Apple has it's own OS, it's own screen reader and it's own set of apps. Ditto for Google. MS is a little different, but if you lump in the Windows screen readers with MS then it's an analogous situation to Apple and Google. Apple's motivation is to get people using Apple products, so their commitment to iTunes accessibility on Windows only goes so far. Obviously, they needed to address this to promote iPhone sales, but as the Mac gets more and more popular at the expense of the PC, they'll be less and less motivated to put any effort into an iTuens product for Windows, let alone making it accessible. Also, with the change in OS's, and interfaces such as Windows 8, Gnome 3, Unity, HTML5 and so on, the accessibility standards still need to be developed and settled on as a standard. It just seemed to me that there are uniform ways of making things accessible—i.e., labeling buttons and graphics, reporting the state of alterable controls such as checkboxes and radio buttons, etc. I didn't really understand why programers would make their stuff specifically work with a certain screen reader. As you can probably see, this...' '' all doesn't make too much sense to me lol. Thanks, Ari On May 18, 2013, at 5:34 PM, Raul A. Gallegos r...@raulgallegos.com wrote: Hi there. How does that work, anyway? If you make something accessible, shouldn't it follow that it's accessible using any screen reader? Are't accessible programs accessible in universal methods? And, I believe, Apple's documentation comments upon its compatibility with Window-Eyes, but is silent with respect to JAWS. I'm curious whether this reflects a problem with Apple not making itunes more fully functional with JAWS, a popular screen reader, or if it's more of a Freedom Scientific issue not making JAWS more functional with iTunes? Hi Ben. Before he downgraded and jailbroke my iPhone, it was running iOS6. He also put an app on it called Cydia. Does any of this mean anything to you? Oh yeah, iOS6 wasn't jailbroken. Re: Jonathan Mosen's podcast about Siri
Hi Sieghard, I think Arianna wanted the link for direct download of the podcast mp3 file, without using the player. Not sure why she couldn't get the context menu to come up with a copy link option, but here's a shortened, direct link to the mp3 file for Jonathan's old Siri demo: http://bit.ly/13xNDd0 I prefer to post full URLs, which for this case is: http://audioboo.fm/boos/544034-a-comprehensive-audio-demonstration-of-siri.mp3 HTH.
