AirFiber 5 are getting good speeds at over 6 miles. Thanks

24 GHz is kind of far for 6.64 miles. Can you do 18 or 11ghz or airfiber5
would work.

Signal strength LEDs activate only when you are quite close to expected
signal level so don't rely on them too much.

Put a paper clip in the N connectors, extend it about 7mm above the end of the
connector and give it a 45 degree slant. One slant one way, the other slant
the opposite.

Looking for some feedback on AF5.
Looking at a 11.5 mile shot 40MHz channel.

It'll crush airmax radios in the beamwidth. Other than that, it's fast, low
latency... IDK what you're looking for?
Do you need async bandwidth? Why not two 20s or two 40s?

If I was spending this kind of money I would go licensed over AF5.. buy used
DragonWave compacts for chump change from some of the Bros on the list.
The 5Ghz band is just to chancy for mission critical backhauls and AF5 chews up
your money making spectrum.

Has anyone powered up an AF5 with DC yet? Does this work for all Airfiber
units regardless of band?

we have one at a solar site and we are powering it with the wbmfg
GigE-APC-POE
works great except that the AF5 is a power hog at 50Watts. We are using
the backhaul to burn thru one tree which is why we chose the AF5. it
actually does pretty well considering the nLOS.

the solar battery bank is a 24V system so we have an DC-DC inverter that

All the radios we use, regardless of manufacturer run on DC. They might
all use different voltages/polarities, but as far as I know, they are
all DC.
Both the AF5 and AF24 are power hogs, and use ~~ 50 watts. That means
the power has to be distributed over all 8 wires (to avoid overloading
Ouch. So instead of using 1 amp at 48VDC, you need 2 amps at 24VDC.
Just for that one radio. We've got sites with 4 radios using 1/2 the
power of one AF.

Your just taking it personally Chuck :) , I like your AF24’s plenty! I don’t
know if I could find used for $2k, but I bet I could get close. Definitely sub
$4k.. But yes used not new..

because with the AF5 i can adjust the channel width all the way up to 50Mhz
in each direction until i get the throughput desired at the lower
modulation rates. we've been looking at some other links that would
perform the same with less power usage.
all suggestions are welcome!!

The weight of AirFibers don't really change the tower you should use. The
