Just to update on my situation. I deleted prefs and cache, switched to safe mode and it scanned. Now with all my plugs in back it still scans. Fixed (although a bit worrying if people need to delete prefs to get this to work, I'm still tyring to get my setup back to where it was) CW --

Can someone reopen bug 17639 against LMS7.7 . The issues is not limited to third party plugins iTunes and MusicIP seems be involved to if one uses them. Or any plugin that registers an importer. The issue is probably related to if there is any plugin that calls: Slim::Music::Import-addImporter

To avoid possible segfaults when using the linux rpm version of LMS7.7 Don't run it as a dlna/upnp media server use it for music and squeezeboxes only. In basic settings: remove any paths to a video or picture folder, select only music for the music folder(s) In plugin settings unpick

I installed RC6 again and re-scanned. LMS crashed a few minutes in and I had to restart (by reinstalling) during the scan process. The scanner was still running and it got a little further before hanging. Here is the server log before I abort the scan and roll back to RC5:
