For me, Backup is very nearly useless. It offers limited options,
doesn't have much flexibility in terms of scheduling, and can't make
complete backups of your drive like CCC can. The only advantage is that
it's free with any .mac subscription.

That same thing happened to my PB when I was away for 6 months and my
wife forgot to plug
).
I know that a few times I have run out of battery power completely and
probably the PRAM/backup battery has run out as well. The main battery
refuses to recharge until it is reset by Battery Reset. Maybe a sign of a
faulty power manager board (also quite common, it seems).
Worth a shot...

Replacing the backup battery
that you would find that battery at Radio Shack. These are
pretty much custom made.
That being said, the backup battery is fairly easy to replace. You basically
pop up the keyboard and it's on the right side, easy to remove.
