Re: Low Voiceover Volume on a Call

2016-12-05 Thread Arnold Schmidt
Go into voice over settings, and tap rotor. Add volume to the rotor by checking
the box. Then, call a service that will keep talking long enough for you to go
to volume in the rotor, and one-finger swipe up to raise the volume of voice
over. Repeat this when you want to change the voice over volume in other
situations.

Using tune in radio you can listen to the same butt books as audible. The
only difference is that with audible, you download the book while with
tune in you stream the book. I really like tune in radio for it only costs
$999 for a month in comparison to audible prices.

OverDrive Help

2016-12-05 Thread Blind Treasures {Your One Stop Shop}
I just recently got signed up with my local library and installed OverDrive
which I am enjoying tremendously. However, I am wondering if there is any
other

method of fast forwarding and rewinding other than the 15 seconds button
shown or having to go back a hole chapter at a time. Thanks for any help in
this

matter. I downloaded the new RS Games app onto my IPhone 6s and am having a
couple issues that I'm wondering if it is just me. Firstly, whenever I send
a chat message the background music goes away. Secondly, the speech will go
away in the middle of a game and I will have to dump the game and go back
in. This happens quite often. I tried unloading voiceover and just use the
built in speech but does the same thing. This happens with both the Alex
voice and any of the others. Is anyone else finding these bugs as well?

RE: bluetooth headset question

2016-12-05 Thread Chip Orange
I’d much rather have the neck collar ones I have from LG, as they have buttons
for controlling everything, and they don’t block your ears when not being used,
and there’s no chance in losing it. It also has a vibrating motor built-in,
and one way it’s used is to vibrate if you walk away from your phone and get
out of bluetooth range (due to leaving it somewhere), then it vibrates to let
you know that you’re leaving your phone.

Before I spent this sort of money on a set of bluetooth earbuds I would totally
wait for the Apple Airpods to come out which shouldn't be long now. There are
actually rumours they may hit the stores either just befor or just after
Christmas. The only thing I think I would criticise on them from what I know
now is that they don't have anything connecting them to each other and it is
probably easier to loose them or one of them. I think it's OK that Apple
doesn't want to connect them, but they could have easily molded a small loop or
hole into them so you could connect them if you wanted to do so and Apple could
have charged another $9.99 for different colour connector loops like that wrist
loop they make for the Apple TV remote and which costs them 25 Cents to make.
They should hire me, I could tell them how to make lots of extra cash *smile*

RE: bluetooth headset question

2016-12-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

RE: iTunes match

2016-12-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You can't really compare iTunes Match with Apple Music using price. Yes, iTunes
match is cheaper, but Apple Music gives you access to Apple's entire offering
of 36 Million or whatever it is now songs. I only have a bit more than 4,000 of
my own songs which I ripped and I have these on a network attached hard drive
in FLAC format and also converted all of them to AAC (M4A) for use with iTunes
and those are not only on various hard drives but also uploaded to my OneDrive
cloud storage. While I still have a box of all my 250 or so CD's I guess I
should at some point start uploading the FLAC files to OneDrive as well just in
case, it's about 100 Gb and I have 1 Tb of OneDrive with my Office 365 account
so there is plenty of space.

Hi,

The idea of vertical navigation is that in places like tables or game boards,
you can flick up and down to move up and down the current column. It doesn't

RE: measuring wifi strength with free app

2016-12-05 Thread Chip Orange
Thanks Richard ... great for finding this, as I could not find any
documentation for this app.

I used it only to help me verify when I made adjustments to my router settings
and/or positioning, whether I had actually improved things or not in problem
spots in my house. I originally had single digit numbers in some problem
spots, so this app helped me immediately see when I improved things. Same
reasoning helped me move devices around to better spots if they seemed to be
placed in a problem spot.

Double tap and hold on the record button for a while and it will give you an
average in MBPS, millibytes per second.

Depending on what speed you are paying for, good could be anything from 25 to
100...

am up to 92348 so I am getting my moneys worth. I also downloaded a local copy
of my entire library of iTunes match, just in case I decide not to want it any
more, highly doubt it though, I get my music on all my devices and don’t have
to sync with iTunes.

My iTunes Match subscription renewed a couple of months ago, and in fact,

so I don't think it's going away anytime soon. I certainly hope not!

I am more and more impressed by the Bose Soundsport Bluetooth. They are very
light and fairly small with very good sound. The fit is excellent for
comfort and staying in place. The cable connecting the buds is long enough
that they can hang around your neck and there is a clip in the middle to

Depending on how much in a hurry you are to get one I would probably say
that from what I heard the new Apple Airpods will be if not the best at
least among the best. I think regarding ease of use and connectivity the
Airpods will be the best since Apple has designed them to pair super-easy.
Of course they were supposed to come out a month ago and Apple has delayed
the release, rumours are they could come out right before Christmas, but it
could also easily be January or February.

Re: iTunes match

2016-12-05 Thread Mary Otten
Well, unless Apple figures out a way to have a permanent record of what I have
ripped my cell and what I have actually purchased, as opposed to what I just
play without purchasing, I do not want my iTunes match going away. Most of what
I have in my music library is stuff I ripped myself, and the rest is stuff I
have purchased. So if I stop subscribing to Apple Music, I should still have
all of the music. If you mix there DRM stuff with your own personal stuff, then
iTunes match is gone, and you stop subscribing to Apple Music, what would
happen to all the stuff you own personally? That's what I want to know.

Hello Listers,

I created a new apple ID for my old iPhone 5s. I am having a bit of
trouble when it comes to facetime on that phone. When I try and use
facetime on the 5s it says waiting for activation. I turn off
facetime and I turn it back on again. I get an error activating
facetime please try it again. I do have the use apple ID for facetime.

RE: Have questions about a Mac version

2016-12-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
When you say she wants you to have it, does that mean she is giving it to you
for free? If so then I would simply thank her and take it, just because it's an
older Mac doesn't mean you won't get some use out of it, it will still have
Voiceover even though you probably won't be able to have SIRI and so on which I
believe is limited to the newest version of MAC OS.
As for the battery I would probably just use it for a while on AC power to see
if it's working well and what you want, no need spending money on a new battery
which most likely has to come from Apple and will be expensive if the laptop
isn't working well.

Subject: Have questions about a Mac version

Hello everyone,

I have some questions regarding a mac.

However, I don't know if this can be discussed on this list. If not, could
someone please direct me to a list where I can discuss this?

A great friend of mine has a Mac laptop. I don't know exactly what type
it is. She didn't mention that, because she probably didn't think to do so.

But if I understand correctly, there are different types. Am I correct
about this?

Anyway, she wants me to have it. I've been wanting a Mac for some time
now. But I just don't have that kind of money, and it would take me
quite a long time to save up for one.

Should I consider getting this laptop?

She says it works well, though I would most likely need to replace the
battery. That's fine with me, as I need to replace the windows 7 laptops
battery I am using now.

She says that the laptop uses Yosemite, and that it can not be upgraded..

And why would it most likely not be able to be upgraded?

So does this mean that any Apps I may want to add, will likely not work?

And what kind of Apps does someone use on a Mac?

I don't even know where to begin learning how to use one. I have
absolutely no experience. But I would like to try, if at all possible.

Any thoughts, or suggestions from you all, would definitely be
appreciated. I go to see her on Saturday.

Thank you for reading this.

I found when helping my mom shop that you have to search for what you are
looking for and then it is very easy to add items to the cart. The only other
thing that gave me problems was if she wanted to change the quantity of an item
or if she decided she did not want an item, Once in the cart, it lists the
items, but it does not read the delete or remove button, so I had to get
sighted assistance for that part. They also ask that once you receive your
order, that you leave a review for the delivery person, that wasn’t very easy
to do either.

