Cops on horseback are good for nothing but cheesy tourist photos.
Criminals can hear clop-clop-clop from a block away and they cost a
fortune to maintain. I'd rather see cops on vespas, skateboards,
whatever! Please don't waste our money on frivolity, this town has too
much that needs to happen to

While I hate to say it I tend to agree. Generally officers on
horseback are ideal for crowd management and control given their sheer

I agree, my kids love them, but they are a luxury if your asking me.
They would be great to have if we had a bunch of money to spend and
wanted to impress the tourists, or had crowds of people, like NYC. I

Just want to be clear, I am not criticizing the cops themselves. I
come from a law enforcement family. I saw a lot of cops on foot
patrol in the summer. I see them on First Nights and such... But
there is nothing like having cops on foot all the time, on the
street, seeing what is going on...

If we have a 100 police officers (we really have that many??) then
they need to be more of a visible presence. I see a lot more cars on
patrol than I use to, but we still need a lot more on foot,
interacting with people, getting to know the people. I
Beginning this year we should have a total of 108
policeman employed for AP---We also have a large
presence of County and State officers patroling the
streets of Asbury Park.
Believe it or not---there has been a reduction in
crime in AP. Alot of crime that had not been reported
