Your recipient's servers may have anti-spam programs installed. These often flag newsletters as spam and block them. Have one or two of your recipients add your sender address to their white list and try again. Under friends help, I chose ASP AccessDB technology. I downloaded a program "newsletter.zip" from: http://aspin.com/home/webapps/email/lists?sort=price&order=asc I unzipped the file into wwwroot of IIS server. I set up the newsletter.mdb with three email address of my own for testing. It seems working all right. With "newslettershow.asp" I can see all the email addresses. With "newslettercreate.htm", I can write an email and send them out. When sending emails,it promts "newslettercreat.asp" page and displays the mails being sent out one by one. BUT, all the sent out emails no one was received by the receiver!! I know these mails are sent out by SMTP in the IIS in my PC. Is it a reliable method? Could you suggest me? Make sure outlook express is set to html format. You could also try copy and paste from your html client to an html formatted email body. Hi everyone, I'm stumped here. A client's asked me if I could creat an html email for her, but when I try to follow the instructions on how to do it, Outlook Express crashes on me with a MSIMN.exe error. This is the instructions I was following: (it crashes at #5 when I try to insert text from file.) Any help would be greatly appreciated! Alida 1. Open your favorite html editor ie FrontPage 2000, Dreamweaver 4 or MX (you can also use MS Word 97 or 2000 but it tends to bloat the code a little) to create your email. 2. Always use absolute URLS for your graphics (ie http://www.ihost-websites.com/images/header.gif ) 3. Graphics (ie images, icons, fancy fonts) must be stored on a web server to correctly appear in email software - you could save it as an attachment, however most folks will not open the attachment especially (and delete it) if it's from someone they don't know. If you don't want to use graphics, you can use colored tables for different sections (ie header, masthead, contact information and footers). 4. Name and save the page you have created (ie htmlemail.htm). 5. Open your Email Software - in outlook express (since it's the most popular) go to create mail - insert - text from file - scroll to your saved html page. You are now ready to send your html email. 6. Email a test to yourself before your send it to your subscriber list. You may want to send it to your friends who have different email programs so you can be sure most of your subscribers can read it on their computers. (Was: Re: Word V PDF (OT?)) Thanks, Jan, but no go! This is really baffling! I checked my 'hosts' file and the only entry in it is 127.0.0.1 localhost. I checked my 'connections' setting in IE's options and could see nothing amiss there. I have three different connectoids on my system and each goes through a *different* ISP - none of them worked! As I mentioned before, this has been going on for a month now! I have tried multiple links provided by Google and here and not a single one of them works! I can surf anywhere else I like - just not to any adobe or syntrillium link. If I didn't know better, I'd think the IP#'s I'm calling in from were blocked by adobe, but all three of them!?! I doubt it. Especially since two of them are major ISP's - Earthlink and DragonBBS! BTW, until this began about four weeks ago, I never had a problem reaching adobe. [wdvltalk] Re: test - the Zone Alarm has really messed up my computer...
You might be able to extract uncorrupted versions of those files from your installation disk using system file checker. I don't know which versions of windows had it, but search for sfc.exe What I usually do though is obtain a clean copy and put it in an easily accessible folder, then write a bat file to do the transferring from DOS during a restart. [wdvltalk] Re: How is the virus?
I got several emails with the virus attached through my Paint Shop Pro Group email address, but I did not open the attachment. My anti-virus program detected all but the first one. It updated its definitions between the first and the next few. I did a bad thing by allowing my spam filter to bounce it though. The from and reply to addresses were spoofed so well that neither Mailwasher nor Norton detected it as an invalid address. Most of my organization's email addresses are ending up on blacklists because of spoofing and one of my home email addresses. To access the settings and the help files for your router, you usually only have to open your internet browser and type in the ip that you got from ipconfig as the internet address. In Netscape 7.01, firebird, and Mozilla the words do not scroll and there is a huge blue area beneath your footer. In the process, I thought that I would also avoid some of the repetition of code for sidebar menus, etc. by using the syntax to build the menu once and reference it on all pages. I found remarkably little information on this on the Web (lots of stuff on C++, ASP, etc., little on HTML includes). When I tested the above syntax in my design environment (AceHTML Pro), it didn't work, i.e. nothing wrong, just no menu appeared. Am I using the syntax incorrectly, or since #include is a server directive, should I even expect to see the expected behavior before uploading to the server? OTOH, is there another way to accomplish the desired objective without using #include? Certainly! :D Mozilla is a browser, email client, news reader and html editor all in one. I already have an email client (Ximian's Evolution), I very rarely use usenet anymore, and I have screem and bluefish as my html editors. This means I don't need 3/4 of the things that come with Mozilla. Firebird is just the browser, Thunderbird (IIRC) is the email/newsgroup reader. Its purely because I don't want to duplicate my programes. (that and the fact that I love open source and there's rumours that Mozilla is going to cease as we know it and evolve into firebird anyways!) Mail configuration depends upon how their technicians set up the server. I found my email configuration instructions on my host's web site for my business account but I had to get instructions by phone for my ISDN connection. incoming could be something like this: pop3.server.net or mail.server.net outgoing could be any of these or something else entirely: relay.server.net or smtp.server.net AuntySpam, SLP Coordinator, pspug.org http://www.pspug.org/edu/edu.shtml http://www.pspug.org/edu/slp/assign.shtml http://www.pspug.org/edu/slp/slpparticipants.htm - Original Message - From: "jac - WDVL" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Sunday, October 05, 2003 6:50 AM Subject: [wdvltalk] FAO: (Irish) ISDN users Hiya people, I have a client that has a business ISDN account with Eircom. There is a Trojan horse virus running rampant on the net lately that redirects your browser, adds a bunch of bookmarks to your favorites, and changes your home page, as well as installing stuff on your desktop. [wdvltalk] server security question
What are measures you can take if you have gotten stuck with a web space provider whose security leaves much to be desired. Are there personal site "firewalls" one can use to beef up form submission security for example? Example: We want new users to be able to sign up by form submission but spammers have been using our site to do mass mailings. I need ideas for solutions to offer to my team. [wdvltalk] Re: What's with searchbus.com?
