Did you do a 'make distclean' or a 'make mrproper'
Hello everyone,
Perhaps this is a "no-no"... If so, forgive me. I originally posted this problem in the

I have decided to turn to you experts for help. Here is the problem. It seems rather vague, I know, but I am

Hi list,
last week there was some discussion on the list here about tar and tape
drives and how things work. I was wondering though how can I tell the
device to eject the tape after it's done backing up and cataloging the
contents. I've written a small script that handles all that, but I don't

I always found them to be a pain to use.
Getting them to work right is the first hurdle. Seemed like I was constantly
messing with it.
Even once it was running, it was slow. Real slow, a
Isn't it just 'eject /dev/st0'?

I imagine 'mt -f /dev/st0 eject' will work. I just push the button on
the tape drive. Scripts have a problem doing that, though. :)

Aye, its that simple. You may need to fiddle with the permissions the script
runs at though.

The only trouble I have ever had with tape drives is non-standard lengths of

Hello
I enclose a copy of my previous question to the
group. I upgraded to kernel 2.4.18-8.2 from 2.4.8-34.1. I am running mdk 8.1 and
upgrade everything as updates come out. With the new kernel swap just does not
get used. I cannot run the gui because memory requirements will use up my

Thanks, Todd.
That's it. Run mkinitrd and change lilo.conf. That's it.
The good news is that my disk speed went from 6MB / sec to 27MB / sec
with the new kernel! Haven't tested the auto power off.
Now I have to tackle the problems! My nvidia driver was the first thing
to stop working. Tim

Well I have the cooker version of the kernel running on my new system
(version is 2.4.18-21). I am happy with the 4-fold speed increase in
disk speed.
But(there's always a but!), my sound progress moved backward! When
trying to modprobe via82cxxx_audio, I get the following:

If I'm not mistaken, the 1.0-5 is a cooker RPM made with gcc 3.1 and not compatible
with a standard 8.2 install. I don't know if that is the cause of your problem,
though. I do know that 1.0-2 RPM works fine. As for missing soffice files, while the

Turned out flashing the bios with the latest one off the epox web site

Have you looked at the docs:
file:///usr/share/doc/HOWTO/HTML/en/Xinerama-HOWTO.html
Maybe you need to edit your /etc/X11/xdm/Xservers file as explained in
the HOWTO in order to start the xinerama extensions.
