time taken for message to get to list?
Hi everyone, One more question concerning how long emails take to arrive on the list. The email below this one was sent on the 27 th March, but has only arrived on the list today, 04/04. This happens everytime I send an email to the list. Does anyone know why this happens? I used to send my email to [EMAIL PROTECTED], but once I established a yahoo.com. account for myself yahoo seems to have grabbed them. It is only since I registered for a yahoo mail account that my emails take nearly a week to appear on the list. Including the odd occassion I have been able to reply! cheers, Paul Holland
Re:Cataloguing Images
Hello Jim, I have been cataloguing photographic images via databases for the past 17 years. Initially this entailed developing a cataloguing methodology as well as a database. The current cross-platform version of each is freely available as a PDF and accompanying FileMaker runtime solution file at the address below. One word of caution though is to link any images rather than the default embedding as the latter blows out the size of the database very quickly resulting in slow performance and potential crashing. Should you have any further questions please feel free to ask. cheers, Douglas Douglas Elford Imaging New Media Western Australian Museum [EMAIL PROTECTED] Author of WAMfoto: A Procedure Manual and Database for Cataloguing Photographs, since 1985 http://www.museum.wa.gov.au/collections/photography/wamfoto.htm Subject: Cataloguing issues Here in Murdoch we are getting students to label high-quality colour images of museum specimens as an exercise in learning Anatomy. Ultimately when corrected we want to make these available for all to study, probably via a CD that the students can purchase rather than via the WWW (too easy to steal!). The issue is how to catalogue them and have a searchable data base. My immediate response was FileMaker Pro (we have FMP 4.0) , but I wonder if anyone has a better solution? -- Dr J.M. Cummins
Re: Ti powerbook IRDA with Nokia 6210
5) Panic as you think about the high cost and watch everything go so slow because although the phone is actually capable of a 43k connection, Telstra only allow a 9.6k connection. Legalised mafia strikes again! Telstra never rolled out HCSCD because they rolled out GPRS instead, hence why the network doesn't support it (does any other carriers' network in Australia?). GPRS isn't supported on a Nokia 6210, so you could just as equally blame Nokia :) Have fun, Shay (In the interest of full disclosure, I do have Telstra shares. Re: File Sharing
Go into your system prefs and select network. Choose the Ethernet from the pop-up window next to Show. Click on the AppleTalk tab and then click on the checkbox that says Make AppleTalk Active. You will also need to set up sharing options via the Sharing section (Email me if you have any problems). When you want to connect the computers select Go from the title menu in the finder and then choose Connect to Server choose the AppleTalk option and the rest should be no problem. Ruben A. Turn filesharing on on one machine from the System Preferences-Sharing panel. (No, depsite what everyone says you don't need AppleTalk really!) From the Finder on the machine that isn't sharing, choose 'Connect to server' and enter the IP number of the server machine. You can find the IP number in the server's File sharing preferences panel. Wouldn't it be easier to click on a name rather than matching an IP address to the machine you want? Well, the question only asked about networking two machines, and the transfer will take place using ASIP anyway, whether AppleTalk is turned on or off. (Of course more networking things desperately need to implement the sort of service discovery protocols AppleTalk has had since 1984. Network Services Location Manager just doesn't seem as good somehow.) Have fun, Shay -- === Shay Telfer Perth, Western Australia Technomancer It must be bunnies!