Re: Fleksy goHi list. I saw a post from someone else who found their version of Fleksy vO just like me. I was wondering if since it is not in the app store anymore is there a way to share the program.

2016-12-05 Thread candyrlowe
I had deleted the flecksy VO app a while back. Then I tried to get it back. I
downloaded it from my purchased apps, but, it wouldn't work. Last night, after
reading these posts, I tried again. It is now working like a charm. I am so
glad you all brought this up. I use dictate, mbraille, the regular iPhone
keyboard, but, sometimes certain conditions Flecksy VO is the best.

Hmm... iTunes Match costs only one sixth the price of Apple Music per year: you
can see why Apple would like to roll us into paying more, but I would prefer
the old cheaper iTunes Match!! Harry

Re: iTunes match

2016-12-05 Thread Wayne Merritt
Hi. I read an article back in August I think that Apple was taking
what was good about iTunes Match and combining it with Aple Music. The
article said that all current iTunes Match subscribers would slowly be
converted to Apple Music, and that you would not be charged for
another year of iTunes Match. Perhaps this is what you are seeing. If
you don't subscribe to Apple Music then I'm not sure what happens
there. Personally, I am glad that iTunes Match is rolling into Apple
Music, that makes more sense to me to have them as one service and
have the best features of both. That article I mentioned I'm pretty
sure was widely published on the various Apple news sites, like iMore.

Re: emoticons on iPhone

2016-12-05 Thread Wayne Merritt
No, just type the name of the animal, person or object and then switch
to the emoji keyboard. As soon as you switch to the emoji keyboard and
then touch the editable text area, your focus should already be on the
emoji rodar item, but there's no harm in swiveling back and forth just
to be sure. The emoji rodar item is not something that would be listed
in VoiceOver settings. If you have typed an emoji representation and
switch to the emoji keyboard, then this item will automatically appear
in your rodar.

Good luck,
Wayne

Re: RE: RE: audio books on tune in

2016-12-05 Thread Wayne Merritt
Does anyone know if with TuneIn if you can listen to books at variable
speed? I looked into listening to audio books in TuneIn several months
ago but was disappointed when I saw that I was unable to speed up the
audio playback of the book. If I could make it read faster than
normal, then this would definitely open up more options for hearing
current best-sellers.

Hi,
I don’t think you can use Alex, but you can choose voices like Daniel and Karen
versus Samantha.. I believe you do this on the watch app on the phone.

Hi everyone,
I think I'm doing something wrong. I make a new message, a tipe for example
lion, then turn the emoji keyboard, then try the rotor but nothing turns up. Do
I have to activate this in the rotor in settings?

Re: the shipt grocery shopping web site or app

2016-12-05 Thread MamaPeach
I found when helping my mom shop that you have to search for what you are
looking for and then it is very easy to add items to the cart. The only other
thing that gave me problems was if she wanted to change the quantity of an item
or if she decided she did not want an item, Once in the cart, it lists the
items, but it does not read the delete or remove button, so I had to get
sighted assistance for that part. They also ask that once you receive your
order, that you leave a review for the delivery person, that wasn’t very easy
to do either.

Sorry, for Ueber questions you have to ask for help from others, here in
Canada there are only 2 or 3 cities where Uber is available. Currently I
know they are in Edmonton and after having been shut down in Calgary I heard
they are starting up again there this week or next week. I think maybe
Montreal has Uber and Toronto, but I can't remember if they have it or if
they are fighting it. Vancouver has so far not allowed them to come in and I
doubt I'll ever see Uber in the little town of 6,000 up in northern BC where
I live.

turn Airplane mode on during the ride and until the time when you need the

Hi, list.

I plan to take a Uber ride on Friday in India as I am visiting there.
Should I carry my cel phone during the ride if I pay with Paypal? I am
asking this because I am not using my cellular data here because of high
toll charges for roaming. I use wi-fi only. I leave my iPhone fife S at
home because of the mobile snatching that is a routine in the area I am
visiting. Would I need the phone at the end of the ride because I am
paying Paypal?

