Fair enough point. The fact still remains though that crime, and
especially violent crime, seems to continue to be an issue. There is
alot of positive press coming out about Asbury Park...I get a weekly
letter from Tom Gilmour with what to do for the weekend and there are
lots of events sponsore
The Asbury Park Civic Participation Project (APCPP) will be hosting a candidate
forum on October 10th starting at 6PM. The forum will be held at the Asbury

The Monmouth County Democratic Candidates will be attending this even so come

There has always been crime in Asbury as long as I can remember. I was
always told when I first lived there in '82 that there had been constant unrest
since the race riots of '66, which led to the town going down the tubes because
people were afraid of living there. I don't know how much th

My original question was whether we needed to wait for the tax dollars
from the new condos to start coming in before there was enough money to
pay for more police to lower the crime in town. It sounds like there
already is enough money...it is just being wasted.
So, is the council doing anything
Police in this town are doing a hell of a job. We don't need to spend
more money. We need to take money being wasted in other areas of city
hall and give it all to the police. Mark Kinmon is great. Cut the fat
in city hall (cars, cars, cars). Stop paying health insurance for
council members. No

Well, first off, you are making assumptions about the people who post here.
Secondly, when I asked the council about this, I did so politely, with respect
and made my
point clear. A cocky attitude does not exist in me.

Wow. I don't get the blank stares...How do they think the developers
are going to sell $1M condos when people are shooting guns into the air
4 blocks away??? Paramount should be all over the council for that...

I went the next to last council meeting, and I posed the question of when do
they think they'll
be hiring new police officers, and I was met with blank stares from the
council. They never
even addressed it.
On the other hand, whenever I see AP police in action, they seem to be doing a
good job
If memory serves, I believe a couple of the things that Guiliani
implemented when he first became Mayor of NY are things that
should/would help here as well.
First was the revitalization of the cities biggest tourist
attraction - Time Square - which drove significant controversy at
the time
app.com reports that a woman from long branch fired into the air. They also have another story that a teen was shot on ridge and bangs

This city runs on enough money. Compare other towns in the area. Better allocation is needed. City should be taking steps to prepare for when state aid is lowered

Do you think that the answer is when new tax dollars start coming in,
the city will hire more police? Hope so. I also heard a rumor that
there will be a new police sub station put on the boardwalk in the near
future...apparantly other shore towns have this.

It seems that some of the crime that has plagued our city has
diminished, such as the prostitutes and their pimps, but now violent
crime is on the rise again.
Speeding also seems to be a bit out of control. I've seen people
racing up and down my street (1st Ave) going around 50 mph.
As for bikes on
I agree about the smaller infractions but what in the world is Asbury
Park doing or going to do about the violent crime in the city? It seems
that the residents just take it in stride or are getting immune to it
(hope not!)...but are people from outside Asbury going to buy these new
condos before
