Re: Battery still an issue with iPhone SE and iOS 12

2018-10-26 Thread Vicki W.
I've been away and have hundreds of messages to catch up on, so I'm not sure
what was said on this problem.

I noticed my battery level on my mini IPad and phone both dropped.

I double checked the display to make sure my brightness hadn't been turn on
by itself, as it sometimes does, and on one of the devices it was up and on
the other it was zero.

I changed that and still had an issue, so I went into both devices and
turned off the screen manager that was introduced with IOS 12. That did the
trick.

Hearing this Makes me Glad, I didn't Update My
iPhoneSE From iOS10.3.3 TO iOS12
At 08:46 AM 10/23/2018, you wrote:
It say the batter is operating at 92% capacity, but it still delivers peak
performance according to the iPhone's battery health section.

I didn't have these problems, either until I did the 12.0 upgrade.

I'll give Apple a call and see what they suggest.

Should be interesting considering I only have the iPhone as a phone, so
hopefully they won't require a complete restore.

18 months should not have degraded much, but if you haven't spoken with
Apple about this, I would.
I purchased my SE in December last 2017 and it doesn't lose that much over
night.

Subject: Battery still an issue with iPhone SE and iOS 12

Hi, all.  I'm using an eighteen month old iPhone SE.  I've had iOS 12
for over a month and I'm still plagued by battery issues.

I can unplug my phone once it's charged to 100% and leave it alone for
six or seven hours and my battery will be at around 92% with no apps
running, the phone being locked and set to Do Not Disturb.

I always have four Verizon bars and three wifi bars, so the phone isn't
even having difficulty finding a signal on either network. This battery
drain happens while the phone is unplugged and sitting on my nightstand
in the same room as the wifi router and a window, so there again, it's
not having issues staying connected.

Here's what I've tried so far to resolve the issue:Â Screen time is off,
Location services are off, Auto brightness is off, raise to wake is off,
background app refresh is off, Email and other push notifications have
been disabled, network settings have been reset at least twice.  I've
also rebooted the phone with the power/home button combo.  Last week I
tried charging it to 100, shutting the phone down completely, and
keeping it plugged into the charger for about eight hours.

I didn't have these issues before upgrading from iOS 10 to 12. Before
the upgrade I noticed the biggest battery drain using YouTube or other
apps where the phone had to be unlocked while in use, but that was
expected.

My only thought now is to do the reset where I need to restore the phone
as a new device.

Is there anything else I can do to resolve the issue?  Also, if I do the
restore, can I do this using iTunes, my PC and no working eyeballs?

Other than the battery issues, I'm not having any difficulty with my
phone.  And, as I said, I wasn't having these issues before the upgrade.

TIA for thoughts.

Hi Sieghard,

If you open the properties of that iTunes64 file, navigate to the, Details
tab, & route your Jaws cursor to the PC cursor you should find what the
version is . I have that setup.exe file and the version reads, Product
version 12.6.3.6.

Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

I seem to remember that Mark said iTunes 12.6.3 was updated as well, but I
don't know if it's done automatically or if you are prompted to do so or if
you have to download it. When I just tried to download the 64 bit version
the installer file name was simply somethings like iTunesSetup64 so it
didn't indicate the version.
On the other hand if you just want to use iTunes to update the latest
official release of iTunes is OK, it has some issues if you want to use it
to play music since currently Jaws or other screenreaders don't read the
list of artists, genres etc., but the iPhone section is accessible as
always.

I totally agree about your recommanded iTunes version, this version has also

But are we sure making backups with this version is secure?
I ask this because I noticed myself that for example supposing you want to
update your software over iTunes, this can nolonger be done for ios12 on
this version.
One day after ios12 came out and I wanted to test whether to update my Phone

Hi,

which phones are they offering that battery deal for and is it available in
the UK? also would you have to go to an apple shop to have it done or could
they do it in other shops such as the car phone warehouse.

You said 18 month old iPhone SE. That battery is probably a bit degraded
which would cause something like this to happen. but you can go to
settings and battery to see if you're phone is doing anything during
those six hours it's just sitting there. I recently learned that mine
was and zello was the cause. Zello was causing my phone to be in use for
around 20 minutes per hour when I was asleep one night. And the app was
closed. You might want to take advantage of the $29 battery replacement

Hi, Sieghard.

Yes, actually, I've reset network settings at least twice since the 12.x

generally, I'd tell people to go ahead and upgrade their phones, since
the issue with battery drainage is a rare one. At this point I'm a bit
concerned, not actively worried. I'm not a huge traveler beyond my home
area, and I have a small external battery pack I carry with me, so the
phone can stay charged if I need it to. I'm not getting a battery case
because I'm upgrading to a newer and most likely larger sized device
next year. So for now, until I can get a definitive answer, I can keep
my phone charged and still enjoy iOS 12 without too many worries.

And no, the battery issue is the only one I've noticed. Siri works fine
for me as do the other gestures some folks have difficulty with.

Rob I think was the one who then posted that he was still on 10.3.3 and

I do agree that iOS 12 is much better than iOS 10 ever was and I also

As for lisa's battery drain issue it is of course something which she

expects her phone to stay at 100% as somebody else suggested, but if a
phone is locked and on Do Not Disturb and nothing else is going on I agree
that battery drain at best should be minimal. She says her phone drained
8% in 6 or 7 hours with no useage whatsoever, I actually don't think that
is outrageous although I also think it's maybe more than it should be
since I would say in the perfect world this should be maybe 3% or 4%.
Lisa, did you ever try the Reset Network Settings? I also was surprised by
something else and that is that at one point a few weeks ago I plugged in
my phone at night and then turned it off for some reason. I forgot to turn
it on until the next morning and when I then turned it on and unplugged it
I found my battery seemed to last longer than before.

