The DBX crossover will provide the ability to adjust gains for each
driver (sort of a loudness, coarse EQ), and overall gain (to solve the
famous SB volume control issue).
If the tripath chip is as good as they say this may indeed be an
interesting project.

cars, not a the same time ;-) a beat up Chevy Nova with old absorbers
and a new Audi A8 (or Chevy Impala i you will) on a road full of holes.
Chances are that the A8/Impala will command the road while the Nova will
bounce around hopelessly.

If I got it rigth you will not lose bits till the Transporter vol is
set very low (background music); in which case doesn't really matter.

Audio Research (or forget the dynamic).
Digital active crossovers (speaker management system!) provide a
refinement over the analog ones in their capacity to perform better
equalization/gain control with lower S/N. But the low tech detail of
volume control still remains elusive.

Ideally all of my gear would support balanced interconnects to avoid
ground issues. But for such feature the price of each component jumps
from, let's say, the one of a SB3 to the one of the Transporter.

a time that SONY got it right.
