i sync softsqueese to my main squeezebox 3 player so that when I play
FLACs on my SB3 then my PC plays the same music at the same time. There
are two problems
1) small silent playback gaps appear between tracks. These do not occur
if I shut down Softsqueeze.
2) if i use the fast forward (either
I think the Linux squeezeslave tar file is corrupt, I have tried
uncompressing it on both Linux and OSX, from two different mirrors and
always get an unexpected end of file.

Very often (but not always) pressing one of the buttons on the
SoftSqueeze remote results in a double button press -- I'll press the

there any resources/threads that compare and contrast all of these? Is
SqueezeSlave kind of a new spinoff of SoftSqueeze? SqueezePlay pretty

I have located a couple internet radio solutions.
One is called Mundu Radio which seems to be a web site that receives
radio streams and maybe reformats them to mp3 then restreams them. The
Palm OS client reports that it only supports .mp3 streaming. There is a
list of about 50 radio stations
why not just use the web browser to get into the slimserver interface?

There most certainly is. My slimserver is set to stream FLACs to my SB2
and to softsqueeze on my local Macs & PCs, while it streams high bitrate
mp3s to my Nokia770 and lower bitrate mp
Once you are connected to the URL provided by Nikhil you won't hear
anything. You need to browse to the slimserver web interface. Your PDA
will be listed as an additional player with its IP address.
Select the player from the menu, go to player settings and set the
bitrate limit accordingly, then
I think you need flac --> mp3 checked in server settings, file types.
And you need flac and lame installed on your system. Not sure if they
come preinstalled with slimserver on some (all?) OS.

Yes, the Bitrate Limiting setting is independent for each IP address.
But as Slimpy says, you need to have flac - MP3 checked as well as LAME
installed.

Open the slimserver webpage on a different PC, and look for the
Softsqueeze link (it's in the Help section on the default skin).

to my server at home using ssh tunnelling.
My tunnelling works fine outside of softsqueeze, I can do an
"ssh -L 9000:localhost:9000 server" and then use realplayer to play the

Oh OK, just have the server support Range requests, that's trivial. I
assume this is only an issue if you try to seek in a file? This
solution won't handle non-mp3/aac/alac files though, as there is no
transcoding built in to the download feature.

Well I got it working. Looks like Mobile Safari tries lots of different
ranges to see what works best, maybe some sort of bandwidth detection.
On my wifi network it ends up doing a ton of requests for only 63 bytes
at a time. Quite inefficient and puts quite a load on the server but at
least it
Oops I think that was just a bug in the response header causing it to
send all those extra requests. It actually buffers the whole file very
fast. :)