Have you tried calibrating the battery? The way this is done is to run
it all the way down until the phone actually shuts down. Let it sit for
about 20 minutes and then charge it all the way. I've read several
articles that say this is a good idea ever so often.

Yes, I'm working up the courage to do this.    I despise iTunes
and don't even have it installed on this machine. I went looking for it

Also, if I do this, can I do it without sighted help?

I'm not as concerned with data or apps because I have the important

It's just the part about losing speech and not getting the phone back

2018-10-24 Thread Lisa Belville

Hi, Sieghard.

Yes, actually, I've reset network settings at least twice since the 12.x
upgrade.

generally, I'd tell people to go ahead and upgrade their phones, since
the issue with battery drainage is a rare one.

Rob I think was the one who then posted that he was still on 10.3.3 and glad he
hadn't updated yet. Is such a message useful, maybe not, but your reply is
pretty judgemental and it's not useful, either. It is everybody's choice
whether they want to update or not, but telling somebody to just update and
stop argueing about battery when in fact she has updated and is simply stating
a fact is rude.
I do agree that iOS 12 is much better than iOS 10 ever was and I also replied
to Rob telling him that and listing a few features which I think make iOS 12
pretty compelling.
As for lisa's battery drain issue it is of course something which she needs to
address if she had better battery life before. I doubt she expects her phone to
stay at 100% as somebody else suggested, but if a phone is locked and on Do Not
Disturb and nothing else is going on I agree that battery drain at best should
be minimal. She says her phone drained 8% in 6 or 7 hours with no useage
whatsoever, I actually don't think that is outrageous although I also think
it's maybe more than it should be since I would say in the perfect world this
should be maybe 3% or 4%.
Lisa, did you ever try the Reset Network Settings? I also was surprised by
something else and that is that at one point a few weeks ago I plugged in my
phone at night and then turned it off for some reason. I forgot to turn it on
until the next morning and when I then turned it on and unplugged it I found my
battery seemed to last longer than before.

Have you gone through all the settings to see if something got enabled during

I hope you can check with Apple, as this does seem more than normal for sure.

Here's what I've tried so far to resolve the issue:  Screen time is off,
Location services are off, Auto brightness is off, raise to wake is off,
background app refresh is off, Email and other push notifications have
been disabled, network settings have been reset at least twice.  I've
also rebooted the phone with the power/home button combo.  Last week I
tried charging it to 100, shutting the phone down completely, and
keeping it plugged into the charger for about eight hours.

I didn't have these issues before upgrading from iOS 10 to 12. Before
the upgrade I noticed the biggest battery drain using YouTube or other

My only thought now is to do the reset where I need to restore the phone
as a new device.

Is there anything else I can do to resolve the issue?  Also, if I do the
restore, can I do this using iTunes, my PC and no working eyeballs?

Other than the battery issues, I'm not having any difficulty with my
phone.  And, as I said, I wasn't having these issues before the upgrade.

TIA for thoughts.

RE: Battery still an issue with iPhone SE and iOS 12

2018-10-23 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
There are very few people who have such battery issues and doing a few simple
preparations before you upgrade like making sure all apps are closed and
turning your phone off and back on reduce the likelyhood even further. Apart
from that I certainly enjoy how snappy iOS 12 is on my iPhone 6S Plus, how
stabil it runs and features like SIRI Shortcuts, Airplay 2 etc. Hopefully
person to person payments with Apple Pay will make it to Canada soon since that
is another really neat feature I know I would use since most of my friends and
family have iPhones.
iOS 12 is by far the best iOS Apple has released in the last 5 or so years.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi, all.  I'm using an eighteen month old
iPhone SE.  I've had iOS 12 for over a month
and I'm still plagued by battery issues.

Before

RE: Battery still an issue with iPhone SE and iOS 12

2018-10-23 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Correct, it is for the iPhone 6 and up, but in this case up means newer and not
older, if you have an iPhone 5S you don't qualify for the $29 battery
replacement.
I have a 6S Plus and my wife has a 6S and we both had our batteries changed by
Apple at the end of May, we showed both I think 83% or 84% capacity. Not sure
if they'll change it if it is at 92%.
Like some suggested, after you have it sitting there even for 2 hours with no
activity check your battery usage and see what is says for standby time and
usage time, it should hardly any usage time at all, if it does then some app or
process is active and you can see if a Reset Network Settings will fix it, if
you already did this you maybe have to dop a complete reset and start from
scratch.

apps where the phone had to be unlocked while in use, but that was expected.

2018-10-23 Thread Gordon
You said 18 month old iPhone SE. That battery is probably a bit degraded
which would cause something like this to happen. but you can go to
settings and battery to see if you're phone is doing anything during
those six hours it's just sitting there. I recently learned that mine
was and zello was the cause. Zello was causing my phone to be in use for
around 20 minutes per hour when I was asleep one night. And the app was
closed. You might want to take advantage of the $29 battery replacement
program that Apple is offering until the end of this year.

I always have four Verizon bars and three wifi bars, so the phone
isn't even having difficulty finding a signal on either network. This
battery drain happens while the phone is unplugged and sitting on my
nightstand in the same room as the wifi router and a window, so there
again, it's not having issues staying connected.

Here's what I've tried so far to resolve the issue:  Screen time is
off, Location services are off, Auto brightness is off, raise to wake
is off, background app refresh is off, Email and other push
notifications have been disabled, network settings have been reset at
least twice.  I've also rebooted the phone with the power/home button
combo.  Last week I tried charging it to 100, shutting the phone down
completely, and keeping it plugged into the charger for about eight
hours.
