I remember seeing some information at AVS Forum that almost all receiver / pre/pro volume controls are digital because they are digital encoders rather than variable resistors. AFAIK the only pre/pro that has a proper analog volume control is the Bryston SP 1.7, making it a true analog bypass. F

The wardrobe looks really nice! You should be able to get decent mid and treble, but bass is often a problem particularly when speakers are in corners. Floor standing speakers usually generate more bass than standmounts, so if you have a boomy bass problem that may not be the way to go. The lac

The Aegis 3s are quite well known for having a boomy bass. This will be accentuated because they have a rear port and you have placed them too close to the wall. If you can't move them out from the wall then you could try placing a pair of rolled up socks into each port (seriously). This may help

I think for 2k you can certainly improve your sound. A couple ideas in the meantime: - move your speakers off the back wall for listening (get the right one out in front of the wardrobe so you're not getting a big reflection off the side of it). You can always put them back when done. - a thick r

The photo helped a lot in understanding your setup. It doesn't look good. IMHO the speakers are too close to each other. What about positioning them on each side of the piano, a bit out from the wall perhaps -is there more width available there? Until you can place things better I would work on
