Re: ITunes Music store is down,..

2006-09-13 Thread Martin Hill
Interesting to note it says iTunes Store not iTunes Music Store too.
:-)

I would think the chances of us here in the Second World getting the
movies and TV shows at last would be pretty remote though. :-(

It continues to amaze me how high a profile in the Public Consciousness
Apple has now. The press is just going gaga over every little thing Apple
does - all it took this time were two words! (It's Showtime)

It continues to be great time to be a Mac user.

I just hope Steve and the gang can sate people's expectations. It's getting
harder and harder to compete with al the inflated imagination.

Re: Itunes Music Store Rebuffering .. more info

2006-04-12 Thread Lloyd White

I have ADSL at (supposedly) 512 and iTunes 6.0.4 (3) and am operating OS
10.4.6.

When I go to the Apple iTunes Music Store and try to sample some music it
connects instantly and then stops to Rebuffer. I only get about 4 seconds
of music and then it stops and Rebuffers again. And again and again.
Hopeless for listening to anything.

Is this a common problem and can it be fixed? I don't recall having this
problem before the latest update. OSX 10.4.6

Lloyd

Further to my previous email above

I checked with my PowerBook using the same version of iTunes but with OSX
10.4.5 and have no problem getting instant samples from the music store.
Same modem. It seems to be an OS 10.4.6 problem. Christian suggested I tick
the preferences that says load complete preview before playing. This stops
the constant rebuffering but it takes 70 seconds to load 30 seconds of
music.

Does anyone else experience this?

Lloyd

Hi Lloyd,

Try: iTunes /preferences /Store/ and tick load complete preview

I did this a while back after having the same problem over our wireless

Fwd: iTunes Music Store Gift card

2005-10-31 Thread Gwen

Hello.

because, I didn't receive any answer last week, I repost my request.

I am not an Australian user, but a French one.

I have visit the new Australian iTunes music store and like in some
other country, it's possible to have a free song every weeks. because
I don't live in Australia, it's impossible for me to subscribe to
this store and get this song.

The only solution that I have fond to download for an iTms from an
other country, is to open an account with a Gift certificates. and
when the credit is over, I still have the possibility to download the
free song every week like I do for the US or Japan store.

So, I'm writing to this list to find someone who can send me this
type of Gift certificate. For sure, I will pay for everything (Maybe
with Pay-Pall).

Also, if someone from Australia want to have a French account, I can
also send a Gift certificate from my country.

Thanks.

Gwen.

Very true but these laws are pretty easy to ignore since they aren't
really enforced in any way.

Wow. I never expected it would be so easy. I guess I just assumed
that it would be a lot more difficult to transfer the file into a MP3
since part of the design behind ACC was supposed to prevent piracy.
Perhaps I could see myself using the ITMS, that is if it ever comes out
over here in Australia.
One thing though... I heard that making an MP3 from an existing MP3
greatly degrades the quality of the file because it has already been
compressed. Since ACC is also a format for compression is this rule
applicable?
I'm not quite sure if converting into standard CD audio before encoding
will bypass this.\

iTunes Music Store (this works!)

2004-11-26 Thread Peter Hinchliffe
In their infinite wisdom, Apple have seen fit to deny access to the
iTunes Music Store those of us not fortunate enough to live in the
correct counties.

However, there is a way to get into the store through a back door. In
iTunes 4.6 and 4.7, there is a small round arrow icon in the same
column as the song title. This icon acts as a link between a song title
in your library and its corresponding listing at the ITMS. All you need
to do is click the link and you enter the store, as long as the link is
valid. Once in, you can navigate around as usual. Just don't click the
Home button. It takes you back outside.

Does anyone know if you can convert music from bigpondmusic.com (WMA format)
into MP3s? Telstra claim 500,000 songs, and from what I have seen they have
a decent collection (depending on your taste of course!).

If Telstra have beaten Apple Australia to the punch with licensing music
available in Australia, maybe the iTunes Music Store is going to be another

Not that I condone it (I can't stress that point any harder!), but I can see

I am going to feel dirty for saying this, but you can't actually blame
Telstra for this one.

