drag your old mail over. You can also POP an external account from within
gmail's web interface. That may or may help.

Yup. New feature they added. I think it came out of Google Labs phase
a while back and is now a full feature :-)

I don't think that labels were designed to be nested. They are not
really "folders", they are more like
yeah, you are right charlie, that stuck out to me as wrong.
the ALL MAIL folder is just the view of all mail, not dropped into
labels or archived or whatever, its how i just check to seee if
a message im waiting for has shown up withuot navigating
to the label.

Nested labels work, but they are awful ugly in web mode.
If you have IMAP hooked up - create your nested folders in outlook, and on
your next sync with GMAIL, google will create the nested labels.
I've never tried to create them in gmail itself ... although the format
would be:
Main Folder-Labe

Hence if the only reason he wants outlook is for offline access, then his
issue is solved. dump outlook and use gmail in offline mode. :)

Late to this party, but ditto on the previous responses. I have outlook
connected to gmail via IMAP. The only reason I even have Outlook on the
system anymore is for contacts (I just don't care for Google's Contact
Manager).
My wife and I use Google calendar. My outlook syncs with my calendar (
gmail has offline access now . ?
