I've been waiting on my copy of (purchased) iLife which has yet to ship
from Apple.

They have just told me that there are no copies of iLife in Australia
and they won't start shipping from Sydney until early-mid next week.

Hi WAMUG folks.

I came across this URL ( http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/ )in my

There are step-by-step (text) instructions, plus Quicktime movie

Handy for both the pro, and not-quite-pro users of the various iLife

Yes and no. You might be lucky and have an iBook that has only recently
shipped from Apple and has iLife 05 pre-installed. Otherwise all
AppleCentres (not sure about other dealers) have been sent NFR packs of
iLife 05 to throw in to the boxes of all their machines in stock that do not
have iLife 05 installed.

So one way or another you will get ilife 05 as part of your iBook purchase
tomorrow :-)

I can confirm that iLife 04 will instal with 10.3.9 if you use a work
around .

Read this message from Ronda Brown ;

Unable to install iLife '04 over iTunes 4.7.1
If you installed iTunes 4.7.1 and try to then install or reinstall
iLife '04, you'll get an alert indicating that an iLife application is
still running even if you have already quit iTunes, GarageBand, iPhoto,
iMovie, and iDVD.

This happens because the iLife Installer is seeing a background program
called "iTuneshelper," and is mistaking it for iTunes. To workaround
the issue, bypass the login items by following these steps:

From the Apple menu, choose Log Out.
Log back in and immediately hold the Shift key down. Release the Shift
key when you get to the Finder. This will keep iTuneshelper from
loading.

Install iLife '04.
Restart the computer to allow the login items to load again.

Cheers,

Ronni

iLife Success

2003-02-21 Thread Reg Whitely

Dear WAMUGgers

As a follow-up to my query re installing iLife over already installed
iPhoto 2, iTunes 3 and iMovie 3 downloaded installers on a Superdrive
using the DVD installer, I can report success. Many thanks to Keith and
Richard for your (combined) solutions, which may be of interest.

Keith replied:
"hmmm worked for me you might have already downloaded the .01
version of iMovie ... if so delete this app and try again"

Richard replied:
"Apparently there is a custom install option on the iLife disk - just
select
the iDVD program. Alternatively from Apple discussions...'The Apple
Care
support folks advised me to delete ./Library/Receipts/iTunes3.pkg and
then
do the full install' - note that the iMovie on ilife is v 3.0.0,
whereas the

download is 3.0.1, so you shouldn't overwrite the downloaded version.
Macfixit.com also has solutions, but you will need a subscription to
access

their archives."

I could not find a custom install option on the DVD disk. I found the
./Library/Receipts/iTunes3.pkg file and dragged it to Trash, then ran
the installer. It worked, seemingly reinstalling everything. Upon
restart, all seems Ok. iTunes needed to do a hunt for all obscure music
hidden in all cracks of the Superdrive but then ran Ok. iPhoto opens Ok.

It's interesting that the new iLife disk has old software on it,
compared to the downloaded version. iMovie opened Ok and still shows
version 3.0.1. It seems the same - notwithstanding some published
issues with the new software. I haven't used it yet 'in earnest' so
can't comment on such things. Maybe the 3.0.1 update resolves these
issues.

Re issues, Quentin Hall on MACED list notes: "Ummm, speed for a start.
Move a few clips to the edit bar. When a G4 (late last years) with 512
RAM and 160 Gb of HD runs at snails pace, something's wrong. See other
emails for the top 3 or 4 that I have found."

iDVD loads Ok. I now need someone to teach me what to do with it.

I think if you follow Keith's advice it would work too, but then you
would need to reinstall the iMovie 3.0.1 download.

What does the ./Library/Receipts/... file do anyway?

Regards

Reg

Re: iLife 08 or iLife 09 which is best ?

2009-08-22 Thread Martin Hill

iMovie 09 by itself is worth getting the latest iLife for.

It finally adds just about all the missing features from iMovie HD
that iMovie 08 left out plus adds a bunch of excellent new features.
Worth the learning curve.

It can even handle effects like a basic picture-in-picture effect
something which you'd normally have to turn to Final Cut Pro for.

Places and Faces in iPhoto is also fun.

I just wish Apple would fix iWeb or at least bring out an iWeb Pro.
Dreamweaver drives me up a wall with its PC-port feel, while iWeb is
so much more elegant but it is just too basic and buggy to be much use
in the real world.

Hi Bob,

All depends what best suits your individual needs. iLife '09 has
improvements over iLife '08.

iMovie '09 is much improved to '08. Stabilization & Precision Editing
for me is the best improvement & most important to me.

