We run the G4ULF system on a Via C7 mini ITX board, 1GB ram, and a 8GB CF
card as the HD.
The CPU never gets much usage, and it has no moving parts. Only 1 Ethernet
port is required.
It runs on CentOS.
The system cost less than $150 to build, including case.

Just a silly question. How did the "A" designation get taken over for DVAP
use?
I know it really doesn't matter, but "A" has been used since just about the
beginning as a designator for 1.2Ghz systems, and the DVAP does work on the
"C" band.

, you will need a OPC-1529R (about $25) and a serial to usb
adapter. On your cloning cable that is a 1/4" jack. The data is a 3/32" jack
(from what I have read thus far) which is the same cable I used on my old 2200h
and use now on my 880h.
As far as the gps, haven't used it yet.

I just had some experience with interference between a D-STAR repeater and
an analog repeater, 10 kHz apart, that I think may be educational. Here's
the story.
This morning I was a SAG Wagon on a B
ation can't send data while SOMEONE ELSE is talking on that
channel. This may not be well understood. To voice uses, DV Data appears as
a "dead carrier, but your signal uses up the voice channel even if you're
not talking. Users who have their beep turned on may get a lot of annoyi
thod of forwarding a transmission to a
repeater (the "/" does that). It works, but it's not necessary.
So it's no big deal.
I did find DR MODE confusing at first. The manual is accurate but obtuse
here, so you have to get beyond it a little to understand how DR MODE works

Heresy? I think that's a reference to the way AM ops dismissed the "Donald
Duck" talk, which is being echoed today by hams suspicious of digital voice.

frequencies of lots of analog repeaters I pass on my annual trip between
Raleigh and Dayton. It took hours using good software (but it was worth
it). A similar trip today passes less than a dozen D-STAR repeaters, so
it's quick.
