Re: Anyone had any issues with OS 4.2 on your iPad ?

2010-11-22 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi Susan,

Before you update on your iPhone, this is how I updated my iPad and didn't have
any problems (as yet).

1. Backup & Sync FIRST
2. Then download & install the update
3. Let it do another Sync

Hope you don't have any problems with the update on the iPhone.

Cheers,
Ronni

Re: Anyone had any issues with OS 4.2 on your iPad ?

2010-11-22 Thread Ronda Brown

Hi Carlo (sorry I misspelt your name before),

Yes, Apple are becoming greedy I feel, more like Microsoft … my god did I just
mention Apple becoming like Microsoft … yikes!

My iPhone 3Gs has never given me a problem, everything works perfectly, but if
Apple are going to only update the iOS software for the iPhone 4, they are
ultimately forcing people to update their iPhones.
Which is similar to OS X 10.6 only being able to run on Intel Macs.

Yep, Apple are becoming greedy!

Ronni

Only had time to do the iPad this morning. It crashed and the only way restore
it was by using a different Mac. So, took quite a while to restore twice and
get everything working.

I haven't tried my iPhone 3GS yet.

Re: Anyone had any issues with OS 4.2 on your iPad ?

2010-11-22 Thread cm
Hi Rhonda,

I have an iPhone 3GS that I upgraded to OS 4.2.1 and it provides access to text
tones (and Safari search within web page).

To set a text tone, bring up the contact in your contact list and press Edit.
Along with ringtone, there is now a new field text tone.

Safari search within web page was a bit hard to find as well, but type a search
term into the "Google" search field (the Google label is a bit misleading) and
then instead of hitting the Search button, scroll to the bottom of the
suggested search terms and press an "On this page" entry.

Cheers,
Carlo

Hey Daniel,

Our iPhone 3Gs don't get the new text tones, & some other functions ... Apple
are wanting people to upgrade to iPhone 4 :-(
Even the current page for iOS 4.2 doesn't note that the new text tones are
iPhone 4 specific, though it does note that GameCenter, AirPrint, and VoiceOver
have device restrictions.

On the Apple iOS 4.2 page it clearly says the new text tones are "iPhone only".
If it was only for the iPhone 4 Apple should have posted that.

Ah well, back to serious work.

Hi Michael,

Google is your friend ;o)

It seems that this is currently a ³feature² of Office 2011 there is some
discussion of the issue here:

I haven¹t read the whole thread, but it is suggested:

It doesn¹t seem to be a problem for anyone (apart from the WTF factor!)

Re: Firefox crashing

2010-11-22 Thread John Daniels
Thanks Ronni and Neil
I have tried your recommendations without success. Firefox will not start in
safe mode although it does bring up the safe mode screen on which I can select
restart etc without success.

I should have also added this link:

which explains safe mode better.

Hi John,

Check out this MozillaZine article on Firefox crashes:

Assuming you have already checked that you are running the latest Firefox
version that is compatible with your hardware/software, then if Firefox is
crashing as soon as you try and open it, start in Firefox Safe Mode
, which disables all extensions, to
help determine if an extension is causing the problem.

There is more info and linked info contained in the article.

wkresources

2010-11-22 Thread Michael Hawkins
I installed OS 10.6.5 last week, combo update.

On the same day, after updating Microsoft Office 2004, I installed Office
2011.

Before installing each of the updates, I backed up, repaired permissions,
restarted, repaired permissions again, installed the update, restarted,
repaired permissions again.

I went through that process first with the update to 10.6.5 and then when
installing Office 2011.

Office 2004 is still installed and will remain until I work out if Outlook
2011 will import the 3 different identities I had created in Entourage.

Now, each time I restart or startup the computer, trash contains an item
wkresources which is a 197kb unix executable file.

The computer seems to be running ok. Repairing permissions makes no
difference. Need I be concerned?

Thank you,

For MobileMe Users who were using MobileMe Calendar on your iPad prior to
updating to iOS 4.2.

"Important: If you were using the new MobileMe Calendar on your iPad prior to
updating to iOS 4.2, you should:

• delete the CalDAV calendar you manually configured on your iPad
• set the calendar slider to "on" in your MobileMe account

This will prevent the appearence of a duplicate calendar. For step-by-step
instructions, please see this article. "

Re: Firefox crashing

2010-11-22 Thread Ronda Brown
Hi John,

If you are sure you have installed the correct version for your Mac. Check any
plugins you have added. To find the plugin that is causing the problem. Go to
Tools > Add-On’s. From this list, it will show every plugin that is currently
loaded.
To find the problem plugin, disable every single one. Also uninstall all of the
ones you don’t need. The more plugin’s you have the slower Firefox is. Once you
have disabled every single one restart Firefox, and start one at a time. Surf
the web, if it survives enable the next one. So on and so forth.

Check with your HTML editor that the link is correct - ie. of the
form http://something. Sometimes web page generators make local
links (ie. of the form c:/something) which work when you look at
the web page on your computer but obviously are incorrect if the

Hi Yvonne,

I'm not sure of your problem exactly. Check that you haven't placed
the links in the top section of the page that iWeb reserves for the
title.
(If you view layout, you'll see the horizontal line).Your links
must be below that line.

Re: iPhone 3G repair

2010-11-22 Thread Ronda Brown

Hi Mark,

You didn't answer my questions, so I don't know what iPhone you have, whether
it is a jail broken iPhone.
If you have installed a 'pirated' or suspect app just before you started to
experience this springboard crash and error, delete them.
Do you have any idea which icon is causing the problem? Did the crash happen
when you clicked on one icon ... If so delete it!

To delete an iPhone app (application), just press and hold one of the iPhone
app icons -- it doesn't matter which one -- on screen, until all the icons
appear to get nervous and start wiggling around. When this behaviour starts,
all of your third-party iPhone applications will show an "X" icon in the
upper-left corner of their application icon.

Click on this link it will take you to instructions: How to delete/uninstall an
iPhone app (iPhone application)

Cheers,
Ronni
