I went and picked up the cooker kernel (source rpm) and build it to try and address some major hardware problems I have. I built the kernel, and installed it (make menuconfig, make dep, make bzImage, make modules, make modules_install). I updated lilo.conf and added a new entry as I kept the new

I have been using an old Tandberg QIC drive with some success for QIC carts. I have a Travan or two in the junk box but I an loath to dig them out unless I have to. The only trouble I have ever had with tape drives is non-standard lengths of carts. Linux has picked them up every time. The car

Thanks, Todd. That's it. Run mkinitrd and change lilo.conf. That's it. The good news is that my disk speed went from 6MB / sec to 27MB / sec with the new kernel! Haven't tested the auto power off. Now I have to tackle the problems! My nvidia driver was the first thing to stop working. Tim

If I'm not mistaken, the 1.0-5 is a cooker RPM made with gcc 3.1 and not compatible with a standard 8.2 install. I don't know if that is the cause of your problem, though. I do know that 1.0-2 RPM works fine. As for missing soffice files, while the install that you download from OpenOffice.o