Video effects rendering in real time is another good feature.
Also the return of iDVD chapter markers and direct-to-iDVD exporting,
and the capability to adjust multiple clips at once.

The return of fast and slow motion I'm pleased to have.

iPhoto '09 Faces is a new way of organising heaps of photos very
quickly and I find that useful.
Places I find very interesting. Places uses embedded GPS data to
place your photos on a map and you can use this information to make
map-based video travelogues. I haven't tried this yet, but it is good
for iPhone shots, the iPhone embeds GPS co-ordinates in every photo it
takes and there are people who use and need GPS information in their
photos.
Facebook and Flickr uploading don't really interest me, but I have
family & friends who love this feature.

Garage Band I don't use, but it has some very good improvements.
Songwriting mode & New Lessons, shows a video and then displays the
chords played on a virtual guitar or piano. It even has a guitar tuner
built in.

iDVD didn't get much of a make-over. I was expecting more, perhaps
Apple will bring out something more when Snow Leopard releases.

iWeb has also improved. Sharing works so effortlessly and quickly with
iLife Media Browser.

A full list of the new features can be found here: <http://www.apple.com/ilife/imovie/new-features.html

Ronni

ilife / iphoto query

2008-11-13 Thread Mike Lefroy
I would like help with an iphoto problem. My computer crashed and I
re- booted from my laptop and reinstalled. Everything is fine except
for parts of ilife - iphoto in particular. When I activate the iphoto
icon on the desktop it bounces twice and then stops. The same goes
for garage band and iweb. itunes, imovie and idvd all open. When I
try and open iweb a report comes up - "Files that ilife needs are
missing. To restore the missing files use the ilife installer to
reinstall ilife" . I have reinstalled several times but the same
message still appears. I keep my iphoto library on a separate hard
drive.

Any ideas?

I have Mac mini PowerMac10,1 using Mac OS X 10.4.11 system. I also
have a Mac book 2.1 using 10.4.11 system.

Help with iLife

2005-03-29 Thread KEVIN Lock

Using an eMac 700mhz with 10.3.8 and plenty of ram.

I just purchased iLife '04 and cannot install it. The installer does
not allow custom installation and when I run 'Install' it tells me
that it cannot be installed on this machine because one of the
packages is running. None of the components is in fact running and I
restarted the eMac to ensure that.

Is it likely that it is because the iTunes and iMovie I have already
on the machine are later versions? I downloaded 'Pacifist' to try a
custom install, but that does not recognise the install box on the CD.

Anyone had a similar problem and may be able to shed some light on it?

TIA

Kevin

Hi Stephen,

We have iLife '06, iWork '06 and new iMac in stock. Give me a call on 0428
184 818 if you haven't had any luck today.

For anyone and everyone interested... We are fairly 'out of the way' being
in Albany and we are the only regional AppleCentre in WA, but we can
post/courier to Perth and in some cases if we have an order for items not in
stock we can arrange direct shipping. We carry a wide range of products
including Apple computers/software/games/accessories etc and the full iPod
range. Plus we have third party stuff like external drives, Eye TV, LCD
displays, Midi Keyboards, cameras, printers, MFCs, scanners, ADSL modems,
switches, routers, VOIP, headphones etc etc etc. We also supply, build,
repair and support PCS for those who choose the dark side of the Windoze
world.

And if you're seeking quality Apple service/repairs we have two of the best
techs in WA. We're just 400km away! :-)

iLife 11 & iPhoto

2012-02-04 Thread Adrian Skehan
Good morning all,

I have iLife 11 which I purchased when it was first released, it includes
iPhoto 9.2.1, iMovie 9.0.4 iDVD 7.1.2, GarageBand 6.0.4 & the no longer
supported iWeb 3.0.4 (all updated) yet the apple store site advertises iPhoto
11, iMovie 11, iDVD 11, & GarageBand 11 as part of iLife. Does anyone out
there know if there is a difference in these products or is it just a
name/number change? and can any of them (version 11) be bought as separate
applications?

iLife 08 - HD Full

2007-10-11 Thread David Wood

Hi All,

I have this week installed iLife 08. I am not sure why but suddenly
the disk space on my HD has become fully utilised?! I suspect it has
something to do with iPhoto as when I check the iPhoto Library on my
HD it says I have used 52GB but on the iPhoto screen when I check the
library it says only 17.2 GB. I think therefore I have maybe 2 extra
back ups that have been performed but no matter where I search I
cannot find the folders/files. Can anyone please advise as to how I
can easily look at the size of all files/folders to identify where
the space on my HD has been utilised and how I can delete and get
space back.

