the doubling itself is done using Finale's transpose function (PRESERVE
ORIGINAL NOTES).
If you want to make the upper notes smaller, you can do that using
TGTools->Modify->Special Modifications. The options would be:
SEARCH CRITERIA
- Nth note in chord (from top): 1
ACTIONS
- Resize hea

note, and it doesn't have ill effects on Note Spacing.
If you follow the manual and use a hard space and drag it to the left in
order to indirectly position your first hyphen, Music Spacing will screw

If it doesn't you can do that with TGTools->Modify->Transfer.

Yes indeed, and in the TGTools INDEX you will find it listed
under slurs (the "replace" item):

using TGTools->Modify->Expressions, you can multiply the positions with
0.5.
