Hmmm, not sure if I agree with that based on my experiences with the 606

(according to prometric anyway, I still dont have any official results and
it isnt showing on the tracking system), so I took the 640-506 exam this

The assumption is that you had a PC hooked up to the cablemodem prior to
the current expectation to use the router as the Ethernet host behind
the cablemodem.

Is there a way to simplify configurations where interfaces all share the
same attributes? I have a router that has 41 interfaces, but for instance, I
want ALL of them to have no cdp enable on them.
Thanks!

Hi All,
I couldn't find any printed books or other materials for EVODD 9E0-411
exam preparation. I couldn't find Boson test for this exam either. Has
anyone taken this exam?
Any tips/hints/pointer as what/where to get the study materials is much
appreciated :)

That was EXACTLY what I was looking for.
I have included the group study mail list, for everyone else's benefit. I
looked on my 3662 running IOS 12.2(6) and sure enough it's there.
I'll have to try it out now.

Tim,
If you have not hard configured the MAC address then it will be the MAC of
the virtual router. This MAC address is a combination of 3 things; vendor
code, well known HSRP virtual MAC address, and the group number of the
active router.
Below are listed some sources of information.
I just did a test on my 3662 running 12.2.6 IP-Only IOS, and it worked like
a charm. My only complaint is it doesn't stay in the running configuration,
but would be perfect for the startup configuration.
Cisco added this feature in 12.1 apparently?
Do a search on Cisco's web site for the interface range command. It
doesn't work in all cases, and is only introduced the new code levels (12.1
E and 12.1 T)
Here is a link to one explanation of it -

Pprobally the easiest way to do what you are trying to do (that i can think
of) is copy the config to a text editor, do what you want to on each
interface via cut and paste, save the config, then copy it to the startup

When dealing with this type of circuit, think of your cable modem as the
UNI interface.
The router can/will negotiate DHCP signals dynamically (i.e. Lease,
Renewal, Rebind), but this is in terms of a host.

There might be a Howard-inspired lesson in this. ;-)
In the Control Plane, the host ARPs for its default gateway, which in this
case is configured to be the HSRP virtual IP address of the routers.
In the Management Plane, the routers talk amongst themselves to make sure