I am using an iMac G5 with 150GB HD and 1.25GB DDR SDRAM on Version
10.4.10.

Thanks in advance.

We ordered a copy of iLife '06 from the online Apple Store last week (9am
Friday) and received a black 4GB iPod Nano on Monday morning. After a
micro-second's temptation to keep the Nano as just recompense for being a
Mac user since '87 ;-) , I arranged for the person whose name was
actually on the box to pick up his Nano and waited for the courier to come
back with our copy of iLife. Thankfully, he turned up a couple of hours
later suitably apologetic.

So if you want a $360 Black iPod Nano for $89, order your copy of iLife '06
today! ;-)

Hi Reg,

Well, all being well we'd certainly like to. Looking after people in the
'country' is a little different to the City and we believe we do it well.
We're a little more down to earth and a lot more patient. For example, every
Mac we sell, we set up for the customer, do all the updates, test the
drives/writers, configure Internet, check for bad/bright pixels, connect
peripherals (printer/scanner) and generally set up so that the customer can
take it home, turn it on and go. It's more satisfying than being handed a
"box", which most other places do, especially the Myer/David Jones/Harvey
Normans.
We think it would be great to focus on being regional, although we have some
very good people who do work for us in Perth too. So maybe, next year!!!

Stuart

Ilife 06 and iPhoto

2006-01-31 Thread Lloyd White
I have just upgraded to iLife 06. Disaster.

I have three iPhoto libraries controlled by iPhoto Manager.

Two of the recently added Libraries have upgraded and work well. The third
is the original with 3500 photos on it. All I now see are grey outlines of
where the photos were. Nothing in them although it says there are 3500
photos and the albums are there indicating full photos. Each album contains
the same grey dotted box outlines of the photos.

I have trashed the appleiPhotoplist file from the preferences and repaired
permission and verified the hard disk with Disk Utilities. All OK but
nothing has changed.

I made a back-up of all photos on an external hard disk before upgrading so
I know I have them but why can't I see them in iPhoto?

Are there any ideas please?

RE: Installing iLife 04

2007-02-12 Thread David Moyle
Hey Merv

Common problem, bit of a mistake on Apple's part but it happened after the
software was released..

It's a bit technical but open Activity Monitor which is located in
Applications >> Utilites.

Once open look in the list for a 'Process Name' called iTunes_Helper.

Click this and then click 'Quit Process' in the top of that window.

Close the program and try installing iLife again.

The Reason?
iTunes Helper was added with iTunes 6 a few years ago, where iTunes 04 only
installs iTunes 5 I believe, the upgrade (downgrade) iTunes it needs to be
completely closed and it won't do it. (Make Sense??) When installing just
make sure you don't install iTunes because you'll have a newer version then
what the CD will provide.

Hi Merv

Arrr yes, this one I know well.
The most common reason for this is a little item running in your System
Login set. (It's there by default.)
If you go to System Preferences, then into Accounts. Have a look in your
Login Items (Or under 10.2.8 they may be directly in System Preferences).
Here you should see an item called something like "iTunesHelper".
Click on it and delete it (using the little - symbol). It should then be
removed from the list.
Once you've done this, restart and all should be well.

(You actually need to delete the item from the list.)

Try that and it should work.
(I just tried to google where I'd see Apple's response to it,...but can't
find it now.)

Hope that helps.

Kind Regards
Daniel

Re: Installing iLife 04

2007-02-12 Thread Ronda Brown

Daniel & David are correct.

Another way to install iLife 04 after iTunes 4.7.1 is already installed.

This happens because the iLife Installer is seeing a background
program called "iTuneshelper," and is mistaking it for iTunes.

To workaround the issue, bypass the login items by following these
steps:

From the Apple menu, choose Log Out.
Log back in and immediately hold the Shift key down. Release the
Shift key when you get to the Finder.

This will keep iTuneshelper from loading.
Install iLife '04.
Restart the computer to allow the login items to load again.

Cheers,
Ronni

2007-02-12 Thread Mervyn & Giuliana Bond

Thanks to Ronni, David and Daniel
Learning theorists say that when confronted with competing strategies
one usually chooses one that has characteristics similar to a
previous successful strategy. In the olden days one restarted
holding down the Shift key to turn off preferences. So, I went for
Ronni's approach. And it worked fine. David, I heeded your advise
and skipped installing iTunes as I have 6.0.5 on already. To be even
handed I did remove the itunes helper from the Log on list, Daniel.
I trust that won't upset iTunes.

Thank you all for your help.

applications is running - iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie. Please quit the

To the best of my knowledge none of them are running. I have
disconnected from the Net, in System Preferences I have turned off
items in the Login Items, set CD/DVDs to ignore, turned off Play
Movies automatically in QTime, turned off Speech in Universal.
Restarted after these changes - no luck.
Shut down and restarted - no luck.

Suggestions appreciated

Daniel

iLife and iDVD Dilemma

2003-02-20 Thread Reg Whitely

Dear WAMUGgers

I have already installed iPhoto 2, iTunes 3 and iMovie 3 on our school
Superdrive using downloaded software. Now I have iLife DVD installer
and wish to install new iDVD 3 software, but the installer tells me it
cannot install (all 4 packages) as there is newer software already
installed. There is no option to install just one application. How can
I install iDVD 3 without needing to uninstall the other three?

Hi Adrian,

To answer part of your question I purchased iPhoto 11 separately from the Mac
App Store and it is labelled as version 9.2.1 (628).

Ah... and to finish the answer, one can use the Mac App Store application to
see product version numbers. Search for iMove, for example, and then click on
the icon to see the write up for the app. iMovie is version 9.0.4. etc.

And by the way get the box set of iWork, iLife and Snow Leopard for a

Got mine from Macs-4-u in Midland.

Be careful when updating to Snow Leopard making sure that you have no

Swine Leopard unless you go to Terminal and delete/edit those file.

I don't know enough about hidden file but Macs-4-u sorted my iMac so I

Hi Bill,

I would think iLife '10 & possibly iWork '10 will be updated in the
next 4-5 months.

Macworld 2010 - February 9-13, 2010 might be a release date? .

The updated versions I would expect take advantage of the new core
services in Snow Leopard and be 64-bit.

But that would mean they will only run on Snow Leopard.

If you need iLife '09 & iWork '09 the "Mac Box Set" is a good price.
Otherwise wait until next year for the updated versions.

ilife 04 upgrade - bah humbug

2004-01-31 Thread Greg Colgan
Don't you just hate it when you buy a new puter and shortly thereafter, a
new suite of software comes as standard? I bought a new laptop a few days
before Xmas and now find out that computers purchased on or after Jan 6
without iLife, qualify for a AUD$35 dollar upgrade - which includes
GarageBand. Normal price is $129 for the family edition.

Some of those bits and pieces in iLife are identical versions to what I
already have, so it's annoying that due to a matter of a couple of weeks, I
have to shell out full price to get my hands on GarageBand.

In case you bought later than I did, offer closes March 26. See

Minor iLife '05 upgrade gripe

2005-01-31 Thread Toby Oldham

Bought a new G5 last week, having a ball - noted though it didn't come
with iLife '05. Called Apple, was told to go back to my place of
purchase and sort it through them. Said place of purchase pointed out
that you have to 'upgrade' to iLife '05 (at a cost of $30) via the
Apple website.

Jump to the Apple website, where it refuses to recognise my serial
number. Another call to the Apple website and I'm told to fax a copy of
my receipt (along with a printed Application form).

I wish Apple had told me about the fax/receipt/upgrade thing in the

iLife '06 in stock anywhere?

So does anyone know if any local Apple resellers have iLife '06 in stock?
(hey I can be hopeful can't I?) :-)

The updates to iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD and Garageband all look fantastic and

I'm keen to purchase an initial copy ASAP (at the educational price).

New intel macs & iLife 06

2006-01-16 Thread Neil Houghton
Well, my crystal ball is definitely tarnished. After thinking about where
the different products were in their update cycles I was thinking maybe a
new Mac mini and/or iBook. Even though it had been recently updated, I guess
the Powerbook wasn't too big a surprise given it was still lagging in its G4
incarnation.

But the iMac... a significant upgrade in October and a while after that
before supply met demand I thought I would be holding the latest
version for at least a few more months when I gave myself one for Xmas!!

Not that I'm too upset... Having one of the first intel macs might be a bit
too bleeding edge for me!! Which I guess is the point of this post - a few
questions:

- Has anyone had a chance yet to play with one of the new intel Macs?
- Impressions good/bad features?
- What of the big software titles are compatible/need upgrades (when
available)
- I'm particularly wondering about VPC or can you just run Windows directly
on the Intel box?

