You did not say what OS you are running, but make sure that you have
the Power Options set to High Performance in the Windows Control
panel.. Also AMD has some power saving utilities that may be kicking
in on you, this will slow the CPU down, might double check the system

I'm using a month-old Flex 5000A with a clean new computer that employs
AMD quad core 3.21 gHz processor and 2.75 gb of RAM.
CPU usage starts off around 10% after the computer and Flex are booted
but gradually rises to about 30% after about 4 minutes and remains around
that level. Nothing else
Hi Ray
In my case the culprit was clearly Norton NIS anti-virus.
Web browsing was just the trigger. It didn't matter if it was IE, Chrome or
Firefox. Surfing the web caused the antivirus software to activate and it
was holding up the DPC queue.
I have the latest nVidia GeForce 9800 GT driver
Have you tried Firefox instead of IE or Chrome??
Also, is it your network software/drivers causing the dpc .. when going
on the internet.. not the actual browser software..???

Thanks for the suggestion. I removed the security software (Microsoft

Now resolved, ... thanks to all who offered advice especially Dave W0DHB.
An update to V 1.18.3 and different COM software did the trick.
Many thanks again.

Hi Leon
I just went through the same thing with a HP Pavilion Elite m9450f running
Win7 (Asus IPIBL-LB motherboard aka HP Benicia-GL8E). In my case, the
solution was to completely remove Norton Internet Security 2010 (NIS). This
dropped the DPC latency from 8000usec max to 500usec when using IE/

Your post intrigued me enough to get me to download and
Here's the latest update on my continuing effort to reduce DPC latency
in my computer to an acceptable level. I have updated all the drivers I
can find: video, audio and LAN. I also updated the BIOS to the latest
available version. I've also tried running the computer without virus

Hi again.
I think I have solved the not starting up PowerSDR here.
After I ran the .net utility, I still couldn't run PowerSDR.
I then uninstalled .net installs, and reinstalled them.
After the PowerSDR started up again.
Thanks for the help

You didn't mention which OS (XP, Vista, Win 7) , but I recommend using
VSP manager instead of N8VB.

Make sure you delete all of the virtual comm ports in the device manager
after removing N8VB.

That would work too, but that uses up disk space replicating the application
programs when just a different database is required. There are several
different ways to skin this cat.
