Diesel provides 2 benefits:
1.) Conservation. You can get 50mpg diesels that provide all the
power a consumer could want.
2.) Conversion. You can make diesel from many different type of oil
including bio-sources like seaweed, but also
Diesel is till a fuel made from oil no?

Consumption is what it is. We need energy and eventually supply and
demand will stabilize; the only question

Well THAT's going a little far ...
But I do like diesel. Why? Because it depends on what problem you're
trying to solve.
If you're trying to solve the problem of US dependence on foreign
petroleum, then diesel is the fastest
I know that Gruss has a love affair going with diesel, but, this car isn't even
available yet in europe, let alone the US. And it will still suffer from the
US issues with diesel being a lot more expensive than regular gasoline thereby
limiting its adoption here. I think it will be great for e

yeah, but will we ever see it here? Europe has all the cool diesel cars
including the BMW 520D which gets about the same mileage as the Prius.we
get a model or two.

It's no accident that long-haul vehicles (18-wheelers, locomotives) run on
diesel.

60~65 depending on the speed limit. Most of my "gains" come from
traffic though. Just straight out highway (no traffic) driving will
net me in the upper 40's to low 50's. Once I hit a little bit of
traffic, my mileage starts to skyrocket because of the electric system
kicking in.
If you
what speed are you driving on the highway?
i am tempted.
i do a 100 rt a day as well.
but am trying to figure out how to get a diesel smart car from canada...

You can't argue with the savings, but I do wonder about the shown
values. I've run the same calculations with my friend's Prius and the
differential is greater
So I'm already on my third tank in roughly 20 days. 100 mile round
trips to work will do that to you.
If you're curious, here's the scoop:
tank 1: 53.3 Shown - 50.33 calculated
tank 2: 53.4 shown - 49.04 calculated
tank 3: 57.7 shown - 54.25 calculated
Definitely a gas savings from my 22mpg t