I use spybot search&destroy and ad-aware 6. Symantec has descriptions and instructions for getting rid of js.fortnight. By the way, js.fortnight was detected in my WDVL mail folder wdvl.dbx a few days ago. This is one of the redirection Trojan horses that has been running wild for the last two weeks or so in many mailing lists. One indication that you have it is an extra signature in your email client, usually s.html. There are some good free programs that will help you search and clean your computer of these components, ad aware comes to mind, try a google search for spyware removal and see what you come up with. I do not prefer PDF to anything more readable. If Acrobat Reader can't find the specified font, it provides the least readable alternative. I often have to resize to fit my full desktop and/or do a lot of scrolling which people hate. Maybe whoever told you that their people would prefer a pdf attachment are under the impression that viruses or trojans can't be sent that way. I used a trial program to encrypt some of my web pages. It was an experiment for my children's sake that I now regret. [wdvltalk] Re: Copyright was content theft and strange page
I read some news this week about a whole site dedicated to theft of copyrighted material. The U.S. Department of Justice seized the site, but I don't know what more is being done or can be done. I also thought that material you dated and added the © symbol to was protected without filing any papers. I actually don't understand the US idea of registering copyright. So far as I know in the UK it is enough to have committed something to paper for it to be one's copyright. I had understood that on the web copyright was instantaneous too. That only where copyright was specifically offered freely was there any right to copy. It used to be here that such material (before the web) *had* to have a copyright symbol with date and owner of the copyright and that copyright had a life of (either 50years or a period after the writers death). Some years ago that protection was increased to 70 years after the writers death, though I suspect that was to protect the interests of big business that had copyrights 'bought' from the copyright owner -like film producers and publishers of successful works. In the case of my problem (and I think others should check their most successful keywords). I am happy with my ownership of the copyright. There are two big issues to my mind. One is the reliability and good name of the Search Engines. The second is the question: why take so much trouble to cloak the information as to who is doing the stealing. I think it is everyone's concern. It may may an entirely new wheeze (oh, is that a UK colloquialism? it means idea or scam), that can be nipped in the bud. It may have only just started. When I first raised it on the list the links went to a blank page. Now that page appears to be acting like a fully paid for search engine and I have seen two entries, one of them Ebay - which is neither small nor ignorant of the ways of the web. It could harm their name too. Either they are paying someone to do this and can point the finger, or they too are being used to show the 'quality' of what is on this 'search engine'. Clearly it is trickery to steal anything from anywhere else for any advantage whatsoever; in this case I reckon that they see apotential and will do this stealing more and more to more and more people's copyright material. I think it is a matter of major concern to the list. The big problem is that it seems impossible to find out who is doing this. And it seems very difficult to approach the Search Engines. As I wrote to Michael I am still waiting for replies from the bigger engines. It is they who have the most to lose but they don't seem to like swimming with the minnows! I'm assuming there was some kind of "sticky" programming code on the page. I was using NN 7.0. I don't know how anyone on this list feels about web developers that use specific coding to prevent visitors from using the back button, and forcing them to stay on their client's page. Sure, in NN I can use the file menu "go" to skip back to the previous page, or to my home page, but I definitely believe that it's a lousy web developer tactic. The experience of not being able to go "back" made me angry, and I'm a web developer. Just think how angry other visitors/surfers might get. Ok, finished, that's my rant for today. I took some of the Bible quizzes with my Bible handy. Talk about lies and distortions. Not even an unbeliever twists the actual meaning of the words that badly.