WiMP 9 for Mac only supports a much older version of the Digital
Restriction Management software that the record labels use to price-fix
and generally screw over their customers. Telstra only use a much newer
version of this bludgeon device and it is not supported in WiMP 9 for
Mac.

So although you can't blame Telstra for this one... you can still blame
Microsoft, and that makes me feel better.

iTunes Music Store To Open In Australia In Next Few Weeks?

2004-10-21 Thread Richard Kay

From www.appleinsider.com
By AppleInsider Staff
Published: 10:00 AM EST

An overseas report indicates that Apple is primed to debut its iTunes
Music Store in the land of Oz.

Citing music industry sources, a recent report in the Australian
Financial Review confidently claims that Apple will launch its
long-awaited iTunes Music Store in Australia in the next few weeks.

While most of the negotiations for the Australian version of the
iTunes service have been conducted through the global parents of the
Australian music labels, meaning that the date of an Australian launch
has been a well-guarded secret, record companies that are based in
Australia are said to have finished negotiations with Apple over
pricing and terms and are now readying to launch the service.

According to the report, the localized version of the store might sell
music tracks for as little as 99¢ a track, Australian. This is far
cheaper than the US store, which sells music for US99¢ ($1.35) per
track, and below the break-even point in Australia, said to be $1.45
per track.

The accuracy of the report remains unknown, though if true, Apple would
be in a position to unveil the music store alongside its new wave of
European iTunes music stores, which are set to launch at a special
music event on Oct. 26th.

Windows Media Player 9 and iTunes Music Store (iTMS)

2003-11-08 Thread Daniel Kerr
Hi All

For those interested Windows released Windows Media Player 9 today
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/software/macintosh/osx/defaul
t.aspx

Apparently this format is used by the new legal Napster which is working
on a Mac client shortly.

On another side note, Napster sold 300,000 songs in it's first week, this
last week. Apple's iTunes Music Store sold over 1.5 million songs. ;o) (It
accounts for about 80% market share of legally purchased downloads).
http://www.macnn.com/news/21928

All good for Apple! Now,...if only the iTMS was here,..I wonder how they're
going to get it here for Christmas, as was rumoured earlier this year.

Enjoy!

not yet... one lives in hope this is not to distant a role out.

Artists get 91%/Agent (CDbaby) gets 9% of sale

Now there's a royalty system I can really support :) :)

... I can see this sort of thing becoming really big with collage
and indie bands that have strong local following (so say like WA's
The Stems) can release a local CD but can't currently justify
having these distributed to more than a handfull of eastern states/
US/UK music stores where they are only known because of underground
and collage radio.

And it sure beats having to order a physical CD over the Internet.

Ah Apple, the only company that prefers no news to good news...

Apart from the issue of self published artists not being invited (hey
that's what co-op labels are for my fellow musical friends) then this
actually comes through as pretty positive stuff to get out and about
to both the purchasing public and the grass roots of the music
industry

if I were an independent label I could only wish I was grossing this
much per song using old fashion CD vinal.

Streaming audio? and Music Store

2003-06-06 Thread Darrel McGuiness

Dear members,
This is my first cry for help, so please be kind.
I have just tried to use itunes and Music Shop; with the following result:-
after nominating a tune and waiting for the 30seconds of play; what I
get is play for 1to 3 seconds

then this message in an Network Stalled box rebuffering stream.
then play for another 7 seconds, then same message again, then repeated again.
Is my problem, computer speed, modem speed, or Act of God.
I have: G4 400, 768MB mem, OS 10.2.6, Quiicktime V6.2, and Itunes V4.
My ISP is Optus and they suggest this is an normal occurence with a 56K modem.
If this is true does this mean most country residents are unable to
utilise this function.

Hoping for help, Darrel

Did you read the bit about Itunes Music store not being available in
your country yet?

As it's not available here chances are the music is being streamed
from the US, which wouldn't help its performance or reliability.

Thanks,
Shay

Darrel,

If you go to your itunes preferences and select store you have the
option to Load complete preview before playing

It takes a bit longer but you won't get those annoying rebuffering
stream messages.

Nope, all iTMS clips are played through Akamai which does have a Western
Australia peering server. The problem is much more likely the 56k modem.