Thanks?
Thanks!

Hi there Helga,

Thank you very much! I really appreciate this information.

I just sent an email to join the list you recommended. So hopefully that will

If I do take this Mac laptop from my friend, I certainly have a lot to learn.
But I like a good challenge.

Also, I do have a bluetooth keyboard, which I sometimes use with my Iphone.

However, I usually just type emails with it. I really don't know the commands

I didn't realize that I need to find out what type of mac she has. I just
thought knowing that it was a laptop, and knowing what it was running, was good
enough.

Thank you again for the help.

Anyway, she wants me to have it. I've been wanting a Mac for some time

quite a long time to save up for one.

Should I consider getting this laptop?

She says it works well, though I would most likely need to replace the
battery. That's fine with me, as I need to replace the windows 7 laptops

I have

Any thoughts, or suggestions from you all, would definitely be
appreciated. I go to see her on Saturday.

Thank you for reading this.

  Hi Shaf,

Strictly speaking what you and Sarah describe would be fraud, a thief is
somebody who steels something by breaking into your house or maybe from a store
during opening hours. Anyhow, in a way it is symantics. I don't fault you and
Sarah from being angry, but I still say that the 2,000 people on this list
which deals with the iPhone, iOS, apps and accessories want to continuously
come across posts where every time Eden posts something you call her out by
calling her a thief, crook or whatever. If somebody has the moderators
permission to advertise an item for sale and you see Eden replying you can
always send that person a direct message to warn them, but while I am sorry for
you having been defrauded it should not be a continuous issue on this or other
lists. I'll leave it at this and won't comment further.

Hi list,

I was reading a thread where somebody else said that they were scammed by an
individual named Eden Kizer. I was one of those individuals who was scammed by
her.

Just over a year ago I advertised a BrailleNote braille display on
Blindbargains, and was contacted by somebody named Eden Kizer asking too
purchase it from me. I was selling it for $4000 and she said she couldn't
afford to pay for it all at once. She asked me if she could pay monthly
installments of $500 and, since I really wanted to sell it and thought she
would honor her word, I took the first payment of $500 and sent her the
BrailleNote. The BrailleNote was in excellent condition, had no scratches or
dents, had an excellent battery and came with all the accessories including the
carrying case.

I have yet to receive the rest of the payment for the BrailleNote (she owes me
$3500). I have previously attempted to call her about it, and rather than
talking about why she wouldn't pay the rest of the money she owes me she
decided to change her phone number. She also ignores my emails.

I just want everybody to be aware of Eden's scams. I'm extremely upset that she
didn't pay me back in full for the BrailleNote I sold her and hope she doesn't
do the same to anybody else. I'd hate to know that other people have also been
scammed by her, although I'm sure she's done the same to others. I was only
trying to do her a favor by accepting payment installments since I understand
not everybody has $4000 to pay all at once, but now I know not to do that
anymore and only accept a payment in full.

Thanks for reading and I hope people think twice before falling for these
horrible scams.

Have questions about a Mac version

2016-12-05 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I have some questions regarding a mac.

However, I don't know if this can be discussed on this list. If not,
could someone please direct me to a list where I can discuss this?

Terri

Question about my new Apple Watch and iPhone

2016-12-05 Thread Jim Portillo
Hello. I got my new Apple Watch today and was setting it up following the
podcast instructions from David Woodbridge.
However, I am wondering the following. I believe that since he recorded those
initial Apple Watch 101 podcasts, there is a new iOS for the watch. I think
it's up to version three no. Anyway, I was originally told to sit to watch up
as a new watch. However, when I was setting up my watch tonight, I got the
choice of sharing my iPhone settings. Should I have done that, or should I have
completely tried to set it up as a new watch? I don't know very much about the
watch right now, but it seems to be working OK would be shared iPhone setting
so far. However, if there are better advantages to setting it up as a new
watch, I would be happy to go ahead and reset it completely. What are your
thoughts? Thank you! I'm excited!