On a related front, I see the new macs come with iLife 06 whereas the old
models are still listed (in the Apple Store) with iLife 05 - which is what I
got when I bought my iMac (just over 2 weeks ago). Is iLife 06 just an intel
version or is it an across the board upgrade - if so can I get it via
software update or would I have to buy it (full or upgrade price).

Cheers

Re: Ilife 06 and iPhoto

2006-02-01 Thread Susan Hastings
Hi, this happened to me using EyeTV home. Because iphoto 6 uses a
different file structure, all I was getting when showing my photos on
the TV is the grey boxes. When I looked on the Elgato support pages,
they acknowledged the problem, and suggested putting links to the
photos in the Pictures folder, which are then accessible. I don't
have my usual albums, but could do them in the Pictures folder.
Elgato will have to update the EyeTV Home programme to work with
iPhoto 6.

However, in iPhoto 6 itself, I have access to the photos, so am not
sure what happened in your case. On my computer, the photos are in
the iPhoto folder in a sub-folder called 'originals'. So, I don't
think they've disappeared altogether.

It would be worthwhile to check support pages on Apple because I
imagine other people are having problems too and there is probably a
workaround.

cheers, Susan.

Hi Bob,

Unable to install iLife '04 over iTunes 4.7.1
If you installed iTunes 4.7.1 and try to then install or reinstall
iLife '04, you'll get an alert indicating that an iLife application
is still running even if you have already quit iTunes, GarageBand,
iPhoto, iMovie, and iDVD.

This happens because the iLife Installer is seeing a background
program called "iTuneshelper," and is mistaking it for iTunes. To
workaround the issue, bypass the login items by following these steps:

From the Apple menu, choose Log Out.
Log back in and immediately hold the Shift key down. Release the
Shift key when you get to the Finder. This will keep iTuneshelper
from loading.

Install iLife '04.
Restart the computer to allow the login items to load again.

Re: iLife 11 - iPhoto & iMovie problems

2010-12-26 Thread Ronda Brown

Hi Adrian,

Did you let iPhoto complete upgrading your Library?

You could try:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in
your User/Library/Preferences folder.

2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in the
User/Library/Application Support/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.

3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.

If you are stil experiencing problems, "Rebuild the iPhoto Library"

Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the
instructions to rebuild the library.

2010-12-26 Thread Ronda Brown

Hi Adrian,

If that is the situation, I would suggest you reinstall iPhoto & iMovie'11 &
upgrade both applications before opening either. Then let iPhoto upgrade the
Library (don't interrupt the iPhoto library upgrade).

Is the iPhoto library & iMovie in the correct place on your iMac?

I'm on a break so can only assist when able.

Re: iLife 11 - iPhoto & iMovie problems

2010-12-28 Thread Adrian Skehan

Good morning all.

Thanks Ronni, I tried all that and with the help of the Apple Help Desk a few
others. The problem was apparently deep in the OS which refused to reveal
itself so the final solution was to re-format the drive and reinstall
everything. Thank goodness for Time Machine.

Re: iLife & iMovie - old version - THANK YOU

2006-07-03 Thread Tony Evers
I have received a number of offers of the iLife '04 software for our
school - and am even able to pass on a copy to another small school
that needs it.

Thank you to everyone who responded so generously - WAMUG people are
great human beings - your generosity will allow us to get a bit more
life out of our ageing school network (hopefully being upgraded in
2007) and let the students get on with some video editing via iMovie.

Thanks again.

How do I reinstall iLife, or even just, iDVD, from Tiger installation disk?

2007-05-05 Thread Steven
In May 2004 I bought a 17² G4 PowerBook. I can¹t remember what OS it had
installed at time of purchase, but I think I subsequently bought Tiger 10.4
- I have the installation disk for it anyway. The PowerBook currently runs
10.4.9.

In about March 06 my hard disk crashed. I took the PowerBook in for
replacement hard disk, and the Apple repair shop reinstalled OSX, I think
from their own resources. I can't recall the reason now, but iDVD, iPhoto,
wasn't installed. I inquired with the repair shop and I think they said that
I'd have to install those items from the original installation disk. I've
never bothered to do that until now, just haven't needed them, but now I
have a reason to use iDVD, so have pulled out the installation disk.

My problem is that I can't find anything on the installation disk that looks
like a standalone installation of iDVD. If I click the 'Install Mac OS X'
icon, I'm asked to restart. I have followed the restart process, but it
doesn't seem to lead to a point that I can just install iDVD or iLife
without impacting on the system.

Anyone have any hints please?

Many thanks, Steven
